:00:00. > :00:00.Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:00. > :00:11.Storm Frank is causing major disruption across Scotland,

:00:12. > :00:15.with torrential rain and high winds causing flooding and power cuts.

:00:16. > :00:18.Hundreds of people have had to leave their homes,

:00:19. > :00:21.roads have been closed, and rail services hit.

:00:22. > :00:24.And severe flood warnings have been issued

:00:25. > :00:26.for two rivers in the Borders and Dumfriesshire.

:00:27. > :00:29.We'll have reports from around the country.

:00:30. > :00:33.First, here's our correspondent Eleanor Bradford,

:00:34. > :00:42.with the latest on the situation in the south west.

:00:43. > :00:51.This area has never seen anything like it. This couple were trying to

:00:52. > :00:59.reach their one-year-old child at a grandparents's has, when they found

:01:00. > :01:04.themselves cut off. The roads are closed, so we are a bit stranded

:01:05. > :01:12.appear. Four bridges have been destroyed. The river broke its banks

:01:13. > :01:16.earlier on this morning, and one vehicle unfortunately got stuck in

:01:17. > :01:20.the middle, and the driver and his companion were stuck in the vehicle

:01:21. > :01:24.and had to be rescued. Just down the road, and little the owner of this

:01:25. > :01:33.caravan park could do but watch and wait. See the sign at the bottom,

:01:34. > :01:39.this is as high as it got. Further and land, the town of Newton Stewart

:01:40. > :01:44.was cut off, the power station flooded, there was no electricity or

:01:45. > :01:47.phones. By lunchtime, in Dumfries, a severe flood warning had been

:01:48. > :01:55.issued, meaning a danger to life from the rising waters of the river.

:01:56. > :01:59.This has been regionwide, so we have relied on communities to look after

:02:00. > :02:05.themselves until we can get there. But if you did not need to travel

:02:06. > :02:09.and did not live near the water, the scenery was spectacular. The worst

:02:10. > :02:12.of the rain has passed, but experts warn that in central and north

:02:13. > :02:15.eastern Scotland water levels may not be until tomorrow.

:02:16. > :02:18.12 people have been rescued from a bus which was overwhelmed

:02:19. > :02:21.by floodwater on a road at Dailly in south Ayrshire.

:02:22. > :02:23.Our reporter Aileen Clarke is there for us tonight.

:02:24. > :02:39.Well, this was an incredibly frightening experience here in

:02:40. > :02:44.Ayrshire today. Anybody who were seen these pictures will see just

:02:45. > :02:50.how bad the roads were all around Ayrshire today, roads flooded all

:02:51. > :02:54.over the place from here, and a bus was carrying out its studious,

:02:55. > :03:00.picking passengers up, trying to keep to the timetable when it hit a

:03:01. > :03:05.massive piece of flood water. -- carrying out its duties. The bus was

:03:06. > :03:10.stuck in the floodwater, the floodwater was quite deep, and a

:03:11. > :03:14.major operation swung into action to get the passengers and the driver

:03:15. > :03:19.off the bus. Now, the fire brigade first tried with a boat, but that

:03:20. > :03:24.didn't prove to be successful, and instead a helicopter was brought in

:03:25. > :03:28.by the Royal Navy to one by one whinge the passengers off the bus.

:03:29. > :03:34.That operation has only concluded within the past hour or so. All the

:03:35. > :03:39.passengers have come off, all are well, and I spoke to one a short

:03:40. > :03:44.time ago about her ordeal. I was going shopping, the bus, when we

:03:45. > :03:49.approached Dailly, the road was flooded, the driver thought it was

:03:50. > :03:56.OK to get through, but we got stuck, the water came up and up. It got to

:03:57. > :04:01.the windows, big waves. You could see the current, it was very scary.

:04:02. > :04:05.We moved to the back of the bus where the seeds were higher, I sat

:04:06. > :04:13.on a ledge at the back. You either had to stand, some people were

:04:14. > :04:18.standing on, like, the bars. But even at the back, I was on the

:04:19. > :04:24.shelf, my feet and legs were in the water. Tell us about the rescue. The

:04:25. > :04:26.rescue, the people were fantastic, they came along with the bold first

:04:27. > :04:32.of all, smashed a window to try they came along with the bold first

:04:33. > :04:37.help us. -- with the boat. That led more water in, but we managed to

:04:38. > :04:43.stop it coming. I was in phone contact, so they kept us informed. A

:04:44. > :04:47.helicopter came, some people were getting panicky, there were children

:04:48. > :04:49.on the bus as well. But we got there.

:04:50. > :04:50.Tonight, 6,000 homes across Scotland

:04:51. > :04:54.One of the worst affected towns is Ballater in Aberdeenshire.

:04:55. > :04:58.There, the River Dee has burst its banks.

:04:59. > :05:06.Our reporter John McManus is there for us tonight.

:05:07. > :05:12.This is what happens when river water has nowhere else to go.

:05:13. > :05:17.Ballater, on the banks of the river Dee, but now with the river's water

:05:18. > :05:23.is a bit too close for comfort. When the water is this high, it is time

:05:24. > :05:26.to leave. This is the scene in the centre of ballot this evening, the

:05:27. > :05:32.water has started to recede, but it is still raining, and hundreds of

:05:33. > :05:36.people are camped in the community hall that cannot go home this

:05:37. > :05:41.evening. Many are afraid of what they will find when they go home.

:05:42. > :05:45.Those forced from their homes have taken shelter in a community hall.

:05:46. > :05:54.But even here, there is no power. Many said they had to leave their

:05:55. > :05:59.homes in a hurry. I went to the back door, and the water was lapping into

:06:00. > :06:04.the house. It was as quick as that, ten minutes, the water was level

:06:05. > :06:12.with that. Scottish Fire and Rescue have been out in force in several

:06:13. > :06:13.spots along the A93. I need my car saved! Further down the river, water

:06:14. > :06:28.was threatening property. But some things, like this mobile

:06:29. > :06:37.home, could not escape the waters of the Dee. The Dee is still raging,

:06:38. > :06:42.but the clean-up will get into full swing tomorrow. There will be a lot

:06:43. > :06:45.to do. John McManus, Reporting Scotland, Ballater.

:06:46. > :06:47.Well, a severe flood warning has been issued

:06:48. > :06:49.for the River Tweed in Peebles in the Borders.

:06:50. > :06:51.Our reporter Lisa Summers has been in the town all day

:06:52. > :07:00.By late residents would have to get out.

:07:01. > :07:04.Emergency services went in to help evacuate. As the streets became

:07:05. > :07:10.rivers, locals were brought out by boat. Only a few hours earlier,

:07:11. > :07:15.residents had been hopeful their flood defences would hold. But the

:07:16. > :07:24.water is an unpredictable force, how quickly things changed. The flood

:07:25. > :07:30.defences up by the river have gone. They have just gone. I do not know

:07:31. > :07:34.where they have gone, but they have definitely gone, and the water has

:07:35. > :07:38.come up. I do not know if it has got into the house or not. This was the

:07:39. > :07:42.picture at one o'clock when the river burst its banks. It is

:07:43. > :07:48.incredible how quickly the water has risen and flooded this park after

:07:49. > :07:52.the river burst its banks. Look at the car have submerged, the street

:07:53. > :07:56.signs too. The water is quite high up on those street signs. By the

:07:57. > :08:04.middle of the afternoon, the river was a lake. Some say the waters are

:08:05. > :08:07.at their highest level since 1994. I am Peebles born and bred, and I have

:08:08. > :08:14.never seen it this high before. This is something. It is terrible. With

:08:15. > :08:18.the water level is not expected to peak until this evening, the main

:08:19. > :08:21.route south of the town has been closed. Residents whose homes are

:08:22. > :08:23.affected must wait until the morning to see how much damage has been

:08:24. > :08:24.done. Let's find out

:08:25. > :08:38.what the weather has in store. The worst has passed, but it has

:08:39. > :08:42.been a wet and wild 24 hours. This was sent in by one of our weather

:08:43. > :08:47.watches. The heaviest rain has passed and what is left is on the

:08:48. > :08:51.move. A lot of dry weather tonight before another band of showery rain

:08:52. > :08:55.pushing into southern Scotland, but nowhere near as heavy as what we

:08:56. > :09:00.have seen. It will be chilly, frost in the north as the wind eases down.

:09:01. > :09:08.Tomorrow, a showery start. In Scotland, working north through the

:09:09. > :09:10.morning, lovely start to the day for the Highlands and the north-east,

:09:11. > :09:13.then another band of heavier showers works northeastwards across the

:09:14. > :09:17.country on strengthening winds, and it will be a chilly day, some

:09:18. > :09:22.wintriness in those showers over the high ground. Into tomorrow evening,

:09:23. > :09:26.that band continues to work northeastwards, but behind it some

:09:27. > :09:31.drier, clearer conditions developing through the evening. Still showers

:09:32. > :09:35.for the North and Western Isles, the north-west Highlands, Argyll, the

:09:36. > :09:39.Glasgow area, but a lot of dry weather for central, southern and

:09:40. > :09:47.eastern Scotland. It will be chilly, temperatures getting down close to

:09:48. > :09:50.freezing. A cold start to New Year's Day, but a dry and bright one,

:09:51. > :09:53.especially across the North, just a few showers for the Western Isles.

:09:54. > :09:57.Later in the day, strengthening winds, because as we head into

:09:58. > :10:01.Saturday, we back under the influence of low pressure,

:10:02. > :10:03.unsettled, cloudy and windy with spells of rain, heavy at times.

:10:04. > :10:07.I'll be back with the very latest at 10:15.

:10:08. > :10:08.Until then, from everyone on the team

:10:09. > :10:11.right across the country, have a very good evening.
