:00:00. > :00:09.Here, on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:10. > :00:13.The Forth Road Bridge will reopen to all vehicles except heavy

:00:14. > :00:15.lorries tomorrow morning - almost a fortnight

:00:16. > :00:19.Traffic will be allowed back on the crossing from 6 am.

:00:20. > :00:21.The bridge was closed almost three weeks ago,

:00:22. > :00:23.when a crack was found in a steel support.

:00:24. > :00:37.They have worked day and night in tricky conditions and ahead of

:00:38. > :00:41.schedule, the work is complete. It's been 19 days now since this road was

:00:42. > :00:46.closed to traffic and it's strange to be standing here on the empty

:00:47. > :00:51.carriageway. Work has been going on 24 hours a day to fix the repair and

:00:52. > :00:55.tomorrow morning the road will again become one of the busiest in

:00:56. > :01:00.Scotland. This morning the transport minister gathered with the engineers

:01:01. > :01:07.to relieve the news. I have approved the reopening of the Forth Road

:01:08. > :01:15.Bridge to all traffic except HGVs. There was immediate delight. In the

:01:16. > :01:20.catholic undertakings have been down. We are ecstatic that the

:01:21. > :01:23.bridge being opened, it has been like a ghost town, we are hoping

:01:24. > :01:30.tomorrow we will have more people coming in. They will come over and

:01:31. > :01:34.see us. We are excited. In Fife, where there has been so much

:01:35. > :01:37.disruption, the migration from rail to road can begin. 6am tomorrow

:01:38. > :01:48.morning X they have done a great job to road can begin. 6am tomorrow

:01:49. > :01:55.to get it open. The temporary repair is not strong enough to hold the

:01:56. > :02:00.weight of HGVs. What we have been doing is developing a permanent

:02:01. > :02:06.solution to replace the embers, that is anticipated to be finished at the

:02:07. > :02:10.end of January, that will then move onto the site, that is where we are

:02:11. > :02:14.anticipating the middle of debris, to have in place. The haulage

:02:15. > :02:17.industry says it is dismayed, describing the bridge closure a

:02:18. > :02:24.catastrophe that will costed millions. I'm told we will be back

:02:25. > :02:28.on the bridge beginning of January, now it is possibly middle of debris,

:02:29. > :02:32.we need to go and tell our customers something because the costs are

:02:33. > :02:35.mounting daily, we really need to know. I really hope they will

:02:36. > :02:43.prevent debris but I'm not convinced. But the transport Mr says

:02:44. > :02:45.there will be support. There are discussions, but they are very keen

:02:46. > :02:51.that we get access for them over the bridge that's what we're working to,

:02:52. > :02:56.I'm very certain that HGVs will be across the Forth Road Bridge early

:02:57. > :02:58.next year. As night fell and workers down tools, for one last evening,

:02:59. > :03:01.the bridge remained silent. The six people who died

:03:02. > :03:04.in the Glasgow bin lorry crash this time last year have been remembered,

:03:05. > :03:06.at a special service Candles were lit for the victims,

:03:07. > :03:10.and tributes were paid to all those who were injured and to

:03:11. > :03:13.the emergency services who went to their aid.

:03:14. > :03:23.Aileen Clarke reports. Those who were injured that day,

:03:24. > :03:27.those who helped them, and those who witnessed it first hand, including

:03:28. > :03:31.the crew travelling in the back of the bin lorry. They came together in

:03:32. > :03:37.the city's Cathedral to remember and reflect. This ecumenical service

:03:38. > :03:45.allows the opportunity for us all in our great city, to stand in

:03:46. > :03:53.solidarity with one another and express our prayerful support for

:03:54. > :03:58.all those affected by what happened. Six people died that day and this

:03:59. > :04:03.first anniversary was always going to be a very difficult time for

:04:04. > :04:08.their families. Queues were kept for relatives and friends but perhaps

:04:09. > :04:12.such a large public occasion was just too much some of the bereaved

:04:13. > :04:19.to bear, after many difficult days in the last year. Gillian Ewing...

:04:20. > :04:25.Everyone who died was remembered as candles were laid. Erin McQuade.

:04:26. > :04:33.Each one carried by a relative or friend. Jacqueline Sweeney. Lorraine

:04:34. > :04:41.Sweeney. Jacqueline Morton. Stephenie Tait. The First Minister

:04:42. > :04:47.gave a reading. The salt of the righteous are in the hand of God. I

:04:48. > :04:54.know torment -- though, it will ever touch them. The Bishop admitted it

:04:55. > :04:58.was hard to find the right words will only the people involved in

:04:59. > :05:04.those long days since we know what it was like. What happened was an

:05:05. > :05:12.accident, we now know an accident waiting to happen, but still, an

:05:13. > :05:19.accident. Pointless, meaningless, a consequence of human folly and

:05:20. > :05:22.responsibility. During the service contribute was paid to the emergency

:05:23. > :05:27.services and those passers-by who went to help, and the closing prayer

:05:28. > :05:32.was led by the Archbishop of Glasgow. Give us the strength of

:05:33. > :05:37.compassion that we may never shield our eyes and hearts from pain, but

:05:38. > :05:44.seek to heal and bless. The oil company, Tota,

:05:45. > :05:47.has been fined over a million pounds for a safety breach that caused

:05:48. > :05:53.a massive gas leak in the North Sea. 6,000 tonnes of gas escaped

:05:54. > :05:55.from the Elgin Platform, over a period of two months

:05:56. > :06:00.after the incident in March 2012. Aberdeen Sheriff Court

:06:01. > :06:02.heard that workers ran, fearing for their lives,

:06:03. > :06:05.after the sudden, uncontrolled release of gas.

:06:06. > :06:07.Total admitted responsibility. A 48-hour strike by workers

:06:08. > :06:10.on the Caledonian Sleeper service between Scotland and London got

:06:11. > :06:11.underway this evening. The dispute is over union claims

:06:12. > :06:14.of defects to trains - From Inverness, Jackie O'Brien

:06:15. > :06:28.reports. The last sleep trying into Inverness

:06:29. > :06:32.before Christmas arrived on time this morning. There was little

:06:33. > :06:37.festive cheer among the passengers caught up in the industrial dispute

:06:38. > :06:41.between the services operator Serco and staff across the country. It'll

:06:42. > :06:49.be sad to see it go but I think the staff have a point. It's in a bit of

:06:50. > :06:55.a state, the whole arrangement. I use it every day, it saves on my

:06:56. > :06:59.carbon footprint and it just proves how flexible the sleeper service is,

:07:00. > :07:05.not just serving customers from London coming to the Highlands but

:07:06. > :07:15.also the local community. So we will miss it. The RMT claims that the

:07:16. > :07:24.Caledonian operators have failed to fix a list of the defects.

:07:25. > :07:31.The trains are running about a fire alarm is disconnected. That's a

:07:32. > :07:34.blatant health and safety risk. The train wouldn't have run in those

:07:35. > :07:40.circumstances. Serco are running the night after night. The sleeper

:07:41. > :07:44.franchise was awarded to Serco by the Scottish Government in March.

:07:45. > :07:48.The company has plans to replace the ageing rolling stock with new

:07:49. > :07:52.state-of-the-art trains from says it is already addressing the repairs at

:07:53. > :07:57.the centre of the dispute. The sleeper services are due to resume

:07:58. > :08:00.on Sunday but the rail union is warning of further action in the New

:08:01. > :08:10.Year and less the company meets its demands.

:08:11. > :08:19.As you clear spells around overnight, a lovely picture sent in

:08:20. > :08:22.by one of our weather watchers. But fairly frequent showers, quite

:08:23. > :08:30.blustery at times, that's how we start tomorrow. Snow on the hills

:08:31. > :08:39.and mountains. The showers are hit and miss, not everyone will hit

:08:40. > :08:46.them. Further west, a little bit milder. To the east of the

:08:47. > :08:49.Cairngorms, some dry weather. As we head through tomorrow, we will see

:08:50. > :08:55.an improvement from the South, some sunshine through the Southern

:08:56. > :09:03.uplands, ageing northwards, and across the UK, a lot of dry, fine

:09:04. > :09:10.weather, city of sunshine. -- plenty of sunshine. Out West, the next

:09:11. > :09:15.storm is waiting in the winds. Heavy rain and high winds, focusing across

:09:16. > :09:23.the North West of Scotland as we head from tomorrow night. Tomorrow

:09:24. > :09:28.night, very wet and indeed windy, the rain crossing the country West

:09:29. > :09:36.to East, Met Office warnings in place for that. The rain clearing

:09:37. > :09:40.through the high winds extending towards Orkney and Shetland, some

:09:41. > :09:45.disruption on the berries and bridges. During Christmas Eve

:09:46. > :09:58.itself, the rain is clearing away, still quite easy. -- breezy.

:09:59. > :10:00.That's it from us. From everyone here, good night.
