:00:16. > :00:19.The number of cases of the most serious type of skin cancer has

:00:19. > :00:25.risen 400% in Wales since the 1970s, according to the charity Cancer

:00:25. > :00:28.Research. The rise is bigger than in any other part of Britain. Despite

:00:28. > :00:38.this, the number of people recovering is higher than with any

:00:38. > :00:42.other type of cancer. Jennifer Jones has the details.

:00:42. > :00:47.Porthcawl on a bank holiday. Plenty of people enjoying themselves and of

:00:47. > :00:51.course sunbathing. But there is a warning today for the hundreds of

:00:51. > :00:53.thousands of sun worshippers. According to the Cancer Research

:00:53. > :01:02.charity, the number of cases of cancerous melanoma has increased

:01:02. > :01:05.400% during the past 40 years. And the figures are shocking. In the mid

:01:05. > :01:11.'70s, four in every 100,000 people in Wales developed the most

:01:11. > :01:15.dangerous type of melanoma every year. Nowadays, there are 18 cases

:01:15. > :01:22.in every 100,000 - which means that 730 people develop the disease in

:01:22. > :01:25.Wales every year. One of the reasons is thought to be in the increase in

:01:25. > :01:28.holidays to European countries since the end of the 1960s and the

:01:28. > :01:32.increased use of sunbeds. It's also possible that improved diagnosis has

:01:32. > :01:40.contributed to the increase. Meredydd Williams has recently

:01:40. > :01:54.undergone skin cancer treatment. Following radiotherapy on his face

:01:54. > :02:08.and back at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, he's now in recovery. I have worked in

:02:08. > :02:15.the sand throughout my life. I was always outside. I am putting some

:02:15. > :02:17.weight back on now. I lost a lot of weight. But to avoid the risk of

:02:17. > :02:23.melanoma, Cancer Research is emphasising the need to avoid

:02:23. > :02:26.getting sunburn. And the best way to do that, they say, is to wear a sun

:02:26. > :02:34.hat, use plenty of high factor sun cream. And if your shadow is shorter

:02:34. > :02:38.than you, you should find shelter. And there is good news. Although

:02:38. > :02:41.around 120 people die from skin cancer every year in Wales, the

:02:41. > :02:46.number of patients surviving is among the highest for any cancer -

:02:46. > :02:49.with 80% making a full recovery. their conference in Brighton,

:02:49. > :02:53.teaching union the NUT has voted in favour of strike action which will

:02:53. > :02:56.place at the end of June. The dispute over pay, pensions and

:02:56. > :03:03.working conditions is responsible for the move. Strike action could

:03:03. > :03:06.affect thousands of children across England and Wales. They are also

:03:06. > :03:09.considering strike action in the autumn. The president of South Korea

:03:10. > :03:13.has criticised the captain and crew of a ferry which sank off the coast

:03:13. > :03:16.of the country last week. He said that those responsible for the

:03:16. > :03:24.disaster would face court action. 64 bodies have been recovered, but 238

:03:24. > :03:28.people remain missing, many of them school children from Seoul.

:03:28. > :03:37.The family of a motorcyclist from Neath Port Talbot have been paying

:03:38. > :03:40.tribute to him. Gareth Davies, who was 70 years old, was driving along

:03:41. > :03:44.Cadoxton Terrace when his bike collided with another vehicle in the

:03:44. > :03:47.early hours of Friday morning. In the meantime, in North Wales today,

:03:47. > :03:51.a campaign was launched to urge motorcyclists to take care on the

:03:51. > :03:55.A494 between Corwen and Bala. The road is one of the most dangerous

:03:55. > :03:58.for motorcyclists in Wales. Dafydd Evans reports. It's one of the

:03:58. > :04:04.busiest weekends of the year for motorcycles on the roads of North

:04:04. > :04:07.Wales. The Ponderosa is a popular spot for a drink. And it's an

:04:07. > :04:20.obvious spot for the emergency services and road safety agencies to

:04:20. > :04:28.get their message across. It's easy to see the appeal of these roads on

:04:28. > :04:34.days like this. But there are many dangers. Figures suggest that this

:04:34. > :04:38.road, the A494 between Corwen and Bala is one of the most dangerous.

:04:38. > :04:49.Over the past decade, there have been 109 accidents. Almost 60% of

:04:49. > :04:55.those involved motorcycles. There were five deaths. There are some

:04:55. > :05:06.dangerous corners. Unfortunately, what we are seeing is that at three

:05:06. > :05:11.spots, on corners on this road, the motorcyclists are unfortunately

:05:11. > :05:16.getting into accidents. So were the motorcyclists willing to listen?

:05:17. > :05:23.see it quite often. Some of the younger motorcyclists. They are

:05:23. > :05:26.full, to be honest. The motorbikes are too powerful for them. Officials

:05:26. > :05:30.were concentrating on the A494 today, but the message is the same

:05:30. > :05:34.for those on the roads all over Wales, whether on two wheels or

:05:34. > :05:37.four. Tributes have been paid to peace campaigner Arfon Rhys, who has

:05:37. > :05:40.died aged 72. Originally from Llanelli, he was secretary of the

:05:40. > :05:45.Fellowship of Reconciliation in Wales and also campaigned for the

:05:45. > :05:48.Welsh language. A unit of Welsh doctors with the

:05:48. > :05:52.Territorial Army have been granted the freedom of the city of Cardiff

:05:52. > :06:06.in recognition of their service. The reservist unit are the ninth

:06:06. > :06:10.organisation to be given the award since 1886.

:06:10. > :06:13.A company from Gwynedd is also celebrating. Seven years after it

:06:13. > :06:16.was established, Babipur was nominated for the Observer Ethical

:06:16. > :06:18.Awards, or the Green Oscars, as they also known. The company sells

:06:18. > :06:22.eco-friendly child products, including 40,000 nappies a year.

:06:22. > :06:25.Jolene Barton started the business from her home and now employs five

:06:25. > :06:31.members of staff. The company sends products to customers right across

:06:31. > :06:36.the world from its warehouse in Penrhyndeudraeth. I had an interest

:06:36. > :06:42.in where things were being produced and how they were made. I was

:06:42. > :06:50.thinking a lot about those things. I wanted to start the business and I

:06:50. > :06:56.was sure that I wanted to make sure that it was not happening with the

:06:56. > :07:06.products we were selling. It does get difficult sometimes to ensure

:07:06. > :07:12.that everything is green. But it is worth doing. We sell around 40,000

:07:12. > :07:19.nappies a year. And we sell them to people right across the world. We

:07:19. > :07:27.have been nominated for the awards and we are very proud. I hope that

:07:27. > :07:32.people will vote for us. We will be going to London in June. Hopefully

:07:32. > :07:35.we will win the award. According to newspaper reports, David Moyes' time

:07:35. > :07:38.as Manchester United manager could be over after less than a season in

:07:38. > :07:42.charge. The club has not commented on the rumours suggesting Moyes

:07:42. > :07:50.could be sacked before the end of the season. There are also rumours

:07:50. > :07:54.that Ryan Giggs could take over for the four remaining matches.

:07:54. > :08:01.Newport are already safe in League Two. They drew with Burton Albion

:08:01. > :08:08.today. Wrexham lost against Lincoln at the Racecourse. In the Welsh

:08:08. > :08:11.Premier, there were victories for Bala, Carmarthen and The New Saints.

:08:11. > :08:14.Neath have beaten Aberavon 27-10 in the Welsh Premier, securing their

:08:14. > :08:20.place in the league for another season. The result means bottom of

:08:20. > :08:25.the table Swansea have a glimmer of hope in avoiding the drop. It's now

:08:25. > :08:28.between them and Aberavon. Snooker and Michael White hopes to

:08:28. > :08:31.emulate fellow Welshman Ryan Day in reaching the second round of the
