:00:07. > :00:10.Several hundred anti-poverty campaigners have met in Glasgow with

:00:11. > :00:14.a call to end zero-hour contracts and support better wages.

:00:15. > :00:17.The gathering came on the day a major new report said those

:00:18. > :00:19.in poverty should be more involved in finding ways to tackle it.

:00:20. > :00:31.Poverty continues to be one of the big issues facing the country today.

:00:32. > :00:39.Now one organisation says the way to tackle the problem is by getting

:00:40. > :00:42.everyone involved. Today in Glasgow antipoverty campaigners, politicians

:00:43. > :00:46.and others supported that message, put forward by the Poverty Truth

:00:47. > :00:50.Commission which outlined its vision for change following a two-year

:00:51. > :00:55.investigation. At the heart of what the report says is that, until we

:00:56. > :01:00.choose to directly involve people who live in poverty, day in, day

:01:01. > :01:05.out, we won't make the differences that we need to The Commission make.

:01:06. > :01:12.Recommended an end to the practice of employing people on zero-hours

:01:13. > :01:16.contracts. It said fuel bills could be reduced by improving home

:01:17. > :01:22.insulation. It called on the public to back a fairer living wage for the

:01:23. > :01:25.low paid. Trisha who works to help residents in this area say people

:01:26. > :01:30.aren't often given the opportunities they deserve. People are actually in

:01:31. > :01:34.jobs. Some people who don't want to be in those particular jobs. They

:01:35. > :01:38.want to find jobs they have the skills for, not having to take jobs

:01:39. > :01:42.that do not sit with them comfortably. As well as the report

:01:43. > :01:48.itself, today's gathering was also intended to send the message that

:01:49. > :01:50.where ever Scotland's future lies more must be done to combat poverty

:01:51. > :01:56.right now. Thousands of people have come out to

:01:57. > :01:59.see the Queen's Baton Relay make It's visited a children's hospital,

:02:00. > :02:02.a sports gala and finishes up tonight at

:02:03. > :02:13.a celebration event in Kilmarnock. Even at 8. 30am, hundreds came out

:02:14. > :02:23.to see the baton begin its journey at a sports gala. Both young and old

:02:24. > :02:29.celebrated the day. Honouring people like 16-year-old Gillian Johnson

:02:30. > :02:32.who, despite being registered blind, dyslexic and hearing impaired, has

:02:33. > :02:38.fought against the odds to succeed in athletics. It's been an amazing

:02:39. > :02:43.experience. The baton is a beautiful thing. To be carrying something that

:02:44. > :02:47.travelled 70 countries and when you hold it, you're speechless. The

:02:48. > :02:52.crowds were magnificent. You know, you want to saviour the moment.

:02:53. > :03:00.Once-in-a-lifetime much I will never forget it. Despite his Thistle

:03:01. > :03:03.hands, Clyde carried the baton through the children's ward of this

:03:04. > :03:11.hospital, reaching out to all parts of the community. Tomorrow, it's the

:03:20. > :03:22.off one of Scotland's highest mountains after hurting his ankle

:03:23. > :03:24.while climbing in flip-flops. The man and two friends were

:03:25. > :03:27.exploring Aonach Mor near Lochaber Mountain Rescue

:03:28. > :03:33.Team were called to the scene. More than 700 competitors took part

:03:34. > :03:36.in the Highland Cross running They ran 20 miles from Kintail

:03:37. > :03:40.in the west up through Glen Affric, and then cycled a further 30 miles

:03:41. > :03:51.down to Beauly in the east, raising You are vulnerable to cramping up on

:03:52. > :03:55.the bike. You have to change the position a little bit. A lot of

:03:56. > :03:59.people come unstuck. I'm not sure there is much you can do to prevent

:04:00. > :04:03.it. It's luck of the draw if you manage to come out unscathed. We

:04:04. > :04:09.have had lovely weather over the last week, will it continue? It's

:04:10. > :04:14.not looking to bad. It wasn't a bad day at all. We saw brighter sunny

:04:24. > :04:29.with the introduction of rain here. It will be a mild night, 10-11

:04:30. > :04:33.Celsius at the lowest. Any mist patches tomorrow morning will clear

:04:34. > :04:37.quickly. Outbreaks of rain to the north-west corner will make enrodes

:04:38. > :04:41.in the east, more persistent in the west. It will miss the southern half

:04:42. > :04:48.of the country, good news for the baton tomorrow. The rain will spread

:04:49. > :04:53.across north. Lighter across eastern areas. Temperatures tomorrow cooler
