:00:12. > :00:21.Welcome back. Let's look through some of the main global stories. A

:00:22. > :00:27.court in Brazil has suspended the former president as chief of staff

:00:28. > :00:30.to the current president. Critics of the government are accusing him of

:00:31. > :00:36.dodging possible corruption charges by taking a governmental position.

:00:37. > :00:38.EU leaders are meeting in Brussels to agree the deal with Turkey to

:00:39. > :00:44.choose the number of migrants coming into Greece. We will talk about yet

:00:45. > :00:48.another political controversy in South Africa. This one concerns a

:00:49. > :00:54.wealthy family and the accusation that is so close to the president,

:00:55. > :00:59.it is offering government positions. The family and the president are

:01:00. > :01:06.having none of it. Sepp Blatter's details have been released and I

:01:07. > :01:21.will have the latest with my United against Liverpool.

:01:22. > :01:27.As I was mentioning, the European union leaders are meeting and

:01:28. > :01:32.thrashing out this plan with Turkey. The goal is to reduce the number of

:01:33. > :01:36.migrants coming into Greece. There are some people who would argue this

:01:37. > :01:44.mike in crisis as a whole, poses an existential threat to the European

:01:45. > :01:53.threat. -- union. Gavin Hughes is here with me now. I thought it was

:01:54. > :01:56.interesting what the Italian prime and is the second he was asked if

:01:57. > :02:01.there would be a deal and he said we cannot afford not to have a deal.

:02:02. > :02:05.Why is he saying that? Because individual countries are taking

:02:06. > :02:10.their own steps, they are blocking borders, putting up fences and the

:02:11. > :02:12.risk of all of this is that it undermines the passport free zone

:02:13. > :02:18.are guaranteed by the Schengen agreement. That is one of the

:02:19. > :02:21.pillars of the EU. If that fractures, not only will there be an

:02:22. > :02:28.economic cost with tailbacks to borders but also, it undermines part

:02:29. > :02:34.of the year. That is why many leaders today say it is

:02:35. > :02:39.inconceivable they will walk away after two days with no deal. We were

:02:40. > :02:42.talking about Brazil and the political process and the

:02:43. > :02:48.institutions there, the EU has institutions which are under big

:02:49. > :02:52.pressure as it is struggling to get individual member states to toe the

:02:53. > :03:00.line? Its authority is being undermined. A succession of very

:03:01. > :03:08.difficult matters have come the way of the European Union, not just the

:03:09. > :03:13.mike in crisis although it is not as -- acute as it was, there are still

:03:14. > :03:20.high unemployment so it raises in people's minds is the EU still

:03:21. > :03:25.working. Certainly for the president of the commission and four other

:03:26. > :03:28.European officials and leaders, this is really important to try to give

:03:29. > :03:33.the impression that they are on top of the migrant crisis. Up until this

:03:34. > :03:37.moment they have only been reacting and as you have said, they have been

:03:38. > :03:44.reacting as individual countries rather than a union. Greece popped

:03:45. > :03:49.up in the top ten risk to global stability, is there a chance we have

:03:50. > :03:55.taken our eye off a core issue for the union which is whether Greece

:03:56. > :04:02.can continue to function? The key question in relation to Greece is is

:04:03. > :04:08.living up to its agreements last year and those talks are going on at

:04:09. > :04:14.the moment. The real interesting question for me is what you do with

:04:15. > :04:20.Greece's debt to GDP ratio which is something around 190%. Greece's

:04:21. > :04:25.debts are not sustainable. Europe will have to get away with saying is

:04:26. > :04:28.it implementing cuts, is it becoming more efficient and are they taking

:04:29. > :04:31.the right fiscal measures and they will say we will have to do

:04:32. > :04:35.something about these debts in order to give his country a chance of

:04:36. > :04:39.recovery. You have followed the union for a long time and it is

:04:40. > :04:43.about policy and personality and about making the case for its

:04:44. > :04:54.existence, DC those personalities at the moment of people saying this

:04:55. > :04:56.creation deserves to continue? Journalling the crisis angler Merkel

:04:57. > :05:11.became the indispensable leader of the European Union -- ensuring the

:05:12. > :05:15.crisis Angela Merkel. Chairing the migrant crisis her authority has

:05:16. > :05:19.been challenged white a lot of the idea that have come out of their

:05:20. > :05:28.Lynn and Brussels have not been followed up by other countries and

:05:29. > :05:32.some countries disagree with Berlin. Angela Merkel is a less influential

:05:33. > :05:36.figure and I think at the moment, there is a sense of a vacuum of

:05:37. > :05:42.leadership, of convincing leadership in the European Union. That is Gavin

:05:43. > :05:46.Hewitt. In a couple of moments I will tell you how much Sepp Blatter

:05:47. > :05:52.and last year, figure journalists having to find out for a long time.

:05:53. > :05:56.Let's check-in tonight with Manchester United against the ball.

:05:57. > :06:07.Liverpool have an advantage but Man U are at home how are we getting on

:06:08. > :06:11.Jess? Goalless at the moment but a big game for Louis Van Gaal. I have

:06:12. > :06:14.been too odd traffic in the last few weeks and the fans have been pretty

:06:15. > :06:20.silent but they are really up for this one. -- Old Trafford. They

:06:21. > :06:25.realise the pressure that is on the manager and the club if they do not

:06:26. > :06:28.get a result, it is a 2-goal deficit and Jesse Lingard had an

:06:29. > :06:34.unchallenged header in the Liverpool box but that was well saved by the

:06:35. > :06:40.Liverpool keeper. Just moments ago Philippe Coutinho had a searing shot

:06:41. > :06:45.well saved by David de Gea. Still goalless at the moment but at the

:06:46. > :06:51.moment, Spurs are in action. Vision impossible tonight. They are trying

:06:52. > :06:56.to overcome a 3-goal deficit to Dortmund and may have already gone

:06:57. > :07:01.behind. They are a goal down, Dortmund have a ready scored. It was

:07:02. > :07:07.Mission impossible before the start of the match and now in the second

:07:08. > :07:10.leg it will be even harder for them. I think they will be concentrating

:07:11. > :07:17.on the leak from now on. You can follow all of those through the BBC

:07:18. > :07:28.sport website. We have two stories, Sepp Blatter's wages and more on

:07:29. > :07:36.during Vaca. You were sacked after allegations of misconduct relating

:07:37. > :07:38.to the sales of World Cup tickets -- Jerome Valke. Criminal proceedings

:07:39. > :07:41.are being held up against and for criminal mismanagement and his

:07:42. > :07:47.lawyer said his client has done absolutely nothing wrong. That is

:07:48. > :07:52.the first Fifa story. The second is that finally we know how much Sepp

:07:53. > :07:58.Blatter was earning. We are only a few weeks away from him leaving his

:07:59. > :08:06.post as president and we could never find it out before but here we go.

:08:07. > :08:10.In 2015 he picked up $3.76 million, the new president of Fifa felt it

:08:11. > :08:16.was appropriate to release that. Now a strange story. Those of you

:08:17. > :08:19.watching in the states, Adam LaRoche plays for the Chicago White Sox and

:08:20. > :08:25.has announced he will walk away from his contract because he was told not

:08:26. > :08:32.to bring his 14-year-old son into the clubhouse.

:08:33. > :08:40.It was a bad year for Adam and the Chicago White Sox. Kenny Williams

:08:41. > :08:47.the president just ask Adam if he would reduce the frequency with

:08:48. > :08:50.which Drake was around. He did not ban him from the premises, he just

:08:51. > :09:00.asked him if he would dial it back in his words. Adam LaRoche took that

:09:01. > :09:05.as he was not welcome there and add LaRoche right now is walking away

:09:06. > :09:11.from $13 million that he is under contract for in 2016. That story

:09:12. > :09:16.coming from Chicago and we go to South Africa soon to talk about

:09:17. > :09:21.their president Jacob Zuma who is having to fend off allegations that

:09:22. > :09:29.he is too close to one influential wealthy family. The allegations are

:09:30. > :09:33.the family have been offering the President money, the president

:09:34. > :09:37.denies it but it is causing controversy.

:09:38. > :09:43.As I am sure you have seen, Paul Daniels one of the most popular

:09:44. > :09:48.entertainers in the country has died at the age of 77, just weeks after

:09:49. > :09:49.he was diagnosed with a brain gym. He died at his home in the early

:09:50. > :09:57.hours He was a well-known figure on

:09:58. > :10:05.Saturday night television. Mickey Higham looks back on his life.

:10:06. > :10:13.If the boards in my left hand... He was fast funny and skilful. He took

:10:14. > :10:17.old-fashioned badging and refashioned it for prime time

:10:18. > :10:22.television. He became a fixture of the Saturday night schedules. He

:10:23. > :10:28.magic with a cheeky brand of comedy. magic with a cheeky brand of comedy.

:10:29. > :10:38.One, two out the way. You have to be quick. He devised a catchphrase to

:10:39. > :10:42.deal with agonist. Paul Daniels was almost famous for his toupee and his

:10:43. > :10:46.assistant Debbie McGee. They eventually married which used some

:10:47. > :10:53.people greatly. What attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels? I

:10:54. > :10:55.got the giggles because when I first worked with Paul who was not a

:10:56. > :11:01.millionaire. The things that attracted me to him were, he made me

:11:02. > :11:07.laugh immediately. Our life has been full of laughter and that is what it

:11:08. > :11:12.has been the last few weeks. Up until the last 48 hours when he

:11:13. > :11:17.slipped into a sleep. Minutes before he slipped into that, he was smiling

:11:18. > :11:25.at me and joking and singing songs. I had a letter yesterday which said

:11:26. > :11:32.the thing is, you had a marriage that everybody dreams of. I did.

:11:33. > :11:37.Off-screen he devised special effects for the fans of the Opera.

:11:38. > :11:41.He was an inspiration to a younger generation. For 20 years he was one

:11:42. > :11:48.of the most popular entertainers in Britain. Three years ago he admitted

:11:49. > :11:54.he could not be sure of all the women he slept with well over 16. He

:11:55. > :12:01.could be chippy and some thought him smug. He fell out with BBC managers

:12:02. > :12:05.who dropped a show in the 1990s. But there was no doubting his popularity

:12:06. > :12:16.or his talents. And that circus magic.

:12:17. > :12:24.This is outside source. Thanks for joining me. Our lead story, protest

:12:25. > :12:29.in Brazil at a court suspended the nomination of the former president

:12:30. > :12:34.to a cabinet position. Critics of this move say he was trying to take

:12:35. > :12:41.the post to dodge allegations of corruption is. Something the current

:12:42. > :12:44.president denies. After outside source, if you're watching outside

:12:45. > :12:50.the UK then we will examine a statement from the US secretary John

:12:51. > :12:56.Kerry accusing the Islamic State of genocide. Next further coverage from

:12:57. > :13:07.the fallout of yesterday's budget. As we reported earlier most Russian

:13:08. > :13:11.forces are leaving Syria and the mission has been declared a success

:13:12. > :13:13.by Vladimir Putin and has awarded medals to soldiers involved in the

:13:14. > :13:31.operation. He had already declared Russia's

:13:32. > :13:39.operation mission accomplished. St George 's Hall is where Russian

:13:40. > :13:44.stars celebrated military victories. We have created the conditions for a

:13:45. > :13:46.peace process the president said. This road to peace was opened by

:13:47. > :13:57.you, the soldiers of Russia. There were words of comfort for the

:13:58. > :14:03.widows of four soldiers killed in Syria. And a pledge that the war

:14:04. > :14:08.against terrorism would continue. Russia isn't pulling out all of its

:14:09. > :14:10.troops. And then in the medals. Russian soldiers made Russian

:14:11. > :14:26.heroes. So why all of the pond? Think of the

:14:27. > :14:30.circumstantial. This country lost an empire, the soppy union, the Cold

:14:31. > :14:34.War, that is why today the Kremlin is seeking new heroes and the

:14:35. > :14:41.victories to send a message that Russia once again is a great power.

:14:42. > :14:45.Two years ago Moscow's annexation of crime it was condemned by the West

:14:46. > :14:54.but the Kremlin used it to spark a wave of patriotism across Russia.

:14:55. > :14:59.Now with Russian pilots returning as heroes, Syria is betrayed as the

:15:00. > :15:04.latest triumph. Is Moscow now to be reliant on seeking military success?

:15:05. > :15:08.We have switched from a country of prosperity to a country of war, the

:15:09. > :15:17.country of permanent mobilisation and the authority needs new targets

:15:18. > :15:21.and new courses for the rally. If Russia is now in a state of

:15:22. > :15:25.permanent mobilisation, you can expect more patch it is at home and

:15:26. > :15:30.possibly more attention with the West. -- patriotism.

:15:31. > :15:41.Thank you Steve. Outside source was in South Africa if you weeks ago.

:15:42. > :15:45.Little controversy is not hard to come by in South Africa at the

:15:46. > :15:52.moment, you have the row about President Zuma and whether he spend

:15:53. > :15:55.public money and that goes on as an issue while all of those things

:15:56. > :15:59.happen, a whole new controversy has broken out. This is about President

:16:00. > :16:05.Zuma's relationship with one wealthy family. It began when this man, the

:16:06. > :16:09.deputy finance minister alleged that the Gupta family and offered to

:16:10. > :16:15.promote him in the government last year. They deny this but we do know

:16:16. > :16:22.the family has very large commercial interest in computers, air travel,

:16:23. > :16:25.energy and technology. We know one of the president wives used to work

:16:26. > :16:28.for a Gupta controlled company, his daughter was a director at the

:16:29. > :16:33.company and his son at another, not that in itself proves anything. This

:16:34. > :16:42.lorry is everywhere in cell Africa and as you would expect, it came up

:16:43. > :16:45.in Parliament. -- this story is. Storm cards gathered outside

:16:46. > :16:50.Parliament, inside Jacob Zuma was fighting tooth save his political

:16:51. > :16:54.skin. Emphatic that no one other than him determined to get a Cabinet

:16:55. > :16:59.job. I am in charge of the governments, I'm in charge and I

:17:00. > :17:04.appoint to stop in terms of the Constitution there is no minister

:17:05. > :17:09.who is here who was ever appointed by the Gupta's or anyone else. It

:17:10. > :17:16.wasn't enough to satisfy the opposition. Their leader pressing

:17:17. > :17:22.his point. Eventually rejected by the Speaker, forcing a mass

:17:23. > :17:25.walk-out. Afterwards looking agitated, I asked the Leader of the

:17:26. > :17:31.Opposition if the thought Jacob Zuma was lying. How can more people be

:17:32. > :17:36.coming out saying that the Gupta's offered cabinet positions? Even

:17:37. > :17:41.before they knew about when the next reshuffle is going, how can more

:17:42. > :17:45.people, great on such a grand lie? I think the president has mislead the

:17:46. > :17:50.people of South Africa. This is the wealthy family at the focus of the

:17:51. > :17:54.scandal. Jacob Zuma's son is employed by them pictured here. They

:17:55. > :18:00.seem to enjoy remarkable access to privilege. In 2013 they lent their

:18:01. > :18:05.private plane full of wedding guests at a military base in Pretoria. Now

:18:06. > :18:09.claims which they deny that the Gupta's offered a top Cabinet post

:18:10. > :18:17.to the junior minister which he said he turned down. Members of the Gupta

:18:18. > :18:22.family offered me a minister of finance position, I rejected this

:18:23. > :18:25.out of hand. The basis of my rejection of their offer is that it

:18:26. > :18:31.makes a mockery of our hard and democracy. The pressure has been

:18:32. > :18:37.mounting for President Zuma to be recalled or is that down. With

:18:38. > :18:42.elections later this year and with every new drama many now see him as

:18:43. > :18:47.a political liability and a man who is prepared to sacrifice democracy

:18:48. > :18:52.to the highest bidder. This saga isn't more than the influence of the

:18:53. > :18:57.wealthy family who enjoy access to power. It goes to the heart of a

:18:58. > :19:02.fundamental question, he ran South Africa, more than 20 years after the

:19:03. > :19:05.dawn of a new democracy? Is the executive held to account by

:19:06. > :19:11.Parliament or a powerful business clique. Jacob Zuma is a political

:19:12. > :19:16.survivor, key to his survival this time will be whether the top brass

:19:17. > :19:20.of the ANC will continue to dance to his June. The National executive

:19:21. > :19:23.committee is meeting this weekend to deliberate on the issue but it is

:19:24. > :19:32.not at all clear if they will have the stomach for a fight.

:19:33. > :19:38.An important point at the end of the reports because there is anyone

:19:39. > :19:43.party with a realistic chance, that being the African National Congress.

:19:44. > :19:48.Jacob Zuma and for him he has to concentrate surviving within his own

:19:49. > :19:52.party as he does concentrating on surviving in front of the Electra.

:19:53. > :19:56.Thank you for watching, if you're watching the football Man United are

:19:57. > :20:10.one goal ahead so they are 2-1 down in the tie.

:20:11. > :20:20.I'm Jessica Crichton and football first. In the last 16 of the road

:20:21. > :20:24.believed -- Europa League are up. Anthony Martial was brought down by

:20:25. > :20:28.Nathaniel Clyne on the half-hour mark and the Frenchman converted

:20:29. > :20:32.past goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. Liverpool still hold the advantage

:20:33. > :20:38.as they are 2-1 up one advantage. Also in action Tottenham face and a

:20:39. > :20:43.mighty task against Dortmund. They have gone a goal down against the

:20:44. > :20:48.German side. A brilliant strike midway through the first half. Spurs

:20:49. > :20:59.now need five goals to overcome their 4-0 aggregates. Eddie Jones

:21:00. > :21:02.months comments after Marlon made reference to the travel community

:21:03. > :21:06.background and the WRU said it was surprise that Marlon had escaped

:21:07. > :21:10.punishment even though Warren Gatland and Lee himself described it

:21:11. > :21:15.as banter. Marlon starts on the bench against France but Jones told

:21:16. > :21:22.our sports editor it is nothing to do with the incident. I let the

:21:23. > :21:27.process run its roots. We had run with it. The fact he is not starting

:21:28. > :21:32.is because you expected him to be banned? Notice the way we're playing

:21:33. > :21:41.at the weekend. You are not punishing him? Not at all. Are you

:21:42. > :21:48.reprimanding him? I've said it all, if you want me to say it again I

:21:49. > :21:52.will. Sure, why? I spoke to Joe and said it was inappropriate. Is that

:21:53. > :21:57.enough when it is a key value for the RFU? Some would say he is very

:21:58. > :22:04.fortunate to be included at the weekend? The Welsh think it is a

:22:05. > :22:07.racist comments, what erases? At one time yesterday they didn't and now

:22:08. > :22:13.they do. They are allowed to do that. Do you think it is racist?

:22:14. > :22:19.I've said what I have to say on the topic. There is one other change

:22:20. > :22:28.with Danny Care starting in front of Ben Youngs. They go for a first

:22:29. > :22:31.grandson Sleightholme -- grand slam title in 13 years. Eddie Jones as he

:22:32. > :22:34.has been the best side for the job. Vern Cotter has made three changes

:22:35. > :22:39.to his starting line-up for the final six Nations match against

:22:40. > :22:43.Ireland. Duncan Weir comes in fourth in Russell who was concussed against

:22:44. > :22:48.France. Brian Wilson also is included. A good day for the Irish

:22:49. > :22:53.on Saint Patrick's Day at the Cheltenham Festival. Six Irish

:22:54. > :22:59.winners on day three of the festival out of seven races. Fizzle crack

:23:00. > :23:05.justified his favourites tag to win a hurdle. Fittingly Saint Patrick's

:23:06. > :23:10.Day has been all about the Irish air. Six of the seven winners were

:23:11. > :23:16.trained in Ireland, the only one that wasn't won the day 's big day.

:23:17. > :23:22.Fizzle crack started as the even money favourite with Tom Scudamore.

:23:23. > :23:28.The horses trained by Colin Tizzard who started out working with cows.

:23:29. > :23:31.The rest of the time has been all about the Irish weather Davy Russell

:23:32. > :23:36.who was unseated at the start and went on to win the second or the

:23:37. > :23:43.dynamic duo of Ruby Walsh and Williams. Walsh now past 50 winners

:23:44. > :23:47.in his lifetime. The last day is all about the Gold cup and whether

:23:48. > :23:52.people like it or not, it is all about Victoria Pendleton. The former

:23:53. > :23:56.cyclist has barely ridden a horse year ago and she now goes into the

:23:57. > :24:05.amateur race, is that bold and adventurous or risky? If you will

:24:06. > :24:10.want to miss it. Philippe Coutinho has equalised for Liverpool making

:24:11. > :24:12.it 1-1 at half-time and stop still 3-1 to Liverpool on aggregate and

:24:13. > :24:20.that is all the spot for now and look ahead to the weather. Our dryer

:24:21. > :24:25.week of weather set to continue and Thursday was a beautiful day. Lots
