:00:08. > :00:12.A group of senior UK Independence Party activists

:00:13. > :00:14.are calling for their leader in Scotland -

:00:15. > :00:20.In a letter to party bosses - seen by Reporting Scotland -

:00:21. > :00:23.the group warns that unless a new spokesman

:00:24. > :00:26.is appointed their Holyrood election campaign will be damaged and the EU

:00:27. > :00:37.Here's our political correspondent Glenn Campbell.

:00:38. > :00:44.plant in Edinburgh on the day he published its Holyrood manifesto but

:00:45. > :00:51.the smiles mask deep divisions inside this party. At the end of

:00:52. > :00:57.February ten key activists in Ukip Scotland including five local party

:00:58. > :00:59.chairman wrote to party bosses in London complaining about

:01:00. > :01:04.dysfunctional management of Ukip Scotland and calling for the

:01:05. > :01:09.leadership team to be cleared out without action, they said Ukip's

:01:10. > :01:13.Holyrood election campaign would be seriously impaired and its efforts

:01:14. > :01:19.in the EU referendum campaign would be jeopardised. Waiting to grasp the

:01:20. > :01:23.opportunity... Ukip's regional organiser in Scotland is Kevin

:01:24. > :01:29.Newton. The letter says he has failed and should be replaced. Ukip

:01:30. > :01:33.Scotland's chairman stood down after being charged with making indecent

:01:34. > :01:42.phone calls. The letter says he should be neither seen nor heard

:01:43. > :01:48.until the court case is resolved. Euro MP David Cockburn is Ukip's

:01:49. > :01:51.leader in Scotland. The letter says he is not suited to being the

:01:52. > :01:56.Scottish face of the Brexit campaign and should be replaced as lead

:01:57. > :01:57.spokesperson. This former Ukip activist in Glasgow agrees that

:01:58. > :02:01.change is needed at the top. The party's really autocratic,

:02:02. > :02:04.it is a pure dictatorship, so there will be no change

:02:05. > :02:06.in Scotland unless the top Despite the criticism David Coburn

:02:07. > :02:14.continues to make the case No action appears to have been

:02:15. > :02:19.taken by UK party bosses. He is colourful, he is larger than

:02:20. > :02:28.life. He just occasionally says things

:02:29. > :02:31.that perhaps he might regret later. When you're a small party with no

:02:32. > :02:34.prospect of being elected to When you rise in the polls

:02:35. > :02:39.and people can see there's the prospect of getting elected

:02:40. > :02:52.into Hollyrood all sorts Mr Cockburn dismisses the criticism

:02:53. > :02:58.as nonsense from a disgruntled minority -- Cockburn. Something, no

:02:59. > :03:04.longer party members. He is expected to be joined by Nigel Farage on the

:03:05. > :03:11.campaign trail in Inverness tomorrow, as both are ready to face

:03:12. > :03:12.as many questions about Ukip as they fight for seats in Scottish

:03:13. > :03:14.Parliament. The majority of Edinburgh schools

:03:15. > :03:17.closed amid building safety fears have resumed teaching -

:03:18. > :03:19.though many at The final 600 affected

:03:20. > :03:24.pupils restart tomorrow, The delayed restart for 17 schools

:03:25. > :03:33.with structural defects Thousands of children sent

:03:34. > :03:40.to different classrooms around Their own school buildings

:03:41. > :03:47.are too dangerous to open. Because it has been here longer

:03:48. > :03:55.and we have more fun. It feels awkward being bussed

:03:56. > :03:58.all over the city but I am glad It takes time to transport

:03:59. > :04:02.the children at rush hour, It might be fun for the children

:04:03. > :04:10.but one week extra holiday at Easter has meant extra childcare costs

:04:11. > :04:14.and more time off work for many families, and now there are fresh

:04:15. > :04:17.concerns how this disruption I am more scared today

:04:18. > :04:22.about them going on coaches. It is a pain but I would rather

:04:23. > :04:31.they were safe than in harms way. The education will be spoilt

:04:32. > :04:38.because they have to travel. Warm welcomes from many schools

:04:39. > :04:42.but this school had yet another day At first it seemed the impossible

:04:43. > :04:50.task, the area we were in was full of rubbish and was not clean

:04:51. > :04:53.and did not look like classrooms, but thanks to the staff it's been

:04:54. > :05:00.transformed into a lovely school. The school buildings affected

:05:01. > :05:03.are owned and managed by Edinburgh Again no update come in a statement,

:05:04. > :05:08.no interviews from them. We've had to put these operations

:05:09. > :05:14.in place, there's no doubt of it, not a perfect situation,

:05:15. > :05:19.clearly disruptive, time to minimise the disruption as far

:05:20. > :05:24.as we possibly can. Some schools are split over several

:05:25. > :05:27.locations, their teaching team fragmented, siblings

:05:28. > :05:29.separated and parents worried there is still no word

:05:30. > :05:31.when this major displacement Politicians and trades unionists

:05:32. > :05:40.have pledged to support the 200 workers whose jobs are under threat

:05:41. > :05:43.at the Carron Phoenix The parent company is planning

:05:44. > :05:49.to transfer production to Slovakia. Here's our political

:05:50. > :06:01.editor Brian Taylor. It was Nicola Sturgeon's turn to

:06:02. > :06:11.address the Scottish TUC delegates behind me. Her theme was a

:06:12. > :06:14.willingness to intervene in industry to protect jobs were that is

:06:15. > :06:20.possible. It turned out to be appropriate. What can politicians do

:06:21. > :06:25.in the face of factory closures and job losses? They concluded that the

:06:26. > :06:35.Government had intervened to protect Lanarkshire steel jobs. And so when

:06:36. > :06:38.she met workers from Carron Phoenix here in Dundee she promised to do

:06:39. > :06:43.all she could while stressing that it would be vital first to gather

:06:44. > :06:47.the facts. We will do everything possible to secure those jobs and

:06:48. > :06:50.that is the and I have given to the workers and the trade unions. We

:06:51. > :06:54.made is a commitment with the steel plants and helping you to secure a

:06:55. > :06:57.future for them. At this stage I am not going to tell someone that I can

:06:58. > :07:01.deliver what I don't know yet that not going to tell someone that I can

:07:02. > :07:09.they can deliver but I will promise to, as we did in steel, though no

:07:10. > :07:17.stone unturned. -- there is going to be an outcome, ... This is a very

:07:18. > :07:22.worrying time for people in Aberdeen and full Court and elsewhere where

:07:23. > :07:26.they are losing jobs. We have to redouble efforts to help people who

:07:27. > :07:30.have fallen out of work. Help them get the skills and agencies they

:07:31. > :07:35.need. Long term we have dementia we have government support available

:07:36. > :07:39.for people all the time. I think the economy in Scotland need a robust

:07:40. > :07:42.intervention strategy to make sure we are supporting vital industries

:07:43. > :07:46.in Scotland but we also need to make sure we have got a skilled workforce

:07:47. > :07:50.and that is what we have got at Carron Phoenix. There are some

:07:51. > :07:55.excellent workers and we need to support them. We need to invest in

:07:56. > :07:58.reskilling, retraining, education is at the heart of this. We need to get

:07:59. > :08:02.all of our government agencies working together on the ground and

:08:03. > :08:06.the sure are in their singing is there are ways we can take this

:08:07. > :08:10.forward, whether that is a new buyer or a team to help with the workforce

:08:11. > :08:13.themselves, but we also need to have a regime in Scotland, a business

:08:14. > :08:19.regime that supports the companies that are here. And of course the

:08:20. > :08:22.Scottish TUC here showing their sympathy for the Carron Phoenix

:08:23. > :08:26.workers and pleading for the support to help them in that regard. In

:08:27. > :08:30.terms of the election, the focus tomorrow moving on to the SNP

:08:31. > :08:31.manifesto and I am certain that jobs and the economy will be centre stage

:08:32. > :08:33.for that as well. The left-wing alliance Rise has

:08:34. > :08:35.unveiled its manifesto for the Holyrood election -

:08:36. > :08:37.calling for the Scottish Parliament to have the power to call

:08:38. > :08:39.an independence referendum They've also detailed their plans

:08:40. > :08:45.on how they would end austerity Our political correspondent

:08:46. > :08:49.Andrew Kerr was at the launch All change on the left,

:08:50. > :08:56.a new alliance of socialists, Rise, grew out of the referendum campaign,

:08:57. > :08:59.the four letters spelling out what they think

:09:00. > :09:04.is a radical perspectives. In the manifesto, beginning

:09:05. > :09:06.with the letter R, how they demand respect and are living income

:09:07. > :09:09.for unpaid carers. I for independence, they want

:09:10. > :09:13.Holyrood to have the power to call a second referendum

:09:14. > :09:17.in the next five years. S is for socialism, a plan

:09:18. > :09:25.for the richest to pay higher taxes and the scrapping of the council tax

:09:26. > :09:27.on income-based tax. And the E for environmentalism,

:09:28. > :09:32.they want free public transport. So the movement turned into a party,

:09:33. > :09:36.how professional is it? They got the referendum date wrong

:09:37. > :09:45.in the manifesto introduction, mixed percentage with pense

:09:46. > :09:48.and they get the threshold wrong Small details, says the party,

:09:49. > :09:51.look at the bigger picture. Rise offers an alternative,

:09:52. > :09:54.a manifesto no one else is offering, we are talking about a living wage

:09:55. > :09:57.to eradicate poverty wages, 100,000 new houses, affordable

:09:58. > :10:00.housing and a second referendum primarily because that is the big

:10:01. > :10:03.issue in this election, the big issue in Scottish politics,

:10:04. > :10:11.and for business. Colin Fox was a socialist MP,

:10:12. > :10:15.the left in Scotland has Jean is another candidate

:10:16. > :10:29.with a party past leaving the SNP when it ended

:10:30. > :10:31.its opposition to Nato. Yet some SNP supporters say this

:10:32. > :10:33.party risks splitting There was never going to be one

:10:34. > :10:37.route to independence and I don't believe that one party will ever get

:10:38. > :10:40.there and I think the SNP The independence referendum

:10:41. > :10:45.fundamentally changed the political landscape and now the party hopes

:10:46. > :10:48.voters will rise up to the prospect 450 sheep - worth an estimated

:10:49. > :10:59.?60,000 - have been stolen The cheviots were taken

:11:00. > :11:05.sometime between Sunday Police Scotland say the theft

:11:06. > :11:09.of such a large number of animals would have needed careful planning

:11:10. > :11:14.and several vehicles. It's over to Christopher now

:11:15. > :11:25.with the weather forecast Hello. Good evening. A lovely day

:11:26. > :11:30.from many of us. Blue skies, clear skies, but tonight that means it is

:11:31. > :11:36.rather chilly. Driver most of the twins. Dawn tomorrow a touch of

:11:37. > :11:40.frost in countryside. A few light showers but most it is a bright and

:11:41. > :11:46.sunny start to Wednesday morning. Any mist patches short lived. They

:11:47. > :11:49.will be gone by most of us being up. Five, six, seven Celsius early

:11:50. > :11:54.tomorrow morning and some cloud across a good part of the north-west

:11:55. > :12:01.Highlands. Clouds getting up towards Orkney and Shetland. As we head

:12:02. > :12:07.through Wednesday, the cloud across the north-west will slowly drifts

:12:08. > :12:11.out into watersports of Aberdeenshire. Many will see cloud

:12:12. > :12:16.bubble up through the course of the day. Across the UK, set fair. Plenty

:12:17. > :12:23.of sunshine. Temperatures up to the mid-teens for the heart of. If it

:12:24. > :12:29.were a breeze in the coast. -- a bit of a breeze. 12 or 13 Celsius at

:12:30. > :12:33.best. If you get the sunshine with my twins, lovely. Some brightness to

:12:34. > :12:39.end the day in the West and showers continuing at times. High pressure

:12:40. > :12:45.just about holding on on Thursday but retreating westwards. A sign of

:12:46. > :12:50.change of that but for most it is a dry and settled today. Plenty of

:12:51. > :12:53.sunshine through central and southern Scotland. Through the

:12:54. > :13:00.course of the day the cloud tripped southwards. Judge Melville in the

:13:01. > :13:06.south, maybe 15 Celsius. As we head towards Friday in the weekend, quite

:13:07. > :13:11.a chilly feel. We will start to see that on Friday. Let's look at the

:13:12. > :13:16.detail. Temperature wise, six, seven, eight Celsius. Further south

:13:17. > :13:20.still some sunshine. Cold there with us into the weekend. It will be

:13:21. > :13:22.chilly at times. With that a number of showers and some of them wintry.

:13:23. > :13:27.Our next update is during Breakfast at 6:25am tomorrow morning.

:13:28. > :13:31.But from everyone on the late team here in Glasgow -
