:00:23. > :00:27.Good evening. As senior Catholic bishop is to

:00:27. > :00:30.meet Alex Salmond after raising concerns about the government's

:00:30. > :00:34.policies on the marriage and sectarianism.

:00:34. > :00:38.A 60 ft whale stranded on a beach in the Western Isles dies and the

:00:38. > :00:46.question is how to remove it. Fuel bills continued to rise and

:00:46. > :00:50.there is a warning that full-time carers will be badly hit. We have

:00:50. > :00:57.lost her discount because I had moved in with her and I was under

:00:57. > :01:01.65. I was penalised for having an illness.

:01:01. > :01:09.Later in the programme and - six year-old Jack Henderson is an

:01:09. > :01:13.internet sensation with his art. The First Minister is to meet the

:01:13. > :01:17.Catholic Bishop of Paisley after the bishop warned him of a serious

:01:18. > :01:22.chill in relations between the SNP government back and the Catholic

:01:22. > :01:28.Church. In a strongly-worded letter to Alex Salmond bishop Philip

:01:28. > :01:34.Tartalia or condemned the Scottish Government for not issuing figures

:01:34. > :01:37.on sectarian attacks and expressed dismay at policies on same-sex

:01:37. > :01:40.marriage. In the years since the Pope came to

:01:41. > :01:45.Scotland the close links between the Catholic Church and SNP

:01:45. > :01:49.administration have become increasingly strained. Now in a

:01:49. > :01:53.letter to the First Minister the Bishop of Paisley warned of a

:01:53. > :01:59.serious chill in relations between that the Catholic Church and the

:01:59. > :02:03.Scottish Government. He says the Catholic Church is dismayed at

:02:03. > :02:09.allowing Deep couples to marry. And he says that new laws on bigotry

:02:09. > :02:17.are a distraction from their real cause of sectarianism. The bishop

:02:17. > :02:21.says that many Catholics have support at his intervention. It is

:02:21. > :02:28.the duty of the bishops and priests to uphold the teaching of the

:02:28. > :02:34.Church. That is what a Catholic is. Might just keeps me right with that.

:02:34. > :02:39.I will stick with the wrong. you worried about a serious chill

:02:39. > :02:44.in relations with the Catholic Church? I have got very public -- I

:02:44. > :02:47.have got very good relations. you fall out?

:02:47. > :02:51.The government was sufficiently concerned for the First Minister to

:02:51. > :02:57.speak to the bishop on the phone last night and to agree to meet him

:02:57. > :03:01.to discuss his concerns on Friday. Those who support same-sex marriage

:03:01. > :03:05.are urging Alex Salmond not to make concessions to the Catholic Church.

:03:06. > :03:10.Of course there are controversy is that we must remember that

:03:10. > :03:14.Parliament is the secular authority. It makes the law of the land. It

:03:14. > :03:20.does not impose one religious of value for another of people who do

:03:20. > :03:25.not subscribe to religion. Government says it has an almost

:03:25. > :03:30.different of -- a difference of opinion. Ministers do hope to win

:03:30. > :03:35.him round on a new laws designed to tackle football bigotry.

:03:35. > :03:38.Our reporter is at Holyrood. Neither the Scottish Government nor

:03:38. > :03:43.the Catholic Church would speak today. Is there any likelihood that

:03:43. > :03:48.either body will change their views before Friday.

:03:48. > :03:51.When it the First Minister knees with the bishop on Friday he will

:03:51. > :03:55.say that the Government is consulting on the issue of same-sex

:03:56. > :03:59.marriage and no final decisions have been taken. If legislation is

:03:59. > :04:03.passed through Holyrood to make it possible for gay couples to marry,

:04:04. > :04:08.the Government will not force any particular religion or indeed any

:04:09. > :04:14.minister or priest to carry out those services. I do not think that

:04:14. > :04:18.that will satisfy the Catholic Church, but on the issue of the

:04:18. > :04:22.anti- bigotry legislation, the First Minister has got the Lord

:04:22. > :04:27.Advocate involved in his meeting. He hopes that the Lord Advocate

:04:27. > :04:31.will be able to persuade the bishop that the legislation designed to

:04:31. > :04:37.bring in tougher penalties for those who peddle sectarianism

:04:37. > :04:41.around football will get the support of the bishop.

:04:41. > :04:46.Staying with that story, another three Church of Scotland ministers

:04:46. > :04:51.in the West Highlands are leaving over the issue of gay clergy. The

:04:51. > :04:56.ministers made their announcement at a meeting of the Skye and

:04:56. > :05:06.Lochalsh Presbytery. A final decision on the clergy will not be

:05:06. > :05:07.

:05:07. > :05:13.made until 2013. Still to come - I am on that the

:05:13. > :05:17.red carpet where the stars and the crowds are gathering of four or

:05:17. > :05:23.this year's 2011 Mobo Awards. And in sport another blow for

:05:23. > :05:29.Scotland ahead of their Euro 2012 qualifiers. More on that later. And

:05:29. > :05:37.also why there is an instruction not to boo the liked his style

:05:37. > :05:41.national anthem. Rising fuel bills, warns the

:05:41. > :05:51.Scottish government, could lead to one million homes suffering from a

:05:51. > :05:51.

:05:51. > :05:57.fuel poverty. Fuel poverty is defined as requiring 10 % of

:05:57. > :06:03.household income to pay fuel bills. Gas and electricity bills have just

:06:03. > :06:10.gone up again. The amount is actually quite staggering. In 2006

:06:10. > :06:15.the average gas and electricity bill was 689. Now the average is

:06:15. > :06:20.1,294. The cost has almost doubled in the past five years. It is

:06:20. > :06:26.difficult for us all to beat those increasing costs, but people on a

:06:26. > :06:31.fixed income such as carers on benefits are feeling the pressure.

:06:31. > :06:37.Shall I put on at the kettle? man has lived with his mother for

:06:37. > :06:41.the past four years. His mother has dementia. Her son of

:06:41. > :06:47.a mood that codes to care for her full-time. His income is littered

:06:47. > :06:55.to benefits. Fuel bills are costing them dear. If I look at it it is

:06:55. > :07:04.the biggest bill that I have as accurate. How much is it? It is

:07:04. > :07:08.148 per month. That is 40 % of my monthly cavers allowance.

:07:08. > :07:13.Before he moved in with his mother she got a rebate on their

:07:13. > :07:20.electricity company. My mother lost her discount because I had moved in

:07:20. > :07:27.with her. I was under 65. My mother was penalised for having an illness

:07:27. > :07:30.that she needs for care for. Scottish Government is supporting

:07:30. > :07:34.7,000 years by expanding its energy assistance package. They say it

:07:34. > :07:40.will go some way towards helping to reduce heating bills, but across

:07:40. > :07:48.Scotland it is estimated that up to one million households at either

:07:48. > :07:53.end, or are close to, living in it fuel poverty. 40 % of the Scottish

:07:53. > :07:59.population Arab living in it, or her in a danger of living in, fuel

:07:59. > :08:03.poverty. We have got to look at the big picture. We understand that the

:08:03. > :08:08.Government is attending to help as many people as possible. I have to

:08:08. > :08:13.keep the heating on in every room for 24 hours during the winter

:08:13. > :08:19.because my mother has a tendency to wander. After the winter last year

:08:19. > :08:23.it is a big concern. This afternoon the Scottish Government announced a

:08:23. > :08:26.further 5 million to tackle fuel poverty. The money will pay for

:08:26. > :08:30.insulation and heating systems for some of the most vulnerable people

:08:30. > :08:35.in the country. But with a harsh winter predicted there are concerns

:08:35. > :08:42.about how much help will be needed across the country.

:08:42. > :08:48.A massive wheel which beach itself in South Uist has died. Villagers

:08:48. > :08:58.are abandoned their attempt to save the mammal last night. Now the

:08:58. > :09:05.

:09:05. > :09:10.question is how and to dispose of -- how to dispose of it.

:09:10. > :09:17.Apologies. Clearly no sound on that report. We shall try to sort that

:09:17. > :09:21.later. Police have confirmed they are

:09:21. > :09:29.investigating claims of sectarian singing and dance fans at last

:09:29. > :09:33.weekend's football match between Celtic and Heart of Midlothian.

:09:33. > :09:38.Take a look at these pictures behind me. They might not look a

:09:38. > :09:42.valuable, but they are worth a lot to the children at Edinburgh at

:09:42. > :09:46.Sick kids' hospital. Six year-old Jack Henderson started raising

:09:46. > :09:54.money for the hospital for by selling his pictures. Now he has

:09:54. > :10:00.raised almost 30,000. A book of his drawings has been published.

:10:00. > :10:06.Six months on Jack Henderson has done so many drawings he can hardly

:10:06. > :10:13.carry them. 490 commissions are completed. He has raised nearly

:10:13. > :10:18.30,000. That is me. That is any good. It is nothing like we

:10:18. > :10:23.expected. We thought that the picture requests would stop.

:10:23. > :10:29.did not. Anything but. It began when it Jack Henderson's younger

:10:29. > :10:33.brother became ill. He had to go for treatment to the Sick kids'

:10:33. > :10:40.hospital in Edinburgh. It is then that Jack Henderson had his great

:10:40. > :10:47.idea. He would sell joins to raise money. He only expected handful of

:10:47. > :10:54.commissions. But his website has had in visitors from 160 countries

:10:54. > :11:00.around the globe. He has appeared in newspapers in Brazil and Taiwan.

:11:00. > :11:07.When you see a picture on up a website or a newspaper in another

:11:07. > :11:13.language it makes it even more crazy. For all of the family it has

:11:14. > :11:21.been in a remarkable journey. The last six months it has felt

:11:21. > :11:29.like hour whole life has been amazing. But it will be nice to go

:11:29. > :11:35.back to being the five of us, normal in the nicest way.

:11:35. > :11:45.433 drawings here. What is your favourite one? The bumblebees.

:11:45. > :11:50.many sets of pence had you use? many? An awful lot. Especially when

:11:50. > :11:57.you leave the lead off. Thank you everybody that donated to me.

:11:57. > :12:07.Goodbye. It is hoped that the new book will

:12:07. > :12:08.

:12:08. > :12:15.raise more money for the Sick kids' hospital.

:12:15. > :12:21.Now we can go back to that story on the wheel in the South Uist.

:12:21. > :12:26.-- their wheel. It is the second largest type of

:12:26. > :12:30.whale in that the world. It reality only heightened the desperation of

:12:30. > :12:36.rescuers to keep the mammal alive in the hope it could be assured

:12:36. > :12:46.back to deep water. For the rest of tonight we will carry out a post-

:12:46. > :12:47.

:12:47. > :12:56.mortem. We will try to determine if there was anything wrong with it.

:12:56. > :13:03.We will check its organs. It is a learning curve. Then we will know

:13:03. > :13:09.more about this type of Wales. rescue bid was an unlikely to

:13:09. > :13:12.succeed because when and mammals such as this is beached, its own

:13:12. > :13:16.body weight starts to crush its internal organs.

:13:16. > :13:21.Now tests are being carried out to try and work out why it came to

:13:21. > :13:27.shore. And now the council must try to get

:13:27. > :13:33.rid of it. The carcass may wash back out to sea again. If the local

:13:33. > :13:38.council can get in with machinery, then the mammal could be cut into

:13:38. > :13:43.pieces and taken away and possibly buried in landfill, but it is a

:13:43. > :13:50.real headache. There was a famously bungled

:13:50. > :13:56.American incident which led to blubber being showered over a large

:13:56. > :14:01.period -- and large area. That is unlikely to be repeated.

:14:01. > :14:05.A teenager has been sentenced to 15 years for murdering a young mother

:14:05. > :14:10.of two in a knife attack after a row about garlic bread.

:14:10. > :14:16.Jamie Ellis admitted stabbing the victim more than 30 times while

:14:16. > :14:22.high on Valium and cannabis. Two of the unions representing

:14:22. > :14:27.ambulance workers have agreed a temporary deal between staff and

:14:27. > :14:31.management. Staff on meal breaks will earn a 100 every time they

:14:31. > :14:38.are called out on a meal break. This is a temporary measure until

:14:38. > :14:45.December. A woman died last year because of -- after an ambulance

:14:45. > :14:48.worker did not respond because they were on a rest period.

:14:48. > :14:54.They Health and Safety Executive ordered changes to be made to

:14:54. > :15:04.accommodation on board Talisman's Tartan Alpha. It said there is a

:15:04. > :15:05.

:15:05. > :15:10.shortage of shower and toilet Alesha Dixon, Jessie J have arrived

:15:10. > :15:15.for the MOBO Awards. It celebrates the Music Of Black Origin. It was

:15:15. > :15:25.staged here two years ago. It will be watched by a quarter of a

:15:25. > :15:25.

:15:25. > :15:28.million people around the world and by thousands of fans at the SECC.

:15:28. > :15:34.Our Correspondent is on the red carpet.

:15:34. > :15:43.Excitement is building here on the red carpet. They are gathering for

:15:43. > :15:49.the artists that they want to see here tonight. J L S, Jessie J, are

:15:49. > :15:56.waiting to arrive. Also, a gale from Aberdeen, Emily Sandy, who two

:15:56. > :16:01.years ago was a backing singer. Tonight, she is back on the main

:16:01. > :16:05.stage, she has a new single, a record deal and she is up for Best

:16:05. > :16:10.Newcomer. Last year I was here at the MOBO

:16:10. > :16:15.Awards as a spectator watching all my friends pick up awards. Now it

:16:15. > :16:25.is nice to be finally here, to be finally nominated and to have won

:16:25. > :16:28.

:16:28. > :16:36.Tinie Tempah, picking up his mobile award last year. His musical career

:16:36. > :16:41.has taken off in the last two years. That is the point of these awards.

:16:41. > :16:46.What I am excited about is to see the newcomers that are either in

:16:46. > :16:50.the audience, watching the show, then later you see them performing.

:16:50. > :16:55.It is fantastic to follow their journey. It has been quite a

:16:55. > :17:01.journey for Amelie Sandy. Two years ago, she was a medical student at

:17:01. > :17:09.Glasgow University and writing and singing and her spare time. Now she

:17:09. > :17:16.has a record deal. She is up for Best Newcomer at tonight's awards.

:17:16. > :17:22.Anything can happen within a year. I feel what I have experienced has

:17:22. > :17:26.proven that. You never know. Work hard and you might be why you want

:17:26. > :17:31.to be. You might go up from the audience to winning in a couple of

:17:31. > :17:36.years. Win or lose, Emily says she is looking forward to a great night

:17:36. > :17:40.out, along with thousands of Scottish music fans.

:17:41. > :17:45.Those thousands of fans will be going in shortly. The show begins

:17:45. > :17:52.in just under an away as time and it will be watched on television by

:17:52. > :17:57.an estimated quarter of a billion people around the world.

:17:57. > :18:01.Now the sport round-up. It seems like another day and

:18:01. > :18:04.another blow for Scotland as the European qualifying double-header

:18:04. > :18:10.approaches. Captain Darren Fletcher has been ruled out of Saturday's

:18:10. > :18:13.game against Liechtenstein with tonsilitis. The midfielder, seen

:18:13. > :18:20.here scoring against the Czech Republic, could make the Spain

:18:20. > :18:24.match next week. However, Robert Snodgrass is out and has been

:18:24. > :18:29.replaced by a James MacArthur. Staying with those qualifiers,

:18:29. > :18:34.Scotland's supporters are being asked not to boo the national

:18:34. > :18:38.anthem of Lichtenstein. It happened when they played at Hampden in the

:18:38. > :18:42.qualifiers last year. If it happens again, the Scottish FA could be

:18:42. > :18:48.fined by European football's governing body for breaking the

:18:48. > :18:58.rules on fair play. Underneath the jeering, you might

:18:58. > :19:02.

:19:02. > :19:07.just hear their Lichtenstein national anthem. The same tune as

:19:07. > :19:13.the national anthem. That is why it was booed.

:19:13. > :19:18.To boo or not to boo, that is the question facing the Tartan Army. I

:19:18. > :19:26.am going to use a social media network to find out what the public

:19:26. > :19:36.make of the requests not to gee-up the national anthem. He is a

:19:36. > :19:49.

:19:49. > :19:55.Scottish fans have worked for many years to get the reputation we have

:19:55. > :20:00.got. Nothing should be done to damage their reputation. Do you

:20:00. > :20:04.think the repetition could be damaged? Yes, by showing disrespect

:20:04. > :20:08.to the opposition. National anthems are there to be respected, no

:20:08. > :20:12.matter what country you are playing against. The Tartan Army are always

:20:12. > :20:20.in good voice when Flower of Scotland is played. The Scottish FA

:20:20. > :20:24.will want them to be less vociferous when the band strikes up

:20:24. > :20:28.Lichtenstein's National Anthem. Neil Lennon will turn things for

:20:28. > :20:32.the club it is said, only if players raise their game. Chris

:20:32. > :20:42.Sutton is to be his old team-mate to be a success, even though they

:20:42. > :20:46.

:20:46. > :20:53.have slipped behind Rangers by 10 A fan's favourite to score goals at

:20:53. > :20:57.a time when Celtic have reasons to be cheerful. Today he was back with

:20:57. > :21:03.his book, smiling for the cameras to promote his tales of Parkhead

:21:03. > :21:08.and beyond. His former team-mate has had few reasons to smile lately.

:21:08. > :21:12.He has got the character to come through. He will be asking the

:21:12. > :21:17.players to do things and they need to stand up and show they are

:21:17. > :21:23.capable of moving the team forward. Despite a growing gap, his message

:21:23. > :21:28.on Rangers is clear. There should be nothing to fear. I don't think

:21:28. > :21:35.Rangers are strong this season. They have had a fantastic start but

:21:35. > :21:41.they are fragile. If they lose a couple of players with injuries,

:21:41. > :21:44.they will go through a difficult time. No need for a new chapter

:21:44. > :21:48.just yet. Pittodrie, the home of Aberdeen

:21:48. > :21:51.Football Club for more than a century, has been put up for sale.

:21:51. > :21:56.Selling the old ground will help pay the 38 million needed for a

:21:56. > :22:06.new stadium on the outskirts of the city. The club says it is making

:22:06. > :22:09.progress in selling and -- for the naming rights for his new home.

:22:09. > :22:13.From one Currie to another, an Indian restaurant in Edinburgh has

:22:13. > :22:20.been criticised after his wills hottest chilli competition left it

:22:20. > :22:26.to people in hospital. -- World's hottest chilli.

:22:26. > :22:29.For it is rethinking the event after several competitors came ill.

:22:29. > :22:39.Edinburgh's restaurant prides itself on being the hottest curry

:22:39. > :22:45.

:22:45. > :22:52.house. It has become an internet Last weekend, they ran a charity

:22:52. > :23:00.weekend to find a curry king. Be to chilly was so hot, they had British

:23:00. > :23:04.Red Cross on standby. We have many things that go into it.

:23:05. > :23:09.A few items are sourced from South Africa. This American exchange

:23:09. > :23:14.student thought she liked to spicy food. She made it to the final but

:23:14. > :23:24.ended up in hospital, twice. never want to experience this pain

:23:24. > :23:25.

:23:25. > :23:31.again. It is like taking a chainsaw 360 degrees your ass of the guests.

:23:31. > :23:36.It spreads out in your torso. the Ambulance Service says the

:23:36. > :23:42.restaurant must rethink next year's menu. Daphne cool things down and

:23:42. > :23:49.have a fun event and probably more of an eating contest, rather than

:23:49. > :23:59.an endurance contest. -- definitely. Next year, it is more likely to be

:23:59. > :23:59.

:23:59. > :24:09.korma than vindaloo. Even that is a little too hot to handle for now.

:24:09. > :24:11.

:24:12. > :24:16.It was a gusty day across the We had some hurricane weather today.

:24:16. > :24:22.It was mild though. Things are set to turn cooler and overnight, we

:24:22. > :24:26.see showers across western areas. In the east, they may be dry with

:24:26. > :24:34.clear spells. This is the picture through this evening and overnight.

:24:34. > :24:40.Some clear expels across eastern areas. The Western Isles, we have

:24:40. > :24:46.showers. Some will be heavy and thundery as well. Temperatures down

:24:46. > :24:50.to five Celsius. Cooler than that last few nights. On to tomorrow, it

:24:50. > :24:55.is showers from the word go for Northern, western and south-western

:24:55. > :25:02.areas. For the east, we will have some shelter from the brisk wind.
