:00:08. > :00:10.Hello, I'm Ros Atkins, this is Outside Source.

:00:11. > :00:16.Let's look through some of the main stories here in the BBC Newsroom.

:00:17. > :00:24.In Iraq there is progress being made as a variety of forces, primarily

:00:25. > :00:29.Iraqi and Kurdish, make progress towards Mosul, trying to take it

:00:30. > :00:33.back from Islamic State. If and when Iraqi forces make inside

:00:34. > :00:45.the city, they could be caught in the crossfire. A day to go before

:00:46. > :00:50.the presidential election. I am also going to play you this report from

:00:51. > :00:54.BBC trending about an unlikely connection made between an Internet

:00:55. > :01:00.broadcaster in California and a teenager in Saudi Arabia. We will

:01:01. > :01:03.also talk about the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, already overbudget, a

:01:04. > :01:22.long way over budget. We will find out what it's doing about that.

:01:23. > :01:26.Let's turn back to the battle for Mosul. John Simpson, BBC world

:01:27. > :01:34.affairs editor says: while most people expect that to

:01:35. > :01:39.happen, the retaking Mosul may only

:01:40. > :01:42.be the start of this. The current coalition fighting

:01:43. > :01:44.IS on the ground consists of Iraqi troops, the Kurdish Peshmerga,

:01:45. > :01:46.as well as both Shia Arguably they fear and dislike each

:01:47. > :01:55.other almost as much And many local Sunnis who live

:01:56. > :02:01.in Mosul resented what they saw as the sectarian policies

:02:02. > :02:09.of the Shia-led central government That's why there's

:02:10. > :02:14.sensitivity about the Shia militia If you look at the flags on this

:02:15. > :02:24.tank, you'll be able to make out He's the grandson of

:02:25. > :02:30.the Prophet Muhammed, It is a Shia symbol

:02:31. > :02:39.that is provocative to Sunnis. Richard Galpin is Irbil,

:02:40. > :02:47.to the east of Mosul. Part of the BBC team covering this

:02:48. > :03:01.from a number of angles. He's been talking to me about what

:03:02. > :03:07.plans may be done to deal with these divisions if and when Mosul Falls.

:03:08. > :03:13.What we understand from the Iraqi authorities as they will not allow

:03:14. > :03:18.the Shi'ite militias to enter the city. They are saying it will only

:03:19. > :03:22.be the elite forces, for example the counterterrorism forces, who will go

:03:23. > :03:28.in and carry out that battle, what we expect to be street by street

:03:29. > :03:32.fighting with Isis Fighters, assuming Isis stand up and fight.

:03:33. > :03:35.They are being very clear about that, saying the Shi'ite militia

:03:36. > :03:40.will not be allowed in. They are saying the same for the Kurdish

:03:41. > :03:45.fighters as well, the Peshmerga, that it won't be their fight. But of

:03:46. > :03:48.course you have to say it is the question of weather the Iraqi

:03:49. > :03:53.military and authorities will be able to prevent the Shi'ite militias

:03:54. > :04:02.from going in, because they are very powerful. It a very, very key issue,

:04:03. > :04:06.because certainly during previous offensives there have been

:04:07. > :04:10.allegations that Shi'ite militias have gone in and carried out

:04:11. > :04:15.atrocities. So this is absolutely essential. Might a successful

:04:16. > :04:27.campaign put questions next to the Iraqi Kurds in a Iraq? That is a key

:04:28. > :04:31.issue because we are seeing the Kurdish fighters, the Peshmerga,

:04:32. > :04:38.moving out from here, pushing across towards Mosul, and as they go, they

:04:39. > :04:44.are gaining territory. There is a real issue about that, will they

:04:45. > :04:48.have more territory and a push for their independence from the rest of

:04:49. > :04:52.Iraq regressed remark there are people who are being very, very

:04:53. > :04:57.pessimistic, saying actually the taking of Mosul could put questions

:04:58. > :05:03.over the whole future of the country. It is massively fragmented

:05:04. > :05:07.already between sunny, Shia and the Kurds. The worry is this offensive

:05:08. > :05:11.will exacerbate all of those tensions. Thanks to Richard for the.

:05:12. > :05:17.Heading into the final presidential debate on Wednesday,

:05:18. > :05:21.polls show Donald Trump now lagging well behind Hillary Clinton.

:05:22. > :05:24.Ten points on the BBC's latest poll of polls.

:05:25. > :05:26.Part of that may be down to the splits he's causing

:05:27. > :05:30.As Aleem Maqbool reports from Wisconsin,

:05:31. > :05:49.In this bitter election season Republicans who turned against their

:05:50. > :05:54.own candidate are feeling the heat. Trump is in Green Bay today... Jerry

:05:55. > :06:00.is suddenly losing fans at a rapid rate and he's getting lots of abuse

:06:01. > :06:03.from fellow Republicans. OK, I'm a conservative talk-show host. Over

:06:04. > :06:09.the years I have become accustomed to vitriol from those with a liberal

:06:10. > :06:14.worldview, they see me as the enemy. I'm not getting that same kind of

:06:15. > :06:17.vitriol, that same type of you're the enemy from Conservative

:06:18. > :06:23.listeners because I won't support Mr Trump. He says he won't vote for the

:06:24. > :06:26.Republican candidate because he is liability and has been worried about

:06:27. > :06:31.allegations of vote rigging and his attitudes towards women, the that

:06:32. > :06:36.are causing huge risk rift in the party. At his rallies the split is

:06:37. > :06:40.obvious, because Donald Trump may be speaking here in Green Bay,

:06:41. > :06:44.Wisconsin today, but no senior Republicans will appear on stage

:06:45. > :06:49.with him. What are the supporters think about that? That's no loss for

:06:50. > :06:53.Trump, we only want the good people, the people that will make America a

:06:54. > :06:56.great again. We don't care if the Republicans to want to vote for him.

:06:57. > :07:00.I don't care about a senior Republican being here, we are here

:07:01. > :07:05.supporting him. That is more important. That's what we're tired.

:07:06. > :07:10.We're tired of power and greed. Weather it's Democrats or

:07:11. > :07:16.Republicans? Absolutely, you've got it, yes. Once they filed in the

:07:17. > :07:24.crowd would disrupt proceedings by chanting slogans against absolute

:07:25. > :07:28.Republicans. The Republican party of Wisconsin... But the man himself

:07:29. > :07:33.still knows how to energise his pace.

:07:34. > :07:39.They even want to try to rig the election at the polling booths...

:07:40. > :07:45.His core supporters still there, but the unease of senior Republicans

:07:46. > :07:52.backing Trump may be one factor leading undecided voters he'd be too

:07:53. > :07:56.great a risk as president. This time tomorrow we'll will be in

:07:57. > :07:59.the last few hours building up to that final debate. You can watch

:08:00. > :08:06.that weather you are inside the UK on the BBC news channel or outside

:08:07. > :08:07.on BBC world News. Now time for the sport.

:08:08. > :08:10.The head of the International Olympic Committee has held

:08:11. > :08:16.This is all to do with 2020 Games - and how they cost of hosting

:08:17. > :08:22.Even with a scaled-down main stadium, the estimated cost

:08:23. > :08:34.That's four times the initial estimate.

:08:35. > :08:37.By comparison, the sport-related costs of this year's Olympics

:08:38. > :08:40.and Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro look likely to come in under

:08:41. > :08:47.Tokyo's governor wants to save money by scrapping three venues -

:08:48. > :08:51.and either moving sports out of the city.

:08:52. > :08:56.The IOC president doesn't think that will be necessary.

:08:57. > :09:06.Here is some of his statement. We can find excellent ways to make

:09:07. > :09:16.the Olympic Games even more feasible, by having achieved already

:09:17. > :09:22.almost $2 billion of savings, and by having a contribution of the IOC of

:09:23. > :09:27.about 1.7 billion US dollars. Therefore I am very happy with this

:09:28. > :09:35.meeting today, because we agreed that we will continue in this way of

:09:36. > :09:43.cooperation, to make the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 the most

:09:44. > :09:51.sustainable and most feasible Games possible. Damian Johnson joins us

:09:52. > :09:54.from the BBC sport Centre. First of all, the question most of our

:09:55. > :09:59.viewers wondering, how is this costing four times what Rio paid?

:10:00. > :10:05.The figures are eye watering. No real explanation has been given. You

:10:06. > :10:09.mentioned that $30 billion figure, that came from an expert panel who

:10:10. > :10:15.reported last month. They suggested drastic cuts to the size and scope

:10:16. > :10:19.of the games in Tokyo in 2020. They propose scrapping three venues and

:10:20. > :10:23.relocating events to outside of the city, some existing facilities. That

:10:24. > :10:28.would represent a real climb down from what Japan promised the Olympic

:10:29. > :10:32.movement. They said all the events would take close very close to the

:10:33. > :10:37.Olympic Village, in most cases within a few miles radius of that

:10:38. > :10:42.village. The IOC president has been in the country this week. He was

:10:43. > :10:45.gently reminding the hosts of their commitments, but also suggesting he

:10:46. > :10:50.is prepared to make some kind of compromise. I think there is an air

:10:51. > :10:53.of compromise very much in the air. Is there a precedent for the

:10:54. > :10:59.Olympics moving certain sport outside of the city or the country?

:11:00. > :11:03.I can't recall events of being moved outside of the country, outside the

:11:04. > :11:07.city is common practice. Remember the London games of 2012, some

:11:08. > :11:10.events took place on the south coast, so it does happen, but it

:11:11. > :11:15.would be a climb-down for the Japanese and a loss of face. A quick

:11:16. > :11:19.update on the football, the Champions League? Real Madrid, the

:11:20. > :11:25.holders, in action today. 5-1 winners over Warsaw. Gareth Bale on

:11:26. > :11:30.the scoresheet. The glamour club of European football. The holders and

:11:31. > :11:34.strongly fancied to be there or thereabouts at the business end of

:11:35. > :11:38.the competition. Leicester City, the English champions never been in the

:11:39. > :11:41.Champions League before, they won again. Their third victory in the

:11:42. > :11:45.Champions League group stages and are eyeing a place in the knockout

:11:46. > :11:51.stages for the first time. They won 1-0 against Copenhagen, finishing

:11:52. > :11:54.the group five points clear of Copenhagen. The fairy tale continues

:11:55. > :12:00.for them. Amazing. Thank you. Leicester mast marching on in Europe

:12:01. > :12:01.for stop you can follow that on the BBC website right now.

:12:02. > :12:03.Baseball's getting to the sharp end of the season.

:12:04. > :12:06.Cleveland Indians are one win away from reaching the World Series -

:12:07. > :12:11.they've won the first three games against the Toronto Blue Jays.

:12:12. > :12:14.They won the last game in Toronto - the same province where the team has

:12:15. > :12:20.been fighting an issue with its logo.

:12:21. > :12:27.If you are a baseball fan you will notice.

:12:28. > :12:31.It's considered an offensive racial caricature by some.

:12:32. > :12:34.An Indigenous activist went to court to bar the use of the logo

:12:35. > :12:38.and name in Ontario, but the case was dismissed.

:12:39. > :12:40.That happened just hours before the Indians won 4-2.

:12:41. > :12:42.They play the Bluejays again in Toronto Wednesday -

:12:43. > :12:51.with a chance to punch their ticket to the World Series.

:12:52. > :12:54.A report now on baseball players in Africa are tying to make it

:12:55. > :12:59.all the way to Major League Baseball in the US.

:13:00. > :13:48.I've been playing baseball since I was seven years old.

:13:49. > :14:38.Go hard, go hard, all the way, you're not running, go.

:14:39. > :14:50.We all wish him well. In a moment a report from BBC trending, looking at

:14:51. > :14:53.the odd relationship or friendship between a very well-known online

:14:54. > :14:57.broadcaster in California and a teenager in Saudi Arabia. The

:14:58. > :15:07.teenager in Saudi Arabia has been getting into trouble.

:15:08. > :15:09.Thousands of people have been in London's Trafalgar Square

:15:10. > :15:11.to celebrate the success of Great Britain's Olympians

:15:12. > :15:15.This is the second day of partying for the athletes, after their parade

:15:16. > :15:16.through the streets of Manchester yesterday.

:15:17. > :15:20.Both teams won more medals at Rio than at the London Games in 2012,

:15:21. > :15:22.finishing second in the medal table at both the Olympics

:15:23. > :15:27.And this evening the athletes met the Queen at a reception

:15:28. > :15:31.Prince Philip and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were among

:15:32. > :15:39.The Duchess told the British equestrians that her

:15:40. > :15:41.daughter Charlotte takes after the Queen,

:15:42. > :15:48.Your Team GB and Paralympics GB athletes...

:15:49. > :15:51.Day two of the nation's thank you to its Olympic and Paralympic

:15:52. > :15:55.athletes started here in Trafalgar Square.

:15:56. > :16:00.I'm not really into sport, but I've been glued to this,

:16:01. > :16:07.If Brazil has samba, London has the Queen's Grenadier

:16:08. > :16:14.London in October isn't exactly the hottest spot north of Havana,

:16:15. > :16:16.but the sun made a welcome change from the downpour

:16:17. > :16:21.Consequently, fans and athletes' families

:16:22. > :16:24.were here in their thousands, to greet Britain's stars.

:16:25. > :16:27.They even got to see a re-enactment of a gold

:16:28. > :16:34.For the athletes, though, the pleasure was in seeing

:16:35. > :16:37.the public so inspired by their achievements.

:16:38. > :16:40.I grew up in Penzance in Cornwall, and I was very far away

:16:41. > :16:46.The first Olympic medal I'd seen and held was my own.

:16:47. > :16:51.I do think that there's something really special and unique

:16:52. > :16:55.in being able to see that and being able to be close to it,

:16:56. > :16:59.It ended with a performance by The Vamps and a whole lot

:17:00. > :17:06.Well, all 214 medallists will now swap out of their tracksuits

:17:07. > :17:08.and into their gladrags, because they have a date

:17:09. > :17:12.at the Palace just down the road, but one of them is ready to break

:17:13. > :17:18.I really want a selfie with them but not sure how I'm

:17:19. > :17:23.A selfie might be a stretch too far, but at least they all stuck

:17:24. > :17:26.to the dress code, as they arrived here tonight to receive a formal

:17:27. > :17:44.This is Outside Source live from the BBC newsroom.

:17:45. > :17:53.It comes from Iraq where government troops and the allies are continuing

:17:54. > :17:56.to push towards Mosul in the north of Iraq, to take the country back

:17:57. > :17:58.from Islamic State. Let me bring you what's coming up

:17:59. > :18:01.after, if you're outside of the UK,

:18:02. > :18:04.it's World News America next. It's exactly three weeks

:18:05. > :18:05.until election day. Katty Kay will have all

:18:06. > :18:08.the latest from the US Here in the UK, the

:18:09. > :18:14.News at Ten is next. the UK Government will announce next

:18:15. > :18:22.week weather it backs expanding Heathrow or Gatwick airports. This

:18:23. > :18:23.should end decades of the delay on the decision.

:18:24. > :18:31.Here's a story we've covered regularly on Outside Source.

:18:32. > :18:36.It's about the treatment of refugees in Australia.

:18:37. > :18:41.When asylum seekers try to reach Australia by boat they are sent

:18:42. > :18:44.to the island nation of Nauru and Papua New Guinea's Manis Island.

:18:45. > :18:50.Amnesty International says that people are being driven to suicide

:18:51. > :18:52.and that the poor conditions in the camps are deliberately used

:18:53. > :19:09.We believe that this policy amounts to torture. We made this conclusion

:19:10. > :19:14.based on the systematic nature of the harm that is being caused. It's

:19:15. > :19:18.intentional nature and the fact it's being perpetrated with a specific

:19:19. > :19:23.goal that the Australian government is not even trying to hide. The goal

:19:24. > :19:28.is deterrence, the policy of deterrence relies on the idea of

:19:29. > :19:31.causing as much suffering as possible, to ensure that others do

:19:32. > :19:37.not attempt to do what these asylum seekers have tried to do. Such as

:19:38. > :19:42.reaching Australia's shores. Australia's Prime Minister pushed

:19:43. > :19:51.back at this, appearing on morning radio programmes to respond.

:19:52. > :19:55.Well, I reject that claim totally. It is, it is, it is absolutely

:19:56. > :20:02.false. The Australian government's commitment compassion and strong.

:20:03. > :20:05.Here is the latest BBC trending report for you.

:20:06. > :20:07.It's about an unlikely online friendship between a well-known

:20:08. > :20:10.Internet broadcaster in California and a teenager in Saudi Arabia.

:20:11. > :22:22.It is fair to say the Saudi authorities were not impressed.

:22:23. > :22:30.Just before I go, a reminder it is the latest EU summit in Brussels

:22:31. > :22:40.later this week. Our sources will be there. This one advert you might be

:22:41. > :22:45.interested in... The idea is to try and poach business from London to

:22:46. > :22:50.Paris. There is no frog here, but anyway a regional official is saying

:22:51. > :22:55.this is regrettable Brexit is happening, but let's the pragmatic,

:22:56. > :22:57.there might be an opportunity. Thank you for watching, I will be back

:22:58. > :23:11.tomorrow, bye-bye. I'm Damian Johnson with the main

:23:12. > :23:12.sports News. Leicester City are a step closer to
