:00:14. > :00:19.This is Outside Soars. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have both spoken

:00:20. > :00:27.about the attack on the nightclub in Orlando. It is long past time for

:00:28. > :00:35.the Saudis, and for Kuwait and others to stop their citizens from

:00:36. > :00:38.funding extremist organisations. More of the 49er victims been named

:00:39. > :00:45.by authorities. Five are still a critical condition in hospital. --

:00:46. > :00:50.49 victims. A hard-core gang of Russian hooligans were at the heart

:00:51. > :00:54.of the violence in Euro 2016, according to a French prosecutor.

:00:55. > :00:59.Six people have been jailed in France for their part in football

:01:00. > :01:03.related violence. Oscar Pistorius has been in court for his sentencing

:01:04. > :01:07.hearing after he was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend. A

:01:08. > :01:12.psychologist told the court he was suffering from depression and

:01:13. > :01:18.anxiety. You can get in touch using the hash tag BBC OS or sending me a

:01:19. > :01:36.message at... We start in Florida. Orlando is

:01:37. > :01:40.reeling from the biggest mass shooting in recent US history.

:01:41. > :01:45.President Obama said there is no evidence the nightclub killer was

:01:46. > :01:48.part of a larger plot. In the last few hours both candidates for the

:01:49. > :01:57.White House have given their reaction to the tragedy.

:01:58. > :02:08.We and our allies must work hand in hand to dismantle the networks

:02:09. > :02:21.moving money and propaganda... There are fighters around the world. We

:02:22. > :02:26.have two flow. We have two stem the flow of jihadist is from Europe and

:02:27. > :02:32.America, to a rack, Syria and Afghanistan and back again. -- Iraq.

:02:33. > :02:37.The only way to do this is by working closely with our partners. I

:02:38. > :02:41.called for a ban of the San Bernardino and was met with great

:02:42. > :02:46.anger. But now many years and I have to say many years, but many are

:02:47. > :02:52.saying I was right to do so. Although the pause is temporary, we

:02:53. > :02:57.must find out what is going on. We had to do that. It will be lifted,

:02:58. > :03:01.this ban, when and as a nation we are in a position to properly and

:03:02. > :03:05.perfectly screen of these people coming into our country. They are

:03:06. > :03:12.pouring in and we do not know what we are doing.

:03:13. > :03:25.I believe weapons of war have no place on our streets. And... We may

:03:26. > :03:29.have our disagreements about gun safety regulations, but we should

:03:30. > :03:38.all be able to agree on a few essential things. If the FBI is

:03:39. > :03:42.watching you for suspected terrorist links, you should not be able to

:03:43. > :03:50.just go and buy a gun with no questions asked. She wants to take

:03:51. > :03:53.away American's guns and admit the very people who want to slur Haas,

:03:54. > :03:59.let them come into the country, we do not have guns, let them come in

:04:00. > :04:03.and have all the fun they want. I will be meeting with the NRA, which

:04:04. > :04:07.has given me their earliest endorsement in a presidential race,

:04:08. > :04:13.to discuss how to make sure Americans have the means to protect

:04:14. > :04:18.themselves in this age of terror. I will always be defending the second

:04:19. > :04:21.amendment. Just a little of what Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

:04:22. > :04:24.have said in the last couple of hours. Here is our correspondent,

:04:25. > :04:29.who has been watching from Washington. This tragedy became

:04:30. > :04:34.politicised almost immediately in an election year, of course. How would

:04:35. > :04:39.you sum up the main thrust of the arguments from both candidates? I

:04:40. > :04:43.was surprised when I was reporting this story yesterday how quickly

:04:44. > :04:48.politics came into it. I thought there might be a hiatus in terms

:04:49. > :04:52.presidential election campaigning, at least on Sunday while they try to

:04:53. > :04:56.sort out who was dead and in hospital and dealing with the

:04:57. > :05:00.tragedy. Very quickly it became clear it was getting wrapped up in

:05:01. > :05:04.the political campaign. You heard Donald Trump going straight after

:05:05. > :05:10.Hillary Clinton. He mentioned her several times by name in the course

:05:11. > :05:12.of his speech today. He is trying to say he will be much tougher on

:05:13. > :05:17.terrorism and have this temporary ban on Muslims, be tough on

:05:18. > :05:23.immigration in general, and he said that what stop potential terrorist

:05:24. > :05:28.is coming in, but of course the shooter in Orlando was born in New

:05:29. > :05:32.York and was an American citizen. Hillary Clinton almost attacked it

:05:33. > :05:35.from a point of view of diplomacy, calling on American allies, if you

:05:36. > :05:40.like to call them that, in the Middle East, to do more to stop

:05:41. > :05:44.funding terrorism and addressing the gun control issue, a completely

:05:45. > :05:50.different attitude on that issue from the candidates. This is the

:05:51. > :05:55.biggest mass shooting in recent US history. How much do you think it

:05:56. > :06:00.will set the tone in the months to come in the campaign? I think it

:06:01. > :06:07.will set the tone of the next few weeks. Whether it has a big impact

:06:08. > :06:11.in November we will have to see. San Bernardino happened last year and

:06:12. > :06:15.people still remember that. But it is not as fresh in their mind and

:06:16. > :06:18.the election is five months away. We know national security is an

:06:19. > :06:23.important issue for American voters already. Particularly for Republican

:06:24. > :06:28.voters, who have ranked it in their top three concerns in the country,

:06:29. > :06:30.and who say they are looking for a president they think will be much

:06:31. > :06:36.tougher on terrorism than President Obama. I think we will see maybe a

:06:37. > :06:39.boost for Donald Trump after his speech today and after his reaction

:06:40. > :06:45.the supporters will like what he said about access to guns and

:06:46. > :06:49.potentially the Muslim ban, which polled very well in Republican

:06:50. > :06:54.primaries. I think they will like those strong words. Liberals on the

:06:55. > :06:58.other hand, supporters of Hillary Clinton say it will be time to talk

:06:59. > :07:02.about gun control, it is not just about terrorism and we are avoiding

:07:03. > :07:06.a critical issue in the country. It is going to cause even bigger splits

:07:07. > :07:09.between these different camps. Cassie, thank you very much.

:07:10. > :07:17.We will show you how the attack unfolded. 49 people died when Omar

:07:18. > :07:23.Mateen stormed into that nightclub at two o'clock in the morning. There

:07:24. > :07:28.were more than 300 people inside the nightclub at the time. A hostage

:07:29. > :07:31.situation developed and it was while Omar Mateen was holed up in the

:07:32. > :07:36.bathroom he made a call to police and pledged his allegiance to

:07:37. > :07:39.so-called Islamic State. At five o'clock in the morning police

:07:40. > :07:44.stormed the club and exchanged fire with the attacker. He was killed.

:07:45. > :07:50.One police officer's life was saved after a bullet hit his helmet. We

:07:51. > :07:54.can see the damage but it saved his life. The FBI said Omar Mateen had

:07:55. > :07:58.previously been investigated for possible links to terrorism but

:07:59. > :08:01.agents concluded he was not a threat and questions will be asked about

:08:02. > :08:04.whether he should have been on a watch list. Jon Sobel sends this

:08:05. > :08:09.report from Orlando. At a former school turned

:08:10. > :08:11.old people's home, They came in their twos and threes,

:08:12. > :08:15.clinging to each other, bracing themselves for the worst

:08:16. > :08:17.possible news from the authorities. The process of identifying

:08:18. > :08:19.the bodies goes on. For the families, an unbearable

:08:20. > :08:25.wait. Meanwhile, survivors have been

:08:26. > :08:27.telling their stories. I want to say it lasted

:08:28. > :08:29.for about eight minutes. He kept on shooting and shooting and

:08:30. > :08:43.shooting and walking around. Another ammunition, then change,

:08:44. > :08:47.put another ammunition. New video has emerged

:08:48. > :08:54.from inside the club. It's just after 2am and this

:08:55. > :08:56.reveller was filming on his smartphone as

:08:57. > :09:01.the first shots rang out. These are pictures of some

:09:02. > :09:04.of the young people who've been identified as having

:09:05. > :09:05.lost their lives. He was texting his mother as he was

:09:06. > :09:13.trapped in the bathroom of the club. Christopher Leinonen

:09:14. > :09:14.was unaccounted for. His mother spoke as she waited

:09:15. > :09:18.for news. When he was in high school, he

:09:19. > :09:24.started the gay-straight alliance. We're on this earth

:09:25. > :09:37.for such a short time. Today she found out that Christopher

:09:38. > :09:40.and his boyfriend didn't survive. On the patio area, the gunfire

:09:41. > :09:50.was heard over the loud music, some managed to escape

:09:51. > :09:52.through the fence, even Others hid in the toilets,

:09:53. > :09:56.calling police and texting friends It was the last time some families

:09:57. > :10:03.heard from their loved ones. Those additional officers made entry

:10:04. > :10:06.while the suspect was shooting with the suspect, forced him to stop

:10:07. > :10:10.shooting and retreat to the bathroom, where we believe

:10:11. > :10:12.he had several hostages. At that time, we were able

:10:13. > :10:15.to save and rescue dozens and dozens of people who were injured and not

:10:16. > :10:18.injured and get them out Today, Barack Obama said that it

:10:19. > :10:31.seems he was acting alone. At this stage, we see no clear

:10:32. > :10:34.evidence that he was It does appear that at the last

:10:35. > :10:37.minute, he announced But there's no evidence, so far,

:10:38. > :10:55.that he was, in fact, directed. Mateen's father said he had no

:10:56. > :10:58.idea his son had such I'm very sad and I'm

:10:59. > :11:02.very mad and angry - The United States, my mentality is

:11:03. > :11:24.the United States, we are a family. In Washington, a gay men's choir

:11:25. > :11:27.sang and vigils have been The pain in the gay community

:11:28. > :11:42.is acute and America's sense of insecurity and vulnerability has

:11:43. > :11:58.intensified still further. We will be living in Orlando in a

:11:59. > :12:03.few minutes. Also coming up, we will be at the world's biggest video game

:12:04. > :12:05.show shortly. There is concern about showing the most violent games in

:12:06. > :12:18.the wake of the Orlando attack. Here in the UK, the Home Secretary

:12:19. > :12:25.said the Orlando attack was an act of, the big hatred. The attacks in

:12:26. > :12:31.Orlando were utterly evil has the government condemns them completely.

:12:32. > :12:36.-- homophobe Vic. 350 people were injured, many, seriously. They were

:12:37. > :12:39.enjoying a night out when these attacks took place. Our hearts go

:12:40. > :12:44.out to them, their family and friends. It is the deadliest mass

:12:45. > :12:51.shooting in US history. It was an outrage committed to spread fear,

:12:52. > :12:57.born out of hatred. US authorities are treating it as a terrorist

:12:58. > :13:03.attack and Daesh have claimed responsibility. It is clear this

:13:04. > :13:06.attack has roots in a twisted ideology, counting homophobia as a

:13:07. > :13:09.cornerstone in a warped worldview. It was not just an act of terror,

:13:10. > :13:24.but homophobia and hatred. You're watching Downside Source. Our

:13:25. > :13:29.top story, President Obama has said there is no evidence the Orlando

:13:30. > :13:34.killer was part of a larger plot but he appeared to have been inspired by

:13:35. > :13:37.radical views on the Internet. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump

:13:38. > :13:42.have spoken about the shooting in the last few hours. We will catch up

:13:43. > :13:45.with what other parts of the BBC are reporting right now. The head of

:13:46. > :13:52.Nato said the allowance will announce it is sending four

:13:53. > :13:57.battalions to reinforce the Baltic states and Poland is, he said it was

:13:58. > :14:00.in response to Russian aggression in the Ukraine but Russia denies

:14:01. > :14:05.involvement there. There are currently military exercises in

:14:06. > :14:10.Poland. BBC Russia is covering that story. 3000 people had been arrested

:14:11. > :14:13.in Baghdad as part of a drive against Islamist militants.

:14:14. > :14:17.Authorities of come under mounting pressure after a series of attacks

:14:18. > :14:22.targeting secular bloggers, academics and members of religious

:14:23. > :14:28.mime like -- minorities. That is a big story on BBC Bengali. We will

:14:29. > :14:32.get the latest football action from Euro 2016 later but first we will

:14:33. > :14:37.get an update on the crowd violence in that match between England and

:14:38. > :14:44.Russia. The Marseille prosecutor said there were 150 Russian fans who

:14:45. > :14:51.were well-prepared for ultra rapid violent action. The reaction from

:14:52. > :14:55.the Russian government was swift. The sports minister said, some

:14:56. > :15:01.people went not to watch football, that is for sure, and such behaviour

:15:02. > :15:05.was a disgrace for this country. It is not just Russian fans being

:15:06. > :15:08.blamed. Five England fans have been jailed and banned from France for

:15:09. > :15:13.their part in the trouble in Marseille in the days before the

:15:14. > :15:16.match. Uefa is a sneak England and Russia with difficulty to give the

:15:17. > :15:24.fans misbehave. Roy Hodgson has appealed for calm.

:15:25. > :15:34.As England manager, I am concerned about the threat of sanctions which

:15:35. > :15:38.are hanging over us. We worked hard to get you and want desperately to

:15:39. > :15:44.stay in the competition and I appeal to all our fans, and I appreciate

:15:45. > :15:47.your support at the matches of course, I am appealing to you to

:15:48. > :15:52.stay out of trouble so that these threats are never carried out and we

:15:53. > :15:56.are able to attempt to do the best we can to stay in this competition

:15:57. > :16:01.by football means. It had been some interesting

:16:02. > :16:07.responses. One from a Russian MP who says, I see nothing wrong with

:16:08. > :16:12.football fans fighting. On the contrary, well done to our boys.

:16:13. > :16:16.Keep up the good work. Our Moscow correspondent has more on the

:16:17. > :16:20.reaction in Russia. Violence has been part of Russian

:16:21. > :16:25.football for years and the irony is that a lot of the Russians learned

:16:26. > :16:28.what they know from the anguish. No one of the hooligans tells me they

:16:29. > :16:35.are beating the anguish at their own games. There's also a right ideology

:16:36. > :16:41.at the heart of some of this and racism is a big part of it. Black

:16:42. > :16:46.players receive insults and have monkey chants thrown at them. I have

:16:47. > :16:52.seen this myself. This is Russian hooligans trying to prove their

:16:53. > :16:55.supremacy. One of the key characteristics is that they work

:16:56. > :17:03.out and they do not strength. One former hooligan is that -- described

:17:04. > :17:07.themselves as athletes. I think it is a normal situation

:17:08. > :17:17.because fans from England and Russia meet each other and it is very easy

:17:18. > :17:23.to predict this situation. Before I heard a lot about the fury of

:17:24. > :17:36.English hooligans so it is quite strange that Russia wins this

:17:37. > :17:41.situation. I don't like football. There are a lot of sanctions already

:17:42. > :17:44.saw another one or two is not a big duel.

:17:45. > :17:47.I don't think it is normal for our people. We must be more careful and

:17:48. > :17:54.more tolerant to each other and don't do it.

:17:55. > :17:58.Next up, business and big news from Microsoft which announced today that

:17:59. > :18:06.it is buying the professional service LinkedIn. This is by far

:18:07. > :18:17.Microsoft's largest acquisition so wires had made the move? Could it do

:18:18. > :18:24.with this number of users? Here is what the two bosses had to say.

:18:25. > :18:32.It is about raiding the next wave of technology. It is about a mobile

:18:33. > :18:36.club in bringing those things together and it is at the core of

:18:37. > :18:41.Microsoft. When you think about Microsoft you think about

:18:42. > :18:45.professionals and knowledge solving ability and there is no better way

:18:46. > :18:49.to realise that than making people more successful and productive.

:18:50. > :18:56.And let us not forget successful acquisitions like mine craft, which

:18:57. > :19:01.has been amazing. We think LinkedIn will build on

:19:02. > :19:09.that. What has been your reaction?

:19:10. > :19:13.A lot of people had a bit of shock when you look at the number and how

:19:14. > :19:20.much Microsoft is paying for LinkedIn. When you think about how

:19:21. > :19:27.much Facebook purchased WhatsApp for, the only paid $19 billion for

:19:28. > :19:33.it. Initially shocked at how much they paid.

:19:34. > :19:39.It is by far Microsoft's biggest purchase. What is in it for them?

:19:40. > :19:45.Microsoft is a company that really built its reputation on PCs, actual

:19:46. > :19:50.computers and printers. But as we all know that is out. There's not as

:19:51. > :19:58.much as Mr B had their so Microsoft needs to reinvent themselves. The

:19:59. > :20:02.new CEO is trying to build on different acquisitions. Some of

:20:03. > :20:07.Microsoft's acquisitions in the past have not worked out so well, for

:20:08. > :20:14.example Nokia, they had to write all of that off. But they are no

:20:15. > :20:17.purchasing other companies to build up Microsoft to what you like at it

:20:18. > :20:24.from that perspective and then look at LinkedIn, it makes a lot of sense

:20:25. > :20:27.because they are both doing both companies and these strong online

:20:28. > :20:34.presences. There is a harmony between the businesses.

:20:35. > :20:38.Thanks very much. We are going to go across to the

:20:39. > :20:43.west coast of the United States and the gaming industry has descended on

:20:44. > :20:51.Los Angeles for E3, the biggest gaming industry convention. Some of

:20:52. > :20:53.the violence in the video games will be toned down in the wave of the

:20:54. > :21:10.Orlando attack. It is that time of year when the

:21:11. > :21:14.games industry descends in their thousands to Los Angeles for E3. For

:21:15. > :21:17.gaming fans, it is the first chance to look at some titles that could be

:21:18. > :21:19.the blockbuster hits of the next 12 months.

:21:20. > :21:29.What have you seen that caught your eye?

:21:30. > :21:32.The mesmerising sequel. I'm really looking forward to how

:21:33. > :21:37.different it will be this time around. It is still kind of a teaser

:21:38. > :21:44.so we do not know everything yet but I'm looking for more on that front.

:21:45. > :21:50.World where, adventure and the unknown come together.

:21:51. > :21:54.Many gamers will have scenes of violence and shooting and war but

:21:55. > :21:57.after the scenes and Orlando, many people expect things to be more

:21:58. > :22:01.sombre. Do you think what has happened will

:22:02. > :22:07.change the tone this year? It is hard not to just because it is

:22:08. > :22:12.present on everyone's mind. It is hard not to be affected by it.

:22:13. > :22:17.I thought they would mention during the press conference ended the

:22:18. > :22:23.month. But maybe that's how it has to be because how do you come out

:22:24. > :22:28.and talk about that and then show games were you should people in the

:22:29. > :22:32.face for fun? It is hard to see it as a game when

:22:33. > :22:36.reality is creeping in and we are dealing with these issues.

:22:37. > :22:39.Psychologists has told the court in South Africa that the athlete Oscar

:22:40. > :22:43.Pistorius are suffering from depression and anxiety and isn't

:22:44. > :22:49.able to testify at a sentencing hearing. It faces a jail term of at

:22:50. > :22:52.least 15 years for murdering his girlfriend in 2013. The original

:22:53. > :23:01.verdict of manslaughter was overturned on appeal.

:23:02. > :23:04.Oscar Pistorius arrived in court knowing these could be his last few

:23:05. > :23:08.The same judge who convicted him of manslaughter back in 2014 now

:23:09. > :23:11.Among those at the hearing, members of Reeva Steenkamp's family,

:23:12. > :23:15.including her father, Barry Steenkamp.

:23:16. > :23:19.Absent for much of the trial, he's indicated he would like to testify

:23:20. > :23:25.before the man who shot his daughter dead learns of his fate.

:23:26. > :23:28.First though, for the defence, a psychologist who spent time

:23:29. > :23:32.with Oscar Pistorius, who said his condition had deteriorated.

:23:33. > :23:34.One point of consideration, given if it was possible

:23:35. > :23:37.to call him as a witness, what is your view on that,

:23:38. > :23:42.Currently in my opinion he is not able to testify.

:23:43. > :23:48.This was the glamorous couple, the athlete and his girlfriend

:23:49. > :23:54.But three years ago on Valentine's Day this house

:23:55. > :23:59.The Paralympian fired four shots, killing Reeva

:24:00. > :24:07.He maintained it was a dreadful mistake.
