:00:52. > :00:57.I can recommend it. This is rock, paper,

:02:21. > :02:26.Philadelphia, I went to school in Philadelphia. It is a very special
:02:27. > :02:32.place in our nation's history. It's the place where we launched our
:02:33. > :02:36.American independence. The state of Pennsylvania is very special to me
:02:37. > :02:40.for lots of reasons, especially from a couple of months ago, remember?
:02:41. > :02:46.APPLAUSE Pennsylvania cannot be won,
:02:47. > :02:52.remember? Pennsylvania cannot be won. Right, Congressman? There is no
:02:53. > :02:58.path to victory for Trump in Pennsylvania. Except we won. Now, it
:02:59. > :03:05.has been a long time since you guys did this, but it was just a great
:03:06. > :03:08.victory, it was a great evening, I will tell you, but it sort of
:03:09. > :03:16.started in Pennsylvania. They all said that Pennsylvania was the bride
:03:17. > :03:18.that got away, that it was the state that everybody from the Republican
:03:19. > :03:24.party that ran in Pennsylvania for 38 years thought that they won,
:03:25. > :03:29.except they never won, and I thought that I won, to, but I was afraid to
:03:30. > :03:34.say it, Mitch, because it just seemed it wasn't working out, so I
:03:35. > :03:38.just said, I think we did great, but let's see what happens. And good
:03:39. > :03:46.things happened. So we love this state and we will see it many times
:03:47. > :03:51.again. Now is the dawn of a new era where the people are in charge of
:03:52. > :03:58.their own destiny. I want to thank Majority Leader McConnell, great
:03:59. > :04:04.guy. And speaker Paul Ryan, very, very special, and he is writing his
:04:05. > :04:09.heart out, right? And we are actually going to sign their stuff
:04:10. > :04:10.that you are writing, you are not wasting your time!
:04:11. > :04:12.APPLAUSE He would write and he would send it
:04:13. > :04:17.up and nothing would happen, but now up and nothing would happen, but now
:04:18. > :04:22.it is going to happen. For their leadership and inviting me here
:04:23. > :04:30.today, thank you very much. And thank you, leader McCarthy,
:04:31. > :04:34.Congressman's Gillies, Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rogers and
:04:35. > :04:42.congressmen necessary or leadership as well. It has been terrific. This
:04:43. > :04:47.Congress is going to be the busiest Congress we have had in decades.
:04:48. > :04:56.Maybe ever. Maybe ever. Think of that. And think of everything we can
:04:57. > :05:02.achieve. And remember who we must achieve it for. We are here now
:05:03. > :05:07.because tens of millions of Americans have placed their hopes in
:05:08. > :05:08.us to transfer power from Washington, DC and give it back to
:05:09. > :05:16.the people. APPLAUSE
:05:17. > :05:26.So important. Now we have to deliver. Enough all talk, no action.
:05:27. > :05:31.We have to deliver. This is our chance to achieve great and lasting
:05:32. > :05:37.change for our beloved nation. Since taking office, I have taken major
:05:38. > :05:44.contractual steps to restore the rule of law and to return power to
:05:45. > :05:51.everyday Americans. APPLAUSE
:05:52. > :05:54.And even though it's only a few days, we have done it in record
:05:55. > :06:07.numbers. We've issued executive orders to build the Keystone and
:06:08. > :06:11.Dakota pipelines, and issued a new requirement for American pipelines
:06:12. > :06:16.to be made with American steel and fabricated in the United States.
:06:17. > :06:20.APPLAUSE And I was sitting at my desk, and
:06:21. > :06:25.I'm getting ready to sign Keystone and Dakota, and I say, where is the
:06:26. > :06:29.pipe coming from, and I won't tell you where, but you wouldn't be
:06:30. > :06:32.happy. And I said why do we build pipelines and we are not using pipe
:06:33. > :06:39.that is made in our country? Let's put that little clause in, one
:06:40. > :06:43.sentence, but that will attract a lot of people, and we will make that
:06:44. > :06:49.pipe right here in America, OK? APPLAUSE
:06:50. > :06:53.If people want to build pipelines on our land, we want the pipe to be
:06:54. > :06:58.manufactured, and not only that, manufactured here but you will see a
:06:59. > :07:04.level of quality that you are not going to see when they bring pipe
:07:05. > :07:09.from far distances, have to bring it in small chunks and then fabricate
:07:10. > :07:13.can do much better than that, and we can do much better than that, and we
:07:14. > :07:18.are going to do it much better, and it is going to end up costing less
:07:19. > :07:21.money, believe me. We have reinstated the Mexico City policy, a
:07:22. > :07:42.long-standing policy... APPLAUSE
:07:43. > :07:57.And by the way, on Friday, a lot of people are going to be showing up to
:07:58. > :08:00.Washington, right, Mike? A lot of people. The press never gives them
:08:01. > :08:03.the credit that they deserve. They will have 300, 400, 500, 600,000
:08:04. > :08:07.people, you won't even read about it. When other people show up, you
:08:08. > :08:09.read big-time about it, right? So it's not fair, but nothing fair
:08:10. > :08:13.about the media. LAUGHTER
:08:14. > :08:21.Nothing. APPLAUSE
:08:22. > :08:28.A long-standing policy to make sure that taxpayer dollars do not fund
:08:29. > :08:32.abortion services overseas. We have issued executive orders to remove
:08:33. > :08:40.wasteful regulations that slowdown, as and delay infrastructure, which
:08:41. > :08:44.we desperately need. The very beginning of a massive effort to
:08:45. > :08:48.reduce crushing regulations on our economy, and we are going to reduce
:08:49. > :08:54.regulations big-time. APPLAUSE
:08:55. > :08:58.We have also withdrawn from the transpacific partnership, paving the
:08:59. > :09:02.way for a new one-on-one trade deals that protect and defend the American
:09:03. > :09:06.worker, and believe me, we are going to have a lot of trade deals...
:09:07. > :09:11.Mitch, don't worry about it. Just give me a full-time. But they will
:09:12. > :09:21.be one-on-one, they would be a whole baker match pot -- they won't be a
:09:22. > :09:30.whole big mash pot, and if that country doesn't deal with us fairly,
:09:31. > :09:36.they will get a 30 day notice to quit. We will have very strong
:09:37. > :09:40.controls over monetary manipulation and devaluation, which they didn't
:09:41. > :09:45.having TPP, so this will be so much better, and we are already on it. I
:09:46. > :09:49.would like to have my commerce secretary Wilber approved, because I
:09:50. > :09:55.hear he did fantastically well, but they are not quick with the pen on
:09:56. > :09:59.signing these people, we would like to have him as soon as possible and
:10:00. > :10:03.Mitch says it will be done, and it will be. They could move fast on the
:10:04. > :10:08.other side, I will say that. They could move faster.
:10:09. > :10:12.APPLAUSE I am meeting with the Prime Minister
:10:13. > :10:19.tomorrow, as you know. Of Great Britain. I am meeting with her
:10:20. > :10:22.tomorrow. I don't have my, is secretary, and they want to talk
:10:23. > :10:29.trade, so I will have to handle it myself. Which is OK.
:10:30. > :10:33.LAUGHTER We have put in place the first steps
:10:34. > :10:37.in our immigration plan ordering the immediate construction of the border
:10:38. > :10:42.wall, putting an end to catch and release, expediting the removal of
:10:43. > :10:49.criminal... This is so important to me. From the first day I have said
:10:50. > :10:55.it. The immediate removal of criminal aliens. They are going to
:10:56. > :10:59.be gone, fast. And finally, at long last, cracking down on Sanctuary
:11:00. > :11:09.cities. CHEERING
:11:10. > :11:14.It's time to restore the civil rights of Americans to protect their
:11:15. > :11:20.jobs, their hopes and their dreams for a much better future. Congress
:11:21. > :11:24.passed these laws to serve our citizens, and it's about time those
:11:25. > :11:28.laws were properly enforced. They are not enforced.
:11:29. > :11:34.APPLAUSE The hour of justice for the American
:11:35. > :11:41.worker has arrived. Border security is a serious, serious national issue
:11:42. > :11:45.and problem. A lack of security poses a substantial threat to the
:11:46. > :11:51.sovereignty and safety of the United States of America and its citizens.
:11:52. > :11:59.Most illegal immigration is coming from our southern border. I've said
:12:00. > :12:03.many times that the American people will not pay for the wall. And I've
:12:04. > :12:11.made that clear to the government of Mexico. Nafta has been a terrible
:12:12. > :12:21.deal, a total disaster for the United States from its inception,
:12:22. > :12:25.costing us as much as $60 billion a year with Mexico alone in trade
:12:26. > :12:31.deficits. Who negotiates these deals? Not to mention millions of
:12:32. > :12:37.jobs and thousands and thousands of factories and plants closing down
:12:38. > :12:43.all over our country. On top of that the trillions of dollars the US
:12:44. > :12:49.taxpayers have spent to pay the cost of illegal immigration. Much of it
:12:50. > :12:53.has then been sent back, and much of it goes back to other countries, and
:12:54. > :12:58.oftentimes because they don't respect us, the other countries will
:12:59. > :13:05.not accept the criminals that we send back to them that are illegally
:13:06. > :13:09.in our country. I promise you they will start accepting them again.
:13:10. > :13:14.Quickly. We are not going to have them any longer. I will not allow
:13:15. > :13:20.the taxpayers or the citizens of the United States to pay the cost of
:13:21. > :13:23.this defective transaction Nafta, one that should have been
:13:24. > :13:30.renegotiated many years ago, except that the politicians were too
:13:31. > :13:37.preoccupied to do so. Now, these people are not in that category, you
:13:38. > :13:41.understand that this is different. To that end, the president of Mexico
:13:42. > :13:47.and myself have agreed to cancel our planned meeting scheduled for next
:13:48. > :13:54.week. Unless Mexico is going to treat the United States fairly, with
:13:55. > :14:00.respect, such a meeting would be fruitless, and I want to go a
:14:01. > :14:05.different route. We have no choice. Paul Ryan and other leaders in
:14:06. > :14:10.Congress and I and Mike Pence, who, by the way, how good a choice was
:14:11. > :14:13.vice president Mike Pence? CHEERING
:14:14. > :14:30.Everybody loves him. In fact, any time I got myself into
:14:31. > :14:33.a jam. I haven't been doing this stuff too long! Any time I got
:14:34. > :14:40.myself into a jam, oftentimes they would say on television, but look,
:14:41. > :14:44.he picked Mike Pence, so he's got to have something going right! So Mike
:14:45. > :14:48.really helped me out. Well, we are working on a tax reform Bill that
:14:49. > :14:55.will reduce our trade deficit, increase American exports and will
:14:56. > :14:58.generate revenue for Mexico -- from Mexico that will pay for the wall of
:14:59. > :15:03.we decide to go that route. It is time that the American people had a
:15:04. > :15:09.president fighting as hard for its citizens as other countries do for
:15:10. > :15:15.there is. And that's exactly what I'm going to do for you. Believe me.
:15:16. > :15:22.APPLAUSE Thank you. Thank you.
:15:23. > :15:28.It's time that somebody fought for our country, and didn't let anyone
:15:29. > :15:31.take advantage of us any more. The world has taken advantage of us for
:15:32. > :15:37.many years, not going to but any more. We will have an ambitious
:15:38. > :15:44.legislative agenda as well, our legislative work starts with
:15:45. > :15:49.repealing and replacing Obama care, and saving families from the
:15:50. > :15:55.catastrophic rise in premiums and debilitating loss of choice in just
:15:56. > :16:02.about everything else. And remember this for this room in particular.
:16:03. > :16:06.Obamacare is a disaster. The Democrats are putting up signs like
:16:07. > :16:10.it is wonderful, it's a disaster. I actually talked with Paul and the
:16:11. > :16:17.group about just doing nothing to years, and the Dems would come
:16:18. > :16:22.begging to do something, because 17 is going to be catastrophic rice
:16:23. > :16:28.increases, your deductibles through the roof, you can't use you can't
:16:29. > :16:31.use it. And they would come to us. Except we have one problem. We have
:16:32. > :16:38.to take care of the American people immediately. So we can't wait. But
:16:39. > :16:42.every time they tell you about Obamacare, we're taking them out of
:16:43. > :16:46.a big jam, big jam. We are putting ourselves at risk to a certain
:16:47. > :16:50.extent, because we are taking it off their platter. But I think,
:16:51. > :16:56.congressmen, I think we have no choice. I think we have no choice,
:16:57. > :16:59.we have to get it going. If we waited two years, it is going to
:17:00. > :17:04.explode like you have never seen an explosion, nobody is going to be
:17:05. > :17:07.able to afford it. It's a disaster. And that's politically what we
:17:08. > :17:11.should do, but we don't want to do that, we want to get something done
:17:12. > :17:15.and get it done right, and by the way, Tom Pryce is going to do a
:17:16. > :17:17.phenomenal job. I don't know if he's here, but he will do a phenomenal
:17:18. > :17:27.job. On my first day in office I signed
:17:28. > :17:31.an executive of the -- order to roll back Obamacare and produce the
:17:32. > :17:37.ability for individuals to choose customise plans that are truly right
:17:38. > :17:42.for them and have so many choices. Tom Price will soon be leading
:17:43. > :17:46.health and June this is. He is a true advocate for patients, he is
:17:47. > :17:51.going to do a phenomenal job, we have no doubt about that. He joins
:17:52. > :18:01.an all-star roster that includes many of your colleagues. Men who
:18:02. > :18:09.have had tough time in Congress. And in the Senate. But they came out
:18:10. > :18:14.very well. Mike Pompeo. He is a phenomenal guy along with Jeff
:18:15. > :18:22.Sessions. He is a fine person. He was one of my earliest endorses. I
:18:23. > :18:26.have never endorsed a presidential candidate before and he was one of
:18:27. > :18:31.my earliest ones and he did unbelievably well in front of the
:18:32. > :18:35.committee. In addition to fixing our health care we will pursue new trade
:18:36. > :18:38.deals that increase wages and produce more opportunities for
:18:39. > :18:43.American workers, bringing back those knives and words, made in the
:18:44. > :18:50.USA. We used to have that, we don't have that any more. It is going to
:18:51. > :18:54.be America first again. We will create millions of good paying jobs
:18:55. > :19:01.by removing the economic burdens that cripple our ability to compete.
:19:02. > :19:05.At the centre that agenda is tax reform that massively lowers taxes
:19:06. > :19:15.for our middle-class and for all American businesses. We will also
:19:16. > :19:17.pursue financial reform that will help striving Americans get the
:19:18. > :19:26.credit that they need to realise their dreams. Republicans have
:19:27. > :19:29.always been the party of American industry and the American worker. We
:19:30. > :19:34.must embrace that heritage, rebuilding this country with
:19:35. > :19:39.American goods and American labour. And we have started, believe me,
:19:40. > :19:43.over the last few months. I don't know, I would like to say I did
:19:44. > :19:46.about as much as any one or more intensive getting industry to start
:19:47. > :19:51.coming back to our country before I took office. But we have a lot of
:19:52. > :19:56.great news with Ford and General Motors and Fiat and Chrysler and
:19:57. > :19:59.many others. We have a great number of companies and great news. We have
:20:00. > :20:03.many additional people coming and going. We have a lot of positive
:20:04. > :20:08.things happening and you will start to see it bursting out very soon. We
:20:09. > :20:13.want to get our people off of welfare and back to work, it is so
:20:14. > :20:18.important. It is out of control, it is out of control. And we believe
:20:19. > :20:22.that the world's best country ought to have the world's best
:20:23. > :20:29.infrastructure. It is what our people deserve and that is what we
:20:30. > :20:32.will ensure they get. I infrastructure is in serious
:20:33. > :20:36.trouble. We will build new roads and highways and tunnels and airports
:20:37. > :20:41.and railway is across the nation. We will fix our existing product before
:20:42. > :20:46.we build anything brand-new. However, we have to fix what we
:20:47. > :20:50.have, it is a mess. So we will fix it first. What I do best in life is
:20:51. > :20:55.bold, we will fix at first because we have a lot of things that are in
:20:56. > :21:00.bad shape. And we will rebuild our military and take air of our great
:21:01. > :21:12.veterans. APPLAUSE
:21:13. > :21:16.Thank you. We are working hard with the
:21:17. > :21:21.veterans, we will do something very special with them. At the same time,
:21:22. > :21:27.we will unleash the full power of American energy, ending the job
:21:28. > :21:30.killing restrictions on shale gas, oil, natural gas and clean beautiful
:21:31. > :21:41.call. And we will put our coal miners back to work.
:21:42. > :21:46.APPLAUSE Thank you.
:21:47. > :21:54.And we will protect our farmers. Our ranchers. Our hunters, our anglers
:21:55. > :22:00.and all who enjoy the outdoors. But to be a rich country, we must also
:22:01. > :22:07.be a safe country. Right now, too many families do not feel secure.
:22:08. > :22:11.Just look at the 30 largest cities. In the last year a loan, the murder
:22:12. > :22:19.rate has increased by an estimated 14%. Here in Philadelphia, the
:22:20. > :22:23.murder rate has been steady, just terrible increasing and then you
:22:24. > :22:35.look at Chicago. What is going on in Chicago? I said the other day, what
:22:36. > :22:40.the hell is going on? A lot of truth to that! That is why we will
:22:41. > :22:43.continue to stand with the incredible men and women of law
:22:44. > :23:00.enforcement. APPLAUSE
:23:01. > :23:06.Yesterday, I had the honour of swearing and General John Kelly as
:23:07. > :23:13.the Secretary of Homeland Security. He will be amazing.
:23:14. > :23:23.Tomorrow I will swear in general James Mattis as our new secretary of
:23:24. > :23:27.this is. -- secretary of the fence. These men have dedicated their lives
:23:28. > :23:33.to defending America and I look forward to working with them. Along
:23:34. > :23:37.with our great new head of the... We have so many different people that
:23:38. > :23:43.we are putting in office, I think it is the group of stars, like, nobody
:23:44. > :23:52.has seen before. Where is Mike Pompeo? Where the hell is he? Did he
:23:53. > :23:56.ever come here? He is working? He is going to be another one of the big
:23:57. > :24:06.stars. I have to mention him every single time. And with you in
:24:07. > :24:11.Congress to keep our country safe from threats, that includes
:24:12. > :24:20.protecting Americans from radical Islamic terrorism.
:24:21. > :24:25.APPLAUSE We also need to keep the ballot box
:24:26. > :24:32.safe from illegal voting. And believe me, take a look at what
:24:33. > :24:36.is registering, folks, they like to have a go at me but look at what is
:24:37. > :24:40.registering. We are going to protect the integrity of the ballot box and
:24:41. > :24:45.we're going to defend the votes of the American citizens, it is so
:24:46. > :24:51.important. All of us here today, for the same reason, to serve the
:24:52. > :24:54.citizens of our country. We are not here for ourselves, we are here for
:24:55. > :25:00.them. We are here for the people. We are blessed by divinity and honoured
:25:01. > :25:04.by history with the task of preserving this great Republic and
:25:05. > :25:11.expanding its blessings to every single American.
:25:12. > :25:25.APPLAUSE Thank you. All of us are joined in
:25:26. > :25:30.this effort, all of us are bound by duty and bound by God to give
:25:31. > :25:38.powerful devotion to this country and its people. That obligation form
:25:39. > :25:47.is the moral foundation of our agenda. That agenda includes a lean,
:25:48. > :25:51.efficient government. One that appoints Supreme Court justices,
:25:52. > :25:55.that is so important, who will uphold and defend our Constitution,
:25:56. > :26:00.reducing taxation and regulation. Fair trade that creates A-level
:26:01. > :26:03.playing field, as opposed to what we have right now, and fostering
:26:04. > :26:08.respect for our country and its flight. We are now only at the
:26:09. > :26:14.beginning of this incredible journey together. -- flag-mac. I am honoured
:26:15. > :26:17.to be your partner in this amazing quest. I am privileged to stand with
:26:18. > :26:24.you, shoulder to shoulder, as we work every single day to make
:26:25. > :26:28.America great again. Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America. It
:26:29. > :26:28.is a great honour to be here, thank you very much.
:26:29. > :26:49.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE So, Donald Trump addressing
:26:50. > :26:51.Republicans there from both the House of Representatives and the
:26:52. > :26:55.Senate at their annual gathering before the start of the new session
:26:56. > :26:59.of the Congress that was elected in November, many of which members were
:27:00. > :27:03.elected at the same time as Donald Trump was elected.
:27:04. > :27:06.They will take office from those politicians, some of whom will
:27:07. > :27:10.obviously be serving in both but were elected at the previous set of
:27:11. > :27:14.elections. He is going to work with a clean sheet and it is going to be
:27:15. > :27:21.a busy term in Washington, according to the president. He has picked out
:27:22. > :27:23.a number of things to tackle immediately, one was Obamacare, the
:27:24. > :27:26.health service reforms were introduced by the president.
:27:27. > :27:30.Republicans, including President Trump has said it will be a disaster
:27:31. > :27:34.and he has said it is not in the interest of the American people to
:27:35. > :27:39.wait for the scheme to collapse under its own contradictions, as he
:27:40. > :27:43.proceeds them. He says to expect particular price rises for Americans
:27:44. > :27:49.relying upon the health insurance. That is one big commitment, others
:27:50. > :27:52.were made. It'll be interesting to see how many congressmen and
:27:53. > :27:59.Congresswoman will try to get pictures of Donald Trump. When you
:28:00. > :28:03.are the winner, everybody is on your side, whether or not you have
:28:04. > :28:06.endorsed them. He is now the leader of their party, in effect, but he
:28:07. > :28:10.will have to work with them and he will have to recognise that there
:28:11. > :28:15.are going to be quite a lot of pensions to surface. Let us speak
:28:16. > :28:18.again to my colleague in the Washington bureau. Anthony, thank
:28:19. > :28:24.you for joining us and listening to Donald Trump. What did you make of
:28:25. > :28:28.that? In many ways it was Donald Trump was my greatest hits tour. He
:28:29. > :28:32.spoke of winning Pennsylvania early on, and then he went through some of
:28:33. > :28:40.the executive actions he has taken over the past week. He spoke of the
:28:41. > :28:43.moves on the pipelines, authorising development of the pipelines,
:28:44. > :28:47.talking about repealing federal regulations, as he mentioned, the
:28:48. > :28:50.affordable care act. He did not really get too much into describing
:28:51. > :28:53.the legislative agenda sort of thing is that Congress can work on, it was
:28:54. > :29:01.more about the things he had already done. He talked about the scheduled
:29:02. > :29:06.meeting with the Mexican President Nieto. It was cancelled, he has said
:29:07. > :29:10.it was a joint decision on the part of both him and the Mexican
:29:11. > :29:14.president and in actuality the Mexican president said earlier today
:29:15. > :29:19.that he was cancelling it as a result of Donald Trump challenging
:29:20. > :29:24.and goading him on Twitter that he was going to come and pledged to pay
:29:25. > :29:29.for the wall. He also said that the world has taken advantage of the US
:29:30. > :29:32.too much in describing US foreign policy, speaking about having more
:29:33. > :29:38.bilateral trade agreements instead of multilateral trade deals. Also
:29:39. > :29:40.interesting was when he started to bite mark the North American Free
:29:41. > :29:44.Trade Agreement and you could tell it was a little bit awkward because
:29:45. > :29:47.the Republican Party has traditionally backed that trade
:29:48. > :29:52.agreement and it was a Republican President George Tubby H Bush in
:29:53. > :30:00.1991 that negotiated the deal. A lot of Republicans voted for that,
:30:01. > :30:03.including Democrats like Bill Clinton. It was interesting to see
:30:04. > :30:08.them talking down international trade deals. On the question of
:30:09. > :30:14.bilateral trade, we have to use a coming to visit the president in the
:30:15. > :30:18.White House tomorrow. She, I understand, has now landed, so she
:30:19. > :30:22.is in the United States but she will be addressing that issue. She is
:30:23. > :30:27.very keen to get warm words from him, what will she make of that?
:30:28. > :30:32.Should she be concerned about that reference that any bilateral trade
:30:33. > :30:38.deals will have a 30-day termination period, sort of like the contract
:30:39. > :30:42.you might have, not 14 days at least when you a washing machine or, you
:30:43. > :30:44.know, the buyer can change their mind, but that is quite a short
:30:45. > :30:50.potential cancellation on any great deal, isn't it? Yes, one of the ways
:30:51. > :30:58.that countries deal with each other is by developing reliable agreements
:30:59. > :31:01.that have any lasting power and that people can understand what the
:31:02. > :31:05.country is going to do once the agreements are in place and they can
:31:06. > :31:09.build their policies around that. If you are going to yank at the rug
:31:10. > :31:13.within 30 days, that is pretty unprecedented. You must remember,
:31:14. > :31:16.Donald Trump is coming from a business background, he is a
:31:17. > :31:23.business negotiator and perhaps in business negotiations he will be
:31:24. > :31:26.able to pull out really quickly, that it is part of the deal. Talking
:31:27. > :31:32.about handling negotiations with the Prime Minister, personally he has
:31:33. > :31:35.not had this commerce secretary confirmed yet but he gave a nod
:31:36. > :31:40.operatives, suggesting he could take care of the sort of business deals.
:31:41. > :31:43.-- a nod to the audience. Can I ask you something that he did not
:31:44. > :31:47.mention directly in his speech and that was the debate over whether
:31:48. > :31:53.water boarding would be introduced again by the government. Mitch
:31:54. > :31:57.McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, he has said that at that
:31:58. > :32:02.gathering, it is illegal at the moment, but of course, the ball
:32:03. > :32:05.could be changed. Yes, the law could be changed, there is perhaps some
:32:06. > :32:10.wriggle room that Donald Trump could find to authorise some enhanced
:32:11. > :32:14.interrogation, but it is definitely driving a divide in the Republican
:32:15. > :32:19.party. Paul Ryan said it was illegal and he did not want it changed. I
:32:20. > :32:29.think he avoided that because it was not a receptive audience to his idea
:32:30. > :32:32.on that. Thank you for your views. Let me bring you some news coming
:32:33. > :32:40.into us from the press Association as he listened to Donald Trump and
:32:41. > :32:57.that is that the death of a former Labour leader can DL.
:32:58. > :33:18.-- Tam Dalyell. He was against powers being devolved
:33:19. > :33:25.to Scotland, that was what he was well remembered for. He is the man
:33:26. > :33:28.who was a sceptic about the Scottish devolution and he was a remarkable
:33:29. > :33:31.advocate of his various causes, most prominently, of course, over his
:33:32. > :33:37.opposition to the Iraq war. He accused Tony Blair of being a war
:33:38. > :33:39.criminal. He was very much a rebel, a left-wing rebel in the
:33:40. > :33:43.Parliamentary Labour Party and was Father of the House of Commons
:33:44. > :33:48.having served more than 40 years as a leader. Tam Dalyell, who has died
:33:49. > :33:50.at the age of 84. Now it is time, little later than
:33:51. > :33:56.usual, for Sportsday.
