:00:00. > :00:07.There's more throughout the evening on the BBC News Channel.

:00:08. > :00:09.The two sides in the referendum debate in Scotland

:00:10. > :00:12.are taking part in a final and hectic weekend of campaigning before

:00:13. > :00:18.It came as a row intensified over the

:00:19. > :00:21.intervention of business leaders and banks in the independence debate.

:00:22. > :00:22.Our political correspondent David Porter has been

:00:23. > :00:35.It is getting closer and closer, in more ways than one. The final

:00:36. > :00:40.Saturday, the busiest day of political campaigning that Scotland

:00:41. > :00:46.has ever seen. Both sides trying to win over undecided voters. The First

:00:47. > :00:53.Minister continued his tour of Scotland by helicopter, making his

:00:54. > :00:57.argument for a yes vote on Thursday. The theory of the No campaign with

:00:58. > :01:03.this negative campaigning is their Achilles heel. How can they compete

:01:04. > :01:06.with the Yes campaign that Scotland can be a prosperous society for you

:01:07. > :01:10.are going to do is corralled the supermarkets into Downing Street to

:01:11. > :01:15.try and persuade them to scare the Scottish people at the last minute.

:01:16. > :01:20.Marching through Glasgow, better together so they are out the length

:01:21. > :01:24.and breadth of Scotland, demanding answers from their opponents. Every

:01:25. > :01:27.government is temporary and every politician is temporary but

:01:28. > :01:30.independence is for ever. There is no going back if it does not work

:01:31. > :01:36.out the way that Alex Salmond says. We cannot take it back to the shops,

:01:37. > :01:42.there are no guarantees. There is no sense of time for buyers remorse. On

:01:43. > :01:48.Thursday we are not making history but making the biggest decision of

:01:49. > :01:53.our lives. After a week of claim and counterclaim over how independence

:01:54. > :01:57.would affect business and you flank in the wider economic battle. One of

:01:58. > :02:01.the world's biggest banks has compared the possibility of a Yes

:02:02. > :02:06.vote to the mistakes that led to the big depression of the 1930s. If

:02:07. > :02:10.Scotland was to become independent I think it would be catastrophic for

:02:11. > :02:14.Scotland, bordering on the possibility for depression that

:02:15. > :02:18.would last for a number of years. It is not independence that threatens

:02:19. > :02:22.the financial services industry, we want to give a competitive

:02:23. > :02:25.advantage, it is the union that has threatened the growth of the

:02:26. > :02:32.financial services industry in Scotland. In Edinburgh thousands of

:02:33. > :02:37.people joined a rally by the Orange order in support of the union.

:02:38. > :02:45.Scotland said they were entitled to campaign for a no vote but their own

:02:46. > :02:49.campaign was mobilising thousands of supporters. Better together said the

:02:50. > :02:55.Orange order had nothing to do with their campaign. A further twist this

:02:56. > :02:57.evening, Rob -- Rupert Murdoch was spotted in Aberdeen, prompting

:02:58. > :03:02.speculation about what his newspapers may do in the coming

:03:03. > :03:03.days. With a fresh batch of polling out tonight both sides will be

:03:04. > :03:05.watching closely. Our Political Correspondent Tim Reid

:03:06. > :03:08.joins us is here to reflect Tim, what do you make of Rupert

:03:09. > :03:19.Murdoch's arrival in Scotland? It is certainly interesting that he

:03:20. > :03:25.is here on the most feverish weekend of campaigning for both sides. There

:03:26. > :03:32.has been speculation that perhaps one of his papers could come out in

:03:33. > :03:35.favour of a yes endorsement but that only was heightened at the end of

:03:36. > :03:40.last week when they opinion poll suggested that the Yes campaign was

:03:41. > :03:46.in front. So far only the Sunday Herald has come out for a Yes vote

:03:47. > :03:54.and the Scotsman came out and said a no vote would be the best thing for

:03:55. > :03:59.Scotland. -- No vote. We will watch them and see if they are going to

:04:00. > :04:02.endorse, Rupert Murdoch will not want to back the losing side so

:04:03. > :04:04.perhaps they will not attempt or sigh their campaign.

:04:05. > :04:08.The family of a man from Perth who is being held hostage by Islamic

:04:09. > :04:11.State militants have appealed to his captors to make contact with them.

:04:12. > :04:13.A statement from David Haines' relatives said the militants,

:04:14. > :04:15.who have beheaded two Amercian journalists, had not replied to

:04:16. > :04:18.Mr Haines was kidnapped last year, delivering humanitarian aid

:04:19. > :04:22.Celtic survived an Aberdeen fight-back to gain

:04:23. > :04:28.Jason Denayer deflected a shot by Efe Ambrose to give the home side

:04:29. > :04:33.an early lead, and Kris Commons made it two just after half-time.

:04:34. > :04:36.A David Goodwillie header got Aberdeen back into the game, but

:04:37. > :04:44.Hamilton sharing top spot alongside Inverness Caley Thistle and

:04:45. > :04:48.And in the Championship, Hearts drew 0-0 with Dumbarton, but lead the

:04:49. > :04:53.Shinty, and Kingussie won the Camanachd Cup final today

:04:54. > :04:56.for the 23rd time, beating Glenurquart 4-0 in Inverness.

:04:57. > :04:58.Kingussie had lost in the final three times

:04:59. > :05:07.Let's find out what the forecast holds for the rest of the weekend.

:05:08. > :05:13.Many parts enjoying a beautiful late summer day. Anne, same tomorrow?

:05:14. > :05:23.It is not looking too bad at all. Good evening. Much of the country

:05:24. > :05:27.today is enjoying some fine, dry and settled conditions. Dry is how it is

:05:28. > :05:31.set to continue for tonight with misty and faulty patches developing

:05:32. > :05:35.quite widely across the country, particularly so across northern and

:05:36. > :05:39.eastern parts. There will be some clear spells and we are not looking

:05:40. > :05:43.at a cold night at all. Fairly mild temperatures holding up in double

:05:44. > :05:50.figures. We could see some rural sports tipping to four or five, this

:05:51. > :05:55.is likely through the great Glen and Dumfries and the Borders. Tomorrow

:05:56. > :05:59.morning mist and fog Lindo first -- Malinga first thing but it should

:06:00. > :06:03.clear away during the course of the morning. There should be brightness

:06:04. > :06:09.and sunshine in the West. More cloud across the eastern Scotland with

:06:10. > :06:14.some patchy rain at times. For the rest of the UK it is going to be a

:06:15. > :06:18.largely dry day, good spells brightness and sunshine. A few spits

:06:19. > :06:22.and spots of rain but nothing too heavy. We are looking at

:06:23. > :06:26.temperatures reaching the high teens for Scotland. Always a bit cooler

:06:27. > :06:27.along the east coast with a moderate southeasterly breeze. That is your

:06:28. > :06:28.forecast. And that's Reporting Scotland

:06:29. > :06:30.for now. To keep you up to date with all

:06:31. > :06:32.the latest developments in the referendum debate, we have

:06:33. > :06:35.an extended news bulletin tonight. That's at 10.50pm here on

:06:36. > :06:38.BBC1 Scotland.
