:00:00. > :00:19.GUNFIRE. OH, MY GOD, THEY'RE SHOOTING BACK-AND-FORTH. So many

:00:20. > :00:22.lives ended in minutes. We have shots fired. You're requested to

:00:23. > :00:29.stay back, don't enter the scene. People killed by a gunman who fired

:00:30. > :00:37.into crowds without mercy. We'd hear gunshot after gunshot after gunshot,

:00:38. > :00:42.pop, pop, pop. It is the dead least mass shooting in recent US history.

:00:43. > :00:44.As they ran out of the bathroom into the hallway, he started shooting

:00:45. > :00:52.them and killing them right. There But this is not a film about

:00:53. > :00:55.the killer. I could care less about him. I don't care anything about

:00:56. > :00:59.him. I don't want to speak his name. I don't want to see his picture. I

:01:00. > :01:05.don't want to do any of that. It's about the people inside the club

:01:06. > :01:08.when the shooting started. I just had to leave my eyes open because I

:01:09. > :01:16.was scared if I blinked he was going to shoot me in my face. I'm looking

:01:17. > :01:36.around like, this is actually happening, oh, my God.

:01:37. > :01:44.MUSIC It's Saturday night in Orlando.

:01:45. > :01:51.Around 300 people are in Pulse, a gay nightclub. We all had worked

:01:52. > :01:55.during the day that day. We were all off that night. We decided to go out

:01:56. > :02:00.and have a good time. 26-year-old Angel Colon is out with his friends.

:02:01. > :02:09.We just had a good night. It was a nice night, very calm, very chilled.

:02:10. > :02:13.There was no drama. Doorman, Imran Yousuf, has just started working at

:02:14. > :02:18.Pulse. He's an ex-US marine who served in Afghanistan. Saturday

:02:19. > :02:22.nights are a Latin night. My favourite night. I love the music.

:02:23. > :02:34.So, it was regular night. Miguel Lieva is out celebrating.

:02:35. > :02:39.He's just recovered from cancer. It was packed. I mean elbow to elbow,

:02:40. > :02:49.people dancing. Everybody's having a good time. In town on holiday, best

:02:50. > :02:55.friends Tiara Parker and Patience Carter. They're with Tiara's cousin,

:02:56. > :03:00.Akyra Murray. Me and Tiara have always been best friends. When I got

:03:01. > :03:05.invited on this vacation, I made it, like, one of my plans was to get to

:03:06. > :03:10.know Akyra better. She was a funny person. Chef was really sweet. --

:03:11. > :03:16.she was really sweet. She captivated a room. I was just watching my

:03:17. > :03:21.cousin and best friend. They were bonding. They were really enjoying

:03:22. > :03:23.themselves. It was really a great night. We had the best time of our

:03:24. > :03:42.lives. A gunman, armed with an assault

:03:43. > :03:53.rifle and a handgun, walks into the club. Amanda Alvear is filming as

:03:54. > :03:59.the shooting starts. Behind her people are being killed. Amanda

:04:00. > :04:06.won't make it out alive either. We were on the main area, the main

:04:07. > :04:13.floor, then out of nowhere we hear a big, loud gunshot. Was that really

:04:14. > :04:17.gunshots? That's the only thing in my head. There's no way that was a

:04:18. > :04:27.gunshot. There's no way. It kept going. We just start running and we

:04:28. > :04:34.just hear gunshot after gunshot after gunshot - pop, pop, pop. I had

:04:35. > :04:37.to take two steps into running and I was shot already. I can't move

:04:38. > :04:40.anywhere, so I decided to take cover and stay on the floor. I'm looking

:04:41. > :04:47.around and you just see the bodies flying down. He's shooting all over

:04:48. > :04:52.the place. An off-duty police officer is outside the club. He

:04:53. > :04:58.immediately looked where the gunshots were coming from and

:04:59. > :05:03.engaged the suspect. The killer. He was armed with a handgun. The killer

:05:04. > :05:11.was armed with a rifle, which is a lot more power than our handguns.

:05:12. > :05:18.The shots started ringing out. We're like what is that? I stood froze. I

:05:19. > :05:24.didn't know what to do. Then I realised that when the shots got

:05:25. > :05:28.closer, I seen like wall chippings, like you know, I feel like wall

:05:29. > :05:34.pieces are falling on my arms and I just couldn't believe what I was

:05:35. > :05:41.seeing. Patience and Akyra manage to escape. I'm outside, but where's

:05:42. > :05:47.Tiara? And she's like Tiara's inside. I'm just like, we've got to

:05:48. > :05:55.go get Tiara. They go back into the club. It's a decision that will

:05:56. > :05:59.change their lives. Inside the gunman is shooting into the crowd.

:06:00. > :06:06.Imran is in a staff corridor at the back of the club. People started

:06:07. > :06:13.pouring in. At this point, now, I'm cornered with everyone else and

:06:14. > :06:19.we're all just like packed. It was distraught. Fear like you couldn't

:06:20. > :06:26.even imagine, just eyes that were just bulging, just having no idea

:06:27. > :06:31.what to do. They were just lost. Honestly, looking at those faces,

:06:32. > :06:36.you can tell a lot of them accepted the reality. I mean, that they were

:06:37. > :06:44.dead, there's no way out of here. But there is a way out, a security

:06:45. > :06:50.door that club goers haven't seen. I am yelling, "Open the F-ing door." I

:06:51. > :06:58.could hear the gunshots getting louder and closer. So, to me, it was

:06:59. > :07:04.if I reach for this door, I'm going to get shot and die. I jumped over

:07:05. > :07:11.the people that were there. I unlatched that door and I opened it.

:07:12. > :07:18.Everyone started pouring out. The people caught in that corridor can

:07:19. > :07:22.now get out. But dozens more are trapped in the toilets. Miguel is

:07:23. > :07:30.one of them. He can hear the gunman talking. He says, "Everybody come

:07:31. > :07:35.out because everybody's gonna die." So people listened to him and they

:07:36. > :07:39.ran out of the bathroom. As they ran out of the bathroom into the

:07:40. > :07:43.hallway, he just started shooting them and killing them right there.

:07:44. > :07:48.Patience and Akyra have found Tiara and the three friends are hidden in

:07:49. > :07:57.a stall in the other toilet. It's packed. The gunman is now moving

:07:58. > :08:05.towards them. It wasn't even registering until like he came in

:08:06. > :08:10.and started pop, pop, pop, pop... Looking around like, this is

:08:11. > :08:14.actually happening, oh, my God. And we had to get on the floor of the

:08:15. > :08:20.bathroom stall and I'm just like on the floor. I'm like, oh, my God.

:08:21. > :08:28.This is actually happening. It was like shhh, shhh. Be quiet, be quiet!

:08:29. > :08:36.I remember hearing him saying, "My gun's jammed." And I'm just like

:08:37. > :08:40.shocked, like, so my Patience looks at me. I look at Patience, I look at

:08:41. > :08:45.my cousin. And Patience is like we can jump him and get out of here. By

:08:46. > :08:50.that time, the person that was holding onto the door got the memo

:08:51. > :08:55.that was going to be the plan. When he opened the door the shooter shot

:08:56. > :09:00.into the stall. Me Patience and Akyra were the first to get those

:09:01. > :09:04.shots. Everybody occur rig around screaming like, "Please stop.

:09:05. > :09:11.Please!" It wasn't until I looked down at my leg and I saw the blood,

:09:12. > :09:19.just like coming out of my right thigh. I'm like - I've been shot.

:09:20. > :09:23.The gunman is heading back to the dance floor, where Angel is lying

:09:24. > :09:27.injured. He's been shot three times and his leg has been broken in the

:09:28. > :09:33.stampede of people trying to get out. I have this lady now that has

:09:34. > :09:38.fallen next to me. She's yelling. She's in pain. I tell her, "Grab my

:09:39. > :09:43.arm. I got you. We're together in this, all right? She's Brenda McCool

:09:44. > :09:49.a mother of 11 on a night out with one of her sons. I hear the

:09:50. > :09:55.gunshots, now they're getting closer. Now he's back in the same

:09:56. > :10:01.room that I'm in again. I don't see his face, but I notice all the

:10:02. > :10:06.gunshots are slower, you know, ba, ba, ba. And I notice he's shooting

:10:07. > :10:14.everyone that's on the floor, just making sure they're dead. I can feel

:10:15. > :10:17.the heat of the gunshots getting closer, louder, closer and louder. I

:10:18. > :10:30.look over and I see him shoot the girl next to me. I'm thinking, "I'm

:10:31. > :10:37.next. I'm dead." I just hear the shots - ba, ba, ba. It was on me. I

:10:38. > :10:41.feel my body jump. And I just feel the warm of the blood, all the blood

:10:42. > :10:50.I'm losing. I'm like oh, my God. I can't believe he just shot me three

:10:51. > :10:55.more times, like, what is going on? Oh, God. Right across from Pulse,

:10:56. > :10:59.it's full of cops. A police team arrives at the club. It's been just

:11:00. > :11:05.six minutes since the shooting was reported to them. They broke a

:11:06. > :11:09.window, entered through the Southend of the building. They immediately

:11:10. > :11:18.went into gunfire looking for the killer. They're shooting

:11:19. > :11:23.back-and-forth. Vamanos. The entire OPD shows up, all of Orlando Police

:11:24. > :11:27.department, just rushing down the road and blocking this entire area.

:11:28. > :11:31.Shots are still going off. These officers are getting out with guns

:11:32. > :11:37.and ready to start shooting. Oh, my God. They're all shooting

:11:38. > :11:47.back-and-forth. The police assault forces the gunman to the back of the

:11:48. > :11:53.club. Oh, my God. People are getting shot, dude. Let's get out of here,

:11:54. > :11:57.man. Oh, my God. They see people on the dance floor. They see people

:11:58. > :12:01.running out of the club, people bleeding, people needing help. They

:12:02. > :12:07.moved in and they rescued a lot of people. It's probably pretty

:12:08. > :12:11.horrific for them. I think they kind of put that aside, realised they

:12:12. > :12:19.needed to move and get people out of the club. Mostly everyone's dead in

:12:20. > :12:22.that room. I look up and I see an officer coming in. I look at him and

:12:23. > :12:28.I'm like, "Please help me. Please help me. I'm on the floor. I can't

:12:29. > :12:36.crawl. There's glass everywhere." He comes running to me and tells me,

:12:37. > :12:40."The only way we can get out is if I grab your hands and I drag you." I

:12:41. > :12:46.was in shorts. I could just feel the glass all over my legs and my

:12:47. > :12:50.bottom. It's just, I'm just telling him, "Please hurry. Hurry." He was

:12:51. > :12:53.able to drag me across the street to the restaurant where all the

:12:54. > :13:01.survivors and the bodies were. He drops me off there. I'm just laying

:13:02. > :13:06.down and I'm looking at the sky and I'm like, oh, my God, I made it. The

:13:07. > :13:14.police now have the gunman trapped in the toilets. The shooting stops.

:13:15. > :13:21.But there are dozens of hostages, including Patience, Tiara and Akyra.

:13:22. > :13:25.You're looking at somebody's face, their soul is just gone. Mood all

:13:26. > :13:31.over the bottom -- blood all over the bottom of a toilet, that part of

:13:32. > :13:35.the toilet was just blood all over it, just a hand, like blood all over

:13:36. > :13:39.it. You look back, you could barely see, but you could see piles of

:13:40. > :13:45.people on top of each other just as terrified and bloody as you are and

:13:46. > :13:52.someone directly behind you scared to death. Then you just have to...

:13:53. > :14:06.God, God, please. The gunman makes the first of four

:14:07. > :14:11.calls to the police. You can hear him get on the phone with 911. He

:14:12. > :14:14.pledge as leaningance to Isis. And we're just like, oh, my God, is this

:14:15. > :14:19.seriously happening right now? Because this is the stuff that we

:14:20. > :14:23.only see on TV. He says it's nothing personal towards you guys. He said,

:14:24. > :14:27.I'm just trying to make my message heard. This is kind of like a

:14:28. > :14:31.terrorist event, so it kind of raises the stakes a little bit,

:14:32. > :14:42.because you know his only mission now is to kill as many people as he

:14:43. > :14:47.can. Commander Heavy. Go ahead. I just saw you walking back behind. I

:14:48. > :14:55.have a ballistic vest for any of our individuals that are entering the

:14:56. > :14:56.red zone. After leading the escape, Imran starts helping other

:14:57. > :15:01.survivors. IMRAN YUSUF: They were being brought

:15:02. > :15:04.out by other people and so we went over there to help and we were told,

:15:05. > :15:08.let's bring all the wounded to an area that

:15:09. > :15:10.cops already set up. The nearest hospital

:15:11. > :15:32.is only half a mile away. DR JOSEPH IBRAHIM: There

:15:33. > :15:35.was a lot of blood. And these were massive

:15:36. > :15:44.injuries, abdominal wounds, chest wounds, that he must

:15:45. > :15:49.have been very close, with an assault rifle,

:15:50. > :16:00.that I've not seen that before. ANGEL COLON: I was in the first

:16:01. > :16:02.round that were able I was yelling at them,

:16:03. > :16:08."Turn me around, turn me They told me it was like a puzzle,

:16:09. > :16:17.like how are we going to put this DR JOSEPH IBRAHIM: We had eight pass

:16:18. > :16:27.away in the emergency department and one

:16:28. > :16:32.on the way to the operating room. So, you know, having to stop,

:16:33. > :16:35.with one patient so that you can move on to the next one,

:16:36. > :16:38.that you could, potentially, save. That, that was the hardest part,

:16:39. > :16:42.it's, you know, saying OK, In the toilet stalls,

:16:43. > :16:54.phones keep ringing. PATIENCE CARTER: It was families

:16:55. > :16:57.calling and they wanted Phones just kept ringing and text

:16:58. > :17:04.messages kept going off and he said turn them off,

:17:05. > :17:08.like, give me your phone, he didn't want anybody

:17:09. > :17:11.to be on the phone. But some hostages are secretly

:17:12. > :17:15.talking to the police. MIGUEL LIEVA: We were already

:17:16. > :17:17.in contact with the negotiator, one of the guys was talking

:17:18. > :17:20.to the negotiator, he was whispering So as we're, we're getting

:17:21. > :17:25.the details from the Swat team they're telling us

:17:26. > :17:27.that they were gonna come This is what's happening

:17:28. > :17:55.in one of the toilets. MIGUEL LIEVA: There was nothing we

:17:56. > :17:58.can do. We were just trying to be quiet

:17:59. > :18:01.because so he didn't come The gunman's told them there's one

:18:02. > :18:15.outside and he has a suicide vest. TIARA PARKER: He said I have

:18:16. > :18:18.enough bombs that can take out a city block,

:18:19. > :18:30.that's when I knew my life was over. The police Swat team stay

:18:31. > :18:36.inside despite the bomb threat. CAPTAIN MARK CANTY: It didn't really

:18:37. > :18:39.change their mission, they knew they had to get people

:18:40. > :18:42.inside, they weren't really thinking of themselves because I think common

:18:43. > :18:46.sense probably tells you - hey, if somebody has a bomb,

:18:47. > :18:49.you need to back away. could have the Swat team to move,

:18:50. > :18:59.I don't think they would have listened to me cos they knew

:19:00. > :19:01.they had to stay where they were because there were people

:19:02. > :19:04.inside that they could With the killer close by,

:19:05. > :19:09.the police take a chance. They remove an air conditioning

:19:10. > :19:11.unit, helping more CAPTAIN MARK CANTY: They push that

:19:12. > :19:19.air-conditioning unit out a hole in the wall and pulled

:19:20. > :19:23.people out of that hole. Obviously if you just push it,

:19:24. > :19:26.it will fall and the killer will possibly know that

:19:27. > :19:29.there's more people, A lot of coordination

:19:30. > :19:34.went through that. The officers put themselves

:19:35. > :19:37.in great peril. The people inside, I'm sure,

:19:38. > :19:40.were terrified and to kind of maintain control and keep quiet

:19:41. > :19:44.and listen to officers and do By now the police have full

:19:45. > :19:50.control of the club ? The killer is outside the stall

:19:51. > :19:57.where the three friends TIARA PARKER: I remember him bending

:19:58. > :20:06.down and looking under like this and when I seen him do that I just

:20:07. > :20:09.had to leave my eyes open because I was scared if I blinked

:20:10. > :20:14.he was going to shoot me in my face. So I just stayed like this and I'm

:20:15. > :20:17.guessing he must have thought PATIENCE CARTER: We were helpless,

:20:18. > :20:21.we were completely helpless and that was the scariest thing

:20:22. > :20:24.to see his feet just keep moving, He even said, "I got plenty

:20:25. > :20:33.of bullets," at one point, clicking and reloading his gun,

:20:34. > :20:36.tormenting us for hours CAPTAIN MARK CANTY: I was called

:20:37. > :20:44.back to the command post to brief I told them that our best option

:20:45. > :20:52.was to do an explosive breach on one The Chief said, "Let me

:20:53. > :21:09.know when you're ready." PATIENCE CARTER: So time has passed,

:21:10. > :21:17.time has passed and then all of a sudden out

:21:18. > :21:24.of nowhere we hear this, like, explosion it sounded like,

:21:25. > :21:26.and everyone just jumps, everybody in the bathroom stall

:21:27. > :21:29.just, their whole, entire, everybody's entire body shakes

:21:30. > :21:31.and I even think he shook CAPTAIN MARK CANTY:

:21:32. > :21:35.They set the charge, the whole wall in as we expected

:21:36. > :21:42.but it did kind of go through. PATIENCE CARTER: This speaker

:21:43. > :21:44.goes off that says: "Get so we know that it's the police,

:21:45. > :21:49.it's the police right there, TIARA PARKER: I thought the shooter

:21:50. > :21:53.was blowing down the building PATIENCE CARTER: He comes

:21:54. > :22:00.in our stall, says, "Hey you" CAPTAIN MARK CANTY: We used

:22:01. > :22:13.our Bear Cat armoured vehicle which has a ram

:22:14. > :22:16.on the front, to push They were able to make that hole

:22:17. > :22:20.large enough to get people out and then they were able to get

:22:21. > :22:23.several hostages out of that hole. MIGUEL LIEVA: I was the third person

:22:24. > :22:25.out. When I got out I fell belly first

:22:26. > :22:29.and I noticed that one of the guys we were trying to keep

:22:30. > :22:31.alive the whole time they just left him there,

:22:32. > :22:34.I guess they thought he was dead. So I'm like, "He's still alive, he's

:22:35. > :22:37.still alive, and there's people." The last three people came out

:22:38. > :22:40.behind me and the Swat team member So I grab his arm and his leg and I

:22:41. > :22:45.was run...running, the gunman comes out through,

:22:46. > :22:48.through the hole that they just CAPTAIN MARK CANTY: He's in that

:22:49. > :22:52.hole, he's got guns in his hands and obviously points them

:22:53. > :22:53.at our officers. PATIENCE CARTER: And then they say,

:22:54. > :22:56."Put your weapon down, put your weapon down,"

:22:57. > :22:58.and he's not doing it TIARA PARKER: The shell casings

:22:59. > :23:19.are like ricocheting off of things so, like, I'm getting burned,

:23:20. > :23:22.it feels like the branding, like I'm getting branded,

:23:23. > :23:28.like I just feel it. And I remember, after

:23:29. > :23:32.that, I seen him die. They didn't even have

:23:33. > :23:34.to confirm that. PATIENCE CARTER: Under the debris

:23:35. > :23:41.of the wall and the, the stall in my face I'm just like,

:23:42. > :23:44.is it over, is it over, TIARA PARKER: The sparks

:23:45. > :23:53.stopped and this was really Patience and Tiara's friend,

:23:54. > :24:05.Akyra, is barely alive. TIARA PARKER: I pulled

:24:06. > :24:09.Akyra by her clothes onto my lap and I said,

:24:10. > :24:12."Akyra, get up, get up right now, get up, they're here,

:24:13. > :24:16.they're here, get up." And I was just like,
