:01:23. > :01:24.to an avalanche in the Highlands near Spean Bridge.
:01:25. > :01:27.There, two climbers were rescued, and that operation is ongoing.

:01:46. > :01:48.helicopter in the sky above us here, and dozens of members of more than
:01:49. > :01:53.one mountain rescue team have convened here as well. They are here
:01:54. > :01:59.waiting for word as to whether they have to set out this evening to see
:02:00. > :02:02.if there are more people in the avalanche on Creag Meagaidh, a very
:02:03. > :02:06.popular mountain for people to go climbing in at this time of year,
:02:07. > :02:12.with winter conditions, and today there were quite a few people on the
:02:13. > :02:16.mountain. What we understand is that several people saw the avalanche
:02:17. > :02:18.happened, they saw the debris of the avalanche, and they also saw
:02:19. > :02:24.belongings are people that had clearly been caught up in it. Two
:02:25. > :02:28.people, as far as we know, have been airlifted to the Belford Hospital in
:02:29. > :02:32.Fort William. Their conditions are not known, at least officially at
:02:33. > :02:36.the moment, although we understand one may well be serious. As I say,
:02:37. > :02:39.the members of the mountain rescue teams who are here are waiting to
:02:40. > :02:50.find out whether there is any likelihood that there will be more
:02:51. > :02:53.people up on the mountain, and they may have to go and do a search for
:02:54. > :02:55.them. Craig, you and that rescue helicopter were involved in a search
:02:56. > :03:02.for a couple missing on Ben Nevis, any word on that operation? No,
:03:03. > :03:09.well, Tim Newton, 27, and Rachel Slater, 24, both from Bradford in
:03:10. > :03:13.Yorkshire, they have been missing now, well, they were reported
:03:14. > :03:17.missing on Monday, but there has been no confirmed sighting of them
:03:18. > :03:24.since Sunday, or in fact since Saturday. They were believed to have
:03:25. > :03:29.been climbing Ben Nevis, both of them experienced mountaineers. Their
:03:30. > :03:34.tent was found, their car was found, and although it was too dangerous
:03:35. > :03:38.for the mountain rescue team to search for them this morning, this
:03:39. > :03:43.very same helicopter, as you say, was called in this afternoon. It
:03:44. > :03:48.made a brief search of the area before it was diverted here to Creag
:03:49. > :03:52.Meagaidh, but unfortunately no trace of them was found. I spoke to the
:03:53. > :03:56.leader of the Lochaber mountain rescue team a short time ago, and he
:03:57. > :04:03.said, of course there are always hopes, but clearly, as time goes on,
:04:04. > :04:05.those hopes, that optimism that they may be found safe and well starts to
:04:06. > :04:08.fade. Thank you very much. Earlier in the day, three hillwakers
:04:09. > :04:10.missing overnight in the Southern Uplands
:04:11. > :04:12.were found by search teams, but one of the men was pronounced
:04:13. > :04:14.dead in hospital. His two companions are being
:04:15. > :04:27.treated for hypothermia. An intensive search began last night
:04:28. > :04:34.when the three hikers failed to return from a planned walk in the
:04:35. > :04:41.hills near this village. They were named as Jeffrey Stewart, 74, George
:04:42. > :04:45.Crosbie, 73, and 64-year-old Bobby Thomson, or from Dumfries.
:04:46. > :04:49.Experienced hill walkers familiar with the area, we know they parked
:04:50. > :04:55.up here yesterday, the car is still here. They went for a walk and were
:04:56. > :05:02.expected to return around half past three, and they didn't. Added site,
:05:03. > :05:06.the surgeon involved police, four search and rescue teams and a
:05:07. > :05:09.coastguard helicopter. -- at its height, the surgeon involved. The
:05:10. > :05:16.guys were saying they could barely stand up on the hill visibility was
:05:17. > :05:21.very low, so searching was really difficult. The men had left no
:05:22. > :05:27.details of their intended route, and the search area was up to 40 square
:05:28. > :05:32.miles. News came through just after one o'clock that the coastguard
:05:33. > :05:36.helicopter had located the men in open countryside around four
:05:37. > :05:39.kilometres away. They were said to be in a poor condition. The crew
:05:40. > :05:42.took them on board and transferred them to hospital in Dumfries around
:05:43. > :05:46.20 miles away. It has since been confirmed that one of the men was
:05:47. > :05:47.pronounced dead at the hospital. The other two are being treated for
:05:48. > :05:54.hypothermia. A man who abducted and raped
:05:55. > :05:59.a 15-year-old girl on her way home from school in Dunfermline has
:06:00. > :06:01.been jailed. 26-year-old Mark Armstrong
:06:02. > :06:15.subjected her to a harrowing ordeal Mark Armstrong had spent the days
:06:16. > :06:18.beforehand robbing and assaulting women in Dunfermline town centre.
:06:19. > :06:23.Then on Thursday the 12th of March, he committed the crime that was
:06:24. > :06:27.today described as cruel, depraved and inhumane. He kidnapped the girl
:06:28. > :06:32.as she returned home from school, threatened her with a knife, forced
:06:33. > :06:37.into the grounds of a derelict cottage, and raped her. That and
:06:38. > :06:41.what followed shocked detectives with years of experience. Is
:06:42. > :06:46.horrific, what this 15-year-old girl has been subjected to. There is
:06:47. > :06:52.really nothing I can compare this to, it is worse than I have dealt
:06:53. > :06:56.with in my 22 years service. From the cottage, Armstrong marched his
:06:57. > :07:00.victim for miles, eventually ending up at his Dunfermline home, where
:07:01. > :07:05.the attacks continued. 26-year-old Armstrong only spoke to the girl to
:07:06. > :07:10.tell her what to do, to shut up, and to stop shivering. As night became
:07:11. > :07:15.day, there was another return trip to the cottage. Armstrong initially
:07:16. > :07:19.said he would let her go, a lie that lead to more abuse. He took her back
:07:20. > :07:24.to its home again, and then he made to walk around ten miles. Finally,
:07:25. > :07:28.in the early hours of the Saturday morning, the 32 two-hour ordeal
:07:29. > :07:34.ended here at the entrance to this country park. He had walked her
:07:35. > :07:39.here, given her her mobile phone and left. She called her mother, who
:07:40. > :07:44.came to get her. Police described the mother hugging her daughter. The
:07:45. > :07:49.girl was shaking, crying and occasionally howling. Today at the
:07:50. > :07:52.High Court in Glasgow, the judge handed mark Armstrong a lifelong
:07:53. > :07:57.restriction order and told him he will have to serve a minimum of four
:07:58. > :08:01.years in prison before he can be considered for release. There will
:08:02. > :08:05.be no assessment carried out and no consideration by the parole board
:08:06. > :08:10.for four years, but that does not mean he will be released in four
:08:11. > :08:13.years. The key element is the lifelong restriction. What that
:08:14. > :08:17.means is that mark Armstrong will remain under the supervision of the
:08:18. > :08:22.state for the rest of his life, and he will remain in custody until such
:08:23. > :08:28.time as it is assessed that he no longer presents a risk to the
:08:29. > :08:32.public. That may never happen. He already had a number of convictions
:08:33. > :08:36.for crimes of violence, and police say it is due to the courage and
:08:37. > :08:39.bravery of his 15-year-old victim that he is back in jail.

:10:39. > :10:45.sceptical. I thought is this going to work or not? But I gave it a go,
:10:46. > :10:49.and I found it really good. The course is in cognitive behavioural
:10:50. > :10:53.therapy, which teachers coping strategies for life's difficulties.
:10:54. > :10:57.We have got a good team behind us, and that is why it is going so
:10:58. > :11:01.well... Professor Kevin Gallacher power is leading a trial of the
:11:02. > :11:04.causes in nearly half of Scottish health boards. Three times as many
:11:05. > :11:10.people as expected have signed up for them. Individuals can use it
:11:11. > :11:14.whenever they wish, late at night when the kids are in bed, and they
:11:15. > :11:19.can rehearse it again and go back to it for booster sessions at any time.
:11:20. > :11:23.So it is really user-friendly, it is there for them when they wanted. The
:11:24. > :11:28.courses have their critics. One study found that many people give up
:11:29. > :11:31.before competing them. Aileen admits she did not do it all but it is
:11:32. > :11:36.still the best treatment she has ever had. I noticed a difference
:11:37. > :11:40.even in my sleep patterns and the idea is that they gave you for
:11:41. > :11:45.dropping off to sleep. I tried some of those, and you could tell within
:11:46. > :11:46.a few days, you know, that it really worked.
:11:47. > :11:48.Online courses will never replace therapists,
:11:49. > :11:50.but it could cut down the number of sessions someone needs,
:11:51. > :11:52.which would cut waiting times for everyone.
:11:53. > :11:54.There's more encouraging news - the suicide rate is falling.
:11:55. > :11:58.Stigma around mental illness is reducing.
:11:59. > :12:00.A survey indicated that people living
:12:01. > :12:05.in Scotland and Northern Ireland are the most satisfied in the UK.
:12:06. > :12:11.And people in the Western Isles are the happiest of all.

:13:22. > :13:24.is looking at cutting 170 jobs, and another, Argyll and Bute, is getting
:13:25. > :13:28.rid of librarians in secondary schools. One thing that nobody is
:13:29. > :13:34.doing is putting up the council tax. One council, an, had proposed an 18%
:13:35. > :13:39.rise, but the Government made it clear that any council that did so
:13:40. > :13:42.would lose millions. So today Moray chose other ways to balance its
:13:43. > :13:48.books. School dinner prices are going up, and so was the cost of
:13:49. > :13:53.music tuition. What it seems now is that local government is seen as a
:13:54. > :13:59.means of simply managing some central government ambition,
:14:00. > :14:04.diktats, call it what you will. The local SNP argued the council could
:14:05. > :14:08.save money in other ways. We have set out as a party various
:14:09. > :14:14.reductions to administrative costs across a range of services, and that
