:00:00. > :00:00.It will be 11pm in Scotland. On BBC One it is time

:00:07. > :00:09.The First Minister has told BBC Scotland that she's in talks

:00:10. > :00:13.with Gibraltar to find common ground in their efforts to maintain links

:00:14. > :00:17.The initiative came from Gibraltar's Chief Minister

:00:18. > :00:21.after both Scotland and Gibraltar voted to remain in the EU while

:00:22. > :00:27.Nicola Sturgeon said she would pursue all avenues

:00:28. > :00:34.Here's our political editor, Brian Taylor.

:00:35. > :00:37.This afternoon, Nicola Sturgeon held talks with the Irish president,

:00:38. > :00:40.but she's prepared to look even further afield in search

:00:41. > :00:47.She has agreed to talks with Gibraltar's Chief Minister.

:00:48. > :00:50.Gibraltar voted overwhelmingly to stay in the EU.

:00:51. > :00:55.For Gibraltar, for Northern Ireland, for London and for Scotland,

:00:56. > :00:58.this idea that we can be ripped out of the European Union against our

:00:59. > :01:00.will, with all the damaging consequences that will flow

:01:01. > :01:11.So I will forge alliances where possible.

:01:12. > :01:19.It is down to Holyrood to implement EU laws here, so MSPs might be

:01:20. > :01:24.But it is Westminster that has the final say on

:01:25. > :01:31.Could doing a reverse Greenland be on the table?

:01:32. > :01:35.The Arctic territory is part of Denmark, but opted out of the EU

:01:36. > :01:42.Could Scotland opt in after the UK leaves?

:01:43. > :01:44.Greenland is a remote territory of Denmark.

:01:45. > :01:46.Scotland and the UK are much more closely linked.

:01:47. > :01:50.So what would that leave on the table?

:01:51. > :02:05.In this expert in the law says Brussels might talk to Scotland,

:02:06. > :02:06.that issues like trade and free movement are ultimately our route to

:02:07. > :02:07.Scottish independence. Any continuing arrangements relating

:02:08. > :02:10.specifically to Scotland will be part of a broader process

:02:11. > :02:12.of an emergent independent Scotland in the EU,

:02:13. > :02:16.which will require a new referendum I don't think Scotland could enjoy

:02:17. > :02:25.semi-EU membership while in the UK. MSPs will be asked tomorrow to back

:02:26. > :02:28.the Scottish Government's attempt to maintain relations

:02:29. > :02:31.with the European Union. The motion makes no

:02:32. > :02:39.mention of independence. As ministers seek the widest

:02:40. > :02:42.possible support. Tories say a second independence

:02:43. > :02:45.referendum should be off the table. We were asked that question

:02:46. > :02:48.about whether we should stay part We voted on it, and that

:02:49. > :02:51.should be respected. People are seeing the instability

:02:52. > :02:53.that the vote has caused We don't need further division

:02:54. > :02:58.and instability on top of that. Seeking to reassure markets,

:02:59. > :03:03.the Chancellor has ruled out Boris Johnson says that signals the

:03:04. > :03:16.end of Project Fear. Nicola Sturgeon says it is a pity

:03:17. > :03:18.that Project Fear has been Meanwhile at Westminster,

:03:19. > :03:21.addressing the Commons for the first time since the vote,

:03:22. > :03:24.David Cameron said the UK's exit from Europe would be the most

:03:25. > :03:27.complex and important to be undertaken by the civil

:03:28. > :03:28.service in decades. Here's our political

:03:29. > :03:38.correspondent, Nick Eardley. Today was the first chance for MPs

:03:39. > :03:44.to meet in parliament and discuss the implications of last Thursday's

:03:45. > :03:48.vote. The Prime Minister wanted to give a message of stability. But he

:03:49. > :03:51.also want to talk of healing some of the winds of the referendum,

:03:52. > :03:55.bringing the country back together again. But perhaps an early

:03:56. > :04:01.indication of just how difficult that could be. The SNP's Angus

:04:02. > :04:06.Robertson saying the result and Scotland was clear, that he wouldn't

:04:07. > :04:09.allow Scotland to be dragged out of the EU against its will. He said

:04:10. > :04:16.that that required an independence referendum to happen, so be it. And

:04:17. > :04:20.other divisions night in the Labour Party. Jeremy Corbyn has faced open

:04:21. > :04:27.revolt today. And perhaps just a sign of how many Rob and he bases in

:04:28. > :04:30.that he's not managed to replace Ian Murray, the shadow Scottish

:04:31. > :04:36.Secretary, who resigned yesterday. The latest reshuffle has come out,

:04:37. > :04:39.and so far there isn't a new shadow Scottish Secretary. We'll find out

:04:40. > :04:41.more whether he can fill that position and more about Jeremy

:04:42. > :04:43.Corbyn's future tomorrow. The operators of the M's theme

:04:44. > :04:45.park say a roller-coaster which derailed yesterday had

:04:46. > :04:47.passed its annual safety Ten people, most of them children,

:04:48. > :04:51.were injured when a carriage of the Tsunami ride plunged 20 feet

:04:52. > :04:53.after it became detached The director of the theme park,

:04:54. > :04:58.which is near Motherwell, said he'd never seen an incident like it in 50

:04:59. > :05:01.years in the business, and was heartbroken that

:05:02. > :05:03.people had been injured. Panic and confusion,

:05:04. > :05:10.as an afternoon at a theme park which should have been fun turned

:05:11. > :05:14.very quickly to fear. Carriages from a roller-coaster fell

:05:15. > :05:18.20 feet onto an area below, part of it on to ride

:05:19. > :05:21.for very young children. One dad who was queueing

:05:22. > :05:24.for the roller-coasters thinks something went wrong

:05:25. > :05:29.on the ride before it crashed. It came to a very, very quick

:05:30. > :05:32.halt, as if the brakes I saw the frame of the

:05:33. > :05:40.roller-coaster shudder and shake. Firefighters worked alongside police

:05:41. > :05:46.and paramedics to free the nine passengers from the crashed

:05:47. > :05:50.carriages, mostly children. They say they arrive

:05:51. > :05:53.to see chaotic scenes. The front carriage was in

:05:54. > :06:04.an upside-down position, twisting to carriages

:06:05. > :06:06.the right way up. The ones in the rear

:06:07. > :06:08.were upside down. So you were dealing with a lot

:06:09. > :06:10.of child casualties, so that must have brought an extra

:06:11. > :06:13.dimensional to the rescue? There was a lot of distress,

:06:14. > :06:15.from the casualties It's something I don't think

:06:16. > :06:22.you can actually train for, for dealing with the distress

:06:23. > :06:39.that the children were He has chest, abdomen and leg

:06:40. > :06:45.injuries. Another new boy is also still serious, but his grandad was

:06:46. > :06:51.glad to post an update today and social media, saying Dr's efforts to

:06:52. > :06:56.save his arm and hand had succeeded. This couple were also hurt on the

:06:57. > :07:00.right. Katie has been discharged, but William is still being treated

:07:01. > :07:07.for any injury after flying out of his seat. That this is by far the

:07:08. > :07:09.worst incidents, There have been a number

:07:10. > :07:12.of occasions at M's over the years where firefighters have been called

:07:13. > :07:14.to free people from roller-coasters that have got stuck,

:07:15. > :07:16.including the Tsunami ride involved But M's insists that the Tsunami

:07:17. > :07:19.had recently passed We have never had an incident

:07:20. > :07:23.like this before in 50 years. We are heartbroken that people have

:07:24. > :07:27.come to Alma Park and been injured The Health and Safety Executive has

:07:28. > :07:33.mechanical and engineering experts on site to examine the wreckage

:07:34. > :07:36.and see if they can find out why They are looking at the structure

:07:37. > :07:43.of the roller-coasters. With the news emerging that one

:07:44. > :07:47.passenger was thrown from the ride, passenger restraints

:07:48. > :07:50.will have to be looked at, as well as the overall

:07:51. > :07:55.mechanics of the ride. Tonight, there are a total of seven

:07:56. > :08:00.children, aged between 11 and 16, being treated in hospital

:08:01. > :08:07.following yesterday's crash. A report into the operation

:08:08. > :08:10.of crematoria in Scotland has found what it describes as unethical

:08:11. > :08:13.and abhorrent practices in Aberdeen The report - by the former

:08:14. > :08:19.Lord Advocate Dame Elish Angiolini - found babies were cremated

:08:20. > :08:23.alongside unrelated adults. The inquiry was prompted by a BBC

:08:24. > :08:26.Scotland investigation It is where people come to grieve

:08:27. > :08:34.and find comfort, but for 15 years, the practices here only

:08:35. > :08:39.made things worse. Until 2010, the bodies of babies

:08:40. > :08:42.would be placed in these burners All the ashes would go

:08:43. > :08:48.to the adults' relatives. Parents of the infant were told

:08:49. > :08:53.there was nothing to hand over. Nicola's son Liam was born

:08:54. > :08:57.prematurely in 2002, She feels betrayed by the people

:08:58. > :09:04.who were meant to help her. I don't think they understand how

:09:05. > :09:24.much they have hurt people. I mean, we don't even have anything

:09:25. > :09:25.left... Even if we find that the remains and it was scattered, we

:09:26. > :09:29.would know where to go, but nothing. In two previous enquiries,

:09:30. > :09:32.staff misled investigators It was an anonymous whistle-blower

:09:33. > :09:34.who revealed the truth. Today, the Chief Executive

:09:35. > :09:40.of Aberdeen City Council offered The loss of a baby is devastating

:09:41. > :09:44.for parents and families, and we are deeply sorry

:09:45. > :09:47.for the distress our past You talk about transparency,

:09:48. > :10:00.but you are walking off as soon Instead, it was left to a string

:10:01. > :10:05.of deputies to provide answers. Part and parcel of the initial

:10:06. > :10:08.thing, staff were asked to come forward with anything that concerned

:10:09. > :10:10.them about procedures, so we could examine them to see

:10:11. > :10:12.if there was anything The bit about babies in with adults

:10:13. > :10:21.was not brought forward. Hazlehead is one of 14 crematoria

:10:22. > :10:26.across Scotland cited in the report, but it is the one by far

:10:27. > :10:29.the most heavily criticised. The Scottish Government says it

:10:30. > :10:32.will follow all the recommendations laid out, including the legislation

:10:33. > :10:36.to make what happened Kevin Keane, Reporting Scotland,

:10:37. > :10:47.Aberdeen. The Scottish breast screening

:10:48. > :10:50.programme is to be reviewed after it emerged invitations to thousands

:10:51. > :10:52.of women were delayed. The problem first came to light

:10:53. > :10:55.when a woman contacted a breast screening centre in August 2015

:10:56. > :10:58.to report that she had not been called for an appointment

:10:59. > :11:00.for more than three years. She was among about 3,800 women

:11:01. > :11:02.affected. The Scottish Government

:11:03. > :11:04.has asked Healthcare Improvement

:11:05. > :11:14.Scotland to investigate. And though the weather with

:11:15. > :11:17.Christopher. Thank you. Really unsettled over the next week or so,

:11:18. > :11:22.Christopher. Thank you. Really you can see why, low pressure up to

:11:23. > :11:30.the northwest. All spinning around, rain, showers, some sunshine, a bit

:11:31. > :11:34.breezy and it will feel cool. That's the next seven days. Today we have

:11:35. > :11:39.sunshine and showers. A lovely picture from one of our Weather

:11:40. > :11:43.Watchers in Inverness. Tonight there could be showers confined to the

:11:44. > :11:51.north and Western Isles. Recently dry with sunny spells, 10 degrees in

:11:52. > :11:56.cities. First thing tomorrow and the Central Belt some sunshine around. A

:11:57. > :12:00.decent start to Tuesday. Towards Argyll, through the Highlands and

:12:01. > :12:06.Islands, a of showers. Similar towards per-share and Aberdeenshire.

:12:07. > :12:13.Fife and Angus, it generally dry with sunshine. The showers friendly

:12:14. > :12:23.frequent, dry start the day for Orkney and Shetland. That showers

:12:24. > :12:28.are with us, and look at this area of rain edging into words the south.

:12:29. > :12:32.That is connected to this area of low pressure pushing through the

:12:33. > :12:37.Irish CE, pushing towards northern England and Wales. Perhaps just East

:12:38. > :12:46.Anglia and Kent Stein drive. Temperatures around 20 Celsius here.

:12:47. > :12:50.Elsewhere rather soggy, mid-teens. Parts of Scotland may be 17 degrees,

:12:51. > :12:55.but a wet afternoon. A lot of drive towards the west later on, fewer

:12:56. > :13:03.heavy showers. Into Wednesday, wet weather pushing in, how far north it

:13:04. > :13:09.comes is open to doubt. It could well push into the Southern uplands,

:13:10. > :13:13.maybe the Central Belt. But for many and Scotland come Wednesday, another

:13:14. > :13:19.dry day and breezy. Then Thursday onwards, staying unsettled, rain

:13:20. > :13:22.showers at times. Some bright spells in between, but breezy and feeling

:13:23. > :13:24.cool. That's the forecast for now. Our next update is during Breakfast

:13:25. > :13:27.at 6:25 tomorrow morning. But from everyone on the late

:13:28. > :13:29.team here in Glasgow and around the country,

:13:30. > :13:32.goodnight
