:00:00. > :00:13.That's all from the BBC News at Six, so it's goodbye from me,

:00:14. > :00:17.An official report into a helicopter crash which killed

:00:18. > :00:19.four people finds the aircraft's instruments were NOT being monitored

:00:20. > :00:24.Survivors are questioning how much training pilots are given.

:00:25. > :00:35.Also on the programme, got the knowledge to fly them.

:00:36. > :00:38.an international report finds teenagers in Scotland are among

:00:39. > :00:41.the most anxious and unhealthy in Europe and North America.

:00:42. > :00:44.As Holyrood prepares to pass new laws on land reform

:00:45. > :00:50.we look at how it could change our countryside

:00:51. > :00:52.Scotland target their best run in the Six

:00:53. > :00:55.Nations for 20 years - but the players say no-one's getting

:00:56. > :01:01.And how we helped reconnect the unlikely stars

:01:02. > :01:14.of this forgotten film with their loved ones.

:01:15. > :01:20.The instruments in a helicopter that crashed off Shetland two

:01:21. > :01:24.and a half years ago killing four people were not being monitored

:01:25. > :01:27.properly by the crew in the moments leading up to the accident.

:01:28. > :01:29.That's one of the main findings from the official report

:01:30. > :01:42.It says by the time the reduction in speed was noticed it was too late.

:01:43. > :01:47.The report made 28 recommendations, many of which have been implemented.

:01:48. > :01:54.It has taken almost three years to find out why this helicopter plunged

:01:55. > :01:58.into the sea off Shetland. Today, answers from accident investigators,

:01:59. > :02:00.their job not to apportion blame, but the cause of the crashed

:02:01. > :02:09.pilots in the final moments. The expectation is that they would have

:02:10. > :02:12.monitored instruments during the approach and that did not happen and

:02:13. > :02:16.the aircraft was allowed to descend below its

:02:17. > :02:22.mid-authorised height and the airspeed decayed to the critical

:02:23. > :02:25.state from which they could not recover the helicopter.

:02:26. > :02:28.state from which they could not workers died in the crash. The 14

:02:29. > :02:40.who survived were rescued from life included Martin, who listen to what

:02:41. > :02:45.investigators hat to say today. I would like to see why this could

:02:46. > :02:47.have been prevented -- could not have been prevented. As pilots as

:02:48. > :02:53.they are, flying machines, and they have not really

:02:54. > :03:04.got the knowledge to fly them. breathing system for passengers has

:03:05. > :03:09.been introduced. Restrictions have been put in place on where bigger

:03:10. > :03:18.sized passengers can sit. The operator said it has already

:03:19. > :03:25.made changes to pilot changing. In terms of support today, the crew, it

:03:26. > :03:31.has been on the same principle as with survivors and families. We have

:03:32. > :03:36.fully supported them as nonflying members of our family. They have had

:03:37. > :03:40.great support from their colleagues. I believe the union representation

:03:41. > :03:42.has been pleased with the way we have rallied round and supported the

:03:43. > :03:47.crew members. The memory of what happened that

:03:48. > :03:53.August evening is still difficult for survivors. Still struggling to

:03:54. > :03:59.this very day. The day will never leave me. Every day, I remember it

:04:00. > :04:02.like yesterday. It is a thing that will not go away.

:04:03. > :04:05.Well let's speak to Steven Duff who's in Aberdeen.

:04:06. > :04:07.The families of those involved will now be focusing on the fatal

:04:08. > :04:22.certain there will be a fatal accident enquiry. Whether that is in

:04:23. > :04:23.Lerwick or Aberdeen is a decision to be taken.

:04:24. > :04:31.a criminal investigation ongoing by the Crown Office. It is a few months

:04:32. > :04:36.as the crowd office took the Air Accident

:04:37. > :04:38.Investigation Branch to court, an unusual move to get key evidence

:04:39. > :04:47.from the cockpit of helicopter. Air Accident Investigation Branch

:04:48. > :04:50.said it could jeopardise the integrity of this investigation and

:04:51. > :04:51.future investigations. When 2009, when a

:04:52. > :05:00.helicopter crashed off Peterhead, it was five years before the fatal

:05:01. > :05:03.accident inquiry happened. On the report

:05:04. > :05:10.today, the investigation Branch will not apportion blame and uttered the

:05:11. > :05:13.words pilot error, but it is a detailed report, that the actions of

:05:14. > :05:15.the pilots in the helicopter was the main cause in the last moments of

:05:16. > :05:17.this flight. The Scottish Government has been

:05:18. > :05:21.giving details of its new strategy It's worth ?100 million,

:05:22. > :05:24.and includes ?50 million for new radiotherapy

:05:25. > :05:26.equipment, staff and training The action plan for the next five

:05:27. > :05:31.to ten years is designed to improve prevention of cancer

:05:32. > :05:38.as well as diagnosis and treatment. Scottish teenagers are amongst

:05:39. > :05:40.the most anxious and unhealthy in Europe and North America,

:05:41. > :05:43.according to a new report It's analysed the health of young

:05:44. > :05:51.people in more than 40 countries, and our health correspondent

:05:52. > :05:53.Eleanor Bradford has been looking This report looks at health

:05:54. > :05:57.of hundreds of thousands of school children across 42 countries

:05:58. > :06:01.in Europe and North America. There's good news

:06:02. > :06:05.for our 11-year-olds. Compared to the other

:06:06. > :06:11.countries studied they're more satisfied with life,

:06:12. > :06:13.spend time with friends outside school and have daily social

:06:14. > :06:15.media contact with them. By the age of 15 our teenagers

:06:16. > :06:29.are second only to Malta in the number who say they feel

:06:30. > :06:31.pressured by schoolwork And don't feel supported

:06:32. > :06:33.by their family. Most worryingly, are more likely

:06:34. > :06:39.than their peers in most other countries to engage

:06:40. > :06:48.in risky behaviours, We know behaviour is in adolescence

:06:49. > :06:59.are strongly linked with other behaviours. Emotional well-being

:07:00. > :07:00.affects things like your happiness, health and prosperity in later life.

:07:01. > :07:04.We need to focus on Scotland is one of the most

:07:05. > :07:10.unequal countries. If you're a child in an affluent

:07:11. > :07:13.area you have a much healthier diet than

:07:14. > :07:15.a child in a poorer area. and it "needs the extra powers"

:07:16. > :07:23.which are coming to Scotland This snapshot of the next

:07:24. > :07:33.generation suggests Scotland will continue to be divided,

:07:34. > :07:35.with a huge difference between the health

:07:36. > :07:37.of the rich and poor - and the foundations for that

:07:38. > :07:40.set down in childhood. You're watching Reporting

:07:41. > :07:41.Scotland from the BBC. Still to come on

:07:42. > :07:45.tonight's programme. Why Gaelic education is still not

:07:46. > :07:47.a practical option for everyone who wants there children

:07:48. > :07:55.taught in the language. In sport, two big names must miss

:07:56. > :07:58.Scotland's final Six Nations Elsewhere Andy Murray admits he has

:07:59. > :08:02.a mental block about playing And we meet the curling

:08:03. > :08:05.clan looking for success at the forthcoming

:08:06. > :08:23.World Championships. Landowners want the Scottish

:08:24. > :08:28.Government to end what they say the politics of confrontation. New laws

:08:29. > :08:30.will be passed tomorrow including giving tenants farmers more rights.

:08:31. > :08:36.it will balance the relationship between tenants and landlords.

:08:37. > :08:41.We report on how the legislation could change the countryside. Spring

:08:42. > :08:51.is on the way, and new laws for tenants. We have

:08:52. > :08:56.invested over ?1 million in the past ten years. I am the third generation

:08:57. > :09:00.on the farm. With a good landlord, the crown estate, good understanding

:09:01. > :09:04.between landlord and tenant has given us confidence to invest

:09:05. > :09:06.knowing I will be here and my brother for the foreseeable future.

:09:07. > :09:12.Under the reforms tenant farmers with no near relative will

:09:13. > :09:15.be able to sell or pass on their tenancy for the first time and the

:09:16. > :09:20.land commission will review the changes. It ripped

:09:21. > :09:28.are still measures that need to be looked at in future parliaments.

:09:29. > :09:28.Landowners say it will not work. The loss of

:09:29. > :09:39.control means they will be less likely to let out farms. Last year

:09:40. > :09:41.it started to get feverish. The result is it enabled I think

:09:42. > :09:41.legislation that has been brought in which May not do

:09:42. > :09:54.what it is meant to do. seeks to improve transparency around

:09:55. > :09:57.land ownership. There are proposals for managing deer and it introduces

:09:58. > :09:59.a right to buy for sustainable development.

:10:00. > :10:06.Sporting estates will no longer be exempt from business rates. That

:10:07. > :10:09.will cost jobs, the Conservatives claim. Labour said it has been

:10:10. > :10:18.rushed and the Green Party agrees. power, you cannot do this quickly,

:10:19. > :10:21.it requires sustained effort. If you drop it it is difficult to get it

:10:22. > :10:25.running again. The Scottish drop it it is difficult to get it

:10:26. > :10:26.Government has gone through an extensive process of consultation

:10:27. > :10:32.and dialogue with all people interested

:10:33. > :10:36.in the debate of land reform. We have come to consider proposals that

:10:37. > :10:39.represent a radical reform of land issues within Scotland. The politics

:10:40. > :10:42.of the land has always been a controversial issue

:10:43. > :10:48.in Scotland and the topic is bound to come up at the next session of

:10:49. > :10:50.Holyrood. Campaigners will urge ministers to be as radical as

:10:51. > :10:52.possible. An inquest has heard there was no

:10:53. > :10:55.trained lifeguard on duty on the morning a three year old girl

:10:56. > :10:58.from Galashiels drowned Jane Bell was not wearing

:10:59. > :11:08.armbands when she went into the seven foot

:11:09. > :11:10.deep end of the pool of the Dalmeny Hotel

:11:11. > :11:14.Lytham St Annes in 2014. A fellow guest was able

:11:15. > :11:17.to get her out of the pool The hearing in Blackpool was also

:11:18. > :11:21.told staff on duty had been given no training on how to respond

:11:22. > :11:24.if someone got into difficulty. A search is continuing for an 18

:11:25. > :11:27.year old woman who has been missing Sarah Goldie was last seen

:11:28. > :11:32.when she was dropped off by a taxi in the Dean Park area of Renfrew

:11:33. > :11:35.at six o'clock on Friday evening. Her bag was later found in Glasgow,

:11:36. > :11:38.near to where a woman was seen in the River Clyde close

:11:39. > :11:40.to the Broomielaw. Sarah's father Gordon says

:11:41. > :11:42.he believes that woman He says his family

:11:43. > :11:47.has been torn apart. It's three decades since the first

:11:48. > :11:50.steps were taken to set up primary school lessons entirely

:11:51. > :11:54.taught in Gaelic. The number of children learning

:11:55. > :11:57.the language is rising - but as our education correspondent

:11:58. > :11:59.Jamie McIvor reports, there's still some way to go before

:12:00. > :12:02.a Gaelic education is a practical option for every

:12:03. > :12:10.family who wants it. This teacher teaches at a school

:12:11. > :12:13.which could call itself truly Some children are taught

:12:14. > :12:16.almost entirely in Gaelic, while the others also

:12:17. > :12:18.learn some of the I have been teaching

:12:19. > :12:28.through the medium of Gaelic for no I have seen a huge difference,

:12:29. > :12:52.certainly all for the better, too. When I started teaching,

:12:53. > :12:54.you had to translate your The focus on the language

:12:55. > :13:01.here is certainly quite unusual Nationally since 1985 the number

:13:02. > :13:05.of children being educated mainly Well more are now getting the chance

:13:06. > :13:12.to learn Gaelic as a subject. But in many areas, there are no

:13:13. > :13:22.local facilities and even in Glasgow Finn is four and a half and cannot

:13:23. > :13:28.get a place this year. My hope was that Finn would learn

:13:29. > :13:31.to read and write and have conversations with his

:13:32. > :13:33.classmates in Gaelic. So it would continue

:13:34. > :13:35.to be his everyday language. Even if he is not going

:13:36. > :13:38.to go to a Gaelic unit, Facilities are opening

:13:39. > :13:46.all across Scotland, but one challenge is getting

:13:47. > :13:48.enough teachers even At the moment you would

:13:49. > :13:51.have to employ every Gaelic speaking person to be

:13:52. > :13:54.a teacher, where every child The past three decades

:13:55. > :13:56.have transformed Gaelic education, but there is some

:13:57. > :13:59.place to go before it becomes to a place where everyone

:14:00. > :14:24.wants it to go. Now look at other stories from

:14:25. > :14:27.across the country. Confidence in Police Scotland

:14:28. > :14:29.has fallen slightly, according to the annual

:14:30. > :14:31.Scottish Crime and Justice Survey. While the majority

:14:32. > :14:33.of those questioned - 58 per cent - felt it

:14:34. > :14:35.was doing a good job in their local area,

:14:36. > :14:38.that was down from 61 percent under The survey of more than

:16:19. > :16:24.national poet for Scotland but it is also a position where I will use the

:16:25. > :16:28.position to celebrate poetry in all its many faces and tongues, to

:16:29. > :16:33.enjoying ourselves as well as to reflect.

:16:34. > :16:47.Jonny Gray and David Denton have been ruled out of Scotland's final

:16:48. > :16:49.Six Nations match against Ireland this weekend.

:16:50. > :16:51.Gray has a chest injury, while Denton is continuing

:16:58. > :17:07.In a professional sport can be essential business, take for example

:17:08. > :17:11.the Scotland players behind me. A few weeks ago they were on their

:17:12. > :17:16.worst Six Nations run of defeats in over 60 years. Now they are aiming

:17:17. > :17:25.to match their best run in two decades. . 1996 the last time they

:17:26. > :17:30.won three championship matches in a row. We felt Assad a group we

:17:31. > :17:35.weren't that far away. Delighted to have won the last couple of games.

:17:36. > :17:43.To prove that ourselves and to other people as well. The message from

:17:44. > :17:47.Murrayfield is simple - nobody is getting carried away. Two wins. We

:17:48. > :17:51.played good stuff and enjoyed the success that has come with that. We

:17:52. > :17:56.are not getting too far ahead of ourselves. Ireland in Dublin are an

:18:06. > :18:11.handled Scotland's World Cup defeat to Australia. Will that motivate the

:18:12. > :18:16.players? I don't know. It's an unanswerable question really, isn't

:18:17. > :18:19.it? Craig won't affect us as a team. He certainly won't affect what we do

:18:20. > :18:27.on the field. Plenty then to play for this weekend. Scotland keen to

:18:28. > :18:32.further impress in front of fans and perhaps officials!

:19:38. > :19:40.final set, Murray led by 4-1. The windy conditions were clearly

:19:41. > :19:44.unsettling. He admitted to struggling with his serve. The

:22:54. > :22:56.of amateur movie makers in the 1950s that was finally getting

:22:57. > :22:59.Our story contained as yet unseen footage of those involved which not

:23:00. > :23:01.even their family members knew existed.

:23:02. > :23:03.The relatives have been invited to the film's premiere in Glasgow

:23:04. > :23:06.tomorrow night and, as our arts correspondent Pauline McLean

:23:07. > :23:11.discovered, it's brought back some poignant memories.

:23:12. > :23:18.# Take me up to southernland... # It's more than 60 years since a

:23:19. > :23:25.little band of film-makers set off for the Highlands to make their

:23:26. > :23:29.latest film. Lost Treasure was about a changing way of life. It could

:23:30. > :23:34.just as easily have referred to the film, which was never finished or

:23:35. > :23:42.shown in public - until now. With he used to go there on holiday. May is

:23:43. > :23:48.the widow of one of the film-makers, Bill McGregor who appears in the

:23:49. > :23:53.film. I was shocked. I want expecting it. When Bill's face came

:23:54. > :23:59.towards me, I don't know how I felt. I was elate and I was sad. Jim

:24:00. > :24:05.Fletcher's father was also one of the group. When they made films,

:24:06. > :24:11.everyone had to lend a hand. They were working-class men and women.

:24:12. > :24:14.They were self-funding, as far as I'm aware. It was the spare time

:24:15. > :24:20.they used for the filming. I mean, I'm aware. It was the spare time

:24:21. > :24:26.Lost Treasures is a film was our summer holidays went up north in the

:24:27. > :24:31.van to do the shooting. It was all sort of very scrapieing pennies

:24:32. > :24:41.together, wasn't it? Yes. Bill's mother used to make apple jelly. She

:24:42. > :24:45.sold it to get money for the camera. The camera was on hire-purchase they

:24:46. > :24:51.had to pay the installments every week, you know. The film remains

:24:52. > :24:55.unfinished but with a new soundtrack performed live it will at last be

:24:56. > :25:00.screened as part of the Glasgow Short Film Festival later this week.

:25:01. > :25:02.A long-awaited premier for family and friend of those pioneering

:25:03. > :25:16.film-makers. A lot of dry weather around this

:25:17. > :25:20.week. Why? The jetstream normally in this sort of pattern, this week it

:25:21. > :25:23.changed shape. It goes around the UK allowing high pressure to build and

:25:24. > :25:34.keeping low pressure away from us. If we look at the pressure chart.

:25:35. > :25:34.cloud around. If you look at the wind

:25:35. > :25:40.cloud around. If you look at the North Sea, picking

:25:41. > :25:41.cloud around. If you look at the cloud. Where we have cloud it's

:25:42. > :25:47.cold. Further west much milder. cloud. Where we have cloud it's

:25:48. > :25:51.degrees and beautiful scenes scenes like this one in Mallaig. To the

:25:52. > :25:57.forecast and little in the way of change. It will be dry and cloudy.

:25:58. > :26:00.Murky at times. Low cloud to the east coast, drifting inland. In the

:26:01. > :26:06.west some clearer conditions at times. Colder conditions. Lows

:26:07. > :26:12.around four or five Celsius. Tomorrow, it's another cloudy and

:26:13. > :26:16.fairly grey day for many. The best chance of brighter sunnier weather

:26:17. > :26:20.to the West Coast and the islands. For the east and central lowlands it

:26:21. > :26:25.will be cloudy and grey. Towards the east coast cool at

:26:26. > :26:27.will be cloudy and grey. Towards the seven Celsius. The odd spot of

:26:28. > :26:30.drizzle in the thickest cloud. Further west, some sunshine and what

:26:31. > :26:34.a difference between the west and the east coast.

:26:35. > :26:37.a difference between the west and degrees. A good 10 degrees higher

:26:38. > :26:41.than on the east coast. For many a dry day, but a cloudy and grey one.

:26:42. > :26:45.As we head through towards Wednesday evening, once again some mist and

:26:46. > :26:50.low cloud across the east, at times drifting inland. Thursday, dry and

:26:51. > :26:55.cloudy. We lost that easterly flow of wind. Actually, knowing that it

:26:56. > :27:00.will be sunnier in the north-west is somewhat harder. For many, once

:27:01. > :27:03.again, another grey, cloudy day. That high stays with us as we head

:27:04. > :27:07.through towards Friday. Because there is so little going on that

:27:08. > :27:10.makes pinning down the detail somewhat difficulty, but we'll try.

:27:11. > :27:18.That's the forecast Jackie. Thank you Christopher.

:27:19. > :27:20.Now, a reminder of tonight's main news.

:27:21. > :27:22.The instruments in a helicopter which crashed off Shetland,

:27:23. > :27:24.two-and-a-half years, ago killing four people were not

:27:25. > :27:26.being monitored properly by the crew in the moments leading up

:27:27. > :27:32.That's one of the main findings from the official report

:27:33. > :27:35.There is stand-off between Belgian security forces and at least two

:27:36. > :27:40.The raid was linked to the Paris attacks which killed 130 people last

:27:41. > :27:44.Our next main bulletin is after the Ten O'Clock News.

:27:45. > :27:48.Until then, from everyone on the team, have a good evening.
