:00:20. > :00:23.Tonight on Reporting Scotland: Just one question? Three-quarters of the
:00:23. > :00:27.people who got in touch with the UK Government about the independence
:00:27. > :00:34.referendum say they want a Yes-No vote on Scotland's future. But many
:00:34. > :00:40.responses came from a Labour party website.
:00:40. > :00:42.The deadline comes and goes for Rangers bids. There has also been a
:00:42. > :00:46.surprise one from the Continent. Total's Elgin platform's been
:00:46. > :00:53.leaking gas into the North Sea for ten days. Tonight, one of the last
:00:53. > :00:56.men to leave explains what happened. We trained for it regularly. We
:00:56. > :01:03.have drills every week. I never thought this would happen.
:01:03. > :01:07.Also tonight: The computer game that's good for some children.
:01:07. > :01:13.are going to put the goggles on again. Eye specialists in Glasgow
:01:13. > :01:16.find that playing games in these goggles can help treat "lazy eyes".
:01:16. > :01:18.Good evening. Most people who took part in the UK government's
:01:18. > :01:24.consultation on the independence referendum say Scots should be
:01:24. > :01:27.asked only one question - whether to stay in, or leave the union. The
:01:27. > :01:31.Scottish Secretary, Michael Moore, believes the SNP should now hold
:01:31. > :01:33.the vote as soon as possible. But the First Minister, Alex Salmond,
:01:33. > :01:37.claims the whole exercise is discredited after it emerged a
:01:37. > :01:45.quarter of replies were copied from a Labour party website. Our
:01:45. > :01:48.political correspondent, Raymond Buchanan joins me now.
:01:48. > :01:53.The UK government made their position clear even before the
:01:53. > :01:57.consultation exercise began. They support one question asked sooner
:01:57. > :02:02.rather than later. And, sticking to the current rules for voters, so
:02:02. > :02:07.that means over 18s only. After eight weeks of asking, these are
:02:07. > :02:11.the answers they say that they have been given. 75% said stick to a
:02:11. > :02:17.solitary question. 70% agreed it should be asked sooner rather than
:02:17. > :02:26.later, and of those who gave a view, 47% agreed the current voting age
:02:26. > :02:29.of 18 should be used. And surprisingly, the Scottish
:02:29. > :02:37.secretary is delighted most replies to his consultation seem to agree
:02:37. > :02:43.with his Government's position. A Trout Association, an ice-cream
:02:43. > :02:49.maker, and energy company, a meat supplier, all replied when asked
:02:49. > :02:54.about how the referendum should work. The various political signs -
:02:54. > :02:58.- sites are getting themselves back already. The Scottish Secretary was
:02:58. > :03:02.at RAF Lossiemouth today to meet personnel and celebrate so many
:03:02. > :03:06.consultation replies lining up on his side. Now we have got a result
:03:06. > :03:10.of our consultation, I meet -- want to meet with ministers to be
:03:10. > :03:14.cancelled at the process and get on with the big debate. That is what
:03:14. > :03:18.this should now be about. Quarter of the replies are used the exact
:03:18. > :03:22.same form of words found here on the Scottish Labour website. The
:03:22. > :03:28.party deny they were trying to unduly influenced the result.
:03:28. > :03:31.think the result are significant. The fact that three-quarters are
:03:31. > :03:39.saying one clear decision should be made in the referendum, that we
:03:39. > :03:42.have to get a move on, I think that does speak volumes. Sir, will Alex
:03:42. > :03:47.Salmond be tempted to abandon his referendum timetable, his
:03:47. > :03:53.consideration of a second question, and his plan to allow 16 and 17-
:03:53. > :03:56.year-olds to vote? A consultation exercise can get flooded by
:03:56. > :04:01.identical responses from the same website and that discredits it
:04:01. > :04:05.completely. But the SNP's own website has a similar form already
:04:05. > :04:09.filled in for their supporters to send to the Scottish government's
:04:09. > :04:15.consultation. Sir, What is the point of these exercises? These are
:04:15. > :04:19.people with an interest in the subject. They may have a degree of
:04:19. > :04:26.expertise and they give us an idea of the arguments people may use for
:04:26. > :04:31.against a particular course of action. Both sides say this is the
:04:31. > :04:34.biggest decision Scottish people will face in 300 years, but the UK
:04:34. > :04:39.government got 3,000 replies and the Scottish governments ever have
:04:39. > :04:43.had 12,000 so far with a month still to go. By comparison, the
:04:43. > :04:49.biggest ever consultation response saw 50,000 take part in the debate
:04:49. > :04:55.over same-sex marriage. Reporting Scotland understands that
:04:55. > :04:59.for bits to take over Rangers has been received by the club's
:04:59. > :05:02.administrators this evening. The SPL champions have been in
:05:02. > :05:05.administration since mid-February. The view amongst fans seems to be
:05:05. > :05:15.that the priority for any new owners should be to avoid
:05:15. > :05:20.
:05:20. > :05:24.liquidation. We know the administrators were
:05:24. > :05:29.expecting four or five bids before the closing time. Paul Murray and
:05:29. > :05:33.his Blue Knights consortium are the group we know most about. They are
:05:33. > :05:40.essentially are funded by a company who provided cash to the current
:05:40. > :05:46.owner, Craig Whyte, in return for future season tickets. That was
:05:46. > :05:51.followed by a crude from Singapore. -- Ait Group. We know very little
:05:51. > :05:54.about this consortium as they have managed to stay out of this so far.
:05:54. > :05:59.Another group that has managed to stay out of the Spotlight so far is
:05:59. > :06:04.a group from America. They are investors and we will have to see
:06:04. > :06:08.exactly what they bring to the table. Then this surprise one from
:06:08. > :06:12.the Continent - a consortium from Germany. They have been sniffing
:06:12. > :06:16.around Rangers for some time, I understand, but they have now
:06:16. > :06:19.decided to firm that up with actual offer. What happens now is the
:06:19. > :06:23.administrators will choose a preferred bidder early next week,
:06:23. > :06:26.and then grant a period of exclusivity so that consortium can
:06:26. > :06:32.then move forward and prove that they have what it takes to take
:06:32. > :06:38.Rangers forward. Most fans seem desperate to avoid liquidation. Is
:06:38. > :06:47.that still a possibility? Yes, it is still a possibility. But, there
:06:47. > :06:50.seems to be an air of confidence. Perhaps the administrators believe
:06:50. > :06:55.that a voluntary agreement is now possible, given the bits that are
:06:55. > :06:59.on the table. Of course, still massive debts at Rangers. We have
:06:59. > :07:02.this big tax bill hanging over the club's head so it will be an uphill
:07:02. > :07:06.struggle. You're watching Reporting Scotland
:07:06. > :07:09.from the BBC. Still to come on the programme: A murder trial hears how
:07:09. > :07:14.a witness feared a massacre when a gangster was shot at this

:07:24. > :07:29.a train crash which claimed the life of this Glasgow woman.
:07:29. > :07:34.In sport, the ESFA give money that was going to Rangers to Dundee
:07:34. > :07:38.United instead. And, we speak to the Scot who is dreaming of glory
:07:38. > :07:41.at the London Olympics. One of the last men taken off
:07:41. > :07:45.Total's Elgin platform has been describing what happened after the
:07:45. > :07:49.discovery of a major gas leak. William Cardno was one of 19 people
:07:49. > :07:57.left to deal with the emergency ten days ago. Over 200 workers were
:07:57. > :08:01.lifted off the platform to safety. Colin Wight reports.
:08:01. > :08:06.We trained for it regularly. We have Gills every week. I never,
:08:06. > :08:09.ever thought this would happen. William Cardno is the offshore
:08:09. > :08:14.installation manager on the Elgin platform. It has been leaking gas
:08:14. > :08:18.now for over a week. No one is left on board. The weather today forced
:08:18. > :08:21.the company to abandon plans to fly a team of specialists on to the
:08:21. > :08:26.platform to assess what could be done. The interview with William
:08:26. > :08:33.Cardno was posted on the company's website. We requested our own
:08:33. > :08:37.interview, but Mr Cardno was unavailable. We deliberately kept
:08:37. > :08:42.19 people on the platform to evaluate the a situation, to see if
:08:42. > :08:48.there was a thing we could do, and really to maintain the system. So
:08:49. > :08:52.long as the platform is still alive, we could monitor the firing gas
:08:52. > :08:56.status on the platform. We knew that once we turned the key to
:08:56. > :09:02.switch everything off, all that was lost. That information was
:09:02. > :09:06.invaluable in trying to determine the cause of the incident. William
:09:06. > :09:09.Cardno says the hardest decision was deciding to keep the 19 on
:09:09. > :09:13.board, but they knew they could get off quickly by lifeboat if the
:09:13. > :09:16.situation escalated. He said the incident showed the procedures

:09:55. > :09:58.reaction is that I am sad and disappointed. This project is
