:00:00. > 3:59:59how it is looking at the moment across Europe. More details on the

:00:00. > :00:18.UK later. Hello, I'm Nuala McGovern,

:00:19. > :00:20.this is Outside Source. Both Donald Trump and Hillary

:00:21. > :00:24.Clinton hit swing states, we'll look why these key

:00:25. > :00:31.battlegrounds matter so much. We will also tend to ride the race

:00:32. > :00:35.for the White House has security implications for Japan.

:00:36. > :00:45.We will have more on those, one of India's biggest TV stars, he

:00:46. > :00:48.announced his fans by announcing his resignation, we have more on the

:00:49. > :00:55.shock departure of Arnab Goswami. And we have a story about a German

:00:56. > :01:06.footballer about to make his debut in the world of wrestling.

:01:07. > :01:12.Now to the United States and the election, the candidates are

:01:13. > :01:20.focusing on the all-important swing states. Donald Trump is in Florida.

:01:21. > :01:27.Hillary Clinton has been in two states, Arizona and Nevada. The

:01:28. > :01:31.whole way across. The reason the swing states are so important, is

:01:32. > :01:37.because of how the electoral college system is set up. We had a question

:01:38. > :01:42.from a viewer asking to explain it. Christian Fraser will do that. The

:01:43. > :01:46.winner is not always the candidate with the biggest share of the

:01:47. > :01:51.national vote, think of this not just as one election, but 51 many

:01:52. > :01:55.elections. Each state is allocated a fixed number of state electors

:01:56. > :02:03.determined by the size of the population. Altogether there are 538

:02:04. > :02:08.electoral college votes, 270 will get you across the winning line.

:02:09. > :02:14.This is how it looked in 2012 when Barack Obama was re-elected. The

:02:15. > :02:19.Democrat blue is in the corners in the very big states, but now it is

:02:20. > :02:26.up for grabs again. The states with the biggest populations are crucial.

:02:27. > :02:32.The largest, California. If Clinton was to win California with 50% of

:02:33. > :02:37.the vote plus one, she takes all 55 votes and that help many smaller

:02:38. > :02:44.states Donald Trump has to win to equal that 55, seven altogether. It

:02:45. > :02:47.is possible to secure the most votes nationwide, the popular vote, and

:02:48. > :02:52.still lose, and that is what happened in 2000. Al Gore got more

:02:53. > :02:58.votes than George W Bush but he did not take the White House. We think

:02:59. > :03:05.there are up to 13 battle ground states, that could go is that

:03:06. > :03:10.Republican or Democrat. Hopefully that answers your question. This

:03:11. > :03:15.election is important not only in the United States, although so many

:03:16. > :03:16.eyes have been watching this. It has been carefully watched all across

:03:17. > :03:33.the globe. Japan is talking about this a lot.

:03:34. > :03:38.We have this report now. A fighter jet from the US Air Force roaring

:03:39. > :03:45.into the sky above the Japanese island. Over 70 years this little

:03:46. > :03:55.island in the far south of Japan has been America's unsinkable aircraft

:03:56. > :04:01.carrier in Asia. I'm now standing on the South West Coast and beside me

:04:02. > :04:13.is the East China Sea, if you take the drone up, off to the west is the

:04:14. > :04:17.giant Kadena airbase, the largest US Air Force facility in the western

:04:18. > :04:24.Pacific. If we turned the drone to the North, on top of that hill is a

:04:25. > :04:30.Marine base, the US presence here is enormous. And as Donald Trump likes

:04:31. > :04:37.to remind us, it is also extremely expensive. There are nearly 50,000

:04:38. > :04:43.US personnel based in Japan and another 25,000 Japanese working on

:04:44. > :04:46.these American bases. In the first presidential debate Donald Trump

:04:47. > :04:50.said they should be paying us because we are providing tremendous

:04:51. > :04:58.service. We are losing a fortune. Is that true? TRANSLATION:

:04:59. > :05:06.This man is a chair of the forces Labour union, does he think his

:05:07. > :05:16.members are getting a free ride on the US taxpayer? TRANSLATION: Donald

:05:17. > :05:21.Trump has no clue. Japan also pays the salaries of all the Japanese

:05:22. > :05:28.working on US bases. It even pays the electricity and water bills.

:05:29. > :05:33.Japan pays around 2 billion US dollars a year towards the cost of

:05:34. > :05:39.keeping American forces here. A lot of them here want that to stop.

:05:40. > :05:46.These protesters are blocking a truck from getting to a construction

:05:47. > :05:50.site for a new US base. They say the burden of hosting so many US troops

:05:51. > :05:59.is just too high. Does that mean they support Donald Trump? Mr Donald

:06:00. > :06:04.Trump makes many radical comments and talks about removing the US

:06:05. > :06:08.bases from here, so I'm a bit hopeful, but at the same time I'm

:06:09. > :06:14.worried he will bring trouble if he became the US president. I guess it

:06:15. > :06:21.is a good thing, when you listen to what he says, I have big questions

:06:22. > :06:24.about him, I worry he might violate human rights and I worry if he is

:06:25. > :06:29.going to make the right decision as a human being. These people might

:06:30. > :06:34.want the Americans to go, but that doesn't mean they want Donald to be

:06:35. > :06:41.president. If Japan had a vote it would go to Hillary Clinton -- they

:06:42. > :06:48.want Donald Trump to be president. STUDIO: Another perspective on the

:06:49. > :06:54.American election, and now we can turn to sport. The final game of the

:06:55. > :06:59.World Series between Cleveland and Chicago is a few hours away. Victory

:07:00. > :07:03.means more for these teams than most, Chicago have not won a

:07:04. > :07:11.champion ship in 108 years, Cleveland, just 68 years. --

:07:12. > :07:17.championship. We can have a chat about this game. It has gone to the

:07:18. > :07:25.wire, the seventh game. What should people be watching out for tonight?

:07:26. > :07:29.It has been a crazy series, the Cubs were 3-1 down. They have not won in

:07:30. > :07:38.over a century, their drought will come to an end or Cleveland's will,

:07:39. > :07:47.as well. They go to Game seven after the Cubs beat the Indians 9-3 in

:07:48. > :07:52.game six. Just a few days ago, the Cubs were 3-1 down in the best-of-7,

:07:53. > :08:00.but by now claiming of their first championship in 108 years. -- they

:08:01. > :08:04.are now close to claiming. Alexander hit the lie

:08:05. > :08:15.Alexander Rusev hit a grand slam, that is a home run with all three

:08:16. > :08:18.bases loaded -- Alexander Russell. The Cubs are hoping to do what only

:08:19. > :08:25.five teams have done before then, the last time in 1985, both teams

:08:26. > :08:30.are more than desperate for the victory after the long droughts you

:08:31. > :08:34.mentioned. Maybe the Indians can recover, to win their first title

:08:35. > :08:42.since 1948, they are at home again on Wednesday night, it is possible.

:08:43. > :08:46.Who are the favourites? There can't be any favourites in the World

:08:47. > :08:53.Series, but Chicago Cubs record in the regular season was immense so

:08:54. > :08:56.maybe if you are going for a side maybe it would be them, but they are

:08:57. > :09:05.away from home. Very diplomatic answer. Thanks for joining us. And

:09:06. > :09:09.now to a professional footballer who is changing to a professional

:09:10. > :09:15.wrestler. Not a traditional transition, but that is what Tim

:09:16. > :09:19.Visa is doing. He played in goal for Germany and Werder Bremen. He has

:09:20. > :09:23.turned his back on football to become a professional WWE wrestler

:09:24. > :10:19.and he will make his debut on Thursday.

:10:20. > :10:28.And now boxing, Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko have been cleared

:10:29. > :10:33.to fight for the vacant WBA heavyweight title. The bout is

:10:34. > :10:39.likely to be scheduled for early next year. This is what Anthony

:10:40. > :10:43.Joshua's promoter has to say about it, he says it has been an arduous

:10:44. > :10:51.way to gain official approval but that they are delighted to receive

:10:52. > :10:54.the news. The title was left vacant by Tyson Fury, who stepped away from

:10:55. > :11:03.the sport after admitting he took cocaine to deal with depression.

:11:04. > :11:12.With that, you can find out more on the BBC news app and also at the BBC

:11:13. > :11:18.News website. And now back to the US election. The story that many people

:11:19. > :11:23.are talking about. We spoke about swing states, the battle ground

:11:24. > :11:33.states, I want to talk about Nevada. Not a large population. It has a

:11:34. > :11:39.electoral votes and that is what the politicians are after. The polls say

:11:40. > :11:47.it is very tight at the moment. These are the figures. If we take a

:11:48. > :11:56.look at some of the specifics coming in, you really see that the

:11:57. > :12:01.percentage of error is so small that they are so close wherever you look.

:12:02. > :12:09.We thought it would be interesting to go to Nevada and speak to one of

:12:10. > :12:14.the people who is working on it. I met her when I was in Las Vegas the

:12:15. > :12:21.other week. Good to have you with us. Good to be here. It looks like a

:12:22. > :12:26.throw up when it comes to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Tell me

:12:27. > :12:34.about what listeners to the public radio station that you run are

:12:35. > :12:39.telling you. It looks like a toss-up, but there are many people

:12:40. > :12:43.who are early voting. We have had two weeks and many more Democrats

:12:44. > :12:53.are showing up than Republicans, especially here. Nevada is divided.

:12:54. > :12:56.Here in Clark County we are way ahead of 2012 numbers in terms of

:12:57. > :13:10.Democrat numbers showing up at the polls. There is the his panicked --

:13:11. > :13:20.the Hispanic population and they are trying to get out a lot of Hispanic

:13:21. > :13:25.people out to the polls. What is it like to be courted by the

:13:26. > :13:32.candidates? Some states don't even get a look in. Six votes, but only

:13:33. > :13:40.seven states which are so-called swing states and we are one of them.

:13:41. > :13:42.We have perpetually being the belle of the ball, we are a purple state.

:13:43. > :13:58.Some people think that some people are Republican and some

:13:59. > :14:01.Democrat. We have to talk about the Senate, we have Senate campaigns

:14:02. > :14:07.which are neck and neck, we are talking about control of the Senate

:14:08. > :14:12.and that can make and break a president and we can make and break

:14:13. > :14:20.that in Nevada. When you have your ballot, each candidate, you have a

:14:21. > :14:24.third box, neither of the above. That will get a lot of votes, there

:14:25. > :14:29.are people who are so disgusted with both of these candidates or they are

:14:30. > :14:34.conservative but they can't vote for Donald Trump or they are liberal but

:14:35. > :14:39.they think Hillary Clinton is too much in the middle, and they will

:14:40. > :14:44.vote for Nader. It is an option and it usually gets a loss of votes here

:14:45. > :14:50.-- and they will vote for neither. Thanks for joining us. Coming up,

:14:51. > :14:55.one of India's biggest TV stars has surprised his fans by announcing his

:14:56. > :15:04.resignation. We have more on the shock departure of Arnab Goswami.

:15:05. > :15:13.Present conditions in England and Wales, are a bloodbath -- risen

:15:14. > :15:21.conditions. The government is set to unveil its plans to tackle Buydens

:15:22. > :15:23.and sewer sides in UK jails -- set to unveil its plans to tackle

:15:24. > :15:42.violence and suicides in UK jails. The old Conservative

:15:43. > :15:45.mantra repeated a few But in some jails, this

:15:46. > :15:49.is Wandsworth, south London, earlier this year, the government

:15:50. > :15:51.is facing an explosive combination of staff shortages,

:15:52. > :15:53.violence and drug abuse. And some inmates are turning

:15:54. > :15:55.to the latest technology, using The basket attached to this

:15:56. > :15:59.was carrying a consignment of the synthetic drug spice

:16:00. > :16:01.and mobile phones. The Prison Officers Association says

:16:02. > :16:04.the situation is at crisis point. Today they were set to take part

:16:05. > :16:07.in an unofficial walk-out. It was called off after

:16:08. > :16:09.the Justice Secretary agreed to an urgent meeting with POA

:16:10. > :16:11.leaders this afternoon. Prisons are a bloodbath

:16:12. > :16:19.at the moment, they are causing mass hysteria for staff and prisoners,

:16:20. > :16:21.everyone is in a really bad way. Prisons are on their knees

:16:22. > :16:24.and we hope the Justice Secretary can give some positive

:16:25. > :16:28.news for our members Today the BBC obtained a letter

:16:29. > :16:32.from an inmate at Pentonville where a prisoner was stabbed

:16:33. > :17:07.to death two weeks ago. "Current levels of prison

:17:08. > :17:10.violence, drug taking The words of David Cameron

:17:11. > :17:16.nearly one year ago. While the political front line has

:17:17. > :17:19.changed in the last 12 months, those at the sharp end in the present

:17:20. > :17:22.service have watched and experienced The latest figures show

:17:23. > :17:26.that over the past year, there were 107

:17:27. > :17:47.self-inflicted deaths. Our lead story, Donald Trump and

:17:48. > :17:52.Hillary Clinton are campaigning in key swing states as the polls narrow

:17:53. > :17:55.in the race for the White House. Where you are watching depends what

:17:56. > :18:01.you will see next. If you are watching internationally you will

:18:02. > :18:04.have World News America. We have a special report on how voters in five

:18:05. > :18:12.states will also decide whether or not to legalise the recreational use

:18:13. > :18:15.of marijuana. If you are in the UK, there will be more on why the

:18:16. > :18:18.British Prime Minister is getting involved in a row over whether

:18:19. > :18:31.England and Scotland footballer 's can wear poppies in their World Cup

:18:32. > :18:32.qualifying match. Now we can go to a new report which has come out into

:18:33. > :18:45.the missing flight MH370. A new report into missing flight

:18:46. > :18:48.MH370 says the plane likely made an uncontrolled descent

:18:49. > :18:50.into the Indian Ocean. It places doubt on the theory that

:18:51. > :18:52.someone controlled the plane Australian officials say satellite

:18:53. > :18:56.data and analysis of two recovered wing flaps show the plane

:18:57. > :18:59.was in a "high and increasing rate The plane took off from

:19:00. > :19:02.Kuala Lumpur on the 8th It was headed for Beijing,

:19:03. > :19:09.but ended up crashing into the Indian Ocean off

:19:10. > :19:16.Australia's west coast. This is the 120,000 square

:19:17. > :19:22.kilometres area being searched. Just 10,000 square kilometres remain

:19:23. > :19:32.in their search. It is frustrating for everyone

:19:33. > :19:36.involved and have not found any aircraft, especially for the

:19:37. > :19:40.families of the passengers and crew -- to have not found any aircraft.

:19:41. > :19:45.We are continuing to work our way through the remaining 10,000 square

:19:46. > :19:50.kilometres and we look forward to discussions this week in terms of

:19:51. > :19:55.getting the experts from around the world to exchange their ideas, to

:19:56. > :20:00.re-examine evidence. Everyone involved is trying to keep hopeful

:20:01. > :20:07.and keep their spirits up about the prospects of locating MH370. And now

:20:08. > :20:11.to India. One of India's most controversial

:20:12. > :20:13.and recognisable TV anchors, Arnab Goswami, has announced

:20:14. > :20:15.he is quitting his job His hard hitting interview style

:20:16. > :20:19.won him many fans - but to others, he was considered

:20:20. > :20:23.offensive and over the top. Either way - he was a staple

:20:24. > :20:26.of evening TV viewing Rahul Joglekar from the BBC

:20:27. > :20:29.Asian Network began his career 10 years ago in Mumbai,

:20:30. > :20:31.working for Arnab Goswami. He explained what made Goswami

:20:32. > :20:39.so unique on Indian television. Arnab Goswami in many ways is known

:20:40. > :20:43.as one of the most bombastic, In many ways he redefined how TV

:20:44. > :20:49.news is done in India. Before Arnab Goswami it was pretty

:20:50. > :20:53.deferential and news anchors But his style is

:20:54. > :21:03.completely different. The screen is full of talking heads

:21:04. > :21:06.talking over each other, over graphics, with many animated

:21:07. > :21:08.questions being asked. In many ways he is one

:21:09. > :21:10.of the hardest hitting news anchors, raising a lot

:21:11. > :21:14.of questions around corruption. His critics have often attacked him,

:21:15. > :21:17.saying he has made the news a very tabloid version

:21:18. > :21:19.of the news, But actually he is pretty

:21:20. > :21:21.popular in India. Whenever there is a big corruption

:21:22. > :21:28.scandal, there is always a committee which is set up and many people feel

:21:29. > :21:31.as if politicians get off Here you have at 9pm every night

:21:32. > :21:38.when you switch on the television, Arnab Goswami live on air,

:21:39. > :21:40.asking politicians the really tough questions that nobody else

:21:41. > :21:49.has the guts to ask. And these other eight

:21:50. > :21:51.boxes of guests asking You worked with him 10-years ago,

:21:52. > :21:57.what was that like? When I look back, working

:21:58. > :22:01.in the Indian news media, in many ways it is like being

:22:02. > :22:12.transported inside a beehive. Lots of frenzied journalists running

:22:13. > :22:15.around, trying to beat each other to get the exclusive,

:22:16. > :22:21.on breaking news, But remember, this is a country that

:22:22. > :22:28.had state-controlled The only thing we watched on Indian

:22:29. > :22:31.television was basically what You can imagine the competition

:22:32. > :22:37.there is between these channels and how they try to break the news

:22:38. > :22:52.before each other. This is a tweet from BBC business.

:22:53. > :22:56.Lots of Indians wondering what might happen. We are back again tomorrow.

:22:57. > :23:15.Goodbye. Now for a round-up of the sport.

:23:16. > :23:16.Another busy night of Champions League
