:00:20. > :00:24.Tonight on Reporting Scotland, no cheating. The former Rangers owner

:00:24. > :00:31.says No Rules were broken under his watch and accuses the authorities

:00:31. > :00:40.of rewriting laws. Flash flooding this inject brat during a two-hour

:00:40. > :00:46.downpour. -- injured borough. -- in this town. People are talking about

:00:46. > :00:51.a sense of community. Everybody is trying to help out. Also, an

:00:51. > :00:57.anxious wait. Exam results are due out tomorrow but university and

:00:57. > :01:04.out tomorrow but university and college places are scarce. My word,

:01:04. > :01:09.he has got talent! K another golden moment for Scotland. Scott Brash

:01:09. > :01:14.takes top honours in the Olympic team showjumping and the triumph of

:01:14. > :01:20.Andy Murray brings a touch of gold Andy Murray brings a touch of gold

:01:20. > :01:24.back to his aim town from Wimbledon. Former Rangers owner Sir David

:01:24. > :01:28.Murray said no cheating took place during his time at Ibrox.

:01:28. > :01:32.Investigations are continuing about how certain players were paid. The

:01:32. > :01:40.current manager and one of his predecessor have also defended the

:01:40. > :01:44.club. Some of the most famous title wins have come from this period

:01:44. > :01:50.under investigation, but by a tribunal and a football independent

:01:50. > :02:00.commission. The man at the helm issued a staunch defence of the

:02:00. > :02:03.

:02:04. > :02:07.club methods saying that rules were Good he be right? He could be right.

:02:07. > :02:12.But we are still waiting for the result of the case. Rangers have

:02:12. > :02:17.not yet been found guilty of any wrongdoing. And if he has not done

:02:17. > :02:22.anything wrong from that point of view, he has not done anything

:02:22. > :02:26.wrong from a contract point of view as well. But a documentary

:02:26. > :02:32.uncovered evidence submitted in court suggesting that 53 players

:02:32. > :02:36.and staff had letters giving undertakings to fund ace up trust

:02:36. > :02:44.with cash. But the current manager thinks that there is no case to

:02:44. > :02:50.answer. It was not under a proper contract and I have been told it is

:02:50. > :02:56.probably a complete waste of time but people have seen it fit to

:02:56. > :03:00.pursue this. That is up to them. Alex McLeish was the manager for

:03:00. > :03:05.much of the period under investigation. He said he thinks

:03:05. > :03:09.the idea of stripping the clerk of titles is a non-starter but the

:03:09. > :03:14.question remains that it they had not operated the scheme, could they

:03:14. > :03:19.have afforded some of the players that helped them win the titles? It

:03:20. > :03:27.will be decided by a civil court but the commission must decide if

:03:27. > :03:32.they have broken any of their roles. Residents and traders on the

:03:32. > :03:35.Borders are demanding assurances after yesterday's flooding. The

:03:35. > :03:39.clean-up operation continues after been deluged turned the main

:03:39. > :03:48.thoroughfare into a river. Locals want to know everything is being

:03:48. > :03:52.done to stop it happening again. Here is our correspondent. Well, it

:03:52. > :03:56.is starting to rain heavily again. We have still got weather warnings

:03:56. > :04:04.in the Borders tonight. The problems started right at the back

:04:04. > :04:07.of the town. It burst its banks and it we had a very heavy and intense

:04:08. > :04:12.downpour. Floodwaters were cascading down the street and

:04:12. > :04:19.flooding was down in the centre of town and it was hitting businesses

:04:19. > :04:24.as it went. Businesses like this coffee-shop. It was flooded in a

:04:24. > :04:31.matter of minutes. Another business, all the fixtures and fittings have

:04:31. > :04:36.been ruined and are out on the street. Upstairs was not too bad

:04:36. > :04:42.but downstairs in the basement, the water had come through the walls.

:04:42. > :04:50.It had ruined everything stored down here. It has ruined everything

:04:50. > :04:58.here yesterday. It is as bad as it has ever been. The Barbers was also

:04:58. > :05:02.hit badly. That was Corby did time in 15 years. I have got to go up

:05:02. > :05:07.and look at the walls and the plastering and they have been

:05:07. > :05:15.soaked. High street houses stood little chance against the flood

:05:15. > :05:19.water. It was bursting through the doors. Eat -- it has ruined the

:05:19. > :05:27.tiles and the papers. We had not checked the electrics as of yet but

:05:27. > :05:31.we are pretty devastated. The high street is downhill. But this is

:05:31. > :05:36.where the river burst its banks. If we look down here, we have got

:05:36. > :05:41.special fencing. When the water level hits that, it sets off an

:05:41. > :05:48.alarm at headquarters. But it was so intense and so quick that this

:05:48. > :05:52.whole thing was completely overwhelmed in minutes. Yesterday,

:05:52. > :05:57.this underpass was impassable. It was almost full. Emergency services

:05:57. > :06:02.have checked homes for stranded residents. As the damage was

:06:02. > :06:06.checked, we did have some council criticism. At the mobilised

:06:06. > :06:09.machines quickly along with the police and fire brigades and

:06:09. > :06:14.actually the response, we have cleared the town very well and we

:06:14. > :06:18.have helped local traders to resolve issues. We have got an air

:06:18. > :06:24.of determination here. This town is doing everything it can to get back

:06:24. > :06:28.to normal as quickly as possible. Anybody that has been affected by

:06:28. > :06:33.the flooding, businesses and local residents, have been asked to

:06:33. > :06:36.attend a special town hall meeting. People are asking for assurances

:06:36. > :06:41.that everything that can be done to stop this happening again will be

:06:41. > :06:47.done. A key way it is nearly over for nervous pupils and probably

:06:47. > :06:51.even more nervous parents after the exam results are due out tomorrow.

:06:51. > :06:56.The futures of thousands of young people across the country will be

:06:56. > :06:59.decided by these envelopes and text messages. But we have got a warning

:06:59. > :07:04.from universities that few places will be available for students

:07:04. > :07:12.looking for last-minute places. Here is our correspondent. How much

:07:12. > :07:16.of a squeeze have we got on places? We have got virtually no surplus

:07:16. > :07:21.places at ancient universities such as St Andrews and Edinburgh. But

:07:21. > :07:26.this helpline will be ready tomorrow to tell young people that

:07:26. > :07:31.they have got a few places at other universities such as Edinburgh

:07:31. > :07:37.Napier and the Edinburgh of the Highlands. They have got 1,000

:07:37. > :07:42.extra places. But in general, lack of places seem to be down to some

:07:42. > :07:47.universities dropping some courses. And because of increased demand

:07:47. > :07:51.from Scottish people and students across Europe. Word is getting

:07:51. > :07:55.around that Scotland has got several excellent universities and

:07:56. > :08:04.tuition is free for EU students. And Steve gurkhas tomorrow is not

:08:04. > :08:08.just on people hoping to get to university. -- the focus. Youth

:08:08. > :08:13.unemployment is a major issue right now. Advisers will tell young

:08:13. > :08:17.people about job vacancies and modern apprenticeships and about

:08:18. > :08:21.remaining places in further education colleges. Young people

:08:21. > :08:29.using this helpline last year said that advice for anybody tomorrow

:08:29. > :08:33.that does not get the results they hope for are wondering what to do.

:08:33. > :08:37.You have always got options there if you do not get what you are

:08:37. > :08:46.looking for. Stay calm and do not panic and look at what he wants to

:08:46. > :08:50.do. You have always got a way to get what he wants. -- you want.

:08:50. > :08:59.That opens at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. The number should be on

:08:59. > :09:06.your screen now... Join us tomorrow on Reporting Scotland and on radio

:09:06. > :09:11.and online and we can fill you in on important results. This is

:09:11. > :09:19.Reporting Scotland from the BBC. Tonight, hopes that the legacy of

:09:19. > :09:22.the Olympics will be a new generation of champions. But is

:09:22. > :09:28.there an Olympic downside? Advance ticket sales have slumped at the

:09:28. > :09:32.Edinburgh tattoo. The door might be open about their is no place for

:09:32. > :09:42.the Wallace in Craig Levein's international squad. And Michael

:09:42. > :09:44.

:09:44. > :09:50.Jamieson says he cannot wait to Another day and another gold medal

:09:50. > :09:53.for the Scots at Team GB. We are getting used to this. It was the

:09:53. > :10:01.turn of Scott Brash in the showjumping. Here is our

:10:01. > :10:05.correspondent. Another golden day for Team GB. These Olympics are

:10:05. > :10:13.turning out to be one of the best ever for Great Britain and it is

:10:13. > :10:18.already new territory for Scottish athletes. The Scots have a won 10

:10:18. > :10:24.medals. That is the best ever tally for Scottish people in Team GB. The

:10:24. > :10:28.latest was a gold medal coming this afternoon for Scott Brash from the

:10:28. > :10:31.showjumping. We can see him in action just now. He was part of the

:10:31. > :10:35.action just now. He was part of the team competition in the showjumping.

:10:35. > :10:41.It was the first gold medal for Great Britain in 60 years in show

:10:41. > :10:47.jumping. He was part of a four man team and it was a dramatic contest

:10:47. > :10:52.against the Netherlands for the gold medal. And they are

:10:52. > :10:54.celebrating a wonderful achievement for B-team and after he received

:10:54. > :10:59.his gold medal, Scott Brash was his gold medal, Scott Brash was

:11:00. > :11:06.generous in his praise of team mates. I am delighted for everyone

:11:06. > :11:14.and especially the team here. We have fought all these years worked

:11:14. > :11:22.hard. And we have just been trying to get to this level and it is

:11:22. > :11:26.great to have to play our part in helping them. Gold for Scott Brash

:11:26. > :11:34.and a calls for Andy Murray yesterday as well at Wimbledon. He

:11:34. > :11:38.said it was one of the best weeks of his tennis career. He said his

:11:38. > :11:42.victory against Roger Federer was the best performance of his career

:11:42. > :11:50.and it has led to an interesting new feature on the streets of

:11:50. > :11:56.Dunblane. Paint for the pillar-box in Dunblane. Especially dumb by the

:11:56. > :12:06.Royal Mail. And a shiny gold medal. It was the finest moment of Andy

:12:06. > :12:07.

:12:07. > :12:12.Murray's Korea. -- career. Gold medal at last and Olympic champion.

:12:12. > :12:17.Our I have loved every minute of it. The best week of my tennis life,

:12:17. > :12:22.definitely, winning the final today. It is definitely the biggest win of

:12:22. > :12:25.my career and I played well from start to finish. And he could not

:12:25. > :12:30.get to his loved ones quickly enough to share his success. A

:12:30. > :12:35.poignant moment with his mother. She first gave him a tennis racket

:12:35. > :12:39.when he was four. He always believed in himself but it was that

:12:39. > :12:44.ultimate belief of getting above that final hurdle in a major event

:12:44. > :12:48.and I hope that will give him the confidence to get more titles.

:12:48. > :12:56.lucky boy got some extra laugh. What A difference a few weeks can

:12:56. > :13:05.make. It is not going to be easy... To stroke when he was beaten by

:13:05. > :13:10.Roger Federer. -- distraught. But that has got a golden lining. He

:13:10. > :13:16.had a strict set demolition of the greatest player of all time. --

:13:16. > :13:22.straight-sets demolition. I hope he enjoys it because that is important.

:13:22. > :13:25.A silver medal in the mixed doubles with Laura Robson to add to the

:13:25. > :13:33.impressive Team GB tally. It has been incredible in the last few

:13:33. > :13:40.days. Can I have a quick shot of the medal? This is Andy Murray's

:13:40. > :13:50.gold medal. I am with an Olympic gold medallist, congratulations,

:13:50. > :13:57.

:13:57. > :14:01.What will be the legacy of the 2012 games? There are hopes that it will

:14:01. > :14:05.inspire a whole new generation of champions. Not only that, perhaps

:14:05. > :14:09.it has inspired some armchair sports fans to get off the couch

:14:09. > :14:13.and take part. They are some of the best young

:14:13. > :14:19.athletes in the Borders to today having added spring in their step.

:14:19. > :14:29.The reason? A certain Jamaican sprinter -- sprinter who captivated

:14:29. > :14:30.

:14:30. > :14:35.a worldwide operate -- audience. There was really inspiring. We all

:14:35. > :14:41.want to get as far as hands. I just hope that we can.

:14:41. > :14:47.An Olympic team is something only a select few will realise, but with

:14:47. > :14:53.London 2012 in full swing, this Glasgow's poor job is pleasing and

:14:53. > :14:57.some extra fittings. A lot of people are starting to really feel

:14:57. > :15:00.that they can go out and emulate the people that they are seeing on

:15:00. > :15:04.the screen. There is no doubt at the Olympics

:15:04. > :15:09.is creating plenty of enthusiasm. The question is whether that is

:15:09. > :15:18.just a temporary bars or whether it can be turned into something more

:15:18. > :15:24.permanent.. -- temporary bars. is accepted without any critical

:15:24. > :15:28.awareness. People are saying that there is a connection between the

:15:28. > :15:38.level of success in the Olympic Games and involvement. They're not

:15:38. > :15:48.necessarily connected. There has been a similar pattern

:15:48. > :15:49.

:15:50. > :15:55.for years threat crossing -- threat coaching. My concern is a wholly

:15:55. > :16:00.going to facilitate it. Are we going to look after the children,

:16:00. > :16:04.how are we going to use that enthusiasm?

:16:04. > :16:09.As the next generation try to follow in the heel slips -- tried

:16:09. > :16:19.to follow in the footsteps of their Olympic heroes, but is hope that

:16:19. > :16:19.

:16:19. > :16:22.that has not such a way. Monklands General Hospital in Airdrie has

:16:22. > :16:24.been told to tighten its procedures after staff gave inspectors the

:16:24. > :16:27.wrong information on patients identified as not for resuscitation.

:16:27. > :16:33.The error came to light during an inspection in June. Healthcare

:16:33. > :16:35.Improvement Scotland found seven the areas of strength and

:16:35. > :16:38.highlighted 15 years which needed attention. NHS Lanarkshire said all

:16:38. > :16:40.the issues which had been raised were being addressed "as a

:16:40. > :16:42.priority". The coalition of Labour,

:16:42. > :16:45.Conservative and Independent councillors running Aberdeen City

:16:45. > :16:55.has outlined its vision for the next five years. "Aberdeen - the

:16:55. > :16:56.

:16:56. > :17:00.Smarter City", prioritises economic development. The priority on our

:17:00. > :17:05.economy and improving our economy. Aberdeen is already the easiest

:17:05. > :17:09.place in the UK to get a job, our role is to make that easier and to

:17:09. > :17:12.develop that further. The Piping Live festival is under

:17:12. > :17:15.way in Glasgow, as the city prepares to host World Pipe Band

:17:15. > :17:24.Championship at the weekend. About 30,000 visitors and 8,000 pipers,

:17:24. > :17:28.drummers and performers from around the world are expected in the city.

:17:29. > :17:34.It is a very big deal to us. We practised twice a week for this,

:17:34. > :17:37.three hours a day when we are here. We try to play the best that we can.

:17:37. > :17:39.An unexploded World War II mine found at a pipeline in the North

:17:39. > :17:43.Sea has been "successfully detonated". Operator Shell first

:17:43. > :17:45.discovered the mine in 1993, 62 miles off Aberdeen.

:17:45. > :17:53.Edinburgh's Royal Botanic Garden has unveiled plans for future

:17:53. > :17:55.development. It's aiming to spend around 40 million in total to

:17:55. > :17:58.refurbish buildings and develop its education facilities. Initially,

:17:58. > :18:02.work will start in the Victorian Glasshouses.

:18:02. > :18:07.The comedian Eddie Izzard is back in Edinburgh to perform a one off-

:18:07. > :18:17.show, his first at the Fringe in 19 years. He began his comedy career

:18:17. > :18:18.

:18:18. > :18:25.as a street performer at the Fringe in the 1980s. It was huge when I

:18:25. > :18:29.first did it. I was first here in 1991 and finished in 1993. It is

:18:29. > :18:33.now 2012. Crazy. It was huge and difficult when I started and now it

:18:33. > :18:37.is even bigger. And there are more stories from

:18:37. > :18:43.your area, and all the latest news, 24 hours a day on BBC Scotland's

:18:43. > :18:49.website. Back to the sport.

:18:49. > :18:54.We will start with football. Craig Levein has named his what -- his

:18:54. > :18:59.squad for next week's friendly against Australia. But he says

:18:59. > :19:04.there is no room for Lee Wallace. He has not closed the door or on

:19:04. > :19:09.him, but says that the step up from Third Division to international

:19:09. > :19:19.football is pretty difficult. Another season, another dilemma for

:19:19. > :19:19.

:19:19. > :19:23.the Scottish international lot -- Scottish international squad.

:19:23. > :19:27.Players playing at the top level will find it easier to step into

:19:27. > :19:31.playing international football. It is very difficult for those playing

:19:31. > :19:36.the Third Division in Scotland to be at the speed of an international

:19:36. > :19:40.match. I think it is more difficult for him now to get in than it would

:19:40. > :19:50.have been previously. His place has been taken by former Celtic left-

:19:50. > :19:51.

:19:51. > :19:55.back Danny Fox, now at Southampton and rewarded for fine form.

:19:55. > :20:01.I do not not there has any been -- ever been a Scottish player that

:20:01. > :20:06.has scored as many goals as he did last season. I am looking forward

:20:06. > :20:13.to training with pen and giving and Sunday in time.

:20:13. > :20:22.Darragh and Fletcher's career was threatened by a bold conditions. He

:20:22. > :20:26.will not feature until he is fully fit -- Darren Fletcher.

:20:26. > :20:31.If we look at some of the teams in the grip and where the players are

:20:31. > :20:35.playing, we say that they are extremely good players. What I want

:20:35. > :20:40.to do is have the best team. That is what I'm interested in and that

:20:40. > :20:46.involves the supporters as well. And the time for the Tartan Army to

:20:46. > :20:50.get involved is one week on Wednesday at Easter Road.

:20:50. > :20:56.As we heard earlier in the programme, thanks to Scott Brash's

:20:56. > :21:01.Gold, Scotland have now won six golds, three silver and one bronze

:21:01. > :21:05.medal at the London Olympics. Last Wednesday it took some world record

:21:05. > :21:10.to deny Michael Jamieson gold in the pool. The 23-year-old says that

:21:10. > :21:14.he cannot wait to bring his silver medal home to Glasgow. It should be

:21:14. > :21:18.great. That is home for me, I have been away for her a number of years

:21:18. > :21:22.now, with something and training, but it is always great to go back

:21:22. > :21:26.and all my family are still based there so it will be great to see

:21:26. > :21:32.them as well. Scotland's Catriona Matthew is the

:21:32. > :21:37.new Irish Open champion after sustaining a victory over Suzann

:21:37. > :21:42.Pettersen. She endured next fortunes on her

:21:42. > :21:50.way to victory with five birdies and four bogies. But she says she

:21:50. > :21:55.is delighted to have clinched her 5th title on the European Tour.

:21:55. > :22:00.The Olympic Games have been dominating our TV screens, but are

:22:00. > :22:04.the impacting on other forms of summer entertainment? Edinburgh's

:22:04. > :22:08.festivals already regard themselves as the unofficial cultural Olympics,

:22:08. > :22:18.but how will they fare in the face of competition from the real thing.

:22:18. > :22:22.Sales for some events like their Edinburgh Tattoo are down.

:22:22. > :22:27.The Edinburgh Tattoo, like the Olympics, is a slickly run, well-

:22:27. > :22:32.drilled operation. A world-class event attracting audiences and

:22:32. > :22:39.performers from around the globe. This year, ticket sales are very

:22:39. > :22:45.slow. Almost all of the world's broadcast media will be focused on

:22:45. > :22:50.the Olympic and all festivals will be challenged to get their

:22:50. > :22:54.particular event covered. You need to find your own space.

:22:54. > :22:59.Other festivals are booming. The Jazz Festival, which directly

:22:59. > :23:04.classed with the Olympics's opening weekend, has had records sales.

:23:04. > :23:08.Organisers say that that is down to early marketing and the idea that

:23:09. > :23:11.you can enjoy both sport and culture and Edinburgh. We have to

:23:11. > :23:17.be ambitious and say that we are the most important cultural event

:23:17. > :23:21.in the world and that we need to be here. Many of them will be. But

:23:21. > :23:25.also the way that people are consuming their culture and their
