:00:16. > :00:19.17 schools in Edinburgh are to be closed indefinitely

:00:20. > :00:23.from Monday, amid safety concerns about their construction.

:00:24. > :00:25.The schools were all built as part of the city's private finance

:00:26. > :00:42.There was a call in January at Oxgangs by reskill when a great deal

:00:43. > :00:46.of cladding came off the building during the winter storms, which led

:00:47. > :00:49.to the closure of the school. A safety review was carried out at a

:00:50. > :00:54.number of Edinburgh schools, which led to the closure of two other

:00:55. > :00:57.schools, but tonight we learned that 17 schools in Edinburgh are to be

:00:58. > :01:01.closed indefinitely from Monday because of concerns over their

:01:02. > :01:07.construction Camara five of them are high schools. They are all built

:01:08. > :01:10.under a public-private partnership. The company that built the schools

:01:11. > :01:13.has been taken over but they are managed and operated by the

:01:14. > :01:18.Edinburgh Schools Partnership. The council says it feels let down by

:01:19. > :01:21.this company and says although it is a precautionary measure to close the

:01:22. > :01:32.schools, it issued a statement saying ... Company that built these

:01:33. > :01:35.schools has also built schools in Glasgow and Fife, there are safety

:01:36. > :01:40.inspections being carried out there but here in Edinburgh, the immediate

:01:41. > :01:45.concern will be for the pupils, who are due back here on Monday after

:01:46. > :01:48.the Easter holidays. They are putting in contingency plans for

:01:49. > :01:53.them over the next few weeks, particularly as we head into exam

:01:54. > :01:57.time, when it will be a stressful period for people. The council say

:01:58. > :02:01.they are putting in place contingency measures to try to help

:02:02. > :02:05.those pupils who are about to sit their exams. They say they will

:02:06. > :02:06.update parents every step of the way as they try to get the schools

:02:07. > :02:07.reopened. Steelworks at Clydebridge

:02:08. > :02:09.and Dalzell have officially been Both Lanarkshire sites were shut

:02:10. > :02:12.down by Tata three months ago, But Liberty House say

:02:13. > :02:18.150 jobs will return, as production starts up again

:02:19. > :02:37.later this year. Out with the old... And in with the

:02:38. > :02:41.new. It was all change at the Dalzell steel plant this morning,

:02:42. > :02:48.raising new hope for the business here. As the keys were handed over

:02:49. > :02:53.to the new owner. You basically take steel slabs, and you need a few

:02:54. > :02:59.things to do that competitively, you need the skill set, which the plant

:03:00. > :03:05.has, an amazing workforce. There is a market in the UK. The only thing

:03:06. > :03:08.we need is a competitive cost. A century ago, 100,000 people were

:03:09. > :03:12.employed in the Scottish steel industry. The mill here at

:03:13. > :03:16.Motherwell and one at Clydebridge both have a proud heritage. When

:03:17. > :03:21.Tata announced they were to be mothballed, it seemed the industry

:03:22. > :03:25.was finished in Scotland, 250 people laid off. But there was hope. Key

:03:26. > :03:28.workers were kept on stand-by at the plants so they could restart

:03:29. > :03:32.operations quickly. The move was backed by a support package from the

:03:33. > :03:36.Scottish Government, which has paid off, and there are hopes the

:03:37. > :03:43.industry can be great once again. This will work, there is a good

:03:44. > :03:45.business plan in place, we have always said we have a good

:03:46. > :03:49.workforce, and I am more than hopeful that this will re-emerge and

:03:50. > :03:54.hopefully one day steel-making will be reintroduced in Scotland. The

:03:55. > :03:57.Liberty flag flies here as a symbol of new optimism and work is due to

:03:58. > :04:02.start here in August with an initial of new optimism and work is due to

:04:03. > :04:06.workforce of around 150 people. What happens next depends on a very

:04:07. > :04:07.uncertain steel market but Liberty say they are here to stay in

:04:08. > :04:08.Scotland. An investigation is to look

:04:09. > :04:10.into how organisations such as Aberdeen Council

:04:11. > :04:12.previously dealt with the 16-year-old killer of

:04:13. > :04:15.school pupil Bailey Gwynne, who was stabbed at

:04:16. > :04:19.his school last October. One of the aims of the review

:04:20. > :04:22.is to establish how organisations might change the way they work,

:04:23. > :04:24.in order to safeguard on the day of the stabbing

:04:25. > :04:35.last October. A 16-year-old who cannot be named

:04:36. > :04:39.was last month convicted of the culpable homicide

:04:40. > :04:42.of Bailey Gwynne. But were previous warnings about

:04:43. > :04:44.the killer's behaviour A question this independent

:04:45. > :04:51.review might answer. The killer regularly had

:04:52. > :04:53.a knife and knuckle-dusters at school and was spoken

:04:54. > :04:55.to about the dangers of And there is the significance of

:04:56. > :05:03.what happened here. The killer's lawyer

:05:04. > :05:05.has described as "inaccurate" reports that his client

:05:06. > :05:07.was involved in and insisted the boy had not come

:05:08. > :05:13.to the attention But we have evidence that he did

:05:14. > :05:18.attack a fellow pupil The assault involved a second child

:05:19. > :05:24.and left the victim in hospital, where he was

:05:25. > :05:37.treated for concussion. After a police investigation, the

:05:38. > :05:41.case was passed to Aberdeen City Council. We have seen a letter from

:05:42. > :05:46.the parents of the victims to a senior official about the attack. It

:05:47. > :05:50.specifically named the child who went on to become daily's killer. --

:05:51. > :05:54.Bailey's killer. and we have seen correspondence

:05:55. > :05:56.from that official and the police's response

:05:57. > :05:59.to the assault. As we revealed

:06:00. > :06:01.earlier this year, the victim's parents warned

:06:02. > :06:02.that the boy who went on to become

:06:03. > :06:04.Bailey's killer could strike again with more

:06:05. > :06:06.serious consequences. We have spoken to credible

:06:07. > :06:08.witnesses at subsequent case review meetings where

:06:09. > :06:10.the parents repeated that warning. The terms of the review will examine

:06:11. > :06:12.the extent to which public agencies were involved with

:06:13. > :06:15.Bailey's killer and whether they correctly assessed

:06:16. > :06:20.the risk he posed. One of those who first voiced

:06:21. > :06:23.concerns about the killer's behaviour, a former MP,

:06:24. > :06:26.says that the review must reveal The Muslim Council of Scotland have

:06:27. > :06:38.asked imams around the country to stress the importance of respect

:06:39. > :06:41.for all, during Friday prayers. The request came in response

:06:42. > :06:44.to a statement earlier this week by the man accused of killing

:06:45. > :06:48.the Glasgow shopkeeper Asad Shah. The council say Ahmadis,

:06:49. > :06:51.of which Mr Shah was a member, have the right to freedom

:06:52. > :06:54.of their beliefs - a view echoed today at

:06:55. > :06:56.Edinburgh Central Mosque. The imam there says he hopes

:06:57. > :06:59.something positive will emerge Hearts have dented Aberdeen's

:07:00. > :07:05.premiership title challenge with a 2-1 win over

:07:06. > :07:09.the Dons at Tynecastle. after Simon Church had put

:07:10. > :07:16.the visitors ahead. Celtic could go eight

:07:17. > :07:18.points clear if they win Third-placed Hearts are nine

:07:19. > :07:20.points behind Aberdeen Glasgow Warriors moved

:07:21. > :07:27.to third in the Pro12, in a 43-14 bonus-point win

:07:28. > :07:34.over Zebre. The victory

:07:35. > :07:35.in the rearranged fixture Glasgow are now two points behind

:07:36. > :07:42.Pro12 leaders Leinster and Connacht respectively, with

:07:43. > :07:45.three games remaining. They travel to fourth-placed

:07:46. > :07:49.Scarlets next Saturday. Well, it's over to Kawser now

:07:50. > :08:02.with the weather outlook Good evening. Cloud and rain will be

:08:03. > :08:05.the forecast for the rest of the night, at least for northern parts

:08:06. > :08:11.of the country. We had some brightness today, this from North

:08:12. > :08:15.Berwick, where we saw the best of any brightness. This weather front

:08:16. > :08:19.extending all the way from Scotland and Northern Ireland down to

:08:20. > :08:24.England, spreading further East. We will continue to see outbreaks of

:08:25. > :08:29.rain through the night. Some of it quite wintry, especially on the

:08:30. > :08:34.hills. Further North, we could see some snow but already clearing by

:08:35. > :08:39.the early hours. Where we have a clearer skies, temperatures falling

:08:40. > :08:43.to around freezing, possibly some icy spots. Tomorrow morning, a good

:08:44. > :08:48.deal of dry and bright weather, especially across the South West.

:08:49. > :08:52.Elsewhere, more in the way of cloud, a chilly start, and here is the

:08:53. > :08:57.front towards the North and North East, where it looks to linger for

:08:58. > :09:01.much of the day, bringing outbreaks of rain in Caithness and into

:09:02. > :09:06.Orkney. Shetland looks like it will be largely dry for much of the day.

:09:07. > :09:10.Across the rest of the UK, that front extends all the way towards

:09:11. > :09:14.the East coast, where will -- we will continue to see outbreaks of

:09:15. > :09:18.rain. Sunny spells and scattered showers elsewhere. They could be

:09:19. > :09:22.wintry over the moors into Wales. For the Grand National, via

:09:23. > :09:27.Greystone, one or two of these showers could come with the risk of

:09:28. > :09:33.some hail and thunder. That same cost of showers will move in to the

:09:34. > :09:36.South West of Scotland in tomorrow evening. Elsewhere, clearer skies

:09:37. > :09:41.and for the far North and North East, that weather front brings some

:09:42. > :09:47.cloudy and wet weather as we look ahead to Sunday. Sunday looks to be

:09:48. > :09:50.largely dry to start with. The best of the sunshine in the South and

:09:51. > :09:56.South West. Temperatures reaching up to 12 Celsius. Elsewhere, we hang on

:09:57. > :10:02.to cloudy and damp weather. For all, quite a strong easterly wind.

:10:03. > :10:04.Have a good weekend, goodbye.
