:00:00. > :00:00.from being located. Here on BBC One, it's time for the news where you
:00:00. > :00:07.are. High winds and heavy rain
:00:08. > :00:11.are continuing across the east and north east of Scotland,
:00:12. > :00:14.hampering efforts to repair the damage caused
:00:15. > :00:16.by last week's storm. There are still dozens
:00:17. > :00:32.of flood warnings in place A common scene on street after
:00:33. > :00:37.street, the effect of last Wednesday's floods are still being
:00:38. > :00:42.felt. Residents emptying their homes of their sodden possessions. Water
:00:43. > :00:46.levels are knee-high after three days of heavy, persistent rain, but
:00:47. > :00:59.nowhere near the freak conditions that cause the devastation last
:01:00. > :01:10.week. In nearby Braemar, a local stream burst its banks. We have been
:01:11. > :01:15.involved in evacuating quarters, these are residential flats, and
:01:16. > :01:26.there have been 45 people evacuated, and also evacuating another area.
:01:27. > :01:32.The water is rising up to six inches per hour now. Back here, the
:01:33. > :01:41.clean-up continued. This is where you can see the full extent of the
:01:42. > :01:47.havoc caused by Storm Frank. Hardly a camper van or holiday home has
:01:48. > :01:53.been left undamaged. Many have been swept down the river. Some people
:01:54. > :02:03.have lost everything. All gone down the river. I don't know if they will
:02:04. > :02:10.rebuild the site. There's the danger of it happening again, isn't there?
:02:11. > :02:16.Caravan park flooded for a second time in a week. Thankfully, the
:02:17. > :02:20.residents had been moved out. Built in the 16th century to be
:02:21. > :02:29.impregnable, this castle near about moral looking rather vulnerable. The
:02:30. > :02:31.banks of the river swept away. The owner of the castle, one of those
:02:32. > :02:34.who had to be rehoused. The nearby village of Braemar has
:02:35. > :02:35.been virtually cut off Our reporter Andrew Anderson managed
:02:36. > :02:46.to get there and has been finding The rain continues to full here in
:02:47. > :02:51.Braemar today. Torrents of water continued to come down the rivers.
:02:52. > :02:56.This village is virtually cut off to the outside world, certainly to
:02:57. > :03:00.vehicles. We are told the road to the south is closed at the moment
:03:01. > :03:04.but the main problem is on the bridge. It carries the main road out
:03:05. > :03:08.of the village to and from Aberdeen. One part of the bridge has been
:03:09. > :03:15.badly damaged by the sheer force of the water coming down the river. We
:03:16. > :03:21.are now thinking the levels are peaking on the river so we can start
:03:22. > :03:25.to mobilise and get our temporary works in and we will be working as
:03:26. > :03:30.fast as we can to get this bridge repaired. There are also power cuts
:03:31. > :03:37.here in the village but the main worry was when telephone lines went
:03:38. > :03:41.down. Satellites for communications were put in the town square to make
:03:42. > :03:44.sure urgent communications could be made to the outside world if they
:03:45. > :03:49.were needed. Villagers are trying to get on with everyday life as they
:03:50. > :03:56.can. But it has been a challenging few days for them. We tried to get
:03:57. > :04:00.the doctor out and a fire crew from Dundee were sent here. And the
:04:01. > :04:05.coastguard would have come on gifted people had they needed it. This rain
:04:06. > :04:09.is forecast for the next couple of days. There is no talk of getting
:04:10. > :04:13.the Army in to help restore the village's links with the outside
:04:14. > :04:17.world but it will be some weeks at least before things get back to
:04:18. > :04:21.normal. -- there is now talk. Other major rivers have
:04:22. > :04:22.again burst their banks, Tonight, homes in Inverurie
:04:23. > :04:36.have been evacuated due Perth is a town that knows all about
:04:37. > :04:42.flooding, yet it was caught a little off-guard this afternoon. The river
:04:43. > :04:46.rose more quickly than expected with the floodgates down at Queensbridge.
:04:47. > :04:51.Around the corner, firefighters pumped water from this building.
:04:52. > :04:54.Further north, they worked hard to keep the water at bay. This
:04:55. > :04:58.childminder is still clearing up after her house and business were
:04:59. > :05:02.flooded out last week. It is distressing because it happened so
:05:03. > :05:06.quickly. It is surprising how quickly it moves and the force with
:05:07. > :05:11.which it comes in, and it is hardest for the children, trying to keep
:05:12. > :05:15.them calm. With farmland already saturated, the water had nowhere
:05:16. > :05:22.else to go. This is the sorry sight of Angus. This car is only aid of
:05:23. > :05:26.the visible down the road. And in Inverurie, this car got stuck. Here
:05:27. > :05:30.impress your the roads have been closed as the bad weather continues
:05:31. > :05:34.this afternoon and police up and down the country are warning drivers
:05:35. > :05:42.not to disobey the signs. In the Borders two people have been
:05:43. > :05:50.charged. It is simple- do not drive through a "Close road" sign. If the
:05:51. > :05:55.road is closed you must take a different route. Some householders
:05:56. > :06:02.decided it was time to leave as the river rose. It has been coming
:06:03. > :06:06.through and further up the last couple of hours. Just moved
:06:07. > :06:10.everything. We've just prepared. Put things as high up as we can and
:06:11. > :06:13.moved out, so we've at least had time to get ready, which a lot of
:06:14. > :06:24.places don't have time, and nobody is hurt. So far, firefighters on
:06:25. > :06:28.stand-by, eight common sight across the country, as they sit and wait.
:06:29. > :06:30.-- a common sight. Meanwhile, the main West Coast rail
:06:31. > :06:33.line between Glasgow and Carlisle A viaduct north of Lockerbie,
:06:34. > :06:46.damaged during last week's storm, A bus journey was not what they
:06:47. > :06:49.wanted. There are no trains on the West Coast Main Line so passengers
:06:50. > :06:55.in Glasgow central today were being sent by Buster Carlyle. It will add
:06:56. > :07:03.around an hour to their journeys. -- by bus to Carlisle. Just hope for
:07:04. > :07:08.the best. I'm a bit upset, to be honest, because I've got two young
:07:09. > :07:16.kids and it's supposed to be a direct route, but it is the weather,
:07:17. > :07:22.right? It is because of this. The pier that supports the bridge is
:07:23. > :07:26.looking damaged and investigations are continuing but they are being
:07:27. > :07:33.hampered by continuing bad weather. So for the meantime, you can travel
:07:34. > :07:39.two ways from Scotland. I do get a bus from Glasgow orbit on train from
:07:40. > :07:43.Edinburgh and go down the East Coast Main Line. Virgin Rail train tickets
:07:44. > :07:49.will be accepted for these journeys. -- or get on a train. Engineers have
:07:50. > :07:53.been working around the clock in extremely difficult conditions to
:07:54. > :07:54.gain access to the viaduct so we can understand the scale of the damage
:07:55. > :08:05.that has been caused by the storm. Network Rail say they are hoping
:08:06. > :08:09.replacement buses like these will be a thing of the past by the end of
:08:10. > :08:13.January. They say they are working hard to repair the viaduct. The
:08:14. > :08:17.problem is, a lot of the work is needed to be done under water and
:08:18. > :08:20.the weather is still hampering efforts, so hopefully by the
:08:21. > :08:22.beginning of the brewery, services will be back to normal.
:08:23. > :08:26.The A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful has been closed overnight due
:08:27. > :08:28.to fears that a giant boulder above the route could fall.
:08:29. > :08:30.Inspections after a landslip discovered the 150-tonne boulder,
:08:31. > :08:35.which also threatens the diversion route along the Old Military Road.
:08:36. > :08:37.The alternative diversion via Dalmally is currently being used.
:08:38. > :08:40.The route is due to re-open at 9am in the morning.
:08:41. > :08:46.Work will then get under way to remove the rock using explosives.
:08:47. > :08:48.Well, now, what else but the weather forecast?
:08:49. > :09:02.Good evening. We've had some incessant rain across eastern
:09:03. > :09:06.Scotland and this is the reason why. We had an area of low pressure
:09:07. > :09:11.across Wales and its been generating weather front of the weather front,
:09:12. > :09:19.and those stuck over eastern Scotland, with easterly winds in,
:09:20. > :09:23.bringing more rain. There is still this second level of warning for
:09:24. > :09:27.rain from the Met Office, and Amber warning, so we would expect to see
:09:28. > :09:32.further spells of localised flooding and travel disruption as well. That
:09:33. > :09:36.has been extended to seek -- to Teesside and Angus tomorrow right
:09:37. > :09:40.through to lunchtime. We will see the rain pulling in across eastern
:09:41. > :09:46.Scotland and a number of yellow warnings as well. The aware of the
:09:47. > :09:54.possibility of localised flooding. Much drier picture across western
:09:55. > :09:57.Scotland. A more static picture. We still have that driving easterly
:09:58. > :10:01.wind bringing showers into the Northern Isles as well. Further rain
:10:02. > :10:05.to come across eastern Scotland, cold enough to turn to snow on
:10:06. > :10:12.higher ground, holding onto the sunny weather across the north-west
:10:13. > :10:16.frequent showers for Northern Ireland, especially for Wales and
:10:17. > :10:20.down towards the south-west, with a number of yellow warnings south of
:10:21. > :10:28.the border. Do check the website for the details. Further north, the
:10:29. > :10:32.temperatures get lower. The rain keeps piling in across eastern
:10:33. > :10:37.Scotland with some snow in the mix of a higher ground for tomorrow
:10:38. > :10:42.evening. Dry in the West. A gradual improvement on Wednesday but Tay 's
:10:43. > :10:45.-- stays cold and turns windy.
