:00:15. > :00:18.Welcome to Reporting Scotland. Tonight on your national news. Two

:00:18. > :00:20.coastguard stations are saved, but two others will be shut down.

:00:20. > :00:26.Campaigners in Shetland and Stornoway celebrate after the UK

:00:26. > :00:30.government rethinks its plans to overhaul the service. But bases on

:00:31. > :00:34.the Clyde and Forth will be closed by 2015. We're live in Gourock with

:00:34. > :00:44.reaction. Also coming up tonight: The new surgical technique which

:00:44. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:51.could spell the end for the stookie. It's the talk of the town. Find out

:00:51. > :01:01.what's getting tongues wagging in the capital. And we'll have the

:01:01. > :01:02.

:01:02. > :01:07.latest on how the Scots are faring as they tee off at the Open.

:01:07. > :01:11.Coastguard stations in Shetland and Stornoway have been saved from

:01:11. > :01:16.closure but stations on the Clyde and Forth are to close in line with

:01:16. > :01:21.the original Government proposals. This is what Scotland's coastguard

:01:21. > :01:28.cover looks like at the moment. Aberdeen was proposed to be kept as

:01:28. > :01:34.the only 24 hour station. Now Shetland, Stornoway and Aberdeen

:01:34. > :01:43.will be kept as 24 hour facilities. The new coastguard map of Scotland

:01:43. > :01:50.will look like this. This man probably owes his lives -- his life

:01:50. > :01:55.to the coastguard in Shetland. When his boat grounded on the rocks the

:01:56. > :02:01.helicopter was quickly on the scene. Water was already covering the deck,

:02:01. > :02:09.the crew had to hold on to stop them slipping into the sea. One by

:02:09. > :02:13.one they were airlifted to safety. Became an save their lives. In a

:02:13. > :02:23.controversial plans by the coalition Government to have

:02:23. > :02:26.Aberdeen as Scotland's or only 24 hour station have been abandoned.

:02:26. > :02:32.In the Scottish islands and between the islands and the Scottish

:02:32. > :02:38.mainland we have decided to retain coastguard centres in boss

:02:38. > :02:44.Stornoway and Shetland. It is a victory for campaigners from both

:02:44. > :02:48.communities who jointly fought to keep them open. In Stornoway

:02:48. > :02:56.islanders marched through the streets in protest. We are

:02:56. > :03:02.delighted by these new proposals. This is what we campaigned for her.

:03:02. > :03:06.While there are real celebrations here in the north of Scotland,

:03:06. > :03:13.there is bitter disappointment in the south. Off Clyde Danforth

:03:13. > :03:21.coastguard stations are to close. Clyde is Scotland's busiest rescue

:03:21. > :03:27.centre. In future rescues there might be dealt with by coastguards

:03:28. > :03:33.from across the Irish Sea in Belfast. Scotland has a unique

:03:33. > :03:40.topography. Its islands and sea lochs makes communications

:03:41. > :03:44.difficult. Local knowledge is paramount. For this Shetland

:03:44. > :03:52.skipper it is a comfort to to know that local coastguards and local

:03:52. > :03:57.knowledge will be there on call if he needs them again. So, a relief

:03:57. > :04:02.in Shetland and Stornoway but let's go now to do it, home of the Clyde

:04:02. > :04:12.coastguard which did not win a reprieve. How are they taking it

:04:12. > :04:18.

:04:18. > :04:24.there? Lorna, do you hear me? shop in the community here on the

:04:24. > :04:34.Clyde. They had been hoping against talk that perhaps they would get a

:04:34. > :04:36.

:04:36. > :04:42.reprieve as well but it was not to be. Sorry, Lorna, we will try to

:04:42. > :04:48.get back to you later. We are having problems with that link to

:04:48. > :04:52.law now endure it. Let's move on. Scotland's transport infrastructure

:04:52. > :05:00.is holding back the tourism industry according to tourism

:05:00. > :05:10.leaders. Visitors are still finding it too difficult to get to where

:05:10. > :05:12.

:05:12. > :05:16.they want to be. Our reporter is on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.

:05:16. > :05:20.Edinburgh and Glasgow have got Provan pulling power when it comes

:05:21. > :05:25.to attracting visitors. It is spreading the was tourists out

:05:25. > :05:32.across the rest of the country is what to do his bosses say needs to

:05:32. > :05:42.be addressed. Over the last week Scotland has hosted events which

:05:42. > :05:46.have attracted hundreds of thousands of people. The big events

:05:46. > :05:51.have all contributed to an increase in the number of visitors and

:05:51. > :05:55.rising optimism in the tourism sector of the last three months.

:05:55. > :05:59.Best bus company in Edinburgh takes tourists are all of which the

:05:59. > :06:09.country fills up thank you very much Bill's dog it was a pleasure

:06:09. > :06:14.

:06:14. > :06:19.meeting year. We have enjoyed many places. We have enjoyed several

:06:19. > :06:23.good years in a row or and this one is shaping up to be another good

:06:23. > :06:27.one. The suspicion is that in the future that growth will not be

:06:27. > :06:35.sustainable if there is not the infrastructure in place. That is a

:06:35. > :06:37.concern shared by many tourism businesses. It is clear that the

:06:37. > :06:41.Scottish Executive and Scottish Government over the years have done

:06:41. > :06:46.very well in terms of investment. We need to continue to prioritise

:06:47. > :06:51.investment if we are to make sure Scotland gets the best deal.

:06:51. > :07:01.Business leaders have identified a list of routes they would like to

:07:01. > :07:08.

:07:08. > :07:18.At a cost of 1.5 billion for the Forth crossing the danger is money

:07:18. > :07:22.

:07:22. > :07:28.for other transport projects will The wishes of the tourism industry

:07:28. > :07:33.will be added to all the other demands on a shrinking pot of money.

:07:33. > :07:38.Now never mind the extra money needed to improve our road, rail or

:07:38. > :07:45.area network, it is the State of our current roads that Adur really

:07:45. > :07:49.concerning the bus companies. One of the most scenic routes between

:07:49. > :07:52.Aberfoyle and Loch Lomond is in such a bad State of repair already

:07:52. > :08:02.that they are considering pulling their buses because of safety

:08:02. > :08:03.

:08:03. > :08:08.concerns. A 300 million plan to create a world-class business up

:08:08. > :08:13.near Edinburgh airport has been unveiled. There would be a

:08:13. > :08:20.conference arena and business space built on land near the RBS

:08:20. > :08:26.headquarters. Firefighters and police are currently attending a

:08:26. > :08:29.serious fire at a block of flats in Hellington Renfrewshire.

:08:29. > :08:34.Unconfirmed reports suggest one person has been killed and a number

:08:34. > :08:44.of others are trapped by the fire. Traffic is disrupted in the

:08:44. > :08:49.

:08:49. > :08:56.surrounding area. As the funeral takes place of a farm or find with

:08:56. > :09:02.head injuries over a year ago takes place his widow appeals for

:09:02. > :09:06.information. And we will have the latest on the Scots inaction in the

:09:06. > :09:13.Open golf and it is a case of down but not out for Dundee United as

:09:13. > :09:17.they begin their Europa League adventure in Poland. Could the days

:09:17. > :09:20.of the stookie be numbered? A Scottish surgeon has come up with a

:09:20. > :09:23.new technique which could spell the end of the plaster cast for certain

:09:23. > :09:26.kinds of injuries. Instead of holding the joint with an external

:09:26. > :09:36.brace, a tiny support would be inserted into the bone. Our health

:09:36. > :09:41.

:09:41. > :09:50.correspondent has more. This Scottish figure skating duo wear in

:09:50. > :09:55.the last Olympics but earlier this year disaster struck. He did a left

:09:55. > :10:01.and we fell. My shoulder was forced all one way and my arm the others

:10:01. > :10:06.saw it was a complete dislocation. Plenty of other sports men and

:10:06. > :10:12.women have had to spend weeks or months struck up as injuries

:10:13. > :10:17.recover. This is the foot of a young footballer who has the same

:10:17. > :10:26.kind of injury. This is then just a few weeks after surgery and no

:10:26. > :10:30.plaster-cast in sight. Asked Dickie is extremely unpleasant and when it

:10:30. > :10:36.comes off the foot tends to be festering within and your muscles

:10:36. > :10:42.have wasted to nothing. Anything that can maintain joint function

:10:42. > :10:46.and movement is beneficial. Using keyhole surgery, special tape is

:10:46. > :10:52.fixed at the side of the damaged joint which acts as a brace,

:10:52. > :11:01.holding the torn ligaments in place. This means the joint can move while

:11:01. > :11:09.in the body are recovers. The result is a recovery that takes

:11:09. > :11:14.weeks rather than months. This woman is already training to skate

:11:14. > :11:20.in Japan and his Foye will be playing football in August. The

:11:20. > :11:24.technique is still in development. It is not widely available. Most of

:11:24. > :11:33.us will continue to need one of these but one day spending weeks in

:11:33. > :11:37.plaster may be a thing of the past. Some of the other stories: Police

:11:37. > :11:44.are not pursuing charges against a woman who took her paralysed son to

:11:44. > :11:48.a controversial Swiss clinic to take his on life. Helen Curry told

:11:48. > :11:53.how she took her 33-year-old son Robert to the Dignitas clinic after

:11:53. > :12:03.he was left paralysed from the neck down. A police woman has been found

:12:03. > :12:07.guilty of attempting to prevent the course of justice. She found a

:12:07. > :12:13.suspect outside a Chinese restaurant around half past 51

:12:13. > :12:21.morning last July and could not be bothered it to arrest them the herd.

:12:21. > :12:30.Rangers will give their team the full backing to cutting out

:12:30. > :12:33.Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of an Aberdeenshire

:12:33. > :12:37.farmer who died in mysterious circumstances. 80-year-old Sandy

:12:37. > :12:41.Ingram was found with serious head injuries just over a year ago. Two

:12:42. > :12:44.intruders had been spotted in the grounds of his remote farmhouse.

:12:45. > :12:52.Now his widow has appealed for them to come forward. Colin Wight

:12:52. > :12:57.reports. Sandy Ingram was a popular former.

:12:57. > :13:02.Many friends and family gathered at the parish church to celebrate his

:13:02. > :13:07.life. This is he had spent the last year. And a hospital bed, unable to

:13:07. > :13:13.talk or explain what had happened. He died last month. Police had been

:13:13. > :13:17.called to his remote farmhouse on June 19th last year. He was found

:13:17. > :13:22.with serious head injuries after going to investigate the siting of

:13:22. > :13:29.two men in the grounds. Since he died, we would like to know what

:13:29. > :13:39.happened. If anybody, these two people, could come forward and tell

:13:39. > :13:39.

:13:39. > :13:43.us, it would be a big relief just to know what happened. Sandy

:13:43. > :13:51.Ingram's White said her husband was a happy and jolly man who loved his

:13:51. > :13:55.life. She had taken part in over 180 Highland Games. At this

:13:55. > :13:59.afternoon Mrs Ingram said goodbye to her husband but not to the

:13:59. > :14:05.thoughts that hot her daily. For it is very difficult, the thought that

:14:05. > :14:11.he has suffered this last year. We hope to move on. It has been very

:14:11. > :14:17.difficult this past year. We have to look to the future without him.

:14:17. > :14:20.It is just hard. Hundreds have gathered here today to celebrate

:14:20. > :14:24.the life of Sandy Ingram, but his death remains a mystery. Until

:14:24. > :14:29.someone comes forward with an answer, it will be hard for his

:14:29. > :14:32.family to find peace. An investigation is underway into a

:14:32. > :14:35.gas leak at the St Fergus terminal near Peterhead. Workers were called

:14:35. > :14:38.to muster this afternoon, and all non-essential personnel sent home

:14:38. > :14:43.for the rest of the day. Fire fighters and police were called to

:14:43. > :14:45.the plant but were stood down shortly after. Operators Total said

:14:45. > :14:50.the section of the terminal affected by the leak was

:14:50. > :14:56.immediately shut down and depressurised.

:14:56. > :14:58.Now, have a look at these. They are examples of guerrilla art work

:14:58. > :15:01.which mysteriously appeared in Edinburgh city centre overnight.

:15:01. > :15:04.The public seem to like them, but as Gavin Walker reports, the local

:15:04. > :15:14.council cannot seem to make its mind up whether to praise them or

:15:14. > :15:16.

:15:16. > :15:20.erase them. It is a man! Maybe it's Jesus!

:15:20. > :15:26.are the top of the town in Edinburgh. It is very impressive.

:15:26. > :15:32.Do you know who it is? It is stunning, very good. I think it is

:15:32. > :15:37.very good. A series of around 50 giant posters has popped up around

:15:37. > :15:42.the city centre. Facial images of local people so precise. But the

:15:42. > :15:48.artist did not ask permission to put them all up. If you take a

:15:48. > :15:52.profile picture of yourself and place it in the streets. It seems

:15:52. > :15:57.the local council cannot decide whether to talk them up or rip them

:15:57. > :16:01.down. This issue -- his image on the stair is a health and safety

:16:01. > :16:06.risk. But they have appeared over 90 and it has been the top of the

:16:06. > :16:10.city. Wheelie did here as long as we possibly can but the he said

:16:10. > :16:14.there is akin to wallpaper pester and the danger is if it rains the

:16:14. > :16:19.paste will run. The council said the efforts will be made to keep

:16:19. > :16:23.faith none a risky posters up for as long as possible. But just five

:16:23. > :16:28.minutes down the road, this. And apparently an order dating from

:16:28. > :16:33.this morning to take them all down. What in the last hour, the council

:16:33. > :16:37.says that was a mistake. It is the postures can stay as long as they

:16:38. > :16:41.are causing no public risk. The owners of the Sunday Mail are

:16:41. > :16:44.to print an extra 250,000 copies this weekend as part of a drive to

:16:44. > :16:52.pick up News of the World readers. News International shut down the

:16:52. > :16:54.title last week after the phone- hacking scandal broke. The Mail is

:16:54. > :17:00.already Scotland's best-selling Sunday paper.

:17:00. > :17:07.Let's have a look at the sport in detail now. Here's Jonathan.

:17:07. > :17:11.The 140th Open Championship is underway. And while the Scots have

:17:11. > :17:14.not quite been able to live with the pace of early leader Thomas

:17:14. > :17:23.Bjorn at five under par, a few of them do remain within touching

:17:23. > :17:28.distance. Tee-off time for it Scotland's

:17:28. > :17:32.highest-ranking golfer. He shared the lead for two under par. But

:17:32. > :17:41.what they knowing what went wrong, he finished with a first round of

:17:41. > :17:46.72, two over par. I was happy and playing well and that is this Gulf

:17:46. > :17:52.course. I did not do much different on the back and finished two over.

:17:52. > :18:02.A steady round of 70 sort Stephen Gallagher finish level par. It was

:18:02. > :18:03.

:18:03. > :18:07.good. I hit a lot of good putts and that is all that you can ask for.

:18:07. > :18:12.The Scots were not making wallies of themselves and will there was

:18:12. > :18:21.nothing quite as spectacular as dust and Johnson's hole in one,

:18:21. > :18:26.overall they were doing OK. wind come down quite a lot and I

:18:26. > :18:31.was looking to pick up a couple coming in. I dropped one down at

:18:32. > :18:39.last but it was not as great finish. Just being here is phenomenal and

:18:39. > :18:42.if I can pay -- play well tomorrow. Plenty to keep an eye on over the

:18:42. > :18:45.next few days. Boxing, and Ricky Burns is gearing

:18:45. > :18:48.up for his latest world super- featherweight title defence. The

:18:48. > :18:51.Scot arrived in Liverpool earlier today ahead of facing Englishman

:18:51. > :18:59.Nicky Cook in the city on Saturday. Burn will be aiming to successfully

:18:59. > :19:03.defend his crown for the third time. Nothing has changed since I have

:19:03. > :19:08.won the title. I would not read any of my opponents differently. We are

:19:08. > :19:13.trained for a hard 12 rounds if it goes that. I have said that before

:19:13. > :19:18.it he wants to have a boxing match, then so be it. If he wants to go

:19:18. > :19:21.toe-to-toe, then I will meet him in the centre of that ring.

:19:21. > :19:26.To football now and Dundee United were in Europa League action this

:19:26. > :19:29.afternoon in Poland. Facing Slask Wroclaw in their second-round

:19:29. > :19:31.qualifier first leg, United spurned a great chance to break the

:19:31. > :19:36.deadlock through David Goodwillie. Despite looking like securing a

:19:36. > :19:39.goalless draw, United conceded this late goal by Johan Voskamp. The

:19:39. > :19:42.Poles won the match 1-0. The return leg will be played at Tannadice

:19:42. > :19:46.next Thursday. The Hearts manager Jim Jefferies

:19:46. > :19:52.says he is glad the Craig Thomson saga has been resolved and he can

:19:52. > :19:55.now focus on the start of the season. Hearts were training minus

:19:55. > :19:58.Thomson, who has been told he will not play for the club again after

:19:59. > :20:07.being placed on the Sex Offenders Register. It is after he pled

:20:07. > :20:10.guilty to inappropriate conduct towards two under age girls. And

:20:10. > :20:14.Jefferies says he is content that a line has been drawn under the

:20:14. > :20:17.affair. It has been put to bed now and it is over. We now need to

:20:17. > :20:20.concentrate on making sure that we can get one or two of the injuries

:20:20. > :20:26.cleared up in time to give us the options for the first game of the

:20:26. > :20:29.season. There was a bit of a Doctor Who

:20:29. > :20:32.moment in Renfrew today, when the contents of a time capsule were

:20:32. > :20:35.revealed. It had been hidden away nearly 140 years ago, and was only

:20:35. > :20:38.discovered during a restoration project. It is hoped the contents

:20:38. > :20:45.will give fresh insights into the area's history. Sally McNair has

:20:45. > :20:50.more. 1872 saw the grand opening of

:20:50. > :20:55.Renfrew town hall. Behind the stonework in the Clock Tower,

:20:55. > :21:01.workmen head away at last a bell jar with treasures of the time. But

:21:01. > :21:05.survived a fire and nearly one and half centuries -- 150 years, before

:21:05. > :21:10.construction workers found it. was a great surprise. They are

:21:10. > :21:14.usually found down in the ground, so to find it where it was was a

:21:14. > :21:22.great surprise. Curators will spend the next few months restoring the

:21:22. > :21:27.unique collection of objects and documents. We have a gold sovereign,

:21:27. > :21:31.what I suspect will be their most expensive object in there. It is

:21:31. > :21:38.almost in mint condition. We discovered that there was in fact

:21:38. > :21:42.at cattle trade and of the time who had 190 stolen from them, which is

:21:42. > :21:48.a huge amount of money at that time in a House of ill repute in Paisley.

:21:48. > :21:55.Paisley, I have distress, not in Renfrew, where he was from.

:21:55. > :22:00.collection will be displayed in the refurbished museum. Locals were

:22:00. > :22:10.tired and will work on the 21st century time capsule which will be

:22:10. > :22:13.

:22:13. > :22:17.budded and that town hall. -- Bhatti it. -- buried. Now the

:22:17. > :22:23.question is what the children will put in it, will it be mobile phones

:22:23. > :22:33.or will it be things that stand the test of time?

:22:33. > :22:35.

:22:36. > :22:41.A pleasant day across many parts of the country. This evening, some

:22:41. > :22:47.late sunshine for some of us into a dry night. Here is the map from 7pm.

:22:47. > :22:51.You can see the club that we saw bubbling up. A cloudy night and a

:22:51. > :22:59.dry night and a mild night. Temperatures in Arab towns and

:22:59. > :23:04.cities no lower than ten Celsius. - - temperatures in our towns. We

:23:04. > :23:10.have a weather front running from the north to the south. If you are

:23:10. > :23:14.east of it, try and find conditions for longer. West of that, cloud

:23:14. > :23:24.will build over the morning tomorrow. Following the cloud will

:23:24. > :23:24.

:23:24. > :23:31.be rain. By the time we reach around mid-afternoon tomorrow, we

:23:31. > :23:38.haven't East West spot. -- we have a split between the east and the

:23:38. > :23:44.West. Further west, where the rain is, the winds will also be

:23:44. > :23:48.strengthening. The rest of the afternoon and into the evening,

:23:48. > :23:53.that in will continue to make its way from the west to east, featured
