:00:00. > :00:00.growth. Join me now on and 11 in Scotland.

:00:00. > :00:12.Here on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:13. > :00:16.The high street chain BHS is to be wound down,

:00:17. > :00:19.16 stores in Scotland are to have closing-down sales.

:00:20. > :00:21.While administrators continue to look for buyers, at least 800

:00:22. > :00:27.Aileen Clarke has been speaking to shoppers.

:00:28. > :00:30.At BHS in Glasgow's Sauchiehall Street, it's latest sale

:00:31. > :00:32.was still attracting customers this afternoon.

:00:33. > :00:35.But the next sale will be of a closing-down variety and that

:00:36. > :00:37.has come as disappointing news to many shoppers.

:00:38. > :00:39.It is a shame nobody can actually rescue it

:00:40. > :00:43.because I think it is a good shop, and as well as getting clothes

:00:44. > :00:46.for myself, you can get it for the babies and guys and things

:00:47. > :00:50.It is just because it was always there.

:00:51. > :00:56.I get all of my bedding sort of stuff, household stuff

:00:57. > :00:58.from British Home Stores, so it will be a big loss.

:00:59. > :01:01.We buy clothes, my aunt and I in it, quite a lot.

:01:02. > :01:11.BHS has been a fixture on our high streets and in our shopping

:01:12. > :01:14.There are 16 Scottish stores employing hundreds of staff.

:01:15. > :01:16.The announcement today comes despite attempts

:01:17. > :01:24.BHS has tried to accommodate the move towards more online

:01:25. > :01:27.shopping, it has even tried to harness the cult of celebrity

:01:28. > :01:30.with a specialised range of homeware and baby clothes.

:01:31. > :01:33.But efforts like these, it seems, have not been enough to make it

:01:34. > :01:42.It is never really somewhere I have shopped.

:01:43. > :01:46.But it is never nice when something of that size goes with so many

:01:47. > :01:53.What about yourself, madam, is it a shop you would shop in?

:01:54. > :01:55.Not personally but my nanna would shop in there.

:01:56. > :01:57.Ever since I was young I can remember that BHS

:01:58. > :02:03.The grey pound however is not enough to retain a good old-fashioned

:02:04. > :02:08.department store in the current cutthroat retail climate.

:02:09. > :02:11.Earlier, I spoke to our business and economy editor, Douglas Fraser,

:02:12. > :02:21.who was outside one of the biggest BHS stores in Scotland.

:02:22. > :02:25.Fashion is a notoriously fickle business and to keep up you have to

:02:26. > :02:29.keep the range of causing fresh and your brand attractive to shoppers.

:02:30. > :02:35.You have to have a strong online presence, particularly in the face

:02:36. > :02:38.of very, very tough competition. This kind of market for family value

:02:39. > :02:44.clothing and home, it has come in from stores like Primark and some of

:02:45. > :02:48.the big stores moving into the kind of market that BHS has dominated in

:02:49. > :02:52.many town centres for a long time. The other factor that has been going

:02:53. > :02:57.on is the management of it. Recent orders have taken a great deal of

:02:58. > :03:02.profit and rent out of BHS but not invested much of that and left a

:03:03. > :03:05.large hall in the pension fund that will need rested. The other factor

:03:06. > :03:10.is that if you take a city centre location like this in Glasgow, I can

:03:11. > :03:17.that will sell some kinds of things. that will sell some kinds of things.

:03:18. > :03:22.-- hole. But it will have a big effect on terms like Kirkcaldy,

:03:23. > :03:27.Clydebank and Kilmarnock were BHS has been the anchor store and bought

:03:28. > :03:39.are bullied at town centred districts. -- BHS has been the

:03:40. > :03:41.anchor store and what are otherwise else outfitted town centre

:03:42. > :03:47.districts. Nicola Sturgeon has promised

:03:48. > :03:50.an inquiry to find out if more could have been done to prevent

:03:51. > :03:53.the death of the toddler Liam Fee. But she told MSPs that the only

:03:54. > :03:56.people responsible were the two Here's our political

:03:57. > :03:59.editor, Brian Taylor. Nicola Sturgeon arrived ready for

:04:00. > :04:00.questions on education. She arrived ready

:04:01. > :04:03.for questions on jobs. But the First Minister also knew

:04:04. > :04:07.that one image alone has dominated Scottish discourse -

:04:08. > :04:09.that of two-year-old Liam Fee, murdered by his mother

:04:10. > :04:11.and her partner. The toddler's tragically

:04:12. > :04:12.short life ended here, And so it fell to the newly-elected

:04:13. > :04:17.MSP for that constituency But will the First Minister

:04:18. > :04:21.assure me that once this review is concluded,

:04:22. > :04:23.all relevant facts pertaining to Liam's short life

:04:24. > :04:25.and his untimely death will be placed in the public domain and that

:04:26. > :04:28.any failings of the relevant organisations involved will be

:04:29. > :04:29.dealt with robustly? Nicola Sturgeon said

:04:30. > :04:31.there was a Case Review under The First Minister urged publication

:04:32. > :04:35.of the eventual report to drive She said the murder had also

:04:36. > :04:39.prompted a fresh look at Scotland's entire child protection network,

:04:40. > :04:43.including the prospect of implementing reforms

:04:44. > :04:44.already suggested. But she also reminded MSPs that

:04:45. > :04:46.primary blame must lie with Nyomi and Rachel Fee,

:04:47. > :04:50.convicted of the toddler's murder. The only people responsible

:04:51. > :04:52.for the death of Liam Fee are the people who were

:04:53. > :04:56.convicted of his murder. But there are questions rightly

:04:57. > :05:01.being asked about whether there is any more that the system

:05:02. > :05:03.could or should have done Those questions must be examined

:05:04. > :05:08.in detail and answers must be given and that is what will now happen

:05:09. > :05:10.in the weeks and months The question session

:05:11. > :05:15.was different today. Longer, more opportunity

:05:16. > :05:18.for backbenchers to participate. But alongside this freshness,

:05:19. > :05:21.this openness, lingering thoughts A 15-year-old boy has been arrested

:05:22. > :05:35.in connection with hoax bomb threats The arrest follows incidents

:05:36. > :05:38.in Glasgow, Clydebank, Last week, pupils were moved out

:05:39. > :05:41.of some school buildings Royal Troon Golf Club has brought

:05:42. > :05:56.forward a vote on whether to admit women members

:05:57. > :05:57.before this year's Open. It follows Muirfield's

:05:58. > :05:59.removal from the Open rota, after the East Lothian club voted

:06:00. > :06:02.against admitting women. Chris McLaughlin

:06:03. > :06:08.reports from Troon. In the Ayrshire sunshine,

:06:09. > :06:12.Royal Troon prepares for the 140th Royal Open Championship,

:06:13. > :06:14.yes, but also for an historic vote that could see membership of this

:06:15. > :06:20.exclusive club opened all. Internally, we have a very

:06:21. > :06:23.harmonious and comfortable relationship with the ladies golf

:06:24. > :06:26.club of Troon and neither of us wishes any change,

:06:27. > :06:28.but both clubs recognise that the world has moved

:06:29. > :06:33.on and that it is important that we reflect that in society

:06:34. > :06:36.and that we also are part of that A course steeped in history,

:06:37. > :06:55.the game's great support the course and celebrated

:06:56. > :06:57.success down the ages. And it is with those memories

:06:58. > :07:00.and traditions in mind that this club is looking to change,

:07:01. > :07:05.and some say, modernise. They know if they continue

:07:06. > :07:09.to exclude women, the R, the Royal and Ancient,

:07:10. > :07:12.will take away their championship status but there is also a financial

:07:13. > :07:14.element of the vote. Members have been told their fees

:07:15. > :07:17.could double if they lose out Something that has happened

:07:18. > :07:36.to Muirfieldafter they voted no It has become a bigger issue

:07:37. > :07:40.in the past five to ten years, when The Open Championship can't be

:07:41. > :07:43.going to men only clubs Muirfield made the decision,

:07:44. > :07:48.let's hope that is reversed The Royal Troon, let's hope

:07:49. > :07:53.they will make the right decision, Women can play Troon,

:07:54. > :07:56.but what about the traditions I don't think that the traditions

:07:57. > :08:00.are off-putting, in some sense the traditions

:08:01. > :08:02.are the foundation of this sport, so you can take them

:08:03. > :08:04.for what they are. Would you two like to be

:08:05. > :08:10.members of Royal Troon? We are not golfers, not

:08:11. > :08:12.particularly, it is too expensive Royal Troon says it is finally open

:08:13. > :08:17.to change and it The European Aviation Safety Agency

:08:18. > :08:25.has ordered the grounding of two types of Super Puma helicopters

:08:26. > :08:27.in the wake of April's crash It follows the discovery of evidence

:08:28. > :08:32.of metal fatigue in fragments found Iain Stuart from Aberdeenshire

:08:33. > :08:40.was among those killed in the crash. Nine people rescued after a yacht

:08:41. > :08:43.caught fire off Shetland this The incident happened around 50

:08:44. > :08:47.miles south-west of the islands. All those on board abandoned

:08:48. > :08:50.the yacht and were picked up They landed unharmed

:08:51. > :08:53.in Scalloway Harbour There's only one more day for people

:08:54. > :09:02.to respond to a consultation on whether Air Passenger Duty

:09:03. > :09:04.should be halved. The duty, which is paid as part

:09:05. > :09:06.of airplane tickets, But it will be devolved

:09:07. > :09:10.to Holyrood next year. The Government here would

:09:11. > :09:24.like to cut it in half, There is at the final call for Air

:09:25. > :09:29.Passenger Duty? That portion of a plane ticket that goes directly to

:09:30. > :09:33.the Government's offers. A consultation on the subject ends on

:09:34. > :09:34.Friday and these high-flyers from the aviation industry have said that

:09:35. > :09:40.cutting the tax would be good for the aviation industry have said that

:09:41. > :09:42.business. For every 1 million additional passengers, it has an

:09:43. > :09:46.additional ?200 million benefit to the economy which is significant.

:09:47. > :09:51.Every aircraft we place will increase the number of crew that we

:09:52. > :09:55.employ locally and we employ them on local contracts, we do not employ

:09:56. > :09:57.people from the rest of Europe. Only locally which will improve

:09:58. > :10:02.employment. The Scottish Government agrees. Even

:10:03. > :10:05.though it is a significant source of revenue. Air Passenger Duty

:10:06. > :10:09.generates around ?300 million every year for the Scottish Government and

:10:10. > :10:13.critics have said that at a time of prosperity that money is so be

:10:14. > :10:16.needed. They have also said that because of climate change the

:10:17. > :10:19.government should be deterring people from flying, not encouraging

:10:20. > :10:24.them by making it even cheaper. It people from flying, not encouraging

:10:25. > :10:29.is a difficult balancing act. So are these travellers in favour?

:10:30. > :10:33.Absolutely, yes, we travel a lot. My daughter lives in Canada, that would

:10:34. > :10:37.help a lot. We should do everything possible to try and tackle climate

:10:38. > :10:41.change. That is what would be the overriding concern.

:10:42. > :10:46.Not for me. The Government has said it is on course to cut climate

:10:47. > :10:49.emissions by 2020 but some environmentalists are dubious.

:10:50. > :10:53.A blanket cut on tax on aviation will increase the number of

:10:54. > :10:58.passengers and that is going to increase the number of greenhouse

:10:59. > :11:01.gas emissions from aviation. We have seen huge growth in this area

:11:02. > :11:04.gas emissions from aviation. We have despite a PDA, we do not need to cut

:11:05. > :11:08.it. Environmentally and economically we do not think we can afford it.

:11:09. > :11:13.The SNP are determined to get this measure through parliament but as a

:11:14. > :11:14.minority government they might find that opposition parties keep them

:11:15. > :11:18.grounded. -- APD. Now, it's over to Kirsteen

:11:19. > :11:30.with the weather outlook Thank you, Sally. And look beautiful

:11:31. > :11:34.day across the West of Scotland. This is where we will have the

:11:35. > :11:37.clearest skies overnight. Otherwise it is looking rather cloudy and we

:11:38. > :11:42.will have some fairly light and affecting much of the North with

:11:43. > :11:46.some misty and murky conditions. Enter tomorrow morning then, much of

:11:47. > :11:52.the East and across the North under a fair amount of cloud. Across parts

:11:53. > :11:55.of Dumfries and Galloway for much of the Glasgow area, Argyll and through

:11:56. > :11:58.much of the North West Highlands as well we will have clear blue skies

:11:59. > :12:03.greeting is once again tomorrow morning. Across the lights of

:12:04. > :12:08.bullets and into Sutherland, kidneys and much of the North East, it is a

:12:09. > :12:12.much cloudier prospect with some light and patchy rain. Shetland

:12:13. > :12:15.fares better in terms of drier weather tomorrow morning although

:12:16. > :12:19.feeling chilly here with brisk North easterly winds. Looking at the UK as

:12:20. > :12:23.a whole as he go through tomorrow, we will see some further been across

:12:24. > :12:28.Eastern and Northern Scotland. Some of that could be on the heavy side

:12:29. > :12:32.with the odd rumble of thunder not out of the question. Some rain will

:12:33. > :12:34.feed into the Newcastle area, East Yorkshire and East Anglia, and also

:12:35. > :12:39.feed into the Newcastle area, East the London area. It will put chilly

:12:40. > :12:43.once again along the Eastern coast. The West fears best in terms of the

:12:44. > :12:48.sunshine again enter tomorrow afternoon, with height of around 21

:12:49. > :12:51.Celsius. Enter the evening across Scotland, Carl Cawston into Western

:12:52. > :12:57.areas with some light and patchy rain. Perhaps becoming that bit

:12:58. > :13:02.drier and brighter across the far North, Eastern areas will hold onto

:13:03. > :13:03.misty and murky conditions. Into Saturday, there will be a fair

:13:04. > :13:07.misty and murky conditions. Into amount of sunshine around.

:13:08. > :13:11.Especially across Scotland. With the warmth across parts of England and

:13:12. > :13:17.Wales, there will be a few sharp showers. One or two showers across

:13:18. > :13:21.Scotland at times with his 23 Celsius. Sunday, plenty of sunshine

:13:22. > :13:23.to come. Temperatures peaking at 24, 20 five Celsius. Chilly for the

:13:24. > :13:28.Eastern coast. Our next update is during Breakfast

:13:29. > :13:33.at 6:25 tomorrow morning.
