:00:17. > :00:20.Good evening. Much of Scotland has been battered by severe gales today.

:00:20. > :00:27.Ferris have been cancelled and many of the country's road bridges have

:00:27. > :00:32.been closed to high sided vehicles. Throughout the day, high-speed

:00:32. > :00:37.winds battered central and southern Scotland. This was the picture on

:00:37. > :00:47.the Ayrshire coast. Even seagulls struggled. Here's the view from our

:00:47. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:54.roof camera, when the winds were at their peak in Glasgow. Winds were

:00:54. > :00:59.reporteded at 160mph and a Gus of 87mph were reporteded on the road

:01:00. > :01:04.bridge. It's not in the league of the storm on 9th December when wind

:01:04. > :01:09.speeds reached 106mph. There is more of this weather to come.

:01:09. > :01:13.Looking at the outlook over the next week to ten days, I think it's

:01:13. > :01:17.a very similar pattern to what we have experienced recently. We can

:01:17. > :01:22.expect more cycles of windy weather with rain, particularly in the west,

:01:22. > :01:26.followed by colder weather behind. Ferris were cancelled, flights to

:01:26. > :01:33.the highland and islands disrupted. There were wind warnings and speed

:01:33. > :01:38.restrictions on all major bridges across the country. It's about

:01:38. > :01:43.3.30pm in the afternoon in the centre of Glasgow. It's gone high

:01:43. > :01:49.tide. The water here in the Clyde is very high this afternoon. We

:01:49. > :01:56.were told that between 3.00pm and 4.00pm the winds would reach their

:01:56. > :02:02.peak. It's 60mph here at the moment. Despite the storms in Edinburgh

:02:02. > :02:08.shoppers battled on. The fun fair was off in Glasgow. A few,000 homes

:02:08. > :02:13.in Argyll and the west are without power and the Motherwell and

:02:13. > :02:16.Dunfermline match is off. If you are in the north-east the winds are

:02:16. > :02:20.on your way tonight. Investigations are continuing into a house fire in

:02:20. > :02:23.Kilmarnock in which a nine-year-old boy died. Evan Mohammed and his two

:02:23. > :02:27.younger sisters were rescued from the house by firefighters. He lost

:02:27. > :02:34.his fight for life. His sisters are in a stable condition in hospital.

:02:34. > :02:37.His mother and older sister escaped injury. Police investigating the

:02:37. > :02:41.murder of 21-year-old Stephen Pollock will tonight be stopping

:02:41. > :02:45.and interviewing motorists and pedestrians a week on from his

:02:45. > :02:48.death. He died after being involved in an argument and then shot in

:02:48. > :02:54.Paisley last Wednesday night. Detectives say they are still

:02:54. > :02:56.trying to find a motive for his murder. Lawyers for the Ultimo

:02:56. > :03:01.lingerie tycoon, Michelle Mone, have confirmed that she and her

:03:01. > :03:04.husband Michael are to separate. The statement said the split was

:03:04. > :03:09.amicable and that no other party was involved. The couple will

:03:09. > :03:13.continue to work together in their business, MJM International. Singer

:03:13. > :03:18.songwriter Emeli Sande is toasting the most successful year of her

:03:18. > :03:22.career so far back home with her family in Aberdeenshire. The 24-

:03:22. > :03:31.year-old from Alford has had a whirlwind 12 months, including

:03:32. > :03:35.supporting Coldplay and wind winning a BRIT Award. Home for the

:03:35. > :03:40.holidays. Precious time with family after an extraordinary year. This

:03:40. > :03:44.year has been filled with things that I would have been amazed if

:03:44. > :03:47.one of these things would have happened this year. It's, kind of,

:03:47. > :03:52.next week something incredible happens. You get another piece of

:03:52. > :03:58.nues. -- news. It feels like a dream because you don't have a

:03:58. > :04:03.minute where you can stop and think about, "yeah, I did that", you

:04:03. > :04:10.know! Major chart success, a MOBO nomination, to top it all, a BRIT

:04:10. > :04:16.Award. To win the Critics' Choice is something I've always wanted.

:04:16. > :04:21.Last year I was at the Brits when Jesse J picked up her awards. Being

:04:21. > :04:26.here a year later is incredible. This is where it all began. The

:04:26. > :04:30.school choir, conducted by her dad. Even at 12 she impressed. I had

:04:30. > :04:37.asked her to sing a solo in the Christmas concert. Within a couple

:04:37. > :04:43.of bars of her singing the songs she had prepared, the hairs on the

:04:43. > :04:51.back of my neck stood up. I just thought, "wow, where does that

:04:51. > :04:55.voice come from". Her dad also saw something special. She puts in so

:04:55. > :05:01.much effort. You can see that she's actually putting in a lot of

:05:01. > :05:05.emotion in the thing. That is really there. It feels like a dream

:05:05. > :05:11.really. I always thought, wouldn't it be wonderful to switch on the

:05:11. > :05:18.radio and one of her songs on the radio. It has come true. With a new

:05:18. > :05:25.album coming out, toult is tipped to be even bigger for Emeli Sande.

:05:25. > :05:28.-- 2012. My wish for 2012 is that things continue to go well. That's

:05:28. > :05:32.it. Celtic host Rangers tonight at Park head in the Chris mald Old

:05:32. > :05:35.Firm derby. The man in charge of policing say that is an evening

:05:35. > :05:39.kickoff won't make any difference to the way they deal with it.

:05:39. > :05:43.can control the people who, perhaps, have taken alcohol who will try and

:05:43. > :05:48.get admittance to the game. We can arrest them trying to get into the

:05:48. > :05:52.match Wyles drunk or turn them away if we feel they have had too much

:05:52. > :05:56.to drink. When you have an afternoon kickoff it gives people

:05:56. > :06:02.who are hell bent on anti-social behaviour and alcohol-fuelled

:06:02. > :06:07.violence all day to drink. There is a balance we have to make. A short

:06:07. > :06:11.time ago our sports correspondent sent this report from Celtic Park.

:06:11. > :06:15.So much is made about what this fixture brings off the field,

:06:15. > :06:20.remember it's a huge game for both sides on the field this evening as

:06:20. > :06:26.well. For Celtic, a chance for them to go top of the SPL table. For the

:06:26. > :06:32.very first time this season. They are one point behind Rangers that

:06:32. > :06:38.is staggering to think that Rangers were 15 points clear. A huge turn

:06:38. > :06:42.around for Celtic. For Rangers, Lee McCullough is fit and available. He

:06:42. > :06:46.was sent off in the game against the weekend. Rangers are appealing

:06:46. > :06:50.that red card. Until that appeal is heard he is available. The bad news,

:06:51. > :06:55.perhaps, is their stuttering form. They lost that game to St Mirren at

:06:55. > :06:59.the weekend. They have been a little bit stodgeyi compared to

:06:59. > :07:03.Celtic who are looking for nine straight league wins in a row. The

:07:04. > :07:06.fans hoping for a great game of football. The blustery conditions,

:07:06. > :07:10.Scottish football hoping that all the talk after the game is about

:07:10. > :07:15.what happens on the field as opposed to what happens off it.

:07:15. > :07:18.will be not be the easest of nights to play football. Severe gale force

:07:18. > :07:23.to play football. Severe gale force winds today. What is in store

:07:23. > :07:33.tomorrow? Yes, very windy across the whole of the country today. The

:07:33. > :07:35.

:07:35. > :07:39.highest wind speed was 87mph on the Tai Bridge. Amber warning will

:07:39. > :07:43.expire in the next few hours as the winds pull away. All associated

:07:43. > :07:45.with a deep area of low pressure. That is off the north-east of the

:07:45. > :07:52.country at the moment. The winds are whipping around the centre of

:07:52. > :07:56.the low there. The 70mph risk will diminish over over the next few

:07:56. > :08:00.hours but will transfer up to the north-east during the small hours

:08:00. > :08:04.over night. In the west heavy showers in the east, clear dry,

:08:04. > :08:08.colder conditions. Lows to two or three degrees. Tomorrow, that low

:08:08. > :08:14.pressure that brought the high winds today is well away from us us

:08:14. > :08:17.pushing over to Scandinavia. The next feature working in from the

:08:17. > :08:23.Atlantic will introduce showers into western parts of the country

:08:23. > :08:27.to start the day tomorrow. The further east you are, dryer,

:08:27. > :08:34.brighter conditions. Through the morning dry weather will be around.

:08:34. > :08:37.Sunshine in between the clouds. A windy day still. Some of the shores

:08:37. > :08:42.showers wintry over the higher ground. Into the evening the winds

:08:42. > :08:46.will ease down. The showers will ease. In the east clear, cold night.

:08:46. > :08:56.Clear cold and crisp in the east on Friday. In the west showery with

:08:56. > :08:58.

:08:58. > :09:03.rain pushing in. For Hogmanay showers and clear spells. It will

:09:03. > :09:08.be breezy. For the day on Saturday the showers will be in western

:09:08. > :09:12.parts. The further east that you are, dryer and brighter. By day

:09:12. > :09:16.temperatures 10 or 11 degrees. Into the evening three or four. With a

:09:16. > :09:18.strong south-westerly breeze feeling cold by midnight. Tonight,
