:00:16. > :00:19.Good evening. On the final day of the SNP conference, the First

:00:20. > :00:22.Minister, Alex Salmond, has made an explicit pitch to women voters in

:00:23. > :00:25.the independence referendum. He promoted two women to his Cabinet

:00:26. > :00:28.and said that companies in an independent Scotland should aspire

:00:29. > :00:31.to have women make up at least 40% of their boards. Our political

:00:32. > :00:34.editor Brian Taylor reports from Aberdeen.

:00:35. > :00:39.SNP delegates don't need convincing to vote yes but people outside the

:00:40. > :00:44.conference hall do and women seem notably reluctant. Alex Salmond

:00:45. > :00:48.announced two women will join his Cabinet. He said company boards

:00:49. > :00:52.should be 40% female as a minimum and applied that rule to Government.

:00:53. > :00:56.If these outstanding ministers in the Cabinet we will practise what we

:00:57. > :01:01.preach. The cabinet is our board as a country and women will make up 40%

:01:02. > :01:05.of the members of the Scottish Cabinet. MrSalmond also stressed his

:01:06. > :01:09.offer to enhance child care under independence. He said his wider

:01:10. > :01:13.pitch was inclusive, a vote for independence was not a vote for the

:01:14. > :01:17.SNP, it might lead it a Scottish Labour Government but again

:01:18. > :01:21.appealing to Labour voters he said one scenario was ruled out. The era

:01:22. > :01:24.of Tory governments unelected by the people of Scotland handing out

:01:25. > :01:36.punishment to the poor and the disabled, these days will be gone

:01:37. > :01:42.and gone for good. The conference closed in customary

:01:43. > :01:49.fashion. Delegates now face an unprecedented challenge, to win the

:01:50. > :01:52.independence referendum. Meanwhile, supporters of the Union

:01:53. > :01:56.say there was nothing new in the First Minister's conference address.

:01:57. > :01:59.And that it was more of the same from a party who seem reluctant to

:02:00. > :02:01.answer the big questions over what independence would truly mean for

:02:02. > :02:04.Scotland. A Scottish businessman has died from

:02:05. > :02:07.catastrophic injuries after a skiing accident in the French Alps. Its

:02:08. > :02:11.understood that Jeremy Salvesen, who was 51 and from Elie in Fife, fell

:02:12. > :02:14.and hit his head on a rock on Thursday.

:02:15. > :02:17.A public protest has been held in Inverness following the deaths of 19

:02:18. > :02:20.birds of prey in Ross-shire. Tests have confirmed the majority of them

:02:21. > :02:26.had been poisoned. Our reporter Jackie O'Brien was there.

:02:27. > :02:31.People of all ages and from all walks of life gathered in the

:02:32. > :02:36.Highland capital today to share their disgust at the poisoning of

:02:37. > :02:39.the much-loved birds of prey. This is murder, pure and simple, whether

:02:40. > :02:44.it's a bird or a human being, this is murder. Someone out there is

:02:45. > :02:50.shielding whoever is doing this. Where I live I see the kites on a

:02:51. > :02:56.daily basis and I miss them. There's been huge public revulsion at this

:02:57. > :02:59.incident... The protesters carried bird-shaped placards, and a crime

:03:00. > :03:06.scene was depicted on the streets to highlight the growing threat to the

:03:07. > :03:11.area's wildlife. We have to see the police and ure procurate service

:03:12. > :03:16.take this seriously. We have to see potential changes in the law to

:03:17. > :03:21.ensure that this cannot continue. Tests have confirmed that 12 of the

:03:22. > :03:25.dead birds found were poisoned and earlier this week police searched

:03:26. > :03:30.local farms for clues. A reward is still being offered for information

:03:31. > :03:38.that could bring an end to the single worst persecution of a

:03:39. > :03:46.NSPCCsy the RSPB -- of a species the RSPB have seen in Scotland.

:03:47. > :03:49.Dundee United have gone through to the Scottish Cup final. They

:03:50. > :03:52.defeated Rangers 3-1 in today's semi-final at Ibrox. United went

:03:53. > :03:54.two-up in the first half with a deflected shot by Gary

:03:55. > :03:57.Mackay-Steven. Steven Smith's free kick reduced Rangers' deficit before

:03:58. > :04:00.half-time. But a mistake by Rangers' keeper Steve Simonsen allowed Nadir

:04:01. > :04:05.Chifchi to make the tie safe. Time for the weather outlook.

:04:06. > :04:13.It's been a windy day today and that continues. The north and west are

:04:14. > :04:17.suffering the most with the wind. Gusts of up to 60mph there. Windy

:04:18. > :04:22.elsewhere. Showers feeding through from the west tonight, as well. We

:04:23. > :04:26.have temperatures down to about five or six. Come the morning the showers

:04:27. > :04:30.start to merge into longer spells of rain, heavy at times in the north

:04:31. > :04:33.and west. And spread outwards through the day. More protected in

:04:34. > :04:36.the east, that's where the best of any sunshine will be where there are

:04:37. > :04:40.more breaks in the cloud. You are still likely to see one or two

:04:41. > :04:43.showers. Still windy, as well. To the south more cloud so less

:04:44. > :04:50.sunshine and the showers join you later. Temperatures reaching 11 or

:04:51. > :04:54.12 to the east and the south. We have slightly cooler conditions

:04:55. > :04:57.elsewhere. Monday we have got high pressure building so things settle

:04:58. > :05:00.down somewhat. Our next bulletin is tomorrow

:05:01. > :05:05.afternoon. Until then, have a good night, bye.

:05:06. > :05:19.We start with a look at the latest satellite sequence, because it shows

:05:20. > :05:23.what has been going on over the last few hours. This band of cloud has

:05:24. > :05:25.been slipping south across England and Wales. A bit of patchy rain to

:05:26. > :05:26.come
