:00:09. > :00:14.The teenager who killed Cults Academy pupil

:00:15. > :00:16.Bailey Gwynne has been sentenced to nine years in custody.

:00:17. > :00:19.He'll be supervised for a further two years after his release.

:00:20. > :00:22.16-year-old Bailey died after being stabbed

:00:23. > :00:24.through the heart at the Aberdeen school last October.

:00:25. > :00:29.Last month his killer, who can't be named

:00:30. > :00:42.He was their sweet boy, and today, just as they have each and every day

:00:43. > :00:49.of the trial, the family of Bailey Gwynne made the difficult trip to

:00:50. > :00:54.court. Shielded by tinted glass, his identity protected on account of his

:00:55. > :01:07.age, the 16-year-old killer was taken to a different entrance to be

:01:08. > :01:09.sentenced. The 16-year-old was, he said, a naive and immaturity major

:01:10. > :01:14.because he thought carrying a knife said, a naive and immaturity major

:01:15. > :01:16.made an cool. Minutes later the judge delivered a sentence, nine

:01:17. > :01:21.years in custody with a further two years supervision upon release. It

:01:22. > :01:25.was one lunchtime last October that an ordinary school day at Cults

:01:26. > :01:28.Academy was turned upside down. An argument about a biscuit was the

:01:29. > :01:35.trigger for a fight that lasted just a few seconds. Long enough for

:01:36. > :01:39.Bailey Gwynne's killer to inflict a fatal stab wound to the heart, using

:01:40. > :01:43.a knife he had bought on the Internet. The 16-year-old denied

:01:44. > :01:47.murder, but last month the trial in Aberdeen ended with a jury finding

:01:48. > :01:52.him guilty of the lesser charge of culpable homicide. Lady Stacey told

:01:53. > :01:56.the 16-year-old that if he had not chosen to take a knife to school

:01:57. > :02:02.that day, the exchange of insults would have, at worst, led to a fist

:02:03. > :02:07.fight. No sentence, she said, could lessen the grief of Bailey Gwynne's

:02:08. > :02:12.family. For them, the Court ordeal was now over. Questions remain. The

:02:13. > :02:16.findings of an independent review into the circumstances surrounding

:02:17. > :02:20.Bailey Gwynne's killing are expected to be published in September.

:02:21. > :02:23.A Dundee-born man has been added to an official list

:02:24. > :02:25.of "global terrorists" by the US Treasury.

:02:26. > :02:27.James McLintock, who's thought to be 52,

:02:28. > :02:30.is accused of raising money for terrorist groups.

:02:31. > :02:33.He's believed to have converted to Islam in his twenties,

:02:34. > :02:35.changed his name to Yaqub, and moved to Pakistan

:02:36. > :02:40.The US Treasury claims that a charity he founded

:02:41. > :02:43.is a front to raise money for extremist groups.

:02:44. > :02:47.Equal rights campaigners in Scotland have welcomed the announcement

:02:48. > :02:49.of a review of gender recognition law for trans-gender people.

:02:50. > :02:53.They say it could, for the first time, allow people to change

:02:54. > :02:57.But the move has been described by opponents as "insanity".

:02:58. > :03:11.Victor Valentine identifies as non-binary, somebody who feels

:03:12. > :03:16.neither male or female, and that made grown-up a confusing time. We

:03:17. > :03:20.live in a world that tells us those are the only two options so for a

:03:21. > :03:26.long time I didn't realise there was another way that I could be

:03:27. > :03:30.explained who I was. So, in some ways, it was quite restrictive for

:03:31. > :03:36.me, but as I became older and more aware of these kinds of issues and

:03:37. > :03:39.spent time the other non-binary people I became more comfortable and

:03:40. > :03:44.happy with the way I am. There is legislation in place to detect the

:03:45. > :03:50.rights of transgender people. Campaigners argue that is outdated.

:03:51. > :03:54.They have welcomed a pledge by the S NPT review the way things stand, and

:03:55. > :03:59.that is backed by all Scotland's political parties. It is hoped that

:04:00. > :04:04.trans-people in future will be able to legally change gender themselves

:04:05. > :04:09.in their own terms. It is argued that is far better than what

:04:10. > :04:12.currently happens. At the moment you're not required to have surgery

:04:13. > :04:20.to change your legal gender but you have to have is detailed psychiatric

:04:21. > :04:23.report about your sexual preferences and intrusive personal things that

:04:24. > :04:31.nobody would want to have two sent to a legal tribunal to puzzle over

:04:32. > :04:36.undecided whether you make the grade of masculinity or femininity.

:04:37. > :04:40.Despite recognition that change is needed some argue that the proposed

:04:41. > :04:44.reforms go with too far. We should be offering support at a don't think

:04:45. > :04:48.this is the right kind of support and this will do a great deal of

:04:49. > :04:53.harm if you say to five or six-year-old children, you get to

:04:54. > :04:58.choose your gender. In is crazy. Most people in Scotland would

:04:59. > :05:02.realise it is insanity. Supporters of change know that these reforms

:05:03. > :05:03.could face a stormy time, but nevertheless, they are determined to

:05:04. > :05:05.see them A woman from Northern Ireland -

:05:06. > :05:08.who was jailed for drug smuggling along with a Scot in Peru -

:05:09. > :05:15.has been released from prison. Michaela McCollum,

:05:16. > :05:20.from County Tyrone, and Melissa Reid, from Lenzie

:05:21. > :05:22.near Glasgow, were sentenced to six years and

:05:23. > :05:24.eight months, three years ago. Melissa Reid remains

:05:25. > :05:26.in prison in Peru. This is the part of Lindsay whether

:05:27. > :05:35.family of Melissa Reid live. In This is the part of Lindsay whether

:05:36. > :05:39.August 2013, she and Michaela McCollum from Co Tyrone were

:05:40. > :05:42.arrested at Lima airport and were found to have ?1.5 million of

:05:43. > :05:46.cocaine hidden in two packets in their luggage. They were sentenced

:05:47. > :05:54.to serve six years and eight months in prison. For a prisoner in Peru,

:05:55. > :05:58.serving that kind of sentence, it is normal to be released after a third

:05:59. > :06:01.of their sentence for good behaviour. That is what has happened

:06:02. > :06:06.here in the case of Michaela McCollum. Her lawyers say that she

:06:07. > :06:09.should be able to return to Northern Ireland. She's now on parole in

:06:10. > :06:15.Peru. There will be a further hearing about that. It was assumed

:06:16. > :06:19.that Melissa Reid would be eligible for the same thing. We don't know if

:06:20. > :06:23.she has applied for that. We know that she has asked the Scottish

:06:24. > :06:26.Prison Service to allow work to serve the rest of her sentence in

:06:27. > :06:33.Scotland. The Scottish Prison Service has granted that they

:06:34. > :06:36.allowed that in January 2015, but ultimately, that there's something

:06:37. > :06:40.for the per ruby and authorities, and we have not had an up date from

:06:41. > :06:42.them about that, yet. -- the Peruvian authorities.

:06:43. > :06:45.A man charged with murdering the Clydebank teenager Paige Doherty

:06:46. > :06:46.has made his second appearance in court.

:06:47. > :06:50.He'd been remanded in custody, no plea or declaration.

:06:51. > :06:53.and will face trial at a future date.

:06:54. > :06:54.Health and social care services across Scotland

:06:55. > :06:59.31 local partnerships across the country have

:07:00. > :07:07.The integration is meant to help reduce bed blocking,

:07:08. > :07:09.and ensure that people's care needs are properly met

:07:10. > :07:17.Rugby, and Edinburgh have moved up to fifth place in the Pro12

:07:18. > :07:21.with a 29-0 win over Italian side Zebre.

:07:22. > :07:25.The crowd had to wait until the second half for the first try.

:07:26. > :07:27.Damien Hoyland winning a foot-race to touch down.

:07:28. > :07:30.The winger added his - and Edinburgh's - second

:07:31. > :07:36.Sam Hidalgo Clyne took advantage of some poor defending at a ruck

:07:37. > :07:38.for the third, before lock Alex Toolis got

:07:39. > :07:50.Let's get the weekend weather outlook now, from Christopher.

:07:51. > :07:57.Good evening. It was pretty wet across some parts today, but rain is

:07:58. > :08:02.clearing and there was some brightness just before dusk.

:08:03. > :08:05.Tonight, rain continues to clear South, courtesy of this weather

:08:06. > :08:10.front pushing into the North of England and Wales as well, but it

:08:11. > :08:17.returns tomorrow. This is how Saturday starts across Scotland.

:08:18. > :08:22.Pretty cloudy, reasonably dry, with that weather front edging into the

:08:23. > :08:24.borders, Dumfries and Galloway. Further north, dry and bright with

:08:25. > :08:30.some showers for the north-west coast. The rain will continue to

:08:31. > :08:33.track northwards. You can see on the bigger picture, it is a dividing

:08:34. > :08:39.line between Sunni, pleasant conditions down south, in the mid

:08:40. > :08:43.teens, and dry to the far north, but where that wet, cloudy weather

:08:44. > :08:47.remains it will feel rather cool. And it is cloudy and down across a

:08:48. > :08:52.good part of central and southern Scotland. Certainly through the

:08:53. > :08:55.central belt at this point. Around Dundee and Perth, it should be

:08:56. > :09:00.driver some light showers. The best of any shuns -- Sunshine around the

:09:01. > :09:03.Moray Firth and the far north. Plenty of sunshine through the

:09:04. > :09:07.course of the day for Orkney and Shetland with one or two like

:09:08. > :09:11.showers. In the evening the rain continues to move northwards

:09:12. > :09:14.reaching Aberdeen, Inverness and Stornoway by the end of the night.

:09:15. > :09:21.Sunday, and low pressure is in charge, so saying unsettled. Most of

:09:22. > :09:26.the heavy rain locally, but there will be a few further outbreaks of

:09:27. > :09:32.at times. The cloud should thin and break in places. Where that happens,

:09:33. > :09:36.the sun will come through and temperatures could get into the low

:09:37. > :09:39.teens. The winds generally light and from

:09:40. > :09:46.Our next update is at six o'clock tomorrow evening.

:09:47. > :09:50.But, from everyone on the late team here in Glasgow and around
