:00:50. > :00:54.Lanarkshire, then we arrived in Dumfries Galloway. Locals watched
:00:55. > :00:57.the Raft of the river that burst its banks. They were worried by the
:00:58. > :01:03.heavy rain that had fallen overnight. All the residents were
:01:04. > :01:08.concerned about the rate it was rising. We got some sandbags from
:01:09. > :01:13.the council which was a great difficulty. We weren't prepared for
:01:14. > :01:21.this. It started rising very quickly. It has travelled about 12
:01:22. > :01:25.feet further up. As the waters rose, the owner of the house on the corner
:01:26. > :01:30.had to leave. Somebody phoned me to ask if I had seen what was
:01:31. > :01:40.happening. I was in bed, I walked out. Later on, it started to get
:01:41. > :01:46.worse, so I've just come away and left everything. I don't know what
:01:47. > :01:50.it is going to be like. 30 homes in the village had to be evacuated. The
:01:51. > :01:56.miners Memorial Hall became a place to take shelter. You just got to get
:01:57. > :02:04.on with that. It's an act of God, that's that. Nothing you can do
:02:05. > :02:10.about it. What's the damage like? It is cordoned off, then not allowing
:02:11. > :02:15.us into the place. Meanwhile, firefighters worked all day to help.
:02:16. > :02:21.They had to get some people out by dinghy. It rose pretty quickly. It
:02:22. > :02:26.took the residents by surprise. At 10:30am this morning, the Fire and
:02:27. > :02:31.Rescue Service will called to the scene. We got our boats and other
:02:32. > :02:37.resources into place to affect rescues. You can see from the lines
:02:38. > :02:42.on the walls that are water is starting to recede. It looks like
:02:43. > :02:46.there might be some respite for now. But there is heavy rain predicted
:02:47. > :02:50.for overnight. And how the saturated ground reacts to that is a worry.
:02:51. > :02:57.And the clean-up will take some time.

:03:34. > :03:35.tonight. The event marks the official start of the capital's
:03:36. > :03:40.Hogmanay celebrations, and the beginning of Scotland's Year of
:03:41. > :03:43.Homecoming 2014. As with last year, the procession will be led by
:03:44. > :03:52.Shetland's Up Helly Aa Vikings, and the massed pipes and drums.
:03:53. > :03:57.Year-on-year, we break the record for attendance. Last year we had
:03:58. > :04:01.35,000 people who took part in the procession. This year, we are
:04:02. > :04:06.expecting the same numbers. We have sold out earlier than we have in
:04:07. > :04:09.previous years. So there is a big interest at the start of the event
:04:10. > :04:11.over the three days and tickets have gone very well.
:04:12. > :04:14.In football, the St Mirren captain Jim Goodwin has been banned for two

:04:32. > :04:36.unbeaten in the league, and 11 points clear at the top. Kheredine
:04:37. > :04:44.Idessane has a round-up of yesterday's matches.
:04:45. > :04:49.Played 18, 115, lost none. Those are the stats as Neil Lennon's men ring

:05:56. > :06:03.Stevenson scored. The honours were even at Saint Mirren Park when the
:06:04. > :06:07.home side got off to a flyer for the team.
:06:08. > :06:17.Now let's get the latest weather forecast, from Judith Ralston.
:06:18. > :06:20.Good evening. It seems to me that the weather is very repetitive in
:06:21. > :06:25.nature. What we are seeing our weather front crossing the country.
:06:26. > :06:29.The next weather system is waiting in the wings but it won't bring the
:06:30. > :06:35.amount of rain we saw today. Then there is another one pushing in
:06:36. > :06:42.making somewhat windy conditions. This evening, we have dry weather,
:06:43. > :06:48.clear skies, some frost as well and the ice risk for the north-east.
:06:49. > :06:54.Cloud the giving up in the West. -- thickening up. Temperatures, four
:06:55. > :07:00.Celsius in the West, cold in the East. Strong winds. So, tomorrow,
:07:01. > :07:06.there is a yellow warning for some rain across the north and Central
:07:07. > :07:11.belt. But it's not the persistence or the heaviness of the rain, but
:07:12. > :07:19.the fact it's falling on saturated ground. The rain band falls away,
:07:20. > :07:27.it'll become drier for money of us. Then some showers into the West.
:07:28. > :07:31.Butchers, seven or eight. So, if you're heading out for New Year's
:07:32. > :07:36.Eve, we will see a band of showers crossing early in the evening. We're
:07:37. > :07:43.thinking about a lot of dry weather at midnight. Wrap up if you're
:07:44. > :07:48.heading out. On the whole, it is going to stay dry. Wrap up and have
:07:49. > :07:53.a good one. All change as we head into New Year's Day. As an early
:07:54. > :07:58.warning for rain through the south and central parts of Scotland. It
:07:59. > :08:02.starts try Bob first of all, then we see rain pushing, accompanied by
:08:03. > :08:09.strengthening winds. The far north staying dry at the rain extending
:08:10. > :08:13.here. Already sensitive areas will be saturated. It is going to be
:08:14. > :08:16.windy, too. Thanks, Judith. And that's all for
:08:17. > :08:19.now. Reporting Scotland's back after the ten o'clock news tonight. Join

:08:22. > :08:41.evening. Another day off strong winds, heavy
:08:42. > :08:45.rain and flooding. At least things are quiet at the moment. The rain
:08:46. > :08:51.has cleared off and the wind is lighter. There might be some ice in
:08:52. > :08:52.Scotland, but through the night, the wind
