:00:15. > :00:17.Welcome to Reporting Scotland. Tonight on your national news: The

:00:17. > :00:25.BBC obtains new evidence about what the Rangers administrators knew

:00:25. > :00:28.about the Ticketus deal and when. Fears that another Super Puma

:00:28. > :00:33.gearbox problem could have caused the helicopter ditching off

:00:33. > :00:36.Shetland on Monday. A major police operation in Perth

:00:36. > :00:46.in the hunt for a convicted sex offender who absconded from a

:00:46. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:53.Lincolnshire prison. Also in the programme: Barcelona

:00:53. > :00:56.snatched a winner! We reflect on a night of heartbreak

:00:56. > :01:03.for Celtic as Barcelona take all the points after scoring in injury

:01:03. > :01:13.time at the Nou Camp. And, we look back at the career of

:01:13. > :01:15.the Dundee folk singer Michael The BBC has obtained new evidence

:01:15. > :01:19.which plunges the Rangers administrators into fresh

:01:19. > :01:23.controversy. A secret recording of a conversation shows that Duff and

:01:23. > :01:26.Phelps not only knew that former owner Craig Whyte had sold season

:01:26. > :01:29.tickets to a finance firm to fund the acquisition of the club, but

:01:29. > :01:33.that they were intent on denying this because they thought they

:01:33. > :01:42.could get away with it. Our Investigations Correspondent

:01:42. > :01:48.exclusive report contains flash photography.

:01:48. > :01:54.It was the deep -- deal that finished at the former Rangers own

:01:54. > :02:01.nerves in the eyes of the fans. Four years' worth of season tickets

:02:01. > :02:06.sold off to fund his doomed acquisition. In May, BBC Scotland

:02:06. > :02:11.Investigates revealed that Duff and Phelps knew all about the deal and

:02:11. > :02:15.that a serious conflict of interests existed which should have

:02:15. > :02:21.prevented them from taking the appointment. This was strenuously

:02:21. > :02:23.denied by them and the company which is set to scoop a 3 million

:02:23. > :02:28.Prime payment for the administrators of rangers

:02:28. > :02:33.threatened to sue the BBC. David Grier took to the airways to claim

:02:33. > :02:37.the BBC had got it wrong. I am not sure what they are accusing us of

:02:37. > :02:43.apart from the suggestion we had prior knowledge of the two Kit

:02:43. > :02:47.Malthouse -- Ticketus deal which is not the case. But the BBC has new

:02:47. > :02:51.evidence which shows that not only did they know about the arrangement

:02:51. > :02:57.but they were pursuing a rigorous line of denial because they

:02:57. > :03:01.believed they could not be caught out. Craig Whyte recorded a meeting

:03:01. > :03:11.with david macro in London restaurant after the BBC

:03:11. > :03:43.

:03:43. > :03:47.investigation. The recording was Craig Whyte has confirmed he did a

:03:47. > :03:52.record this meeting and the BBC has employed a voice recognition expect

:03:52. > :03:58.to confirm the other voice on the tape is indeed that of David Grier.

:03:58. > :04:04.I found it quite shocking, mock. What I have just heard, all things

:04:04. > :04:09.being equal, would seem to suggest this is fairly heavy weight

:04:09. > :04:16.evidence that the earlier denials were misleading. Last week on the

:04:16. > :04:20.BBC, the Craig Whyte broke cover to take a map the administrator's he

:04:20. > :04:27.appointed and claimed a stun at the process to make more money. Despite

:04:27. > :04:31.Duff and Phelps' aims to a loud Rangers to trade out of the

:04:31. > :04:35.organisation, the company which owned the club is to be liquidated

:04:35. > :04:40.and a new company was formed with Rangers FC now playing in the Third

:04:40. > :04:46.Division. The administrators have yet to have their 3.1 million pound

:04:46. > :04:51.be signed off by the court. An inquiry into that conflict of

:04:51. > :04:55.interest allegations raised by the BBC, now Duff and Phelps may be

:04:55. > :05:00.feeling the heat more than ever. I has there been any response from

:05:00. > :05:06.Duff and Phelps? We put these allegations to them today and to

:05:06. > :05:09.the media advisers. But they have declined to make any comment so far.

:05:09. > :05:15.Previously, Duff and Phelps categorically denied they knew the

:05:15. > :05:19.full extent of the Ticketus deal and as recently as last week

:05:19. > :05:24.following the BBC broadcast of the Craig Whyte interview, stated they

:05:24. > :05:29.acted properly at all times during the administrator of Rangers.

:05:29. > :05:34.impact could it have on the administrator process aren't on the

:05:34. > :05:42.3 million hand fee? That is an interesting question, but the nurse

:05:42. > :05:49.cost stage of this saga is on 31st October -- the next stage of this

:05:49. > :05:53.saga. At that hearing, the administrating of Rangers will end.

:05:53. > :05:58.Discussions will then begin on the administrators fees which the court

:05:58. > :06:04.has the power to decrease or increase, as it sees fit. Hovering

:06:04. > :06:08.over all of this are the two investigations into Duff and Phelps

:06:08. > :06:13.and their appointment as administrators. The first is by the

:06:13. > :06:20.industry regulator and the second is by Lord Hodge himself. Both of

:06:20. > :06:23.those I yet to conclude. Thank you.

:06:23. > :06:26.It's thought an offshore helicopter ditched in the sea off Shetland

:06:26. > :06:29.after the pilots feared there was a problem with the aircraft's gearbox.

:06:29. > :06:31.The manufacturers say that is one of the causes currently under

:06:31. > :06:35.investigation. It was a catastrophic gearbox failure which

:06:35. > :06:38.caused the deaths of 16 men in a Super Puma crash three years ago.

:06:38. > :06:48.Tonight, dozens of helicopters remain grounded as the industry

:06:48. > :06:49.

:06:49. > :06:54.awaits developments. Colin Wight is in Aberdeen. Thank you. Tonight, as

:06:54. > :06:59.far as we know, the ditch helicopter is in a hangar behind us

:06:59. > :07:04.year in Aberdeen. Air us -- air accident investigations have spent

:07:04. > :07:08.the day poring over it. It is vital they find out what happened as a

:07:08. > :07:12.whole industry awaits their findings. Other helicopters of a

:07:12. > :07:19.similar type sit silent and hundreds of workers onshore and

:07:20. > :07:23.offshore remain delayed or stranded. Early morning in Peterhead and the

:07:23. > :07:29.handling vessel brings the helicopter to land. There were 90

:07:29. > :07:32.men on board when it went down on Monday. All were rescued safely.

:07:32. > :07:38.Investigators are working as hard as possible to unlock the mystery

:07:38. > :07:45.of why it landed in the sea. Today, is manufacture revealed it may be a

:07:46. > :07:51.problem with the gearbox. We have some information about the pilot

:07:51. > :07:55.declaration. The accident investigator it related it to eight

:07:55. > :08:03.gearbox in the cockpit but we have to investigate it in more detail.

:08:03. > :08:09.The ditching of this 225 in May was caused by a folk -- Fawlty gearbox,

:08:09. > :08:13.so too was the crash a couple of years ago that killed 16 men. This

:08:13. > :08:18.afternoon, the industry's helicopter safety committee met in

:08:18. > :08:28.Aberdeen but there was no update from the Accident Investigation

:08:28. > :08:28.

:08:28. > :08:33.Bureau. It will concern people, but, at this stage, without knowing what

:08:33. > :08:42.the bureau has found, we cannot say with any confidence that it is the

:08:42. > :08:45.same issue. We need to wait for that report. A we are clearly

:08:45. > :08:51.concerned the workforce has an ongoing confidence issue in the

:08:51. > :08:55.fleet. But we will work hard to rebuild the confidence and

:08:55. > :09:00.communicate factually when information becomes available.

:09:00. > :09:03.their helicopter safely back on land, answers can be expected soon.

:09:03. > :09:10.Then the industry representatives we'll meet Again to decide what

:09:10. > :09:13.happens next. Within the last few minutes, the

:09:14. > :09:18.pilots' Association has said there are serious concerns amongst pilots

:09:18. > :09:24.that two types of ditching incidence should have happened so

:09:24. > :09:34.soon to two types of aircraft and if the incidents are links, -- Link,

:09:34. > :09:34.

:09:34. > :09:38.there will be serious concerns about the aircraft's safety. The

:09:38. > :09:42.company says they will keep the work forced informed. You're

:09:42. > :09:46.watching Reporting Scotland from the BBC. Still to come: How we

:09:46. > :09:49.lived in the past - history teachers start a national debate on

:09:49. > :09:51.what our children should learn. In sport, Neil Lennon on the

:09:51. > :09:54.positive side of Celtic's heartbreaking Champions' League

:09:54. > :10:04.defeat in Barcelona. And we'll be speaking to Scotland's head coach

:10:04. > :10:08.

:10:08. > :10:11.Andy Robinson as he names his squad The Prime Minister has intervened

:10:11. > :10:15.in the row over whether an independent Scotland would remain

:10:16. > :10:20.in the European Union. David Cameron told the Commons he was

:10:20. > :10:25.baffled that Alex Salmond was any now asking the law officers to give

:10:25. > :10:28.their views on the issues. For years, documents have confidently

:10:28. > :10:35.claimed Scotland would stay in EU, but the Scottish government

:10:35. > :10:40.admitted yesterday it was not based on specific legal advice.

:10:40. > :10:44.Damaging headlines for the first minister. Alex Salmond's put --

:10:44. > :10:48.credibility is being called into question by opponents who accuse

:10:48. > :10:53.him of misleading the public about whether an independent Scotland

:10:53. > :10:58.would remain in the EU. We were told, I believe, that he had legal

:10:58. > :11:01.advice about Scotland's place in the EU in the event of independence

:11:01. > :11:06.but it turned that they did not. I think what this shows is that when

:11:06. > :11:13.you shine the spotlight on the case for separation that the SNP put, it

:11:13. > :11:23.falls apart. For years, official Scottish government documents have

:11:23. > :11:45.

:11:45. > :11:50.been clear. In 2007, one document We now know there was no specific

:11:50. > :11:57.legal advice from law officers to back those statements at. As the

:11:57. > :12:07.Prime Minister was speaking in Westminster, SNP MSPs were

:12:07. > :12:12.

:12:12. > :12:16.gathering in Ollie macro. -- Haley I put David Cameron's play aims to

:12:16. > :12:26.the deputy first minister. Have you done your homework? I don't think

:12:26. > :12:29.the Prime Minister is in much We look forward to putting forward

:12:29. > :12:34.a positive case for independence and we look forward to winning a

:12:34. > :12:39.yes vote in 2014. But to win a referendum, the Scottish government

:12:39. > :12:44.will have to show they are credible in a whole series of areas,

:12:44. > :12:48.including Europe. Opponents see this as a week's Pop and are

:12:48. > :12:52.determined to exploit it. The Conservatives suggest that

:12:52. > :13:02.Scotland's top law officer should be summoned before MSPs. Be in no

:13:02. > :13:07.

:13:07. > :13:12.doubt, this row will rumble on. Dumfries and Galloway Council has

:13:12. > :13:17.expressed regret that concerns raised by gravediggers about child

:13:17. > :13:21.burials and exhumations were ignored until taken up by BBBC.

:13:21. > :13:24.They said managers ignored their complaints. An inquiry has now

:13:24. > :13:28.found that the council did not obtain exhumation licences and did

:13:28. > :13:33.not even know where such graves were.

:13:33. > :13:38.We had absolutely no idea that this had been happening because we had

:13:38. > :13:43.no way of recording a wet children were buried and at what depth of

:13:43. > :13:49.they were buried. That was bad practice and we have put things in

:13:49. > :13:52.place so that will not happen again. Police are carrying out a large-

:13:52. > :13:57.scale search of woodlands near Perth after a possible sighting of

:13:58. > :14:02.a prison on the run. There have been to attacks on women in the

:14:02. > :14:06.area in recent days. Aileen Clarke reports.

:14:06. > :14:12.From early this morning, a court and went up around this woodland on

:14:12. > :14:17.the outskirts of Perth. Leigh Cyrus is on the run from an open prison

:14:17. > :14:22.in Lincolnshire. He is now thought to be in the Tayside area. He was

:14:22. > :14:27.serving a life sentence. This morning off-duty officers saw a man

:14:27. > :14:37.fitting his description. He was dressed in muddy water Chris and

:14:37. > :14:39.

:14:39. > :14:45.We're asking householders if they see anything suspicious to contact

:14:45. > :14:51.the police and not to approach him it themselves. Please take sensible

:14:51. > :14:53.precautions and have your doors and windows locked.

:14:53. > :14:58.30 police officers and a police helicopter have been searching the

:14:58. > :15:03.dense woodland all day. The walks around the hell are popular with

:15:03. > :15:07.locals, some of he will worried about the events.

:15:07. > :15:11.It is a bit concerning. You do not think anything like this will

:15:11. > :15:15.happen in a quiet area like this one. I hope they catch him very

:15:15. > :15:19.soon. I have just brought my grandson

:15:19. > :15:23.here for a singing lesson. I saw all of the police officers and got

:15:23. > :15:27.more concerned as I went up the hill.

:15:27. > :15:34.A woman in Perth was assaulted in an attempted robbery a few days ago

:15:34. > :15:41.and another was assaulted in her home and her matches removed and

:15:41. > :15:44.put in the River Tay. An arrest warrant has not been

:15:44. > :15:50.issued in relation to the Perth crimes but they are keen to find

:15:50. > :15:52.Leigh Cyrus, who has a history of preying on vulnerable and elderly

:15:52. > :15:57.women. Let us take a look now at what else

:15:57. > :16:01.has been happening across the country this Wednesday.

:16:01. > :16:10.Latest official figures show a fall of 11 per cent in the number of

:16:10. > :16:15.people killed on Scotland's roads. The number of pedestrians seriously

:16:15. > :16:19.injured rose by 12 per cent, while the number of cyclists hurt rose by

:16:19. > :16:24.13 per cent. EU ministers have reached a

:16:24. > :16:29.provisional deal to reshape the Common Fisheries Policy. It aims to

:16:29. > :16:34.eradicate discards, where good fish are dumped back into the sea bed to

:16:34. > :16:40.meet critter targets. A one. 6 billion plan to extend

:16:40. > :16:43.the lifetime of North Sea oil field has been approved by the UK

:16:43. > :16:51.Government. It is hoped it will lead to the production and a

:16:51. > :16:54.further 100 million barrels of oil. A unique archive and collection of

:16:54. > :17:02.relics amassed 100 years ago by an African explorer, and Richard

:17:02. > :17:08.Cunningham, has sold at auction for nearly 45,000. A journal of his

:17:08. > :17:13.first expedition bet to Northern double the estimate.

:17:13. > :17:18.A landscape conservation charity has defended his proposal to kill

:17:18. > :17:23.up to 100 red deer stags to protect ancient woodlands. The John Muir

:17:23. > :17:27.Trust says its management of deer has been criticised locally. Rather

:17:27. > :17:32.than shoot the deer, at the Trust has been urged to fence off

:17:32. > :17:37.sensitive areas of trees but it says that offences are are

:17:37. > :17:41.offensive, ugly, expensive and prevent existing Tia from accessing

:17:41. > :17:47.the woodlands. You can find out more 24 hours a

:17:47. > :17:51.day on our website. Tributes have been paid to the

:17:52. > :17:57.singer-songwriter Michael Marra who has died at the age of 60. Be done

:17:57. > :18:01.seaborne artist passed away last night and had been ill for some

:18:01. > :18:07.time. This one is called free DeCarlo's

:18:07. > :18:12.visit to the Tay Bridge Bar. Quintessentially Scottish but

:18:12. > :18:19.undeniably done Devonian, Michael Marra was a unique mixture, a

:18:19. > :18:24.revered folk artist, local hero and musical genius.

:18:24. > :18:33.I think he is hugely important. I think a lot of people will know his

:18:33. > :18:42.songs are not necessarily know him. His songs have seeped into it

:18:42. > :18:49.Scottish public consciousness in a way that he would want.

:18:49. > :18:56.Mesic and family were the pillars of his life. His last tour was with

:18:56. > :19:01.a bans made up of his two children. He was a great family man who

:19:01. > :19:04.cherished his family and past generations. He wrote songs about

:19:04. > :19:09.them. His family have thanked the public

:19:09. > :19:15.for their kind words. In a statement they said his life work

:19:15. > :19:22.has told the family story and the story of his beloved to Dundee. His

:19:22. > :19:27.songs are his legacy, given to Scotland from the one we boy in the

:19:27. > :19:32.Lochee area of Dundee. Memories of Michael Marra there who

:19:32. > :19:37.died last night. Let us turn our attentions to sport now. David,

:19:37. > :19:40.what you have on us? The Celtic manager Neil Lennon says

:19:41. > :19:48.his team will get a huge psychological boost from their

:19:48. > :19:52.performance against Barcelona in the Champions' League. They lost 2-

:19:52. > :19:59.1 in the Nou Camp and agonisingly the goal came seconds from the end

:20:00. > :20:05.of the match. What can turn a manager from Mr this? This. They

:20:05. > :20:13.are playing the best team in the world, hanging on for I points,

:20:13. > :20:18.four minutes into injury time, are almost there. Almost, when. It is

:20:18. > :20:27.hard to take losing the game in the way that we did. I am so proud of

:20:27. > :20:34.the players. It has given the club a huge shot in the arm. Somewhat

:20:34. > :20:39.improbably, Celtic had taken the lead. A sublime equaliser brought

:20:39. > :20:45.Celtic back to earth and then there was that late, late winner.

:20:45. > :20:52.Meanwhile, in mosque the other teams in Group G were playing one

:20:53. > :20:58.another. Spartak mosque beat Benfica out 1-0. It is between the

:20:58. > :21:06.other three sides before the runners up slot. Barcelona will run

:21:07. > :21:10.away with the group. Spartak mosque and now just a point behind Celtic.

:21:10. > :21:19.The Scottish champions will hold onto their slip advantage if they

:21:19. > :21:25.beat Barcelona at Celtic part in two weeks. -- Celtic Park in two

:21:25. > :21:30.weeks. After last night, almost anything seems possible. The

:21:30. > :21:35.Premier League is punishing Hearts for the late payment of wages. This

:21:35. > :21:40.is the second month in a road that the pay roll has been late. A ban

:21:40. > :21:46.on signing it is one of a number of options they could have chosen.

:21:46. > :21:50.Scotland's head rugby coach, Andy Robinson, has named seven uncapped

:21:50. > :21:57.players in his line-up for the autumn Tests. They include Peter

:21:57. > :22:07.Horne and stewards McInally. He is yet to name his captain. --

:22:07. > :22:07.

:22:07. > :22:12.stewards McInally. It is autumn international time here at

:22:12. > :22:17.Murrayfield. South Africa and Tonga to come. First up, the world

:22:18. > :22:21.champions, the All Blacks. They couldn't score from anywhere. You

:22:21. > :22:28.have to perform for the full 80 minutes. You have to have

:22:28. > :22:34.consistency throughout. Injury heap has robs him of some big names. A

:22:34. > :22:39.chance then for new blood. There are seven uncapped players.

:22:39. > :22:43.Five of those did not go on the summer tour to Australia.

:22:43. > :22:48.The final squad will be announced after the training camp next week

:22:48. > :22:52.but with his preferred captain back for an injury, who will lead the

:22:52. > :22:55.side? That will be announced next week.

:22:55. > :23:02.You can tell me. I won't tell anyone.

:23:02. > :23:11.I think you will name Kelly grand. Am I correct?

:23:11. > :23:20.I cannot tell you until next week. Then to Rome much. Here is a

:23:20. > :23:24.question for you. 1066 of 1314? A national debate is being set up by

:23:24. > :23:30.the National Association of history teachers asking us what significant

:23:30. > :23:36.people and events our school pupils should find out about. Morag

:23:36. > :23:42.Kinniburgh reports. The military wives choir launching

:23:42. > :23:46.the Poppy Appeal, at a connection with the past keeping the history

:23:46. > :23:49.of war alive. But what parts of history should we teach our

:23:49. > :23:54.children and what should we leave out?

:23:54. > :24:02.It used to be lists of kings and queens and battles but now it is

:24:02. > :24:06.about a local house history and holistic experience. We once asked

:24:06. > :24:10.the public what their views are. What would they like to see young

:24:10. > :24:14.people learn about? The his days it is more about

:24:15. > :24:20.inspiring enthusiasm they are learning facts and figures by rote.

:24:20. > :24:26.It is important to use the internet and the media. Currently I am

:24:26. > :24:30.teaching slavery and we are producing a rap about this.

:24:30. > :24:33.Revolutions in blood and iron. Teachers stressed there should

:24:33. > :24:38.always be national and international history but they want
