:00:17. > :00:19.Kellyanne Conway promoted the clothing range of

:00:20. > :00:21.the President's daughter in a live interview, something federal

:00:22. > :00:24.Meanwhile Donald Trump says these comments about his pick

:00:25. > :00:44.and on and on and on and poor comments made by President Trump

:00:45. > :00:50.about the judiciary -- he is disheartened and do moralised by the

:00:51. > :00:52.comments President Trump made about the judiciary.

:00:53. > :00:54.A colleague has confirmed that Neil Gorsuch made the comments,

:00:55. > :01:00.Also South Africa's president has been giving his annual state

:01:01. > :01:02.of the nation address - not everyone is happy

:01:03. > :01:04.You are constitutional delinquent. You have to leave!

:01:05. > :01:07.And then things got more heated, as members of the Economic Freedom

:01:08. > :01:09.Fighters party fought with security guards who ejected

:01:10. > :01:14.We will run you through that extraordinary series of events.

:01:15. > :01:16.This is the world's biggest refugee camp in Kenya.

:01:17. > :01:19.It was going to be closed by the government, but the country's

:01:20. > :01:24.We will talk you through that with the help of our correspondent in

:01:25. > :01:25.Nairobi. And if you want to get

:01:26. > :01:41.in touch - #BBCOS. As we do on every programme,

:01:42. > :01:45.here is a full update on what's been happening in the Trump

:01:46. > :01:54.administration in the last 24 hours: First, Kellyanne Conway -

:01:55. > :01:57.she's a White House special advisor, she's definitely in Donald Trump's

:01:58. > :01:59.inner circle, and according to the White House she's been

:02:00. > :02:02.reprimanded for comments she made It's all related to a story that

:02:03. > :02:05.starts with this tweet "My daughter Ivanka has been treated

:02:06. > :02:09.so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -

:02:10. > :02:11.always pushing me to The president was taking issue

:02:12. > :02:31.with a retailer for dropping his Next that tweet was retweeted

:02:32. > :02:35.by the @POTUS account. So that's the official Twitter

:02:36. > :02:37.feed of the President of America pushing out opinion

:02:38. > :02:39.on an individual business decision. That was yesterday, then today

:02:40. > :02:41.Kellyanne Conway went onto Fox News and said,

:02:42. > :02:43."Go buy Ivanka's stuff. I'm going to go get

:02:44. > :02:45.some myself today," "I'm going to give a free commercial

:02:46. > :02:52.here: Go buy it today, everybody." I do not have the rights to play you

:02:53. > :02:58.that clip but I can show you the court.

:02:59. > :03:01.And it's that which has got her this summons.

:03:02. > :03:04.We can now speak to Anthony Zurcher in Washington.

:03:05. > :03:11.Same old story. How much trouble is she in? There is a federal law which

:03:12. > :03:15.pretty much speaks directly to this, which says "An employee shall not

:03:16. > :03:19.use his public office for his private gain or the endorsement of

:03:20. > :03:23.any products, service or enterprise." So when Kellyanne

:03:24. > :03:26.Conway stands and says you should go out and buy the Nordstrom product

:03:27. > :03:31.that is pretty clearly a violation of this federal law. The way this

:03:32. > :03:40.has been handled in the past usually is for a supervisor, someone within

:03:41. > :03:42.the agency, to recommend that employee, possibly block their pay

:03:43. > :03:45.and some sort of suspension, so the curious thing here is it would have

:03:46. > :03:48.to be Trump's and White House punishing Kellyanne Conway, and the

:03:49. > :03:52.question is whether Donald Trump himself or someone in the senior

:03:53. > :03:54.staff would be willing to sanction Kellyanne Conway for comments that

:03:55. > :04:01.were basically in line with what the president himself had just As many

:04:02. > :04:03.as are of the opinion, say 'aye'. To the contrary, 'no'.. Presumably

:04:04. > :04:11.there is no chance of Donald Trump being sanctioned? -- the president

:04:12. > :04:15.himself had just tweeted. No, the president cannot be sanction, but

:04:16. > :04:19.there could be an adverse action towards a specific company, so

:04:20. > :04:23.opened himself up to lawsuits. The curious thing is Kellyanne Conway,

:04:24. > :04:28.the with these comments, and it kind of came off as a joking aside at the

:04:29. > :04:33.end of the interview, but with these comments everyone all of a sudden is

:04:34. > :04:37.speaking about Kellyanne Conway, from Democrats, to good government

:04:38. > :04:42.people, to Republicans, so she is catching the heat that the president

:04:43. > :04:44.was just yesterday. Imagine a destroyer pulling up between an

:04:45. > :04:52.incoming torpedo and aircraft carrier. She sacrifices herself but

:04:53. > :04:53.the main ship survives. All right, taking one for the team. Here is

:04:54. > :04:56.another story. Neil Gorsuch is Donald Trump's

:04:57. > :04:58.nominee for Supreme Court. This is Democratic Senator

:04:59. > :05:03.Richard Blumenthal. He says Mr Gorsuch told him

:05:04. > :05:05.that Mr Trump's recent comments on the judiciary

:05:06. > :05:07.are "disheartening My strong hope is that he will be

:05:08. > :05:25.more vehement publicly. He certainly expressed to me

:05:26. > :05:27.that he is disheartened by the demoralising and abhorrent

:05:28. > :05:29.comments made by President Trump Next - enter the

:05:30. > :05:44.president on Twitter. @RealDonaldTrump -

:05:45. > :05:45."Sen.Richard Blumenthal, who never fought in Vietnam

:05:46. > :05:47.when he said for years he had, now misrepresents

:05:48. > :05:50.what Judge Gorsuch told him?" Combative comments

:05:51. > :05:56.from the president. Let's do an Outside Source Fact

:05:57. > :05:59.Check on those claims. We know that former Republican

:06:00. > :06:00.senator Kelly Ayotte, who is helping with Mr Gorsuch's

:06:01. > :06:03.confirmation, issued a statement saying the comments were not

:06:04. > :06:05.referring to any specific case but that he finds any criticism

:06:06. > :06:08.of a judge's integrity and independence to be

:06:09. > :06:09."disheartening and demoralising." So that backs up that

:06:10. > :06:12.the words were used, though it's not the same

:06:13. > :06:24.as Mr Gorsuch saying so. I guess that means we cannot be too

:06:25. > :06:29.precise about whether the president is right or wrong? Right, it is all

:06:30. > :06:34.second-hand information, and what I think this will do is increase the

:06:35. > :06:39.pressure on judge Gorsuch to either confirm or deny he said that

:06:40. > :06:42.personally. I imagine at the Senate confirmation hearings for is just a

:06:43. > :06:47.ship he will be asked directly, do you agree with what Donald Trump is

:06:48. > :06:49.doing with his immigration order in questioning the judgment of

:06:50. > :06:54.so-called judges, and he will have to answer that or dodge it, but in

:06:55. > :07:00.the background there will be these stories about how he has already

:07:01. > :07:04.told people with the cameras running that this was a problem. He has not

:07:05. > :07:10.denied it but been silent so far but I am not sure he will be able to

:07:11. > :07:17.stay silent too much longer. OK, so the president attacking a Democratic

:07:18. > :07:18.senator. A major retailer, and now...

:07:19. > :07:20.Donald Trump has also attacked Senator John McCain,

:07:21. > :07:22.who is one of the most senior Republicans.

:07:23. > :07:24.Senator McCain said a recent operation in Yemen wasn't a success.

:07:25. > :07:31.We actually discuss that on Outside Source yesterday, that operation.

:07:32. > :07:33.Trump told NBC News "When you lose a $75 million airplane

:07:34. > :07:52.-- john McCain told NBC News. I don't believe you can

:07:53. > :07:54.We might add that 12 civilians including children were also killed.

:07:55. > :07:59.McCain should not be talking about the success or failure

:08:00. > :08:03.He went on to described a 'winning mission'.

:08:04. > :08:08.These two have formed? Yes, this goes back to the beginning of Donald

:08:09. > :08:16.Trump's presidential campaign when he questioned John McCain's heroism.

:08:17. > :08:20.John McCain of course is a decorated hero, fought in Vietnam, a prisoner

:08:21. > :08:24.of war, but Donald Trump said, "I prefer my he was not to be

:08:25. > :08:27.captured." And at the same everyone thought it was ridiculous, Donald

:08:28. > :08:32.Trump has done it now and his presidential campaign will collapse.

:08:33. > :08:36.Of course it didn't it went on and John McCain eventually came around

:08:37. > :08:39.and somewhat supported Donald Trump's presidential campaign but

:08:40. > :08:42.obviously there is a lot of tension and bad blood still there and as

:08:43. > :08:46.soon as John McCain said something, Donald Trump was very quick to fire

:08:47. > :08:55.off a number of tweets this morning pushing back. Thank you very much,

:08:56. > :08:56.Anthony, live with us from Washington. Well, that was American

:08:57. > :08:57.democracy. This is what South Africa's

:08:58. > :09:06.democracy looked like today. President Zuma gave his State

:09:07. > :09:09.of the Union speech. Before things got physical,

:09:10. > :09:25.the verbal attacks started coming. Sitting in front of us here, is a

:09:26. > :09:30.man... You're out of order. And incorrigible man, brought in, and

:09:31. > :09:40.that has been found by the Constitutional court, and this

:09:41. > :09:50.story... A majority to keep him, but it doesn't make him a legitimate

:09:51. > :09:55.president! Mr Zuma has collapsed his own right to address us here. Mr

:09:56. > :10:03.President, 441 soldiers to protect you...

:10:04. > :10:06.That was the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party -

:10:07. > :10:09.After a number of disturbances, security guards were called,

:10:10. > :10:15.He was being called an honourable member but we will judge how

:10:16. > :10:24.honourable -- I will let you judge how honourable he was...

:10:25. > :10:33.The people in white are security guards. You would have seen a major

:10:34. > :10:34.right hook going in from one of the EFF members as they were escorted

:10:35. > :10:35.out. If the EFF members left

:10:36. > :10:39.in the middle of a scrum. The biggest opposition

:10:40. > :10:50.party, the Democratic As we speak there are military

:10:51. > :10:53.personnel with rifles in combat fatigues on the parliamentary

:10:54. > :10:56.precinct. There are a riot police lining the streets outside and on

:10:57. > :11:05.the precinct right outside this building. Our guests, they have been

:11:06. > :11:08.it with some form of tear gas. Madame Houster, Madam Speaker, no

:11:09. > :11:12.democracy should have to witness what we are witnessing in this

:11:13. > :11:19.house. This man has broken South Africa. You are breaking the

:11:20. > :11:28.Parliament. After that the Democratic Alliance's members watch

:11:29. > :11:34.out. They had lots of disagreements with President Zuma, but they said

:11:35. > :11:37.they had militarised an area with Lee Grant that should have no

:11:38. > :11:40.military presence. That was going on inside Parliament but if that was

:11:41. > :11:48.not enough, this was going on outside... Supporters of the

:11:49. > :11:54.government, the ANC government, plus supporters of the EFF and the DA,

:11:55. > :11:58.the two main opposition groups, and police had to use stun guns to

:11:59. > :12:04.disperse the crowds, so that also spiked, and in the middle of all of

:12:05. > :12:11.this president Gorsuch did also give his speech. Here's one part... In

:12:12. > :12:16.these 20, 30 years of our freedom, our mission remains. Our quest for a

:12:17. > :12:21.united democratic nonsexist nonracial and prosperous South

:12:22. > :12:30.Africa. Guided by the National development plan, we are building a

:12:31. > :12:39.South Africa that must be free from poverty, inequality and

:12:40. > :12:44.unemployment. Whilst the global economic environment remains

:12:45. > :12:50.uncertain, indications are that we have entered a period of recovery.

:12:51. > :12:54.The last point to make is that the president is not just under pressure

:12:55. > :12:58.from the opposition. He is under pressure from some people within his

:12:59. > :13:03.own party, the ANC. The ANC has been in power since the beginning of

:13:04. > :13:07.democracy in South Africa, 1994 and end of apartheid. Some people in the

:13:08. > :13:10.ANC think there is too much corruption, too much bad governance

:13:11. > :13:14.and there is a risk they could lose the next election, hence the huge

:13:15. > :13:16.pressure on the president from within own party as well as from the

:13:17. > :13:20.opposing parties. Stay with us because coming up

:13:21. > :13:23.we have a report from the US It was a year ago today that

:13:24. > :13:26.Donald Trump claimed victory The BBC's Rajini Vaidyanathan went

:13:27. > :13:30.to find out how voters Official figures

:13:31. > :13:42.show only 86% of A patients in England were dealt

:13:43. > :13:45.with within four hours in December. That's the lowest

:13:46. > :13:46.since the 95% target Provisional data leaked to the BBC

:13:47. > :14:00.has also suggested the performance Our health editor Hugh Pym explains

:14:01. > :14:03.the extent of the pressures for emergency departments

:14:04. > :14:16.across the UK. It was 86.2%, the worst since

:14:17. > :14:23.records began in 2004. Scotland was actually higher, 92.6%. Wheels down

:14:24. > :14:27.at 81% and Northern Ireland just below 70%, so the same pressures

:14:28. > :14:32.everywhere -- Wales were down. Different bits of the UK reacting in

:14:33. > :14:39.slightly different ways. Let me quote another statistic. Almost

:14:40. > :14:40.500,000 emergency admissions to hospitals in England in December,

:14:41. > :14:46.another record high. This is Outside Source live

:14:47. > :14:51.from the BBC newsroom. Key Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway

:14:52. > :14:55.has been reprimanded by the White House after she promoted

:14:56. > :14:58.a clothing range owned Miss Conway told a breakfast

:14:59. > :15:07.television programme to "go Her comments have been labelled over

:15:08. > :15:10.the line and unacceptable. -- Now to some of the main stories

:15:11. > :15:24.from BBC World Service... The International Committee

:15:25. > :15:26.of the Red Cross is temporarily suspending its aid programme

:15:27. > :15:28.in Afghanistan after an an attack on one of its convoys

:15:29. > :15:30.killed six staff dead. BBC Mundo reports that

:15:31. > :15:35.Julian Assange will be given a month's notice to leave

:15:36. > :15:37.the Ecuadorian embassy if the country's main

:15:38. > :15:39.opposition wins the presidency Guillermo Lasso is the candidate -

:15:40. > :15:43.he was talking to the Guardian. This man in Australia spent hours

:15:44. > :15:46.keep his head just above water after his digger toppled

:15:47. > :15:55.into a waterhole and then I cannot believe you haven't already

:15:56. > :15:59.seen this. He was rescued and there were no injuries. The good news.

:16:00. > :16:08.One of the reasons we've got a social media feed

:16:09. > :16:10.that is always available for me here is that Twitter has

:16:11. > :16:16.As you'll know it's Donald Trump's number one way to communicate.

:16:17. > :16:21.Many other public figures use it too.

:16:22. > :16:28.But here's the thing - Twitter is losing money.

:16:29. > :16:30.It has 319 million users worldwide, but since 2011,

:16:31. > :16:34.Today, it reported a loss of $167 million for the fourth

:16:35. > :16:37.And with a certain inevitability, its shares dropped nearly

:16:38. > :16:50.On the BBC North America Tech correspondent, live with us from the

:16:51. > :16:56.north coast. -- West Coast. An awful lot of money to be losing. What is

:16:57. > :17:00.Twitter spending it on? The losses have grown in the past year because

:17:01. > :17:03.they have been trying to invest in new ways to keep people on the

:17:04. > :17:08.platform, on Twitter, and also attract new people do it. They have

:17:09. > :17:12.been striking deals with the NFL to short-lived American football on

:17:13. > :17:15.Twitter. That does not seem to have increased engagement to the level

:17:16. > :17:19.they hoped it would. That is where they are spending the money, but

:17:20. > :17:24.having said that Twitter losing money has really been a problem for

:17:25. > :17:27.it. A Silicon Valley company losing money is almost just part of the

:17:28. > :17:30.package -- not really a problem for it. What has really been a problem

:17:31. > :17:39.is that user number you mention, just over 390 million users, active

:17:40. > :17:43.daily users, and that has barely moved over the past year, and the

:17:44. > :17:46.fact they are not growing at all really is a big problem for Twitter

:17:47. > :17:51.when you compare it to something like Facebook which has exploded

:17:52. > :17:54.over the last few years with 1.6 billion users, and 300 million or so

:17:55. > :17:56.does not see many at all because it is not. Thank you for that. Let's

:17:57. > :18:04.highlight a company making money. It's a little known start-up based

:18:05. > :18:09.in New York specialising in real In the past week shares

:18:10. > :18:12.in Snap have surged 95% - but that's because traders thought

:18:13. > :18:15.they were buying into the firm behind Snapchat,

:18:16. > :18:27.which is called Snap Inc. Don't take your microphone off yet,

:18:28. > :18:31.I am hoping to ask your question on this! How is this possible? Surely

:18:32. > :18:35.investors know who they are buying? You would think so, wouldn't you?

:18:36. > :18:41.LAUGHTER I think it just goes to show how

:18:42. > :18:46.excited investors are for the people who make Snapchat. Some people are

:18:47. > :18:49.getting ahead of themselves and investing in Snap Interactive,

:18:50. > :18:54.although an impressive company in its own write nothing near the $20

:18:55. > :18:59.billion evaluation Snapchat will eventually have when it opens. But I

:19:00. > :19:03.am sure Snap Interactive are not complaining about their lucky break!

:19:04. > :19:10.You can take off your microphone now, OK. They've live with us from

:19:11. > :19:16.silicon valley. We have spoken about Twitter. Next...

:19:17. > :19:18.The bosses of America's top airlines and airports met Donald Trump

:19:19. > :19:22.Top of the agenda - the US air traffic control system.

:19:23. > :19:25.He said, "I hear we're spending billions and billions of dollars,

:19:26. > :19:32.it's a system that's totally out of whack."

:19:33. > :19:35.You might need some help translating that one.

:19:36. > :19:46.What did he mean by that? LAUGHTER

:19:47. > :19:50.I think when it comes to the way the aviation system is run here in the

:19:51. > :19:53.US, he does make a good point, that it is quite outdated, and when it

:19:54. > :20:00.comes to air traffic control, they are slow to modernise. But what some

:20:01. > :20:04.airline executives have been saying to Mr Trump in this meeting, the

:20:05. > :20:11.best way to modernise is actually to privatise the air traffic control.

:20:12. > :20:14.Right now it is being governed by the FAA, the Federal aviation

:20:15. > :20:17.administration, usually the way it is done by most countries around the

:20:18. > :20:22.world. A Government oversight committee that really runs the

:20:23. > :20:26.traffic, but what some airline executives have been arguing with Mr

:20:27. > :20:30.Trump, and it seems he has taken to that argument, that they should

:20:31. > :20:34.actually outsource that an privatise it altogether. We know Mr Trump is

:20:35. > :20:37.very keen on keeping business in the US, so if it were privatised with

:20:38. > :20:44.that be privatised with American businesses prioritised? That is a

:20:45. > :20:48.big question. You know, nobody really knows. This is the first

:20:49. > :20:53.discussions about it. What has been said is that some of the structures

:20:54. > :20:57.of this private company that would exist, it would be nonprofit in

:20:58. > :21:00.nature, but what some of the executives were arguing, it would

:21:01. > :21:04.just allow things to move a lot faster in terms of being able to

:21:05. > :21:10.modernise and keep up with different technologies and different systems.

:21:11. > :21:14.Thank you very much, Samira, good to speak to you.

:21:15. > :21:16.A report now from Rajini Vaidyanathan in New Hampshire.

:21:17. > :21:19.Rajini's there because a year ago today Donald Trump claimed victory

:21:20. > :21:22.It was his first major step towards the White House.

:21:23. > :21:25.Hillary Clinton ended up taking the state in the election -

:21:26. > :21:27.but the President still has a lot of supporters there -

:21:28. > :21:39.Just like the person he voted for, Keith is a businessman who works in

:21:40. > :21:43.the hotel industry. I saw it all the way of... Owner of a small

:21:44. > :21:48.construction company, he is a registered independents does not

:21:49. > :21:52.vote along party lines. If he were a politician we would not have elected
