:00:11. > :00:12.Rosdeep Adekoya claimed Mikaeel Kular had disappeared

:00:13. > :00:17.from their Edinburgh home, sparking a massive search.

:00:18. > :00:19.She'd actually beaten him, before travelling to Kirkcaldy

:00:20. > :00:25.Fife Council says it will conduct a significant case review.

:00:26. > :00:34.Also on the programme, the medals roll in for Team Scotland. Kula Ross

:00:35. > :00:37.Neil Fachie takes a para-cycling gold in the velodrome, with some

:00:44. > :00:50.A new swimming star emerges - we're at Ross Murdoch's

:00:51. > :00:58.Dunbartonshire swimming club after his gold medal win.

:00:59. > :01:02.Even myself, I always knew he was going to make it very far in the

:01:03. > :01:06.sport and do very well. And Carnoustie gets a shot

:01:07. > :01:20.of the Commonwealth Games action. The disappearance of little

:01:21. > :01:25.Mikaeel Kular in January prompted Hundreds of volunteers were told

:01:26. > :01:30.they were looking for a three-year-old boy wandering

:01:31. > :01:34.the streets in his pyjamas. We know now that his mother,

:01:35. > :01:36.Rosdeep Adekoya, had beaten him so badly that he'd

:01:37. > :01:40.died at home from his injuries. Today, in court,

:01:41. > :01:43.she admitted killing her son, putting his body in a suitcase and

:01:44. > :01:47.burying it in woods in Kirkcaldy. Catriona Renton is at the High Court

:01:48. > :01:56.in Edinburgh. It was here today where

:01:57. > :01:59.Rosdeep Adekoya pleaded guilty to She had been charged with murder

:02:00. > :02:26.but the Crown accepted her plea to the lesser charge of culpable

:02:27. > :02:29.homicide as they accept she had no This was a story that grabbed the

:02:30. > :02:33.attention of the nation. It was said that a little boy just

:02:34. > :02:37.three feet tall had managed to get But, all the time that people

:02:38. > :02:44.searched, Mikaeel was already dead. Today Rosdeep Adekoya admitted in

:02:45. > :02:47.court that she killed her son. He had not been at nursery since the

:02:48. > :02:52.Christmas holidays and because he was sick he did not go with his

:02:53. > :02:56.brothers and sisters on the 13th of January. His mother says she put him

:02:57. > :03:04.to bed on the 15th and when she went to wake him he was not there. She

:03:05. > :03:10.dialled 999. She said she thought Mikaeel had climbed up onto a stool

:03:11. > :03:12.and unlock the door of their flat. But while she said this she knew

:03:13. > :03:16.that her little But while she said this she knew

:03:17. > :03:25.for least 24 hours. But while she said this she knew

:03:26. > :03:32.flat as darkness fell on another winter's night. The surge grew and

:03:33. > :03:36.hundreds of people, neighbours, the police, the Coast Guard and the

:03:37. > :03:40.public, combed the area and further afield.

:03:41. > :03:46.The community came together, there were young children, youths who were

:03:47. > :03:52.normally bad boys were getting involved. It is just the fact that

:03:53. > :03:57.this community was United was outstanding.

:03:58. > :04:04.There was no sign of Mikaeel. The search became nationwide, and then

:04:05. > :04:08.the news that everybody dreaded. We have recovered the body of a

:04:09. > :04:17.young boy in Fife shortly before midnight.

:04:18. > :04:21.Mikaeel's body was found 25 miles away in woodland behind his aunt's

:04:22. > :04:25.house. The mother and her children had lived there 18 months

:04:26. > :04:29.previously. On the Sunday before he died, the court was told, his mother

:04:30. > :04:34.had gone out for dinner with her children. When they got home the

:04:35. > :04:40.child was sick. His mum lost her temper and hit him. That happened on

:04:41. > :04:44.three occasions that evening. Mikaeel suffered more than 40

:04:45. > :04:48.injuries and it is thought a blow to his abdomen caused his death. He got

:04:49. > :04:51.worse over the next couple of days. His mother was worried about the

:04:52. > :04:55.bruising so did not take him to His mother was worried about the

:04:56. > :05:01.doctor. He died in the night after he went to bed on the Tuesday.

:05:02. > :05:05.Rosdeep Adekoya wrapped him in a duvet, put him in a suitcase and

:05:06. > :05:10.drove him to the spot where she buried him. The local community and

:05:11. > :05:15.far beyond were devastated that Mikaeel was dead, heart rating and

:05:16. > :05:19.to a search that could never have ended any other way. The court heard

:05:20. > :05:25.that social services were keeping an eye on the family. In May 2012 it

:05:26. > :05:29.said that the mother's attitude changed and she was going out

:05:30. > :05:33.drinking. After leaving the children over -- alone after night, Mikaeel

:05:34. > :05:40.and his twin were taken into care but the following year they lived

:05:41. > :05:46.back together again. The family had been monitored by social services

:05:47. > :05:52.but by December that stopped. Today Mikaeel's father was in court to

:05:53. > :05:55.hear how his son died. He gave no reaction. Neighbours who had been

:05:56. > :06:00.part of the surge spoke after hearing what had happened.

:06:01. > :06:09.There will be a lot of angry people here. I am one of them.

:06:10. > :06:13.Mikaeel's death was tragic. Rosdeep Adekoya will live with this for the

:06:14. > :06:16.rest of her life. And Rosdeep Adekoya will be

:06:17. > :06:20.sentenced here at the High Court in Edinburgh next month.

:06:21. > :06:23.Her lawyer said she is not a monster but a young mother with

:06:24. > :06:26.Tonight Fife Council has said that it and officers from

:06:27. > :06:28.Edinburgh Council will conduct a significant case review to

:06:29. > :06:38.see what lessons can be learned from this little boy's death.

:06:39. > :06:40.Let's turn to the Commonwealth Games now,

:06:41. > :06:43.and more Scottish medals this afternoon.

:06:44. > :06:46.Our reporter Lisa Summers is at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome

:06:47. > :07:02.It is a great deal quieter than it was a couple of hours ago, when Leon

:07:03. > :07:08.-- Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean took to the track in the tandem time

:07:09. > :07:16.trial. Craig MacLean is one of the riders that one Scotland's first

:07:17. > :07:24.ever meant -- medal in 2006. He switched to riding tandem. Neil

:07:25. > :07:28.Fachie is the current Olympic gold medallist. In the Olympics they were

:07:29. > :07:29.riding with different partners and they were reunited for the

:07:30. > :07:33.Commonwealth Games and they gave they were reunited for the

:07:34. > :07:37.their best in front of the home crowd.

:07:38. > :07:42.This is where you have to dig so deep. Well of noise them around the

:07:43. > :07:46.arena. They lost a fraction of time catching one of the sponges on the

:07:47. > :07:53.inside of the track. It is gold for Scotland! Gold the Neil Fachie! A

:07:54. > :07:56.standing ovation inside the velodrome and the Paralympic world

:07:57. > :08:06.champion is now the Commonwealth champion. The half lap was like

:08:07. > :08:12.pedalling through treacle, well over a second in front of their

:08:13. > :08:17.opponents. We went so fast and paid for it a

:08:18. > :08:21.lot, the last lap was our most painful experience and I am glad we

:08:22. > :08:30.could hang on and do this for the crowd. I am so proud. The first part

:08:31. > :08:34.of the race you can't -- caught up in everything you have done in

:08:35. > :08:38.training, and then you get caught up in fatigue and you are aware of the

:08:39. > :08:42.occasion and the crowd and the noise keeps you going for the last couple

:08:43. > :08:48.of laps. They will be back out on the track

:08:49. > :08:54.tomorrow, as will another Scot, Katy Archibald. She could only finish

:08:55. > :08:58.fourth in her first event, the 3000 metres individual pursuit, but this

:08:59. > :09:02.20-year-old is a rising star in Scottish cycling and she has another

:09:03. > :09:07.four events in the Commonwealth Games in which to shine.

:09:08. > :09:09.Let's find out about another potential success

:09:10. > :09:12.Our sports presenter Rhona McLeod is by the River Clyde

:09:13. > :09:15.And you have news of another Scottish medal

:09:16. > :09:29.I do indeed, and it is another gold in judo. After last night's

:09:30. > :09:34.glittering performances, a short while ago Sarah Clark from Edinburgh

:09:35. > :09:39.was fighting for gold in the 63 kilograms category, hoping to better

:09:40. > :09:45.the silver medal she won at the Manchester Commonwealth Games 12

:09:46. > :10:00.years ago. Here is how it happened. This is the transition now. She has

:10:01. > :10:04.got the roll and now she is going to go for the arm. The arm is out

:10:05. > :10:11.straight, she gets the submission. That is the gold medal.

:10:12. > :10:18.I feel like I have done it because of the crowd as well. I have my

:10:19. > :10:29.family and friends here, and the clubs and stuff, and this was for

:10:30. > :10:33.Scotland and for them as well. Patrick Dawson has lost in his

:10:34. > :10:38.bronze medal fight and we are still waiting to hear about Sally Conway.

:10:39. > :10:43.The standard was set last night by the Renicks sisters. I caught up

:10:44. > :10:48.with them this morning and they explained the financial and personal

:10:49. > :10:52.cost to them of winning gold. Unknown yesterday but sporting

:10:53. > :10:55.history today, the sisters are enjoying all of their well-deserved

:10:56. > :11:00.attention brought by their fig trees last night.

:11:01. > :11:09.I am so proud and overwhelmed, it is a great experience to kick off with

:11:10. > :11:12.a medal. Our dad sent a really nice text in the morning saying whatever

:11:13. > :11:17.happens he is proud of us anyway but he said he believed we could medal.

:11:18. > :11:22.Today at their home in he said he believed we could medal.

:11:23. > :11:30.their parents admitted yesterday's action brought other emotions.

:11:31. > :11:35.Really nervous, and relief as well. We know they have been working up to

:11:36. > :11:41.this. We knew they would get a medal, we were hoping for gold, and

:11:42. > :11:48.that is what they got. With the two of them getting it it is even

:11:49. > :11:51.better, so now we can celebrate. The sisters are also carers for

:11:52. > :11:58.Agnes, who suffers from a neurological condition.

:11:59. > :12:10.You must be very close to the girl as well, does that make it special?

:12:11. > :12:14.It does, but don't tell them that! The sisters have received great

:12:15. > :12:19.support from their family but they revealed the enormous financial cost

:12:20. > :12:26.of the campaign to win gold. It is about ?25,000. Judo is a

:12:27. > :12:29.national sport all around the world so you have to travel to other

:12:30. > :12:33.national sport all around the world places to get the fights and the

:12:34. > :12:40.competitions, it is not like you just travel down to England and

:12:41. > :12:43.back, you go to Samoa, Japan, the other end of the world, and then

:12:44. > :12:46.France and that, other end of the world, and then

:12:47. > :12:49.travelling, but this is what we wanted to do.

:12:50. > :12:52.travelling, but this is what we Are these financial hits of concern

:12:53. > :12:59.to Sportscotland? We think we have a good system.

:13:00. > :13:07.There is no doubt that we have to set a standard and we think we have

:13:08. > :13:10.a good partnership at the moment and we will continue to try to improve

:13:11. > :13:17.it. Where did the gold medals rest last

:13:18. > :13:22.night? I had it just by my bed so I could see it when I woke up in the

:13:23. > :13:27.morning. Well done to the Renicks sisters,

:13:28. > :13:34.but I am going back in the whole three, definitely the place to see,

:13:35. > :13:38.to see if Sally Conway can win that bronze medal. More judo tomorrow,

:13:39. > :13:42.including Scotland's flag bearer, bronze medal. More judo tomorrow,

:13:43. > :13:53.we look forward to bringing you details of that.

:13:54. > :13:56.The 20-year-old swimmer surprised everyone last night

:13:57. > :13:58.when he beat the Team Scotland poster boy, Michael Jamieson,

:13:59. > :14:03.Aileen Clarke has been to the town where he learned to swim.

:14:04. > :14:10.In Vale of Lieven in western bar to ensure the talk today was of the

:14:11. > :14:18.local lad whose medal has given the area something to smile about. We

:14:19. > :14:22.were talking about that young boy in the bookies, how great he was. It is

:14:23. > :14:25.good to get some good news for a change.

:14:26. > :14:27.Last night it seemed Ross Murdoch could not leave what he had done,

:14:28. > :14:36.smashing his personal best Commonwealth record.

:14:37. > :14:44.I want to get some sleep eventually. It took me some time to understand

:14:45. > :14:49.what I did and I finally got some sleep, about five hours. Team-mate

:14:50. > :14:53.Michael Jamieson was quick to pay is the man who beat him to gold. He has

:14:54. > :14:59.written his name in the history books last night but I know he will

:15:00. > :15:04.have his eye on the 100 as well. He will be dangerous tomorrow night in

:15:05. > :15:08.the final. At the Vale of Lieven swimming pool

:15:09. > :15:13.where Ross used to swim and his dad coaches they were glued to the 100

:15:14. > :15:19.metres heat this morning and still basking in last night's victory.

:15:20. > :15:28.Fantastic, this will have a big effect on the whole area. I am

:15:29. > :15:31.absolutely thrilled that he came home with the gold medal, it is

:15:32. > :15:38.fantastic for Scotland that they have those boys on the podium. This

:15:39. > :15:44.was Ross's club and pool until he went to university so there is

:15:45. > :15:49.immense pride here. The members here swam with him, met with him, there

:15:50. > :15:57.were shouts, tears, every emotion, and all of these guys were glued to

:15:58. > :16:00.the TV last night. It was amazing. Even from the age of 12 training

:16:01. > :16:08.partners say Ross's talent was clear. Even from that age he stood

:16:09. > :16:12.out with his natural talent and even myself I always knew he was going to

:16:13. > :16:17.make it very far in the sport and do very well.

:16:18. > :16:24.There are some very excited people in the pool. Who watched the

:16:25. > :16:28.swimming last night? Me! What do you want to say the Ross today? Go,

:16:29. > :16:32.Ross, go, Ross... Although Glasgow is hosting

:16:33. > :16:35.the Games, not all of the events Apart from the triathlon at

:16:36. > :16:39.Strathclyde Park, and the diving in Edinburgh, the most remote venue is

:16:40. > :16:42.the shooting at Carnoustie. That got under way today, and although the

:16:43. > :16:45.Scots haven't done so well, there's been plenty to keep

:16:46. > :16:56.the crowds entertained, It is over 90 miles away from

:16:57. > :17:03.Glasgow but the spirit of the games is very much alive here, a venue

:17:04. > :17:07.more commonly used by the MoD, now transformed into an impressive

:17:08. > :17:13.harbour of action for the shooting. It is very different, a different

:17:14. > :17:18.kind of shooting to the military would use. It is a temporary build

:17:19. > :17:21.and we are using an existing range as well.

:17:22. > :17:27.The crowds have certainly enjoyed what I have seen so far. It is

:17:28. > :17:32.fantastic and it is really important if there is something on your

:17:33. > :17:36.doorstep to support it. It is a good venue, unbelievable weather. This is

:17:37. > :17:41.the only time we have come up and it is sunny, unbelievable. What about

:17:42. > :17:47.the competitors? It has been a tough day for some of the Scots. Sian

:17:48. > :17:52.Bruce followed to qualify in the women's skeet event. Can we expect

:17:53. > :17:58.more from the Queens prize pairs? I spoke to one of the Scots involved

:17:59. > :18:05.in today's's events. You have to shoot 1000 yards, how do

:18:06. > :18:14.you do it? It is not that different from shooting 50 or 25 metres, but

:18:15. > :18:19.it is the wind the thing - that is the thing, so you need to read the

:18:20. > :18:24.wind. That is just what we do, it is fun and challenging.

:18:25. > :18:34.It has been a fantastic day here today, the weather has been

:18:35. > :18:40.spectacular, but the haar is coming in. We should see the conclusion of

:18:41. > :18:44.the 600 yards tomorrow. Both spectators and athletes will be

:18:45. > :18:48.hoping the weather holds out for tomorrow. As these competitors from

:18:49. > :18:51.Antigua may find out later in the week, the weather is not always like

:18:52. > :18:55.this at Carnoustie. Meanwhile,

:18:56. > :18:56.the Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has said there was "no question"

:18:57. > :18:59.that the Red Arrows would change the colour of their smoke trails to

:19:00. > :19:02.represent the Scottish flag His remarks follow reports that

:19:03. > :19:05.the RAF aerobatic team was forced to change its smoke from blue

:19:06. > :19:08.and white to its usual red, Glasgow 2014 says there had been

:19:09. > :19:14.discussions over using blue and white smoke, but that this was

:19:15. > :19:20.not "formally requested". Dozens of schools across Scotland

:19:21. > :19:22.are delaying the introduction of new-look Highers in popular

:19:23. > :19:24.subjects. That's according to research for BBC Scotland. The exams

:19:25. > :19:28.are being introduced this year to tie them in with the replacement for

:19:29. > :19:32.Standard Grades. But some schools have chosen to hold off for a year.

:19:33. > :19:36.The Scottish government said last year that schools could delay the

:19:37. > :19:52.new Highers for a year, if it was in Thousands of music fans are and then

:19:53. > :19:57.Friesen Galloway for the annual wicker man festival. They will see

:19:58. > :20:06.acts including Delaunay tree and Dizzee Rascal. It is the 13th year

:20:07. > :20:10.of the festival but it is competing for viewers with a certain sporting

:20:11. > :20:15.event. For us to be 100 miles outside of

:20:16. > :20:22.Glasgow and not expect it to have an impact was very naive. There are far

:20:23. > :20:25.fewer people here this year but those who are here will have a

:20:26. > :20:30.fantastic time, with more grass to sit on and more beer to drink.

:20:31. > :20:32.Back now to Glasgow's hosting of the Commonwealth Games.

:20:33. > :20:35.Let's just take a moment to reflect on how the city's been handling

:20:36. > :20:37.the hundreds of thousands of visitors this week.

:20:38. > :20:40.Our Games reporter Jane Lewis is at George Square in the city centre.

:20:41. > :20:43.Jane, give us a sense of how the organisers - and indeed the visitors

:20:44. > :20:51.Take a look at this place, it is heaving. People are queueing up to

:20:52. > :20:56.get their hands on heaving. People are queueing up to

:20:57. > :21:02.goodies, even queueing up to get their picture taken in front of this

:21:03. > :21:07.wonderful colourful structure. There are around an extra 100,000 people

:21:08. > :21:12.coming to the city everyday and it seems on the face of it that they

:21:13. > :21:17.city is coping pretty well with the extra demand. People keep talking

:21:18. > :21:21.about the friendliness of the locals and in terms of transport I have not

:21:22. > :21:25.heard too many complaints about people getting to the games. There

:21:26. > :21:29.have been no horror stories of people struggling to get to the

:21:30. > :21:35.venues and the people working in the city it has been pretty quiet on

:21:36. > :21:41.that front. It is only two days in the Glasgow 2014 but I wonder if it

:21:42. > :21:49.points to the transport system being put in place before the game all

:21:50. > :21:55.working pretty smoothly. Last night Team Scotland 110 medals and today

:21:56. > :22:06.they have added two, and they have been gold medals. Let's have a look

:22:07. > :22:09.at the table. There could be more in the swimming this evening, look out

:22:10. > :22:14.for Robbie Rennick and James Wallace.

:22:15. > :22:18.Police Scotland say they will be mounting their biggest ever

:22:19. > :22:21.operation in Glasgow, mounting their biggest ever

:22:22. > :22:25.expecting the biggest ever weekend of the games.

:22:26. > :22:30.expecting the biggest ever weekend under way at Ibrox tomorrow,

:22:31. > :22:33.continuing on Sunday. The athletics events get under way on Sunday as

:22:34. > :22:39.well so they will be the hot spots. There will be cultural events taking

:22:40. > :22:43.place as well tied in with the games, extra people going to

:22:44. > :22:53.specific areas around the city, but it is fair to say it is only day two

:22:54. > :23:11.but was go 14 looks so far, so good. -- blahs go 2014. Glasgow 2014.

:23:12. > :23:19.Here is the earlier satellite picture, almost wall-to-wall

:23:20. > :23:24.sunshine, and the haar will extend across a good part of eastern
