:00:00. > :00:21.There will not be a fresh appeal against the

:00:22. > :00:26.The Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission has decided not to refer

:00:27. > :00:33.Our political correspondent, Glenn Campbell can tell us more.

:00:34. > :00:38.He remains the only person convicted in the Lockerbie case and Abdullah

:00:39. > :00:59.Basa Al 's he jobs that second appeal

:01:00. > :01:04.shortly after he was released from prison on compassionate grounds and

:01:05. > :01:08.subsequently he died from cancer. Since then, Doctor Jim Swire and UK

:01:09. > :01:17.relatives of those who died in the bombing have bidded to reopen the

:01:18. > :01:21.case and have suggested a posthumous appeal because they believe he

:01:22. > :01:26.suffered a miscarriage of justice. The appeals commissioner has looked

:01:27. > :01:31.at the request but the advice from the High Court would that it would

:01:32. > :01:37.not be competent for the victims relatives to trigger such appeal but

:01:38. > :01:54.the appeal was backed by members of his family. They have concluded that

:01:55. > :02:00.the Megrahi family are not really willing to cooperate. Jim Swire says

:02:01. > :02:05.it is a tragedy. We await to hear from prosecutors if their request

:02:06. > :02:09.for access to two of the Libyans who have been named as suspects will be

:02:10. > :02:11.granted. A third of the Syrian refugees

:02:12. > :02:16.arriving in Britain before Christmas meeting in Edinburgh,

:02:17. > :02:25.heard that many of Scotland's local councils have already got

:02:26. > :02:28.arrangements in place for them. Over the next five years a total

:02:29. > :02:30.of 20,000 refugees will come to the UK from camps

:02:31. > :02:33.in the Middle East. 2,000 of those will settle here,

:02:34. > :02:35.and around 350 of them should Scotland has been more organised

:02:36. > :02:40.than other parts of the UK. It is a great symbol

:02:41. > :02:42.of our compassion that although we only make up 10%

:02:43. > :02:45.of the UK population, we are due to take one third of the refugees that

:02:46. > :02:47.arrive before Christmas. Credit to our local authorities

:02:48. > :02:51.for working so diligently and for the public services and

:02:52. > :02:55.the public for welcoming refugees. Some of

:02:56. > :02:58.the Scots tourists stranded in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-sheik

:02:59. > :03:02.are expected to fly home tomorrow. Holiday operator Thomson Airways

:03:03. > :03:06.has one flight scheduled to arrive at Glasgow International late

:03:07. > :03:08.in the evening. Several hundred Scots were stranded

:03:09. > :03:13.after flights were suspended amid fears that a bomb may have caused a

:03:14. > :03:16.Russian passenger jet flying - from the resort -

:03:17. > :03:20.to crash on Saturday. Nicola Sturgeon told Holyrood that

:03:21. > :03:23.the Scottish government's resilience committee had met

:03:24. > :03:36.to discuss the situation. There are, we understand, around

:03:37. > :03:41.20,000 British National is in Sharm el-Sheikh and we estimate that

:03:42. > :03:46.several hundred of these are Scots. We have been in touch with Thomson

:03:47. > :03:51.holidays to discuss the advice it has provided and I will continue to

:03:52. > :03:53.liaise appropriately with UK colleagues to ensure all support is

:03:54. > :03:56.in place. Teachers who've qualified outside

:03:57. > :03:59.Scotland could be fast-tracked into schools in Moray,

:04:00. > :04:02.in a pilot scheme to deal In the trial, teachers without

:04:03. > :04:05.Scottish qualifications would start work in schools,

:04:06. > :04:07.while undergoing top-up training. Moray Council will fund the cost

:04:08. > :04:10.of the distance learning conversion courses - if the scheme is approved

:04:11. > :04:13.by the General Teaching Council We are aware of between ten

:04:14. > :04:20.and 20 spouses or partners of military personnel who are qualified

:04:21. > :04:23.to teach out with Scotland, and we felt there was something we

:04:24. > :04:27.could do to support them to gain Doctors are calling

:04:28. > :04:32.for all primary schoolchildren to be given a free portion

:04:33. > :04:35.of fruit or vegetables every day. The British Medical Association

:04:36. > :04:38.in Scotland has made the proposal in its manifesto

:04:39. > :04:40.for the Scottish Parliament It says the measure is important

:04:41. > :04:45.for children who are forming Our health correspondent

:04:46. > :04:49.Eleanor Bradford reports. In Inverclyde,

:04:50. > :04:59.primary school children get fruit Children in the first three years

:05:00. > :05:05.of primary school now get free school meals, but ironically,

:05:06. > :05:07.that means many schools have cut back on providing free fruit

:05:08. > :05:09.and vegetables during snack times. Last year, Inverclyde was one

:05:10. > :05:17.of 16 providing free fruit. But by this year, it was one

:05:18. > :05:20.of just 11 still offering it. I like apples and bananas

:05:21. > :05:25.and grapes. The largest organisation

:05:26. > :05:43.representing doctors in Scotland says all primary school children

:05:44. > :05:47.should get free fruit, and they want politicians to make

:05:48. > :05:50.that pledge for next May's Scottish It is an important intervention,

:05:51. > :05:55.because you are forming If we can help people to eat fruit

:05:56. > :06:05.or vegetables rather than unhealthy snacks, which of course are

:06:06. > :06:08.widely available around schools, we can lay down habits for

:06:09. > :06:12.the future that make a difference in Some children here have never tried

:06:13. > :06:16.some of the fruit But now they all take a piece,

:06:17. > :06:21.and they all told me... Football, and Celtic lost by two

:06:22. > :06:36.goals to one in tonight's crucial Europa League match against the

:06:37. > :06:38.Norwegian side Molde at Parkhead. They remain at the bottom

:06:39. > :06:40.on two points. But, as Chris McLaughlin reports,

:06:41. > :06:54.they're not out The mist and rain around Celtic Park

:06:55. > :06:59.is a reflection of the doom and gloom here after a miserable

:07:00. > :07:04.European night. Expectations were high. Celtic domestic Lee are doing

:07:05. > :07:16.well but in the end the Norwegian champions are too strong. It started

:07:17. > :07:23.well for Celtic with girls being disallowed for offside. Questions

:07:24. > :07:31.about the defence when Celtic went behind. A sending off late on

:07:32. > :07:37.compound did the misery for Celtic. It leads them at the bottom of group

:07:38. > :07:42.B. To progress they will have to win their next two games at home to

:07:43. > :07:46.iPAQs and away to Fenerbahce. It's bonfire night and

:07:47. > :07:49.Scots across the country have been of firework displays both private

:07:50. > :07:53.and public. In Aberdeen several thousand wrapped

:07:54. > :07:56.up to brave the dreary conditions where they thrilled to

:07:57. > :08:02.the main public display there. Well, it's over to Christopher now

:08:03. > :08:16.with the weather outlook Cloudy and worked across a good part

:08:17. > :08:20.of the country. A very autumnal picture from a weather watcher at

:08:21. > :08:27.Queen 's Rangers go. Wet underfoot but mild and murky. Tomorrow

:08:28. > :08:38.morning, the rain already into the south-west. Further east, not quite

:08:39. > :08:45.as wet but still damp and a bit bank at times. But mild. The breeze

:08:46. > :08:53.picking from the south. Some fairly murky for Shetland. The rain sweeps

:08:54. > :09:00.across the country. A wet and windy day. The wind strongly from the

:09:01. > :09:04.south. You can see the weather front stretching from Stornoway down

:09:05. > :09:10.towards Kent. Something brighter for the West Country into Wales and

:09:11. > :09:16.Northern Ireland. A mild day. As the rain pushes through, perhaps some

:09:17. > :09:22.brightness to for the West Coast. Into the weekend, on Saturday, wet

:09:23. > :09:27.and windy for the central lowlands and the South. Maybe the odd bright

:09:28. > :09:30.and windy for the central lowlands spell. As we head towards

:09:31. > :09:37.Remembrance Sunday, a disturbed pattern. A brief ridge of something,

:09:38. > :09:44.but on Monday another system arrives. Next week it will be pretty

:09:45. > :09:50.unsettled. All due to the jet stream coming in from the south-west. Those

:09:51. > :09:54.lows are winding up and it could be very wet and windy at times.

:09:55. > :09:59.Our next update is during Breakfast at 6.25 tomorrow morning.

:10:00. > :10:02.But, from everyone on the late team here in Glasgow
