:00:14. > :00:17.Welcome to Reporting Scotland. Tonight on your national news...

:00:17. > :00:20.135 million. The astonishing amount of money owed by Rangers.

:00:20. > :00:30.Among the creditors are other clubs, the police, even the local news

:00:30. > :00:35.

:00:35. > :00:42.agents. And the bill to the tax man alone could be 93 million. Holy

:00:42. > :00:46.smoke! 135 million?! They are going down the tubes, then! Is going to

:00:46. > :00:48.pay that for the club?! Tonight, we'll be asking where this

:00:48. > :00:50.leaves the club and whether they can avoid liquidation.

:00:50. > :00:53.Also ahead... A specialist team has landed on

:00:53. > :00:57.this abandoned North Sea platform, where gas has been leaking for 11

:00:57. > :01:01.days now. We'll have latest on what they found on the Elgin oil

:01:01. > :01:03.installation. Inching towards the long weekend.

:01:03. > :01:08.Airports get ready for a busy Easter, but motoring organisations

:01:08. > :01:11.say the nation's roads could actually be quieter than normal.

:01:11. > :01:19.And it's been called synchronised swimming without the nose clips. So

:01:19. > :01:21.could synchronised skating be the next Olympic sport?

:01:21. > :01:26.Rangers administrators have revealed that the club's total debt

:01:26. > :01:29.could exceed 134 million. Duff and Phelps published the details in

:01:29. > :01:33.their report to creditors, which appeared on the Rangers website

:01:33. > :01:43.this afternoon. It includes an estimate of more than 90 million

:01:43. > :01:44.

:01:44. > :01:48.owed to the taxman. It is the scene of one of the

:01:48. > :01:52.biggest football stories in the history of the Scottish game. Since

:01:52. > :01:56.Rangers entered administration in February, the big question has been,

:01:56. > :02:00.can they survive? Today, the club's administrators revealed the extent

:02:00. > :02:04.of the debt that has landed the club in such trouble. The list of

:02:04. > :02:11.those who owed cash is also there. Among them, Arsenal, Manchester

:02:11. > :02:17.City, Chelsea, Rapid Vienna, Celtic, Hearts, Strathclyde Police, even

:02:17. > :02:23.the local newsagent is owed over 500. But the big one is Her

:02:23. > :02:28.Majesty's Revenue and Customs. All in all, the total bill could top

:02:28. > :02:33.134 million. I am absolutely astonished. Absolutely astonished.

:02:33. > :02:37.I had heard rumours on the internet going back to this time last year

:02:37. > :02:45.that said it might be as much as 50 million. But that is 2.5 times

:02:45. > :02:51.your worst nightmare. Holy smoke. 135 million? They're going down the

:02:51. > :02:55.tubes, then. 135 million?! Who is going to pay that for the club?

:02:55. > :03:00.Let's take a look at the breakdown. The expense bill was around 5.5

:03:00. > :03:05.million. People who loaned cash to creep right for future season

:03:05. > :03:08.tickets are due almost 27 million. Before the began so-called small

:03:08. > :03:13.Before the began so-called small tax bill, HMI C R O Dover 40

:03:13. > :03:18.million. The small tax cases around 4 million. The big one is possibly

:03:18. > :03:26.a whopping 75 million. Other creditors, including football

:03:26. > :03:30.creditors, are owed almost 9 The fans as celebrated their side's

:03:30. > :03:35.Old Firm success two weeks ago knew the situation was bad, but the cold

:03:35. > :03:38.hard facts and figures highlight just how desperate the situation is.

:03:39. > :03:41.No one knows at this point whether we're talking about a sale of the

:03:41. > :03:47.business and assets of the club or whether we're actually talking

:03:47. > :03:52.about a sale of the club. There are still some issues surrounding the

:03:52. > :03:55.security that is held by Craig Whyte's company. There is still

:03:55. > :03:59.considerable uncertainties there. I do not think it is all good news.

:03:59. > :04:03.But they do not think it is all bad news, either. The administrators

:04:03. > :04:06.say there is light at the end of the tunnel and believe that

:04:06. > :04:10.liquidation is avoidable. But tonight, they are also suggesting

:04:10. > :04:15.that some form of liquidation could safeguard the long-term stability

:04:15. > :04:22.and viability of the business. For a club with 140 years of history,

:04:22. > :04:27.tonight, there could be 134 million reasons to be fearful.

:04:27. > :04:30.What are the administrators saying about the bids for the club?

:04:30. > :04:35.It is worthwhile pointing out that the administrators do not believe

:04:35. > :04:37.these figures represent some kind of doomsday scenario. They still

:04:37. > :04:41.believe they are working towards a scenario that avoids liquidation.

:04:41. > :04:47.Those figures make that a lot Tricker -- trickier than previously

:04:47. > :04:51.thought. 4 beds were put on the table for the club yesterday. Today,

:04:51. > :04:54.the administrators told me they have now cut that down to three.

:04:54. > :04:58.The consortium from Germany has been told there bid does not quite

:04:58. > :05:01.make the grade. They are now looking for a prepared creditor.

:05:01. > :05:03.That is due to be announced next week.

:05:03. > :05:07.Thank you. A specialist team from the oil

:05:07. > :05:11.company Total has spent much of the day at the North Sea platform which

:05:11. > :05:13.has been the site of a major gas leak. They flew out to the Elgin

:05:13. > :05:16.platform this morning to assess what might have caused the problem.

:05:16. > :05:19.The team returned to Aberdeen airport late this afternoon and our

:05:19. > :05:29.reporter is there tonight. Has the oil company said anything since

:05:29. > :05:35.they got back? Yes, they certainly have. What in

:05:35. > :05:38.the past 30 minutes, Total have issued a statement. The helicopter

:05:38. > :05:45.arrived back here at Aberdeen airport about 15 minutes ago. Just

:05:45. > :05:50.about 6pm, Total issued a statement saying that the team had been out

:05:50. > :05:53.there, three Total staff and five from the drilling company, to

:05:53. > :05:57.assess the situation. They spent about four hours on the platform

:05:57. > :06:04.and they say it is a key milestone in bringing the situation under

:06:04. > :06:09.control. The team that looked at safe access to areas, they perform

:06:09. > :06:16.actions that will help to Prevert - - prepare to bring in this

:06:16. > :06:22.situation under control. Under her setting up equipment. It seems to

:06:22. > :06:26.have been a successful trip. What happens next?

:06:26. > :06:29.Total say they will be assessing this information over the next few

:06:29. > :06:33.days. The drilling of two relief wells still remains an option for

:06:33. > :06:37.them. This afternoon, the Scottish Government announced that they have

:06:37. > :06:45.set up a special environment body, of which met for the first time

:06:45. > :06:48.yesterday, to keep close monitoring on the situation. A vessel run by

:06:48. > :06:54.the Government agency, Marine Scotland, will set off from

:06:54. > :06:57.Aberdeen tomorrow for about four days, gathering and collecting

:06:57. > :07:02.information from the area to try to keep the Government informed of

:07:02. > :07:05.what is happening. We just have to wait and see what the debriefing is

:07:05. > :07:08.from the people who went out there today and Total will no doubt make

:07:08. > :07:12.a further statement in the days to come, depending on what they have

:07:12. > :07:16.learned from what must have been a very risky exercise for the people

:07:16. > :07:19.who flew out there today, the first time anybody has been on that

:07:19. > :07:22.platform since the incident happened some 11 days ago.

:07:22. > :07:25.Thank you. A court has heard that a gangland

:07:25. > :07:29.figure, murdered in a supermarket car park in Glasgow, was shot

:07:29. > :07:32.repeatedly while his two friends ran for safety. One of them told

:07:33. > :07:42.the High Court in Glasgow that Kevin Carroll was in the back of a

:07:42. > :07:46.parked car when he was targeted by two masked gunmen.

:07:46. > :07:51.A Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll was shot dead in this black Audi, parked

:07:51. > :07:55.here in ASDA in Glasgow. It happened on 13th January, 2010.

:07:55. > :07:59.Stephen McClaggan had been in the car with him. He told the court

:07:59. > :08:03.that he and driver John Bonner had picked Mr Karel up from his home at

:08:03. > :08:06.mid-morning. They drove to ASDA, Claire Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll had

:08:06. > :08:10.arranged to see another man for a meeting. They said there was no

:08:10. > :08:14.possibility they had been followed because they took a roundabout

:08:14. > :08:21.route, avoiding roadworks. After a meeting, the three men go back in

:08:21. > :08:26.the car. Stephen McClaggan said just seconds

:08:26. > :08:31.after they cut back into the car or, at a Volkswagen Golf slant to a

:08:31. > :08:36.halt in front of them come up locking them in. He said he saw

:08:36. > :08:40.masked men coming towards them. He said, I just on masks and ran. He

:08:40. > :08:45.said how he ran across the retail park to is betting shop. He said he

:08:45. > :08:51.did not look back, but he heard all the bangs. The jury heard 13 shots

:08:51. > :08:54.were fired. When he stopped the car leaving, Stephen McClaggan said he

:08:54. > :09:01.ran back to his car. The Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll was lying on the

:09:01. > :09:04.back seat. He said, I just knew he was dead. The court heard Kevin

:09:04. > :09:06."Gerbil" Carroll had wanted to sit in the front of the car as he

:09:07. > :09:13.usually did. But Stephen McClaggan told police he told him to sit in

:09:13. > :09:15.the back. Defence QC bit it to Stephen McClaggan that if Kevin

:09:15. > :09:19."Gerbil" Carroll had been in the front passenger seat, he could have

:09:19. > :09:21.done exactly what you did, of which was run away. The court had heard

:09:21. > :09:24.that Kevin "Gerbil" Carroll had been shot in the past. Stephen

:09:24. > :09:29.McClaggan said that around the time of his murder, he was paranoid he

:09:29. > :09:34.would be shot again. Ross Martin denies murdering Kevin "Gerbil"

:09:34. > :09:37.Carroll. He has lodged a special events -- defence, incriminating

:09:37. > :09:39.eight are the people. You're watching Reporting Scotland

:09:39. > :09:43.from the BBC. Still to come on the programme...

:09:43. > :09:45.New efforts to boost the future of some of our most fragile habitats.

:09:45. > :09:49.In sport... A Scot is at the Masters almost ten

:09:49. > :09:52.years after his last crack at the tournament.

:09:52. > :10:00.And find out why Dundee United fans are calling this player the

:10:00. > :10:03.Tannadice Messi. All that and a wee bit more later.

:10:03. > :10:06.It's the start of the Easter getaway today, as tens of thousands

:10:06. > :10:09.of Scots make the most of the holiday break. The long weekend

:10:09. > :10:12.will be among the busiest of the year for the main airports,

:10:12. > :10:16.although motoring organisations are predicting that the roads may be

:10:16. > :10:23.quieter than last year. Julie Peacock is at Glasgow airport now.

:10:23. > :10:30.It is going to be a busy weekend ahead there?

:10:30. > :10:37.Yes, it is. As you can see, things are quieter. The last of the

:10:37. > :10:40.holidaymakers left for Malika just a while ago! But Glasgow airport is

:10:40. > :10:46.reporting a large increase in passenger numbers. They say it is

:10:46. > :10:50.up one third on this weekend. But even by Easter's standards, things

:10:50. > :10:54.are looking good. They're expecting to see an extra 10,000 passengers

:10:54. > :10:58.coming through the door this Easter as they saw last year. It just goes

:10:58. > :11:04.to show that despite family budgets being squeezed, people are still

:11:04. > :11:07.making the most of that Easter break. It is only Thursday, but the

:11:07. > :11:12.big get away is already under way. This was Glasgow Airport this

:11:12. > :11:19.morning. 90,000 people will have passed through here by the end of

:11:19. > :11:25.the tenth. Everyone has a plan for Easter. I am looking forward to

:11:25. > :11:29.gran and granddad coming back for Easter. Ardley? Lots of Presley's!

:11:29. > :11:35.Visiting gardens, that's a good thing. A hopefully, if the weather

:11:35. > :11:39.is good, people do a bit of walking. We're going to get married!

:11:39. > :11:43.today is going to be busiest on the roads. More than half of Scots are

:11:43. > :11:50.planning to drive off this Easter, as holidaying in the UK has become

:11:50. > :11:55.more popular. This Easter, will be hoped to continue with the current

:11:55. > :12:01.trend of people holidaying at home, or with much to see and do, whether

:12:01. > :12:07.it is a visit to the pandas, the Stirling Castle, Edinburgh Science

:12:07. > :12:10.building up or just the rural Scottish landscapes. Greenback

:12:10. > :12:14.house are taking full advantage of the boom of people staying close to

:12:14. > :12:22.home. They have stocked up on 1,300 eggs for this weekend's Easter egg

:12:22. > :12:27.hunt. For Rachel and her grandmother, days out like this

:12:27. > :12:34.offer more variety than a holiday. There is some were different to go

:12:34. > :12:39.every day. -- somewhere different. We have been out lots of places

:12:39. > :12:43.like gardens and everything, just trying to see but we can find.

:12:43. > :12:47.AA says the roads will be quieter this year than last. Many families

:12:47. > :12:51.got away last week at the start of the school holidays. But the advice

:12:51. > :12:56.is the saints. Plan your journey and leave plenty of time for those

:12:56. > :13:01.unexpected delays. If you are lucky enough to be

:13:01. > :13:05.jetting off this weekend, you may be wondering what Scotland's

:13:05. > :13:08.unpredictable weather has in store for us. Will we have a heatwave? Or

:13:09. > :13:12.the other the snowstorms? The answer is, neither. We can expect

:13:12. > :13:18.to see lots of cloud, a little bit of rain and a little bit of

:13:18. > :13:20.sunshine. Pretty much a typical Scottish Easter. There is a full

:13:20. > :13:23.weather forecast late run the programme.

:13:23. > :13:27.Edinburgh Zoo's pandas have run out of time to conceive a cub. Sunshine

:13:27. > :13:30.and Sweetie had just 36 hours to mate after Sweetie came into season.

:13:30. > :13:34.The zoo says that although there was something in the air, the pair

:13:34. > :13:42.didn't mate. Test results late last night showed a drop in the female

:13:42. > :13:52.bear's hormone levels. Now they'll A look now at what else has been

:13:52. > :13:53.

:13:53. > :13:58.happening across the country this Thursday. Angus MacNeil says he

:13:58. > :14:03.concerned about the number incidents on flights to stone way.

:14:03. > :14:10.There have been five in the last few months. Campaigners for the

:14:10. > :14:15.Aberdeen bypass are to take their fight to the High Court. They

:14:15. > :14:21.recently lost their High Court challenge. Inspectors say excellent

:14:21. > :14:31.progress has been made for the venues for the Commonwealth Games

:14:31. > :14:31.

:14:31. > :14:39.in 2014. Trawler men who lost their livelihoods during the 1970s cod

:14:39. > :14:47.wars with Iceland have won compensation. The compensation is

:14:47. > :14:55.an insult. It is too little, too late. Successive governments let

:14:55. > :15:05.all the fishermen down. 2011 was a record-breaking year for the poppy

:15:42. > :15:42.

:15:42. > :15:45.for the gallery. They were once a common sight

:15:45. > :15:47.across Scotland, but grassland meadows have been disappearing at

:15:47. > :15:50.an increasing rate over the past century. Now lottery funding has

:15:50. > :15:53.given fresh hope for the future of these fragile habitats. As Steven

:15:53. > :16:02.Godden reports, an East Lothian reserve is set to play an important

:16:02. > :16:12.role. A quiet corner of the countryside

:16:12. > :16:20.perfect for a spot of exercise. This is a key battleground in a

:16:20. > :16:24.fight to save it grasslands. The rich soil is botanically diverse,

:16:24. > :16:29.buddy rich wildlife struggles to survive. Now, help is on the way.

:16:29. > :16:35.We need something to control the grass and its density. The easiest

:16:35. > :16:43.way to do that is to have grazing. That would knock back the coarse

:16:43. > :16:50.grasses. Funding from the Heritage Lottery will make that possible.
