:01:12. > :01:14.Reid was stopped at Lima airport with that consignment of cocaine.
:01:15. > :01:19.That is a situation that no parent wants to face.
:01:20. > :01:21.And this has been a very difficult episode
:01:22. > :01:25.Mr Reid took part in an anti-drug smuggling film
:01:26. > :01:38.Laying bear the heartache of the family.
:01:39. > :01:40.Events such as Christmas are nonexistent for us,
:01:41. > :01:44.It was in August 2013 that his daughter was stopped with friend
:01:45. > :01:45.Michaella McCollum from Northern Ireland
:01:46. > :01:47.with 11 kilos of cocaine in their luggage.
:01:48. > :01:49.Hidden inside food packets, they were heading for
:01:50. > :01:53.At first she protested her innocence, saying they were forced
:01:54. > :01:55.to carry the drugs but they later pled guilty, and receiving a
:01:56. > :02:00.sentence of six years and eight months.
:02:01. > :02:03.Today, at home, a range of views on her early release.
:02:04. > :02:12.Six years should be six years because all it will do is give
:02:13. > :02:14.people the incentive to think, well, if I
:02:15. > :02:18.can get three years, it is worth it for the risk.
:02:19. > :02:21.I hope she has learned her lesson and she makes
:02:22. > :02:28.up to her parents for all the distress she has caused them.
:02:29. > :02:30.In 1993, Sandra Gregory from Aberdeenshire was in the headlines
:02:31. > :02:35.for trying to smuggle heroin out of Bangkok.
:02:36. > :02:37.She served sentences in Thailand and Britain and using that
:02:38. > :02:40.experience, she visits schools to educate young women and says
:02:41. > :02:44.that Melissa Reid needs to come to terms with what she did and move on.
:02:45. > :02:49.My only advice to her would be to be honest.
:02:50. > :02:52.Apologise to the people you need to apologise to and maybe use
:02:53. > :02:55.it for other people, I am getting the truth to be
:02:56. > :02:57.going around schools so perhaps Melissa can do that
:02:58. > :03:04.Whatever Melissa Reid decides to do in Scotland, because her crime
:03:05. > :03:11.was committed abroad, she will have no official criminal record.
