:00:07. > :00:10.Three people have died and two are missing after being caught

:00:11. > :00:14.in severe winter weather on Scotland's hills in recent days.

:00:15. > :00:16.It's once again highlighted the dangers of climbing and walking

:00:17. > :00:21.Two men in their 70s are now known to have died

:00:22. > :00:25.after being stranded in freezing conditions on the southern Uplands

:00:26. > :00:28.and a climber died in an avalanche near Spean Bridge.

:00:29. > :00:32.Meanwhile, the avalanche risk meant rescue teams were today unable

:00:33. > :00:35.to resume a ground search for a young couple from Yorkshire

:00:36. > :00:50.A tragic week in Scotland's Hills. Three dead, two missing and a

:00:51. > :00:53.further two climbers injured. It was announced this morning that the

:00:54. > :00:59.74-year-old Jeffrey Stuart from Dumfries had died in hospital. His

:01:00. > :01:03.friend, George Crosby, aged 73, died yesterday. Bobby Thomson remains in

:01:04. > :01:09.hospital. The trio had spent the night in the open while hill walking

:01:10. > :01:12.in the Southern uplands. Police are yet to name a man who died in an

:01:13. > :01:18.avalanche yesterday. All of this week's incidents have led some to

:01:19. > :01:26.question why people would head into the hills in wintry conditions. I

:01:27. > :01:32.think there is sufficient information out there for the

:01:33. > :01:38.climbers and participants in winter sports in our hills. Anybody taking

:01:39. > :01:41.to the hills should pay attention to the relevant weather forecast for

:01:42. > :01:45.that area and in particular the weather forecast for the hills, when

:01:46. > :01:54.they are working at other dude. Not the ground forecast will. -- when

:01:55. > :01:59.they are working at altitude. In a joint statement, the missing

:02:00. > :02:04.couple's families thanked the rescue services and the public who have

:02:05. > :02:09.offered support. They have urged anyone who saw them climbing over

:02:10. > :02:11.the weekend to get in touch. Scotland's Mountains are

:02:12. > :02:15.increasingly popular climbers and walkers. The conditions which

:02:16. > :02:20.attract 70 people, snow and ice, can lead to tragedy. It is hard when

:02:21. > :02:23.people or holiday and they have travelled a long way or they have

:02:24. > :02:28.made plans to do something, and they have got excited about going to a

:02:29. > :02:32.particular place. Most importantly, you've not to stick to those plans

:02:33. > :02:35.if you feel the conditions are not right or you do not feel colder for

:02:36. > :02:38.four to be have to have a flexible plan and be prepared to have a

:02:39. > :02:42.number of different options with mountain experts will never try to

:02:43. > :02:45.dissuade people from heading into the hills but they do insist that

:02:46. > :02:48.anyone heading for the great outdoors, especially in winter, is

:02:49. > :02:51.experienced and trained in the declining techniques and that they

:02:52. > :02:58.fully inform themselves. the death of a five-month-old

:02:59. > :03:01.baby girl from Fife. Hayley Davidson was admitted

:03:02. > :03:03.to hospital on Sunday, after officers went to a property

:03:04. > :03:06.in Buckhaven in response to a call

:03:07. > :03:10.reporting concern for a child. at Edinburgh's Royal Hospital

:03:11. > :03:13.for Sick Children. Police are now awaiting

:03:14. > :03:28.the results of a post-mortem. Outside her home in Buckhaven,

:03:29. > :03:32.people arrived to leave flowers for Hayley Davidson. The get well soon

:03:33. > :03:43.messages replaced by expressions of shock and sadness after locals in

:03:44. > :03:50.the five the Tyrone Clarke town discovered she had died. -- in the

:03:51. > :03:57.Fife town. There was a report of concern over a

:03:58. > :04:01.child. They discovered Haley, seriously injured. She was taken to

:04:02. > :04:06.the Royal Hospital for Sick Children. She was critically ill and

:04:07. > :04:12.she was care for three days until, yesterday afternoon, she passed

:04:13. > :04:14.away. The flat remains cordoned off, along with another property a few

:04:15. > :04:24.doors down. Police act hoodie continues. They await the results of

:04:25. > :04:29.a postmortem. Detectives say they are conducting a robust

:04:30. > :04:38.investigation as part of a sensitive case.

:04:39. > :04:44.The premise is attending to persuade other youth leaders in Brussels to

:04:45. > :04:47.The premise is attending to persuade agree the reforms he once before

:04:48. > :04:50.holding and in all-out referendum. But if Scotland more likely to opt

:04:51. > :04:52.to remain than other parts of the UK?

:04:53. > :04:54.Our political correspondent, Nick Eardley,

:04:55. > :05:00.has been out and about to find an answer.

:05:01. > :05:05.Hundreds of thousands of Europeans visit Scotland every year. They make

:05:06. > :05:10.a substantial contribution to the tourism sector. The ones we spoke to

:05:11. > :05:15.in Edinburgh seem happy to be here. Yes, I like it. It is a nice place.

:05:16. > :05:23.You enjoy being in Scotland? Yes, it is bit cold. But you are having a

:05:24. > :05:27.good time? Yes. The only bad thing is the weather. Most of Scotland's

:05:28. > :05:35.main political parties support remaining in the EU. Only Ukip are

:05:36. > :05:38.arguing for an exit. Beyond the political bubble, that support

:05:39. > :05:41.appears to continue. Polls suggest most Scots are happy to raise a

:05:42. > :05:50.glass to continued membership. There is no doubt that Scotland is more

:05:51. > :05:56.pro-EU. It is more likely to remain in the US than the UK as a whole. It

:05:57. > :06:02.is 13 points or so more likely to vote to remain then you will find in

:06:03. > :06:05.England or the UK as a whole. What is it that this got so if you

:06:06. > :06:13.Jessica about when it comes to the EU? Admit to ask. -- we went to ask.

:06:14. > :06:19.I think the equal rights act, the maternity pay and things like that

:06:20. > :06:27.are big issues for me at the moment. I do like the ability to work

:06:28. > :06:33.together. We have been ripped off four years, the way they treat us.

:06:34. > :06:38.The shipyard on the Clyde has lost contracts in recent years after

:06:39. > :06:45.being forced to tender on the law. We put our questions to people on a

:06:46. > :06:54.lesser-known Prince Street here. It made us skinned. To leave question

:06:55. > :06:59.to stay with them. It will be better for us if we stay in the EU. But

:07:00. > :07:04.become separate, if you know what I mean? Shetland was one of just two

:07:05. > :07:11.areas to vote against the Bishop of the EU in 1975. Has the outlook here

:07:12. > :07:16.changed since the last referendum? It is a bureaucratic mess. I very

:07:17. > :07:20.much hope we vote to leave Europe. I will take my chances. It is not like

:07:21. > :07:24.everything will be wonderful that they really. It might be worse for a

:07:25. > :07:29.time but I am prepared to take that risk. My first thought would be that

:07:30. > :07:39.I would rather stay as part of the EU. I don't feel particular the

:07:40. > :07:46.strongly either way. I think we all Better Together but it has to be on

:07:47. > :07:49.terms that help us. How the UK votes will not be known until the

:07:50. > :07:50.referendum itself. Only then will the country's future direction be

:07:51. > :07:54.known. A steel company interested in buying

:07:55. > :07:56.Tata's mothballed works in Lanarkshire has told the BBC

:07:57. > :07:59.they could still have a future. Liberty is looking

:08:00. > :08:00.at using recycled steel as part of a plan

:08:01. > :08:03.for steel production in Scotland. Hundreds of people's jobs

:08:04. > :08:19.rely on a buyer being found Liberty through their hat into the

:08:20. > :08:23.ring with the steel plans last month. Since then, there have been

:08:24. > :08:29.several very positive discussions with them about the possibility of

:08:30. > :08:35.them taking over the plant here. This is a company that has recently

:08:36. > :08:39.turned around a steel plant in Wales will stop the Newport plant. They

:08:40. > :08:43.took over that and that is now producing steel once more. They are

:08:44. > :08:47.clearly a company with an idea of what they want to do with the steel

:08:48. > :08:50.industry in future. When the BBC spoke to them, they were not

:08:51. > :08:55.specific about their plans for these plants, but they did give us an idea

:08:56. > :08:59.of how their vision is developing for their part that they wish to

:09:00. > :09:02.play in the steel industry in Britain in the coming years. We're

:09:03. > :09:09.talking about recycling steel from domestic scrap, value added into

:09:10. > :09:11.being products that come from a process in the UK market. Scrap

:09:12. > :09:20.fundamentally has no price, it follows steel. If you can recycle

:09:21. > :09:22.that back into steel, with a sustainable energy source and add to

:09:23. > :09:27.it and then turn it into engineering products and feed automobile or

:09:28. > :09:30.Aerospace defence industries, which all growth industries, that has

:09:31. > :09:35.nothing to do with the price movement of the commodity. Any deal

:09:36. > :09:40.that could be done for these plants cannot come quickly enough. There

:09:41. > :09:47.are 270 employed between the two plants. There are now only 50 people

:09:48. > :09:54.in the workforce being kept on at the moment. Money has come in from

:09:55. > :09:56.the Government to maintain the workforce so they have that skill

:09:57. > :10:01.should they be open. People would want that deal to coming quickly. I

:10:02. > :10:04.understand from the union that they do believe that Liberty has the

:10:05. > :10:09.right credentials to make a go of it here. They like the cut of their gym

:10:10. > :10:16.very much, that is the oppression I'm getting. It is another issue for

:10:17. > :10:19.the steel task force meeting next week. There are high hopes in

:10:20. > :10:24.Motherwell that there could be some positive news about the future of

:10:25. > :10:26.these plants even before people sit down for that meeting next Thursday.

:10:27. > :10:29.It's been reported that a 15-year-old boy from Glasgow has

:10:30. > :10:31.been arrested for allegedly hacking into US government computers.

:10:32. > :10:33.It's understood the FBI had been involved in an investigation

:10:34. > :10:36.into hacking, and the boy was questioned earlier this week

:10:37. > :10:41.They've confirmed that a teenager was arrested following the search

:10:42. > :10:45.of a property in Glasgow on Tuesday under the Computer Misuse Act.

:10:46. > :10:49.and has been reported to the procurator fiscal.

:10:50. > :10:55.Secondary schools in West Dunbartonshire were closed today,

:10:56. > :10:57.because of a strike by some teachers over cuts.

:10:58. > :10:59.It's the second time in just over a month

:11:00. > :11:02.that members of the EIS union in the area have walked out

:11:03. > :11:04.over plans to cut the number of principal teachers.

:11:05. > :11:06.The union has called council proposals

:11:07. > :11:09.to solve the dispute "unacceptable".

:11:10. > :11:11.The council argues that the system it's proposing

:11:12. > :11:13.is similar to one already in place elsewhere.

:11:14. > :11:20.Well, it's over to Christopher now for the forecast.

:11:21. > :11:25.Good evening. Cold and frosty for money tonight with some clear

:11:26. > :11:29.conditions. Further west, more in the way of cloud impaired with that

:11:30. > :11:34.picture, and AQ showers. That is the story across the UK. There is a

:11:35. > :11:38.warning for the risk of ice. If he had the clear skies, the chance

:11:39. > :11:42.perhaps seeing the aurora borealis, the Northern lights. A chilly night.

:11:43. > :11:47.Julie first thing tomorrow but rain and cloud gathering further west.

:11:48. > :11:52.That is tomorrow's weather. Let's look at ATMs or. Many central and

:11:53. > :11:55.eastern areas are dry at this point, perhaps even a little bit of

:11:56. > :12:00.brightness towards the east coast first thing. In the West, the cloud

:12:01. > :12:03.and rain has already arrived. But with a falling as snow across the

:12:04. > :12:07.hills and mountains, turning increasingly to rain through the

:12:08. > :12:13.day. Still dry through parts of the East. The rain arriving, copied by

:12:14. > :12:17.strong gale force southerly winds, the gales must likely around the

:12:18. > :12:22.coast. Through the course of the day, the rain moving eastwards.

:12:23. > :12:24.Thanks to the southerly winds, dry weather for the North of

:12:25. > :12:30.Aberdeenshire. Some shelter from the mountains. That weather stretches

:12:31. > :12:32.all the way through the North of England and Wales for south-west.

:12:33. > :12:38.The far south-east, East Anglia towards Kent, staying dry until the

:12:39. > :12:41.afternoon. Temperatures higher than average but still feeling chilly.

:12:42. > :12:46.The rain will clear through, but if you take a look, this weather front

:12:47. > :12:51.stretches across the Atlantic. This will act as a conveyor belt of rain

:12:52. > :12:56.to many parts of the UK. To the south, warm air, to the north, cold

:12:57. > :13:01.to many parts of the UK. To the air. Most of this is through Umbria

:13:02. > :13:05.and Wales. To the south, cloudy and down. Temperatures into the teens.

:13:06. > :13:08.We are in the cold conditions further north, some wintry showers

:13:09. > :13:13.to low levels in some areas. Windy from the West. As we head toward

:13:14. > :13:17.Sunday, we're on the cold side of that front, so a fair number of

:13:18. > :13:19.showers around. Temperatures around 5 degrees, feeling chilly at times.

:13:20. > :13:22.That is the forecast for now. From everyone on the late team

:13:23. > :13:30.here in Glasgow and around
