:00:16. > :00:20...won't be able to maintain the standard of its services.

:00:30. > :00:34...into the closure of a heritage centre near Bala.

:00:34. > :00:37.It received more than 2 million of public funding.

:00:37. > :00:42.Confirmation that at least 37 foreigners were killed in Algeria.

:00:42. > :00:45.Two of the hostages who managed to escape were from Wales.

:00:45. > :00:50.And the Welsh regions say they need more funding...

:00:50. > :00:53...to be able to compete in the Heineken Cup.

:00:53. > :01:09.That's the warning after another disappointing season in Europe.

:01:09. > :01:14.The National Museum of Wales is being forced to make...

:01:14. > :01:19...major changes as it tries to save money, including job losses.

:01:19. > :01:24.It doesn't want to impact on theday-to-day running of the museums...

:01:24. > :01:28...and there are seven of those...

:01:28. > :01:32...from St Fagan's and the National Museum in Cardiff...

:01:32. > :01:35...to the Slate Museum in Llanberis.

:01:35. > :01:37.35 jobs will disappear...

:01:37. > :01:41...but the changes will affect 160 members of staff...

:01:41. > :01:45...which is a quarter of the entire workforce.

:01:45. > :01:49.Ellis Roberts is outside the National Museum in Cardiff.

:01:49. > :01:53.The announcement was made at 2pm this afternoon...

:01:53. > :01:57...and staff meetings have been taking place throughout the day.

:01:57. > :02:02.They hope to avoid compulsory redundancies...

:02:02. > :02:10...but the museum has acknowledged that it must save money.

:02:10. > :02:11.Coal,

:02:11. > :02:12.Coal, slate,

:02:12. > :02:17.Coal, slate, wool

:02:17. > :02:21.Coal, slate, wool and Welsh life - the National Museum of Wales has

:02:21. > :02:27.sites dedicated to all these things. There's even one on the Romans.

:02:27. > :02:31.More than 1.5 million people vilz Ted last year and not one of them

:02:31. > :02:35.had to pay. But money is the problem. The museum will have to

:02:35. > :02:40.save 2 million over the next three years, which means job losses.

:02:40. > :02:46.There will be a three-month consultation period. The biggest

:02:46. > :02:54.changes will be seen in education and research. Many people don't

:02:54. > :02:58.realise how much work goes on behind the scenes. We have got to

:02:58. > :03:09.be very care thafl we don't lose our heritage and take it for

:03:09. > :03:16.granted. They are not just there for tourism reasons. Voluntary

:03:16. > :03:23.redundancies are possible, as is early retirement or a change in

:03:23. > :03:27.terms and conditions. I think we have been lucky in Wales during the

:03:27. > :03:33.financial crisis because it hasn't really directly affected us until

:03:33. > :03:42.this point. But now we are starting to see these cuts in the public

:03:42. > :03:47.sector and it is going to be very serious. The museum says

:03:47. > :03:56.maintaining its high standards is the priority, as is redeveloping St

:03:56. > :04:02.Fagan's. But the plans have angered some historians. What have the

:04:02. > :04:10.unions said tonight? Prospect say they are very disappointed with

:04:10. > :04:15.this news. The civil servants union, which represents almost 300 members

:04:15. > :04:22.of staff, says it is worried because the management have said

:04:22. > :04:26.they want to avoid compulsory redundancies. The unions say it

:04:26. > :04:38.will be very difficult for these cuts to be made without affecting

:04:38. > :04:46.services. They have previously objected to UK Government cuts in

:04:46. > :04:49.public funding. What is the time table? There will be a three-month

:04:49. > :04:56.consultation period. The National Museum of Wales has emphasised that

:04:56. > :05:02.there will be no final decisions made until that period is over.

:05:02. > :05:24.They may offer voluntary As weather forecaster predict more

:05:25. > :05:29...a bus taking children to school This bus slid on the snow and

:05:29. > :05:34.veered off the road. Fortunately, none of the children were seriously

:05:34. > :05:40.injured. But many of them were shaken after the incidents. From

:05:40. > :05:45.east to west, the ground is still covered in snow. Here in

:05:45. > :05:50.Pembrokeshire, the B4329 has re- opened. But with 120 schools closed

:05:50. > :05:55.today, there's no doubt that the snow is still having an effect.

:05:55. > :05:58.There were no customers at the Penderyn Whisky Visitors' Centre

:05:58. > :06:06.this lunch time and the business has suffered as a result of the

:06:06. > :06:14.weather. I usually take people around the centre. The diary was

:06:15. > :06:20.full, but unfortunately, no-one turned up. Nansi Selwood lives a

:06:20. > :06:25.stone's throw from the distillery. Only tractors or 4x4 vehicles can

:06:25. > :06:32.get here, but the grandmother, who has a visual impairment, says

:06:32. > :06:44.preparation is the key. When you live in a rural area, you always

:06:44. > :06:50.prepare for bad weather. I have never been caught out. They are

:06:50. > :06:59.expecting more snow tonight. Will you be all right? They are

:06:59. > :07:04.expecting snow tomorrow afternoon. Up the road in the Brecon Beacons,

:07:04. > :07:11.farmer Ieuan Morgan is keeping an eye on his animals and he's worried

:07:11. > :07:17.that more snow could significantly increase his costs. It is going to

:07:17. > :07:24.be a very expensive winter. The price of lambs has fallen and our

:07:24. > :07:28.costs are going to be far higher. From farm animals to domestic

:07:28. > :07:37.animals, they all need extra care in this weather, according to this

:07:37. > :07:43.vet in Merthyr. When you have taken the animals out for a walk, if

:07:43. > :07:50.there is grit on the road, it can be very uncomfortable for dogs in

:07:50. > :07:53.particular. It can cause irritations. Councils are already

:07:53. > :08:00.preparing for the possibility of more snow and some schools have

:08:00. > :08:07.already said they'll be closed There are calls for the Wales

:08:07. > :08:10.The Cywain Centre closed its doors over a year ago.

:08:11. > :08:13.The organisation which ran the venture - Antur Penllyn...

:08:13. > :08:21...is meeting tonight to discuss its future.

:08:21. > :08:21.The

:08:21. > :08:23.The Cywain

:08:23. > :08:27.The Cywain Centre

:08:27. > :08:33.The Cywain Centre opened in May 2008. The aim of the venture was to

:08:33. > :08:38.celebrate rural life but the centre closed its doors three years later.

:08:38. > :08:42.Antur Penllyn ran the centre, but they failed to find a suetdable

:08:42. > :08:46.organisation to take over. The lease and the assets have been

:08:46. > :08:53.transferred to the Rhiwlas Estate. There was a mixed reaction to the

:08:53. > :09:01.news in Bala. It is a loss to the town because I used to take the

:09:01. > :09:10.children there during the summer holidays. It is outside the town,

:09:10. > :09:17.so it is difficult to get to. don't think it will be a great loss.

:09:17. > :09:25.I thought it was a good idea to begin with. But they didn't hold

:09:25. > :09:33.enough events there. This kind of thing doesn't give the

:09:33. > :09:38.town a good image. It takes some vibrancy away from the place.

:09:38. > :09:41.venture received more than 2 million in public funding. The

:09:41. > :09:50.chair of the Assembly's Public Accounts Committee has called for

:09:50. > :09:54.an inquiry. I have asked the Audit Office to look into this. The Arts

:09:54. > :09:58.Council contributed 200,000 towards the art work and the

:09:58. > :10:06.council say they have an agreement with the land owners, which means

:10:06. > :10:18.the public will still be able to view the art on display. It seems

:10:18. > :10:25.there is uncertainty over the The Algerian Prime Minister says

:10:25. > :10:29.At least three of the people who died were from Britain.

:10:29. > :10:33.It's feared another three are also dead.

:10:33. > :10:40.Two of the hostages who survived the attack were Welsh.

:10:40. > :10:40.It

:10:40. > :10:40.It is

:10:40. > :10:45.It is now

:10:45. > :10:50.It is now feared six Britons were killed at this gas facility in

:10:50. > :11:03.Algeria. The raid lasted four days and it has since been confirmed

:11:03. > :11:09.that at least 37 foreigners were killed. A 59-year-old man from Fife

:11:09. > :11:15.in Scotland was among those who died. The police came last night

:11:15. > :11:21.and they confirmed he had been executed. The Prime Minister of

:11:21. > :11:25.Algeria said seven people are still missing. 29 Islamic militants were

:11:25. > :11:30.killed. Among the hostages who managed to survive was a man from

:11:30. > :11:38.North Wales. He escaped on board one of the buses, which were

:11:38. > :11:43.targeted by the rebels. They witnessed some terrible scenes.

:11:43. > :11:50.Today it was confirmed that another man from Wales is alive and well.

:11:50. > :11:56.According to an expert in the field, they are very fortunate. I have

:11:56. > :12:01.been in Kuwait and Siberia and these gas facilities can be

:12:01. > :12:06.enormous. It is very difficult to keep everyone safe. One of the

:12:06. > :12:16.important questions is how you travel to the site. And then site

:12:16. > :12:20.security. It can be a very dangerous job. In Parliament David

:12:20. > :12:31.Cameron sent his sympathies to the families of those who have died and

:12:31. > :12:34.Barack Obama has taken the oath ..in front of more than 500,000

:12:34. > :12:38.In his speech, he said the country has a new opportunity...

:12:38. > :12:41...following a decade of war and a long recession.

:12:41. > :12:45.But he warned that they must close the gap...

:12:45. > :12:48...between the wealthy and the poor.

:12:48. > :12:52.The leader of Anglesey Council says there is interest...

:12:52. > :12:55...in the Welsh Country Foods slaughter house in Gaerwen.

:12:55. > :12:58.The futures of the slaughter house and 350 jobs are at stake...

:12:58. > :13:01...after losing a major order from Asda.

:13:02. > :13:06.The company hopes to convince Asda to keep buying lamb...

:13:06. > :13:18...while trying to find a new buyer.

:13:18. > :13:19.Representatives

:13:19. > :13:19.Representatives of

:13:19. > :13:22.Representatives of both

:13:22. > :13:27.Representatives of both sides met to discuss the future today.

:13:27. > :13:33.Although the site is already for sale, there is a glimmer of hope

:13:33. > :13:38.for the 350 workers. They are hoping to convince Asda to keep

:13:38. > :13:52.buying lamb from the site. And it's understood there is interest in the

:13:52. > :13:59.site. There is some interest, but that takes time. Asda's decision

:13:59. > :14:10.has been a significant blow to the company. But are they confident

:14:10. > :14:16.Asda will reconsider? We will have to wait and see. We are still in

:14:16. > :14:20.talks. More than 600,000 lambs are processed at the slaurt house every

:14:20. > :14:28.year, making it an important market for local farmers. Closing the site

:14:28. > :14:34.would be a big blow to Anglesey. Asda have put us in a very

:14:34. > :14:42.difficult position. They decided to end the contract. There have been

:14:42. > :14:47.talks of protests, but the talks are ongoing. Asda say cancelling

:14:47. > :14:53.their order with Welsh Country Foods was a difficult decision, but

:14:53. > :14:57.that changes in demand had forced their hand.

:14:57. > :15:08.Asda are expected to make a decision within the next two weeks

:15:08. > :15:16.whether they will reconsider their Campaigners in Blaenau Ffestiniog

:15:16. > :15:20.The Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board has decided it will close hospitals...

:15:21. > :15:24...in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Flint, Llangollen and Prestatyn.

:15:24. > :15:27.The Ffestiniog Memorial Hospital Defence Committee...

:15:28. > :15:31...will discuss what action to take at a meeting next Monday.

:15:31. > :15:33.The Royal College of Midwives has warned that cutting...

:15:33. > :15:37...the number of midwives in Wales any further...

:15:37. > :15:40...will put the standard of the service at risk.

:15:40. > :15:44.The number of births has increased by 16% over the last ten years...

:15:44. > :15:48...while the number of midwives has increased by 3%.

:15:48. > :15:54.And in 2010, 63% more women over the age of 40 gave birth than in 2001.

:15:54. > :15:58.Janine Wyn Davies helps train midwives...

:15:58. > :16:09...at the University of Glamorgan and joins us live from Swansea.

:16:09. > :16:10.decision. What

:16:10. > :16:10.decision. What are

:16:10. > :16:16.decision. What are your

:16:16. > :16:20.decision. What are your concerns? You have just given the figures and

:16:20. > :16:31.the mathematics is not too difficult to work out. The

:16:31. > :16:37.situation in Wales is not as serious as in England. Our leaders

:16:37. > :16:43.have been working very effectively to make sure that we are not in a

:16:43. > :16:50.situation which is too bad. Unless we take action now, the situation

:16:50. > :16:59.is going to get worse. What needs to be done? This report says

:16:59. > :17:09.politicians need to intervene urgently. Do you agree? Completely.

:17:09. > :17:19.We need to train more midwives. Last year, I had 800 applicants for

:17:19. > :17:31.16 places on a course. Those were the only spaces we had received

:17:31. > :17:36.funding for. That is not enough. What are you going to do next?

:17:36. > :17:42.have got to take action. It is all well and good asking for more

:17:42. > :17:59.midwives, but we need more training facilities in Wales. Their skills

:17:59. > :18:08.Small businesses will be able ..under new plans

:18:08. > :18:28...for small and medium-sized ..in order to grow

:18:28. > :18:35.Helping the economy grow during the recession is very difficult. Many

:18:35. > :18:40.small businesses are finding it difficult to borrow money. It was a

:18:40. > :18:47.very difficult process. We managed to get the money we needed in the

:18:47. > :18:53.end, but it took six months in all. At the start of the process, I

:18:53. > :19:01.thought it would take one or two months. The Welsh Conservatives

:19:01. > :19:04.want to reform investment Wales and the message was clear today.

:19:05. > :19:11.want to make sure that small businesses in particular are able

:19:11. > :19:19.to access funding. The businesses I talk to and the businesses my

:19:19. > :19:23.members talk to are finding it very difficult to borrow money. Under

:19:23. > :19:28.the Investment Wales scheme, small businesses will be able to borrow

:19:28. > :19:38.between 1,000 and 1 million. Other banks would offer 50% of the

:19:38. > :19:44.money and the rest would come from the public purse. The Government

:19:44. > :19:52.wants to make sure there is money out there to help small businesses

:19:52. > :19:59.grow, which in turn will boost the economy. The politicians say this

:19:59. > :20:13.is very important. The Welsh Government launched a review last

:20:13. > :20:27.month and today, Plaid Cymru called for a bank to operate on a

:20:27. > :20:47.Prince Harry is on his way back from Afghanistan. He has been on

:20:47. > :20:54.Now tonight's sport. ..to achieve success

:20:54. > :20:58...Jonathan Humphreys, after his team was knocked out of Europe.

:20:58. > :21:02.His comments come as the national team gathers for the first time...

:21:02. > :21:08...ahead of the Six Nations.

:21:08. > :21:09.The

:21:09. > :21:09.The Welsh

:21:09. > :21:13.The Welsh regions

:21:13. > :21:17.The Welsh regions have less money than all the other teams in Europe,

:21:17. > :21:23.which makes it unrealistic to expect success in competitions like

:21:23. > :21:28.the Heineken Cup. That's according to Jonathan Humphreys, after his

:21:28. > :21:32.team finished their European campaign with a loss in Italy.

:21:32. > :21:38.Although the Blues secured their first victory in the Heineken Cup

:21:38. > :21:43.on Saturday, the Scarlets lost every one of their games.

:21:43. > :21:49.competition has been a big disappointment for Welsh rugby fans.

:21:49. > :21:55.In the past, the national team has been able to perform, despite poor

:21:55. > :22:02.performances in Europe. individuals, it is going to knock

:22:02. > :22:08.your confidence, but the red shirt counts for a lot. Being part of the

:22:08. > :22:13.Welsh set up will give them a boost. The Welsh team started its journey

:22:13. > :22:20.to a Grand Slam in 2012 with a win over Ireland. The two sides will

:22:20. > :22:23.meet again in two weeks' time in the opening game of the Six Nations.

:22:23. > :22:31.The Welsh players will have to forget their regional form,

:22:31. > :22:36.according to a man who has fond memories of that game a year ago.

:22:36. > :22:42.The Irish teams are doing very well, but we have beaten Ireland in the

:22:42. > :22:46.World Cup and in last year's Six Nations. It has the ingredients to

:22:46. > :22:50.be a fantastic match. There's no doubt that the national team will

:22:50. > :23:00.get the attention over the next few months, but the debate over the

:23:00. > :23:04.Football, and the Welsh clubs are Cardiff announced today that they

:23:04. > :23:07...Fraizer Campbell on a three and a half year contract.

:23:07. > :23:09.That will strengthen a squad...

:23:09. > :23:14...which has a ten point lead at the top of the Championship.

:23:14. > :23:18.Former Wales striker Iwan Roberts joins us live from Norwich...

:23:18. > :23:26...and he's confident they will get promoted.

:23:26. > :23:26.I

:23:26. > :23:27.I was

:23:27. > :23:31.I was confident

:23:31. > :23:37.I was confident before the season started. Malky Mackay has attracted

:23:37. > :23:46.some very good players to the club. The statistics show that they are

:23:46. > :23:51.playing very well. They are ten points clear. They have won seven

:23:51. > :23:55.away games and only lawyer -- Leicester have a better goal

:23:55. > :24:01.difference. I think that says it all. Swansea are also having a

:24:01. > :24:05.successful January. They have a real hope of reaching the final of

:24:05. > :24:11.the League Cup where they play Chelsea on Wednesday. That is going

:24:11. > :24:19.to be a big night. They have one foot in the final, but the game is

:24:19. > :24:24.far from over. Swansea are on fire at the moment. They haven't lost in

:24:24. > :24:31.their last six Premiership games. The result against Stoke on

:24:31. > :24:35.Saturday will have done them the world of good. Wrexham's games

:24:35. > :24:38.against Southport tomorrow is in doubt because of the snow. What do

:24:38. > :24:46.you make of their season and Newport's seasons in the

:24:46. > :24:52.Conference? Both clubs are fighting for promotion. It would be great to

:24:52. > :24:58.see them both back in the Football League. Newport did not play well

:24:58. > :25:08.on Saturday and they lost at home. I will be covering the Newport game

:25:08. > :25:18.tomorrow night and I hope we get a After winning
