:00:18. > :00:22.Let's look through some of the main stories here in the BBC Newsroom.

:00:23. > :00:24.In Ecuador the death toll continues to rise.

:00:25. > :00:27.It's reached 350 today - the search is going on for survivors.

:00:28. > :00:29.After weeks of build-up in New York Democrat and Republican

:00:30. > :00:30.primaries voters will weigh-in on presidential

:00:31. > :00:47.We will be live with Katty Kay in DC soon.

:00:48. > :00:50.I'll have the latest from our Pop Up bureau in India.

:00:51. > :00:53.The team go in search for snake charmers.

:00:54. > :00:55.In a previous report they had featured a snake charmer.

:00:56. > :00:58.As you can see here, they got lots of messages asking not

:00:59. > :01:03.to cover snake charmers in India, - so they decided to find out why.

:01:04. > :01:12.We will have to report for you shortly. And in sport, it is going

:01:13. > :01:15.very well for Spurs in the Premier League, and we will have the latest

:01:16. > :01:22.NFL as well. It's the New York

:01:23. > :01:23.primaries tomorrow. We are in the strange situation

:01:24. > :01:26.where the two frontrunners, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton,

:01:27. > :01:28.both have leads that make them very hard to catch, but this still feels

:01:29. > :01:40.like it's not a done Lets talk to Katty Kay, live from

:01:41. > :01:45.the World News America studio in Washington, DC. Doing the maths, it

:01:46. > :01:51.looks like neither of them can be easily caught. Does New York matter?

:01:52. > :01:58.I know, we have kind of become statisticians. Every primary, no

:01:59. > :02:06.matter how many they went by, they then have to win subsequent primary

:02:07. > :02:11.is by X or Y percentage, so I now feel good data scientist! The reason

:02:12. > :02:14.it matters on the Republican side is that if Donald Trump does very well

:02:15. > :02:20.then the margin by which he has to win subsequent races declines, and

:02:21. > :02:25.the same is true of Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton, to all intents and

:02:26. > :02:29.purposes, it is very hard to imagine her not becoming the Democratic

:02:30. > :02:33.party nominee. That is not true on the Republican side so really I

:02:34. > :02:40.think this race is more interesting on the Republican side than the

:02:41. > :02:44.Democratic side. I can see are Tweet to the side of you on the screen,

:02:45. > :02:53.speaking about the Republicans. From Ted Cruz there, but are these issues

:02:54. > :02:56.on tax deciding how people vote? No, this is one of those strange

:02:57. > :03:01.campaigns were facts and issues have barely played a part. This Israeli

:03:02. > :03:07.about personality and protest. A little bit like we have seen in some

:03:08. > :03:11.European countries, frankly -- is really about. People are fed up with

:03:12. > :03:15.existing politicians and feel they want to show the establishment they

:03:16. > :03:20.have a choice, and that is to vote for some deals. Here is that irony

:03:21. > :03:25.about New York, to some extent. Donald Trump is going around saying,

:03:26. > :03:30.this is my time, I am a New Yorker, and I suppose he does own a lot of

:03:31. > :03:35.New York. But he is not exactly a typical New Yorker, yet in a poll

:03:36. > :03:40.that came out about an hour or so ago, it shows he is way ahead. He is

:03:41. > :03:43.managing to reach out to poor working-class New Yorkers, this man

:03:44. > :03:48.who built old towers over the city with his name emblazoned on them,

:03:49. > :03:53.and they love him, for his success and his ability to say to the

:03:54. > :04:01.Republican Party, we will do this my way. And a quick word on John. Why

:04:02. > :04:04.is he still in this race? He cannot possibly win it? Cannot win on that

:04:05. > :04:09.delegate count we were speaking about earlier, no numerical possible

:04:10. > :04:13.different to do that. He is staying in because he hopes if it gets to

:04:14. > :04:17.what is called a brokered convention at the end of July were no one has

:04:18. > :04:24.won the majority, the Republican Party will suddenly look at Ted Cruz

:04:25. > :04:26.and see, wow, this guy is wheelie Conservative on a whole range of

:04:27. > :04:31.issues and we don't like him and we also do not like Donald Trump, so

:04:32. > :04:35.perhaps they will put his do we make their weight behind him. It is a

:04:36. > :04:39.long shot but I suppose at this point he thinks there is no point in

:04:40. > :04:44.pulling out. We will have coverage of the New York primary is with

:04:45. > :04:45.Katty Kay and all my other Washington colleagues as the day

:04:46. > :04:46.goes on -- primaries. Dozens of people who were rescued

:04:47. > :04:49.as they tried to cross the Mediterranean say that at least

:04:50. > :04:51.500 others died when The migrants, from various

:04:52. > :04:55.East African countries, say they set They are now being held by the Greek

:04:56. > :04:59.authorities in Kalamata from where The Greek police are holding

:05:00. > :05:08.the 41 survivors in this We haven't been allowed

:05:09. > :05:13.to interview them on camera, but we have managed to speak

:05:14. > :05:16.to them, and they have told us what is a pretty

:05:17. > :05:18.extraordinary story. They say that last week they set off

:05:19. > :05:25.from the port of Tobruk in Libya and they set off, 240 of them in one

:05:26. > :05:28.boat, headed for Italy. But they say, in the middle

:05:29. > :05:30.of the Mediterranean, the traffickers transferred them

:05:31. > :05:35.from one boat to another much larger one, another wooden boat,

:05:36. > :05:37.but that was already full of more than 300 people that were trying

:05:38. > :05:42.to make it to Europe. They say in the middle

:05:43. > :05:45.of the night, that boat capsized and just these 41

:05:46. > :05:47.managed to survive. They believe that 500

:05:48. > :05:51.other people drowned. What happened to these 41 people,

:05:52. > :05:57.who include Ethiopians, Sudanese, Somalis and Egyptians,

:05:58. > :06:00.they say that a Filipino cargo ship rescued them and then brought them

:06:01. > :06:06.here to Greece, where, apparently, they initially were very,

:06:07. > :06:09.very reluctant to get on land. They didn't want to be handed over

:06:10. > :06:12.to the Greek authorities because they were so

:06:13. > :06:16.determined to get to Italy. Now, I ought to add that no

:06:17. > :06:20.officials have managed give any details about this disaster, which,

:06:21. > :06:23.if true, will be one of the worst to have happened since this entire

:06:24. > :06:34.migrant crisis began. Thanks to Will for that. No time for

:06:35. > :06:41.the sport. -- now it is time. It is only one game being played

:06:42. > :06:44.in the Premiere League today, Spurs are eight points behind

:06:45. > :06:54.Leicester, with one game more The last time I looked, Hugh, they

:06:55. > :07:01.were making the most of it? Yes, Tottenham Hotspur is enhancing their

:07:02. > :07:11.title credentials backing up that 3-0 win in that they currently

:07:12. > :07:20.Trent-mac. Harry Kane with the first stunning curling shot beating she

:07:21. > :07:26.given -- currently lead Stoke. Dele Alli could also make a big

:07:27. > :07:32.impression, his 10th of the season for Tottenham -- set-mac. Very

:07:33. > :07:36.comfortable from Maurizio Pochettino's side as they look set

:07:37. > :07:38.to close the gap at the top of the week to five points. That is going

:07:39. > :07:39.well for them. And Spurs' main rival Leicester

:07:40. > :07:42.was playing yesterday and there has been some controversy,

:07:43. > :07:52.right? Where are we with what ban Jamie

:07:53. > :07:56.Vardy Meggatt? During their 2-2 draw on Sunday, after he was sent off

:07:57. > :08:01.after referee John Moss judged he had deliberately dived and was

:08:02. > :08:05.trying to earn a penalty -- Jamie Vardy might get. He was given a

:08:06. > :08:10.charge by the football Association today, this time of improper

:08:11. > :08:16.conduct, could -- which could mean another one match ban so he could

:08:17. > :08:19.miss the big trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in May as

:08:20. > :08:25.well as their trip to Swansea. He would be sorely missed and Putnam

:08:26. > :08:31.hot spas are going further ahead, Dele Alli again, now 4-0 to them --

:08:32. > :08:38.Tottenham Hotspur 's going further ahead. Jamie Vardy, if he does not

:08:39. > :08:44.clear his charge, Leicester will need him.

:08:45. > :08:46.Lionel Messi took his career goals tally to 500 this weekend.

:08:47. > :08:54.BBC Sport posted this video earlier all about the achievement -

:08:55. > :09:51.Unbelievable. You can see that on the BBC sport app. Over 80 goals in

:09:52. > :09:53.one season! Here are the competitors

:09:54. > :09:56.in the North Pole Marathon. The temperature was

:09:57. > :09:58.around minus 40 Celsius. The venue was the Russian Barneo ice

:09:59. > :10:01.base, which is drifting by the way. The other is that several snipers

:10:02. > :10:05.were placed around the marathon circuit to protect the athletes

:10:06. > :10:07.from polar bears. The winner clocked five

:10:08. > :10:09.hours and 17 minutes. You could see that man holding a gun

:10:10. > :10:16.there. This is a story that got posted

:10:17. > :10:20.online just an hour or so ago and I spotted it in the Newsroom. Court

:10:21. > :10:26.holds 1,000,000,000-dollar concussion settlement against the

:10:27. > :10:31.NFL, and we know someone who likes to speak to us about this sport,

:10:32. > :10:43.Anthonythasan Jesuthasan. This sounds like big news for the NFL but

:10:44. > :10:50.I guess they knew it was coming -- Anthony Zurcher. Yes, but they can

:10:51. > :10:55.put it behind them. The -- they said the court was my decision was fair

:10:56. > :10:59.and it will include compensation for up to 20,000 players, ex-players,

:11:00. > :11:01.retired players. That will help people who have played the sport and

:11:02. > :11:08.suffered in one way or another because of that, but what about

:11:09. > :11:12.people playing now, if in 15 years' time they have problems, can they

:11:13. > :11:17.turn to the NFL and say, you all me some money? That is what critics say

:11:18. > :11:24.is the flaw in this plan, that it does not cover current players.

:11:25. > :11:25.Former players can be awarded up to $5,000 if they suffer from Lou

:11:26. > :11:30.Gehrig's disease but current players, if they are done with their

:11:31. > :11:34.career and they get early onset dementia or all timers, they will

:11:35. > :11:38.have to file suit just like their predecessors did and challenge the

:11:39. > :11:41.NFL, but at this point the NFL in point to certain concussion

:11:42. > :11:45.protocols they have already established and new equipment, new

:11:46. > :11:51.rules to help prevent somatic brain injury, so they may have a tougher

:11:52. > :11:58.time winning in court. Anthony, go to speak to you. I expect our paths

:11:59. > :12:01.Norcross tomorrow when we cover the New York primary. I just have a

:12:02. > :12:06.tweet asking if we are going to cover the explosion on a bus in

:12:07. > :12:13.Israel and the answer is, yes, we are. -- I expect our paths will

:12:14. > :12:19.cross. Here is information just in. The Jerusalem bus to blast -- bus

:12:20. > :12:24.blast was caused by a bomb. That is according to the Israeli police. I

:12:25. > :12:28.spoke to a reporter at the scene and this is what you told me. I am right

:12:29. > :12:32.at the scene where this blast happened during the evening rush

:12:33. > :12:41.hour to stop if you look behind me there is an emergency vehicle

:12:42. > :12:44.actually being used to tow away the last remains and we also have the

:12:45. > :12:48.charred remains of another bus here and a car caught up in the

:12:49. > :12:51.explosion. We understand the first bus had no passengers on board but

:12:52. > :12:56.those injured were mainly on board the second bus and in the car here.

:12:57. > :13:01.Traffic is now beginning to move to the scene but we have had dozens of

:13:02. > :13:04.emergency service workers here, including bomb disposal experts, and

:13:05. > :13:09.they are the ones who told the police it is now believed there was

:13:10. > :13:13.a small explosive device planted on the back of this first bus, causing

:13:14. > :13:18.this explosion. Very worrying for people here. There has of course,

:13:19. > :13:24.over the past six months, been an upsurge in violence, a series of

:13:25. > :13:30.Palestinian attacks on Israelis, but stabbings, shootings and car attacks

:13:31. > :13:34.in the main. These will bring back bad memories of the attacks that

:13:35. > :13:38.happened over a decade ago injury solum involving Palestinian

:13:39. > :13:42.militants had targeted buses. On the left-hand side of your screen I can

:13:43. > :13:45.see tweets coming in saying two seriously wounded, six moderately

:13:46. > :13:49.wounded. Is that in line with what you're hearing from people I've

:13:50. > :13:55.seen? That is right. We heard from the hospital that 21 people were

:13:56. > :13:59.taken for hospital treatment -- from people at the scene. Two people were

:14:00. > :14:02.said to be in a series condition. A few others in a moderate condition

:14:03. > :14:08.and others lightly injured. Thank you very much for that. I was

:14:09. > :14:12.speaking to her again just a little while ago on the number of people we

:14:13. > :14:15.thought were affected. I think one of the figures she said has since

:14:16. > :14:20.changed so I will update that for you in the next few minutes. Also,

:14:21. > :14:27.in about five minutes or so I will play you this report from the BBC

:14:28. > :14:30.Pop Up team, in India looking at snake charmers and why some Indians

:14:31. > :14:39.are uncomfortable with their association with it.

:14:40. > :14:46.Police here in the UK are appealing for information after an aircraft

:14:47. > :14:54.was hit by what appears to be a drone.

:14:55. > :14:56.As it came into land at Heathrow yesterday afternoon.

:14:57. > :14:59.The plane was at about 1700 feet when it was struck.

:15:00. > :15:02.The police are asking for members of the public to look out

:15:03. > :15:06.Pilots have been warning about this for a long time, as the BBC's

:15:07. > :15:10.transport correspondent Richard Westcott explains.

:15:11. > :15:12.For months, pilots have warned it would happen.

:15:13. > :15:15.After 40 near misses last year, it seems a drone has now hit

:15:16. > :15:18.an aircraft coming in to land, this time at Heathrow.

:15:19. > :15:21.The damage was minimal, but it could have been much worse.

:15:22. > :15:23.We're pretty sure that if a drone went down a jet engine,

:15:24. > :15:27.Now, there is lots of research about bird strikes on aircraft,

:15:28. > :15:30.and some people are saying, well, you can use that information,

:15:31. > :15:32.but that is just lazy, because birds are not made

:15:33. > :15:35.of plastic and metal, and they do not have big

:15:36. > :15:38.metal batteries in them, so we think if that battery ends up

:15:39. > :15:41.This is the research he's talking about.

:15:42. > :15:43.For years, they have tested the impact of

:15:44. > :15:46.Now there is a call for similar research

:15:47. > :15:50.It is estimated around a million drones were sold around

:15:51. > :16:20.It is estimated around a million drones were sold around

:16:21. > :16:23.Many thousands of those were in the UK.

:16:24. > :16:26.Now, if you buy one in a shop you should get a leaflet telling

:16:27. > :16:31.Buy a kit online, put it together yourself, you may not be told.

:16:32. > :16:34.You can be fined or even face prison if you break the drone rules,

:16:35. > :16:36.but is enough being done to warn people?

:16:37. > :16:40.At best, you get a piece of paper with the rules on it.

:16:41. > :16:42.No one educates you, tells you what the risks

:16:43. > :16:46.are and what the fines and penalties will be if you break it.

:16:47. > :16:48.It is just a sales process, not an education process.

:16:49. > :16:50.Police are investigating the possible drone strike

:16:51. > :16:52.at Heathrow, but despite dozens of near misses recently,

:16:53. > :16:54.just a handful of owners have ever been prosecuted.

:16:55. > :16:56.It's claimed that poorer families in England are losing out

:16:57. > :16:59.in the competition for places at the best primary schools.

:17:00. > :17:01.Today parents have been finding out where their children

:17:02. > :17:04.The new research from the education charity, Teach First,

:17:05. > :17:06.says children with poorer backgrounds are four

:17:07. > :17:08.times more likely to be at less successful schools.

:17:09. > :17:10.It suggests recruiting more highly qualified teachers in poorer areas,

:17:11. > :17:12.where schools face more challenges because of greater levels

:17:13. > :17:16.This is Outside Source live from the BBC Newsroom.

:17:17. > :17:26.Still coming from Ecuador where rescue workers are pulling people

:17:27. > :17:29.from the rubble. The death toll from the weekend's earthquake is at

:17:30. > :17:30.around 350. Katty Kay will be back next

:17:31. > :17:39.on World News America - they have a special report looking

:17:40. > :17:42.ahead to the New York Primary. And if you're here in the UK -

:17:43. > :17:46.The News at Ten will have the first in a series of reports looking

:17:47. > :17:48.at this week's 90th A big story here in the UK

:17:49. > :17:57.is the release of a major document from the Government detailing why

:17:58. > :18:00.a vote to leave the European Union Needless to say this

:18:01. > :18:09.is being heavily contested by those We can agree that how

:18:10. > :18:22.these figures came about Here's the BBC's political editor,

:18:23. > :18:38.Laura Kuenssberg pointed out -- The headline statistics

:18:39. > :18:40.from the Government are that leaving That's 6% of GDP and

:18:41. > :18:46.and would mean a cut In the high 30s, if you're speaking

:18:47. > :18:56.about pounds. BBC News has a reality check

:18:57. > :19:07.team working on this - The way they have worked this out in

:19:08. > :19:12.this meaty 200 pages of analysis is that they have worked it out in

:19:13. > :19:16.terms of how much it would cut from GDP then they have divided that by

:19:17. > :19:19.the number of households, so the answer you get is GDP per household,

:19:20. > :19:24.the total amount produced in the country, the loss from that, then

:19:25. > :19:28.that is divided among the number of households and that is how you get

:19:29. > :19:32.to this figure you see in the poster behind George Osborne of 4003 other

:19:33. > :19:45.pounds. How do they come up with the figure that GDP will be hit --? 4000

:19:46. > :19:48.and ?3000 -- 4000 ?300 that is about what would happen with the

:19:49. > :19:54.particular effects they are speaking about from leaving the EU -- ?4300.

:19:55. > :19:58.The problem is the poster behind George Osborne speaks about a cost

:19:59. > :20:01.to each family of ?4300 so they are confusing GDP per household with

:20:02. > :20:05.household income, which is not the same thing at all. One thing leads

:20:06. > :20:10.into another. It is not on a pound for pound basis so I am appeared on

:20:11. > :20:15.day one, poster one, they have the numbers are that wrong. And the tax

:20:16. > :20:21.number, 51 billion? Does this follow from the initial 6%? Yes, and it

:20:22. > :20:24.depends how you feel about economic forecasting, economic modelling, how

:20:25. > :20:28.you feel about that. If you're not interested in economic modelling

:20:29. > :20:31.influencing your decision, that is a perfectly fair decision. It is a

:20:32. > :20:34.long way out to be making these sorts of decisions and there are big

:20:35. > :20:38.assumptions made on the way, so that is fine, then look away and come

:20:39. > :20:43.back when we speak about another issue. If you're interested in

:20:44. > :20:45.economic forecasting, this is basically a sensible economic

:20:46. > :20:49.forecast. The figures, the headline figures, they are not terribly

:20:50. > :20:52.important. The important thing is the Treasury is coming out and

:20:53. > :20:57.saying, we think this will be considerably bad thing for the UK

:20:58. > :21:02.economy, and sort of putting some figures to it as well. And the

:21:03. > :21:06.reality check team from BBC News are posting regularly online so if you

:21:07. > :21:09.use this BBC news at our website you will see them help and us cover the

:21:10. > :21:24.campaign as we build up to the referendum in June.

:21:25. > :21:30.As promised, I have the latest report from the BBC Pop Up team in

:21:31. > :21:35.India. In a previous report they had

:21:36. > :21:38.featured a snake charmer. As you can see here,

:21:39. > :21:41.they got lots of messages asking not to cover snake charmers in India, -

:21:42. > :21:44.so they decided to find out why. Snake charmers have been
