:00:17. > :00:32.The Education Secretary John Swinney has been visiting Aberdeen -

:00:33. > :00:37.as the local authority warns it may have to close schools

:00:38. > :00:42.Aberdeen City Council says the number of vacant

:00:43. > :00:46.teaching posts has doubled in the past twelve months.

:00:47. > :00:50.It's accusing the Scottish Government of leaving them "twisting

:00:51. > :01:34.Council has 134 vacancies and it is warnings some schools may have to

:01:35. > :01:38.close. At one point we didn't think we would be able to intake our S1

:01:39. > :01:41.pupils. We have seen numbers double since then and if this continues we

:01:42. > :01:45.will have to close schools or classes. The downturn in the oil and

:01:46. > :01:48.gas sector is proving a blessing and a curse. A curse according to the

:01:49. > :01:54.council because people losing their jobs are moving away and taking away

:01:55. > :01:57.their partners, many of them teachers. But a blessing because

:01:58. > :01:59.there is a pool of people who could be retrained as teachers according

:02:00. > :02:02.to the Scottish Government. Today the Education Secretary addressed

:02:03. > :02:05.head teachers with a pledge to retrain redundant or oil and gas

:02:06. > :02:07.workers as teachers but he said it was ultimately an issue for councils

:02:08. > :02:09.to resolve. Local authorities have to take their own decisions but

:02:10. > :02:12.obviously the government is prepared to work constructively with local

:02:13. > :02:16.government to address these problems. The City Council is yet to

:02:17. > :02:20.confirm which schools are under threat. It is accusing the Scottish

:02:21. > :02:25.Government of doing little to help. Judo medallist Stephanie Inglis has

:02:26. > :02:27.arrived back in Scotland to continue her recovery,

:02:28. > :02:29.after a motorbike Stephanie was left in a coma

:02:30. > :02:34.after the crash last month and doctors gave her just a one

:02:35. > :02:37.percent chance of survival. She's being treated at a specialist

:02:38. > :02:40.unit in Edinburgh's Western General hospital, and her condition is said

:02:41. > :02:48.to be stable. Senior figures in the offshore oil

:02:49. > :02:51.and gas industry have called for radical and urgent changes

:02:52. > :02:53.to prevent rapid decline. They say there are just two

:02:54. > :02:55.years in which to secure A report by PwC includes a proposal

:02:56. > :02:59.for a "super-joint-venture" It would mean companies

:03:00. > :03:14.sharing profits at times, and co-ordinating their work

:03:15. > :03:17.in smaller oil and gas fields. The Conservative cabinet minister,

:03:18. > :03:19.Michael Gove, has claimed a UK exit from the European Union could lead

:03:20. > :03:22.to Holyrood having But the First Minister,

:03:23. > :03:25.Nicola Sturgeon, has accused him Here's our political correspondent,

:03:26. > :03:47.Glenn Campbell. The EU has a big say overfishing and

:03:48. > :03:52.farming. Today Michael Gove suggested Brexit could also give the

:03:53. > :03:58.Scottish Government more influence over immigration. It seems to me

:03:59. > :04:02.unfair that you have an immigration policy that discriminates against

:04:03. > :04:06.folk from outside the EU. If we left the EU we could have an entirely

:04:07. > :04:14.fair immigration policy shaped to the needs of Scotland's economy and

:04:15. > :04:18.the whole of the UK. How would that work? Immigration policy for the

:04:19. > :04:23.whole of the UK including Scotland is decided by the Home Office and

:04:24. > :04:32.that wouldn't change if the UK leaves the EU. But what Leave

:04:33. > :04:36.campaign is suggesting is that in those circumstances the Scottish

:04:37. > :04:39.Government could negotiate with the UK Government to have some

:04:40. > :04:49.flexibility over who can and can't come and work and live in Scotland.

:04:50. > :04:52.Trying out new technology in Glasgow, the First Minister accused

:04:53. > :05:01.the leave campaign of inventing their own reality in an attempt to

:05:02. > :05:06.win votes. It won't have power over men -- over immigration unless there

:05:07. > :05:12.is an agreement to devolve power. It doesn't happen because we vote to

:05:13. > :05:14.leave the EU and to me that is an illustration of the fundamental

:05:15. > :05:21.dishonesty that lies at the heart of the Leave campaign. Nicola Sturgeon

:05:22. > :05:26.would dearly like Scottish flexibility on immigration but the

:05:27. > :05:33.UK Government which Michael Gove Serbs is against. UK ministers are

:05:34. > :05:45.not convinced Brexit would solve that. -- which Michael Gove serves.

:05:46. > :05:50.A deaf woman has gone missing after a night out in Glasgow.

:05:51. > :05:55.Kirsty Aitchison, a mother-of four from Robroyston,

:05:56. > :05:59.It's understood she was involved in an argument with someone

:06:00. > :06:03.She was wearing a black top, cream coloured skirt

:06:04. > :06:06.The Scottish Government has set out plans to widen access

:06:07. > :06:09.Couples who have children from a previous relationship,

:06:10. > :06:12.will be able to have fertility treatment for the first time.

:06:13. > :06:14.The number of cycles women undergo will also be increased

:06:15. > :06:24.The Public Health Minister, Aileen Campbell, said the changes

:06:25. > :06:27.would make IVF access in Scotland the fairest across the UK.

:06:28. > :06:29.At least 600 people gathered at George Square

:06:30. > :06:36.for a vigil in memory of the 49 victims

:06:37. > :06:39.of the shooting at a gay club in Florida.

:06:40. > :06:40.People left floral tributes and lit candles.

:06:41. > :06:43.The rainbow flag is flying at half mast above the city chambers.

:06:44. > :06:47.Members of the public, activists, civic leaders and sports teams

:06:48. > :06:49.gathered to stand in silence, light candles, and leave

:06:50. > :06:57.A piper played laments and those who came reflected on why

:06:58. > :07:02.People go to gay bars and clubs around the city all the time

:07:03. > :07:08.All these people were trying to do was have a good time.

:07:09. > :07:11.Someone took offence to that and did what he did.

:07:12. > :07:20.It shows that we are all standing together and are not going to give

:07:21. > :07:26.in to fear or hatred or anything like that.

:07:27. > :07:30.As the rainbow flag flies at half-mast from City Chambers,

:07:31. > :07:34.at least 600 people have gathered for a vigil in George Square,

:07:35. > :07:37.in memory of 49 people shot dead at a gay nightclub

:07:38. > :07:44.From some who shared the shooter's Afghan heritage,

:07:45. > :07:49.a keenness to distance themselves from what he did.

:07:50. > :07:52.These were all innocent human beings who are out there to enjoy

:07:53. > :08:00.This brutal killer, the murderer, he was of Afghan origin

:08:01. > :08:08.and we are Afghans, we are here to show solidarity

:08:09. > :08:18.with gays, lesbians, transgender, whatever their backgrounds are.

:08:19. > :08:25.The crowd applauded as two Police Scotland officers left tributes. The

:08:26. > :08:27.Organisers said today that today's event was designed to show support

:08:28. > :08:36.for LGBT people around the world and provide an opportunity

:08:37. > :08:39.A man has died in a crash involving a car and a lorry

:08:40. > :08:43.Emergency services were called to the scene between Auldgirth

:08:44. > :08:48.The road was closed for most of the afternoon

:08:49. > :08:53.Scotland's companies have reported a higher volume

:08:54. > :08:58.According to the Bank of Scotland's PMI report,

:08:59. > :09:01.the rate of expansion is at its highest for nine months.

:09:02. > :09:08.But workforce levels have fallen for the sixth month in a row.

:09:09. > :09:11.The three-week campaign to encourage owners of air weapons to hand them

:09:12. > :09:21.A change in the law means air guns will have to be licensed

:09:22. > :09:26.Police Scotland say it'll be a few days before they know exactly how

:09:27. > :09:38.but they said the total of 6000 in the first two

:09:39. > :09:40.weeks of the campaign, had been "a fantastic response".

:09:41. > :09:42.Plans have been unveiled to return the Stone

:09:43. > :09:46.The stone - on which Scotland's ancient kings were crowned -

:09:47. > :09:49.has been kept at Edinburgh Castle for the last 20 years.

:09:50. > :09:52.Before that, it spent almost seven centuries

:09:53. > :10:00.in Westminster Abbey in London, where it was taken by the English

:10:01. > :10:06.The plan to display it in Perth would form

:10:07. > :10:08.part of a ?20 million investment in the city's

:10:09. > :10:21.We think it will bring Invictus is from across the world, the Scottish

:10:22. > :10:24.diaspora would be very interested and we hope to see them here to

:10:25. > :10:27.visit the stone. A study by the music industry says

:10:28. > :10:36.the value of music tourism in Scotland last year

:10:37. > :10:38.was almost ?300 million. A report called Wish

:10:39. > :10:44.You Were Here found that more than 900,000

:10:45. > :10:46.people made visits linked to festivals,

:10:47. > :10:57.concerts and other music events. Today has been a somewhat cloudy and

:10:58. > :11:02.damp day across much of Scotland. Tonight is looking mostly dry, clear

:11:03. > :11:09.spells in the north but otherwise mainly cloudy. Missed for some of

:11:10. > :11:14.the coasts in the North Sea and the Glasgow area perhaps. Tomorrow

:11:15. > :11:21.morning a fairer amount of cloud around. Across the south-west around

:11:22. > :11:23.eight o'clock tomorrow. Perhaps some showery rain holding on here. Quite

:11:24. > :11:30.eight o'clock tomorrow. Perhaps some a lot of cloud in central and

:11:31. > :11:35.eastern Scotland. Some rain knocking on the door of Angus and

:11:36. > :11:40.Aberdeenshire. Plenty of dry right whether in the Western Highlands. A

:11:41. > :11:46.bit more cloud through the Western Isles with a few showers here and

:11:47. > :11:49.across the Northern isles, the likes of Caithness as well, a fine and

:11:50. > :11:55.bright start with plenty of sunshine. Some persistent and at

:11:56. > :12:02.times heavy pulses of rain feeding into much of the north-east. For

:12:03. > :12:05.many western areas and part of the south-west will have drier

:12:06. > :12:10.conditions with some brightness and temperatures peaking around 19.

:12:11. > :12:17.Cooler towards eastern and more coastal areas. Across the rest of

:12:18. > :12:21.the UK tomorrow afternoon we will have some heavy, thundery downpours,

:12:22. > :12:27.especially through England and Wales. Some bright spells in between

:12:28. > :12:32.the showers with light winds and highs around 19 Celsius. Towards

:12:33. > :12:37.Scotland towards the evening we will see rain pushing west and perhaps

:12:38. > :12:41.Scotland towards the evening we will some heavy thundery showers across

:12:42. > :12:46.the south-west. Into Wednesday, low pressure very much still in the

:12:47. > :12:51.driving seat and we will have plenty of showers circulating around this

:12:52. > :12:56.area of low pressure. The isobars tightening across Scotland and

:12:57. > :12:59.north-easterly airflow so cooler and fresher conditions for most. Any

:13:00. > :13:04.rain clearing away to the south through the course of the day and

:13:05. > :13:10.elsewhere a mixture of bright spells and heavy thundery showers.

:13:11. > :13:14.Thursday, really more of the same, a few heavy, thundery showers, in

:13:15. > :13:23.Scotland the best of the weather will be in the West.

:13:24. > :13:30.And that is Reporting Scotland, our next update is during Rep first at
