:00:11. > :00:15.Let's look through some of the main stories here in the BBC Newsroom.

:00:16. > :00:18.Police in Brazil have broken up a terror cell which they say

:00:19. > :00:22.was planning attacks during the Rio Olympics.

:00:23. > :00:24.Theresa May has met Francois Hollande in Paris.

:00:25. > :00:27.He's made it clear that he wants negotiations over Brexit to start

:00:28. > :00:32.The town of Manbij in Syria is a key battleground

:00:33. > :00:38.Our reporter has gained exclusive access to the town.

:00:39. > :00:42.We'll play you his report in a moment.

:00:43. > :00:45.And we'll get more reaction to Sam Allardyce being named England

:00:46. > :01:09.Let's turn to the fight against Islamic State in Syria.

:01:10. > :01:12.The town of Manbij in northern Syria is one of the key

:01:13. > :01:15.Western-backed fighters have given so called Islamic State 48

:01:16. > :01:19.There have also been reports of over 50 civilians killed in the area

:01:20. > :01:23.The BBC's Feras Kilani and his team were the first international

:01:24. > :01:25.broadcasters to make it into the city.

:01:26. > :01:39.We join these Kurdish-led forces as they put pressure

:01:40. > :01:45.Backed by US air power, they have slowly surrounded

:01:46. > :02:12.The Syrian democratic forces are advancing into the Manbij

:02:13. > :02:16.As you can see here, the fight against the Islamic State

:02:17. > :02:22.group is street by street and house by house.

:02:23. > :02:28.Located close to the Turkish border, the city has been a key meeting

:02:29. > :02:39.And now they live homeless on its edges.

:02:40. > :02:43.For three days thousands of them have queued for bread.

:02:44. > :02:50.TRANSLATION: We fled IS ten days ago.

:02:51. > :02:53.We're lucky to survive as bombs were flying over our heads.

:02:54. > :02:56.Since then we haven't received a single piece of bread.

:02:57. > :03:07.Rumours about a rare food delivery sparks a race across town.

:03:08. > :03:10.Off camera, many of these people told us they were better off under

:03:11. > :03:22.The Kurdish led forces are in danger of losing their support.

:03:23. > :03:36.Look at our situation, children, women, elderly,

:03:37. > :03:41.Despite this, these people are fortunate.

:03:42. > :03:44.25,000 civilians are still trapped inside Manbij at the mercy

:03:45. > :03:50.This released footage is the image of the air campaign

:03:51. > :04:05.But the reality can often be very different.

:04:06. > :04:08.In the last couple of days, it's been reported around

:04:09. > :04:10.100 civilians have been killed by Western bombs.

:04:11. > :04:15.Despite that, the weight of airstrikes is taking its toll on IS.

:04:16. > :04:17.Losing men and ground, they are slowly being defeated

:04:18. > :04:22.But this has pushed them to launch attacks across the world.

:04:23. > :04:27.And they are much harder to defend against.

:04:28. > :04:33.Feras Kilani, BBC News, Manbij, northern Syria.

:04:34. > :04:35.A Florida police officer shot and wounded a unarmed black man

:04:36. > :04:38.while he was trying to help a patient with autism.

:04:39. > :04:46.Charles Kinsey is a caretaker and says he had gone into the street

:04:47. > :04:54.to assist his patient and get him to return to a treatment facility.

:04:55. > :04:58.-- behavioural therapist Charles Kinsey.

:04:59. > :05:01.An unarmed black man with his hands in the air,

:05:02. > :05:03.Trying to explain to police he is a therapist looking

:05:04. > :05:06.after a young man with autism, whose toy truck has been mistaken

:05:07. > :05:10.He pleads with his patient to lie down on his stomach.

:05:11. > :05:22.The police had responded to an emergency call that a man

:05:23. > :05:25.was brandishing a gun and threatening suicide.

:05:26. > :05:28.The video ends before the therapist, Charles Kinsey, was shot

:05:29. > :05:36.But you can hear him trying desperately to calm the situation.

:05:37. > :05:51.I stick up my hands and I say, "I just got shot."

:05:52. > :05:55.And his words to me, he said, "I don't know."

:05:56. > :05:57.No weapon was found at the scene even though an officer

:05:58. > :06:02.Charles Kinsey's lawyer, the son of a policeman himself,

:06:03. > :06:08.There is no justification for shooting an unarmed person

:06:09. > :06:14.who is talking to you and telling you that they don't have a gun

:06:15. > :06:15.and they are a mental health counsellor.

:06:16. > :06:17.I just don't understand, there can

:06:18. > :06:24.This summer has seen weeks of protests about the police

:06:25. > :06:27.treatment of African Americans and also the killing of police

:06:28. > :06:30.officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, seemingly in retaliation.

:06:31. > :06:34.The last thing this country needs is yet another racial flash point.

:06:35. > :06:45.Nick Bryant, BBC News, Washington.

:06:46. > :06:48.Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed they've been bought

:06:49. > :06:49.by the Chinese conglomerate Fosun International.

:06:50. > :06:51.The takeover is thought to be worth ?45 million.

:06:52. > :06:55.In an open letter to fans, owner Steve Morgan said:

:06:56. > :06:59."It is the right time to be handing the baton on to someone else to take

:07:00. > :07:14.Let's get more from John Watson at the BBC Sport Centre.

:07:15. > :07:17.Wolves aren't the first English club to be snapped up by

:07:18. > :07:29.Absolutely not. Fosun, one of the largest Chinese investors,

:07:30. > :07:34.purchasing Wolverhampton wanderers for around ?45 million, a club who

:07:35. > :07:39.finished 14th in the championship last season, the second tier of

:07:40. > :07:42.English football. It follows the purchase earlier this year of

:07:43. > :07:49.another West Midlands club, Aston Villa, which was bought by a Chinese

:07:50. > :07:55.businessman. So why the investment in these clubs? I think this shows a

:07:56. > :08:02.willingness on behalf of Chinese investors to invest in established

:08:03. > :08:06.English clubs with large fan bases, large stadiums, perhaps with a

:08:07. > :08:09.little bit, perhaps a lot of investment, they could be restored

:08:10. > :08:16.to former glories. I guess this forms part of the Chinese president,

:08:17. > :08:21.Xi Jinping's big plan to establish China as a football by the

:08:22. > :08:24.superpower by 2020. He said he would like China to win the World Cup.

:08:25. > :08:30.They have already established academies in China and I suppose

:08:31. > :08:31.this goes alongside their efforts to establish themselves as a global

:08:32. > :08:34.football superstar. Let's stay with football,

:08:35. > :08:37.because last night we told you that Sam Allardyce is set to be

:08:38. > :08:39.England's new manager. But many fans are far

:08:40. > :08:41.from happy about it. They see him as a dinosaur who plays

:08:42. > :08:44.long-ball football, and point out So what does he have to say

:08:45. > :09:03.about it? That is what you always have to do

:09:04. > :09:08.as a manager, tried to get the best out of any group of players,

:09:09. > :09:15.whatever division you are in. This is football from the 19th century.

:09:16. > :09:19.He can't take it, we just can't take it because we have played tactically

:09:20. > :09:30.and outwitted him. You can't cope. He can tell me all he wants, I don't

:09:31. > :09:36.give a BLEEP. Brilliant 21st century by the players this afternoon. The

:09:37. > :09:43.two fullbacks had a shocker. Any idea who is signing them? B I didn't

:09:44. > :09:46.make those mistakes. Man United got desperate long balls in the box time

:09:47. > :09:55.after time and in the end it paid off. West Ham United have played 71%

:09:56. > :10:04.of long balls. I give it to you that you can copy it and then you go to

:10:05. > :10:07.big Sam and maybe he can get a good interpretation. Everybody going

:10:08. > :10:15.about right way to play football and it is a load BLEEP. It's a shame for

:10:16. > :10:20.the players that everybody thinks it's that style of play that we do,

:10:21. > :10:24.and we don't. We played very good football. He is clear on what he

:10:25. > :10:30.wants and expects. Layers either love him or hate him, no in between.

:10:31. > :10:39.If he doesn't want you around, he will make your life uncomfortable.

:10:40. > :10:46.The West Ham way, that was the thing. That is sometimes levelled at

:10:47. > :10:50.you. I still don't quite know not -- I still don't quite know what that

:10:51. > :10:59.is. Playing attractive football and winning, but the winning is the

:11:00. > :11:06.first part. Big Sam! Give the man the credit he deserves! Sam

:11:07. > :11:08.Allardyce! Cheers, mate. Lets see how long the adulation lasts.

:11:09. > :11:11.The Women's NBA has fined three teams and their players for wearing

:11:12. > :11:12.these black warm-up T-shirts commemorating the recent

:11:13. > :11:19.New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury and Indiana Fever were forced to pay

:11:20. > :11:24.$5,000, while their players each received a $500 fine.

:11:25. > :11:27.WNBA rules state that uniforms can't be altered in any way.

:11:28. > :11:30.In response to the fine, Phoenix Mercury forward Mistie Bass

:11:31. > :11:34.tweeted this: "Don't say we have a voice and then fine us

:11:35. > :12:00.Now, is this the most ridiculous own goal you've ever seen?

:12:01. > :12:03.It was a night to forget for goalkeeper Sammy Ndjock,

:12:04. > :12:05.who conceded the howler in a Minnesota United

:12:06. > :12:16.Bournemouth went on to win the match 4-0.

:12:17. > :12:22.Stay with us. Still to come, a solar powered drone that could stay in the

:12:23. > :12:25.air for months. We will tell you more about the latest project by

:12:26. > :12:31.social media giants Facebook. New guidance on vitamin D says

:12:32. > :12:34.everyone should consider taking Public Health England says there's

:12:35. > :12:38.not enough sunlight between October and March and the nutrient is vital

:12:39. > :12:41.for the health of bones, This is what vitamin D

:12:42. > :12:47.efficiency can look like, the normally strong leg bones have

:12:48. > :12:50.become soft and bowed under In children, it is often the result

:12:51. > :12:57.of the condition rickets. At Manchester Royal Infirmary,

:12:58. > :13:00.doctors say the health community has finally woken up to

:13:01. > :13:02.the significant problems caused We see people with problems

:13:03. > :13:07.with vitamin D at all ages One of the problems of diagnosing

:13:08. > :13:15.vitamin D deficiency in general is that the symptoms can be very

:13:16. > :13:24.non-specific so people can just have pain, muscle weakness, if it gets

:13:25. > :13:36.very bad the bones can break. Food like oily fish,

:13:37. > :13:39.eggs and some cereals contain vitamin D but experts say it's hard

:13:40. > :13:45.to get enough food diet alone. Our main source comes from the sun

:13:46. > :13:48.on our skin but it doesn't The advice from today is that

:13:49. > :13:57.all adults in the UK should have a vitamin D pill once a day

:13:58. > :14:00.in the autumn and winter and children under the age of four

:14:01. > :14:03.should have won every Scotland is reassessing

:14:04. > :14:05.whether a young babies The advice is that we should be

:14:06. > :14:11.taking supplements particularly in the winter months and children

:14:12. > :14:14.throughout the year, It's certainly reasonable,

:14:15. > :14:26.the evidence is there, worldwide evidence pored

:14:27. > :14:28.through very carefully It seems a bit of an imposition

:14:29. > :14:32.for everyone to take I think you could get

:14:33. > :14:38.into the routine of giving them one a day, maybe miss a day or two,

:14:39. > :14:42.but if you miss it on a couple of days it probably

:14:43. > :14:44.doesn't matter too much. There is also the issue

:14:45. > :14:47.of the cost of these things. NHS England says Vitamin D pills

:14:48. > :14:54.are available free of charge for low income families and in addition

:14:55. > :14:57.to supplements experts say exercise This is Outside Source live

:14:58. > :15:13.from the BBC newsroom. Brazilian police have arrested ten

:15:14. > :15:18.people who they say were planning on carrying out acts of terrorism

:15:19. > :15:23.during the Games. If you're outside of the UK,

:15:24. > :15:28.it's World News America next. They're looking ahead

:15:29. > :15:32.to Donald Trumps headline speech at the Republican National Convention,

:15:33. > :15:36.which begins in a few hours' time. And next in the UK,

:15:37. > :15:38.Fergal Keane reports from Turkey He's been getting reaction

:15:39. > :15:41.to President Erdogan's announcement that a state of emergency

:15:42. > :15:50.has been imposed. The annual Pride March

:15:51. > :15:52.in Jerusalem is taking place. It's always been a controversial

:15:53. > :15:55.event, celebrating the gay community in a holy city with a predominately

:15:56. > :15:58.conservative religious population. One of the event's organisers,

:15:59. > :16:02.Tom Canning, has been Last year of 2015 was supposed to be

:16:03. > :16:10.just, like, any other It was the 14th Pride March

:16:11. > :16:15.we were doing in Jerusalem. The only day of the year really

:16:16. > :16:19.when the LGBT community in Jerusalem I heard screams and I saw

:16:20. > :16:29.Yishai Schlissel, an ultraorthodox Jew from Jerusalem, who came running

:16:30. > :16:35.at me and everyone around me. I saw my friends and community

:16:36. > :16:41.members laying on the ground What happened is that our bubble

:16:42. > :16:50.of security was burst last year and we thought we had gone past this

:16:51. > :16:54.point in our society where people They can act violently

:16:55. > :17:00.against LGBT people. I think we need to have

:17:01. > :17:06.Pride marches wherever When we come and we march

:17:07. > :17:12.in Jerusalem at the Jerusalem Pride March, we are coming

:17:13. > :17:20.out against homophobia. We're not coming out against

:17:21. > :17:22.religion or anyone's beliefs. It's about time we realised that

:17:23. > :17:25.just because someone is religious doesn't mean that's an excuse

:17:26. > :17:28.for him to be homophobic. And it creates a very strong message

:17:29. > :17:32.for international religions that we can have a strong

:17:33. > :17:36.and vibrant community also in one of the most holy

:17:37. > :17:40.cities in the world. I would compare it to having an LGBT

:17:41. > :17:46.community within the Vatican. I'm not going to

:17:47. > :17:51.sugarcoat it, you know? Sometimes it's scary,

:17:52. > :17:54.sometimes I find myself looking over my shoulder

:17:55. > :17:56.to see who's coming. This year's parade, we are also

:17:57. > :18:00.entering it with much more fear and concern that someone might

:18:01. > :18:05.want to copy what happened last year She was a social media star

:18:06. > :18:16.in Pakistan, controversial because she posted sometimes

:18:17. > :18:17.suggestive or outspoken But she was killed by her own

:18:18. > :18:23.brother because, he said, Well, the BBC Urdu service has

:18:24. > :18:29.spoken to her mother. We'll play you that interview

:18:30. > :18:32.in a moment, but first here is Qandeel speaking

:18:33. > :18:49.to the BBC earlier this year. Saba Eitizaz from BBC Urdu has

:18:50. > :18:52.spoken to Qandeel's mother. She first asked what happened

:18:53. > :19:12.on the day of the killing. TRANSLATION: My heart didn't suspect

:19:13. > :19:17.my son would do this to my daughter. My husband and I felt deeply asleep.

:19:18. > :19:21.We had drank milk. It had been mixed with sedatives. In the morning, I

:19:22. > :19:27.called her for breakfast. She used to wake up every day on time but she

:19:28. > :19:33.didn't wake up. I went to see what kind of the sleep this was. I

:19:34. > :19:44.thought she was laying there with a white shawl covering her.

:19:45. > :19:52.I removed the shawl and her whole face was covered in bruises. Her

:19:53. > :19:56.tongue was black, her lips were black, I felt I was finished. A

:19:57. > :20:01.neighbour came over and she said, why are you lamenting like this? She

:20:02. > :20:09.saw Qandeel and she also started crying. She said, such cruelty. Who

:20:10. > :20:15.did this? I said, Waseem did this, he was staying over. Who else but

:20:16. > :20:18.him? Setting aside her fame, what was she like as a daughter and a

:20:19. > :20:25.sister and her personal life? TRANSLATION: We were mother and

:20:26. > :20:30.daughter, sharing all our sorrows and secrets. She used to tell me,

:20:31. > :20:38.your daughter is working hard, she'll go far, and are used to say,

:20:39. > :20:47.really, Qandeel? Will -- may God give you success. All those people

:20:48. > :20:51.from our village who said that Qandeel had a bad reputation, she is

:20:52. > :20:59.loose, one day they will find out who Qandeel really was. My time has

:21:00. > :21:05.come. What was her relationship like with her brother, Waseem? What do

:21:06. > :21:10.you think led him to such an extreme step? They always had a trip in

:21:11. > :21:18.their hearts but before they didn't care much, but recently it got

:21:19. > :21:23.worse. -- they always had hatred. People said, stop her with what she

:21:24. > :21:28.is doing. We are a large family and people should make -- people are

:21:29. > :21:33.shaming us. Did you think about the reasons such a thing happened? Any

:21:34. > :21:39.outside influences on what happened? TRANSLATION: There was peace before,

:21:40. > :21:43.but this month, there was such a noise about her, rumours, the wrong

:21:44. > :21:48.pictures, the wrong words were spread. That is why it happened. Her

:21:49. > :21:56.brother lost his mind. All his friends would taunt him. This is

:21:57. > :21:57.your sister. The mother of Qandeel, speaking of her killing at the hands

:21:58. > :21:58.of her brother. Facebook has taken a big step

:21:59. > :22:01.forward with its plans to beam an internet connection to the most

:22:02. > :22:04.remote parts of Africa. The social network giant plans

:22:05. > :22:06.to use a huge solar powered drone And it's just taken to the skies

:22:07. > :22:11.for its first test flight. Here's our technology correspondent

:22:12. > :22:12.Rory Cellan-Jones. In Arizona an extraordinary aircraft

:22:13. > :22:15.is taking to the skies Part of Facebook's mission

:22:16. > :22:19.to connect millions of people The idea is that this solar powered

:22:20. > :22:24.unmanned drone will stay airborne for months,

:22:25. > :22:28.beaming down an Internet connection. This whole project was born

:22:29. > :22:33.in a warehouse in Somerset. Two years ago Facebook bought

:22:34. > :22:36.a small British business Now it has produced the first

:22:37. > :22:42.aircraft for what is Andy Cox, who sold his business

:22:43. > :22:55.to the network is still Eventually we will fly 60 -

:22:56. > :22:58.90,000 feet above traffic, where it is really cold,

:22:59. > :23:01.and we will fly for periods of up We will loiter around a given

:23:02. > :23:04.point, giving Internet Although it's got the wingspan

:23:05. > :23:08.of a Boeing 737 it only weighs about a third as much

:23:09. > :23:11.as a standard family car. It will be some years before this

:23:12. > :23:13.extraordinary aircraft is ready to float for three months

:23:14. > :23:17.above a remote African village In the meantime, others will be

:23:18. > :23:24.trying something similar. Google's Project Loon involves

:23:25. > :23:26.using high altitude balloons to connect people to the Internet

:23:27. > :23:30.in the same remote faces And this kind of initiative isn't

:23:31. > :23:39.without controversy. India rejected a Facebook plan

:23:40. > :23:41.to give citizens free web access via mobile phones,

:23:42. > :23:43.suspicious it was about making More people on the Internet means

:23:44. > :23:49.more people using Facebook. I think it is more key for people

:23:50. > :23:54.to be able to have the opportunity to experience the Internet the way

:23:55. > :23:58.you and I do and to be able to bring education, financial,

:23:59. > :23:59.health and other types of information to people

:24:00. > :24:01.around the world. Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg

:24:02. > :24:08.was on hand to celebrate One day this aircraft

:24:09. > :24:36.could make his company an even more Here is what Rory tweeted. Killing

:24:37. > :24:41.two birds with one stone! Ever the devoted technology correspondent.

:24:42. > :24:45.Our top story, federal lease in Brazil have arrested ten people

:24:46. > :24:49.suspected of preparing possible acts of terrorism during the Rio

:24:50. > :24:53.Olympics, which started just over two weeks ago -- which start in just

:24:54. > :24:59.over two weeks. He suspects, all Brazilian nationals, and it is

:25:00. > :25:01.alleged they expressed support for Islamic State on social media.
