:00:00. > :00:11.The fallout from the EU referendum has continued to dominate

:00:12. > :00:13.Scottish politics today, with the parties arguing

:00:14. > :00:15.about whether or not the result should lead to a second vote

:00:16. > :00:32.The First Minister has been talking to the European Commission about how

:00:33. > :00:37.Scotland can remain in Europe even though the rest of the UK has voted

:00:38. > :00:40.to leave. Today, Nicola Sturgeon's predecessor said she was right.

:00:41. > :00:44.There has been a seismic movement of predecessor said she was right.

:00:45. > :00:48.opinion in Scotland that says that one way or another Scotland's

:00:49. > :00:52.position in Europe must be consolidated and guaranteed, and

:00:53. > :00:56.Nicola Sturgeon is carrying not just the SNP opinion behind her, but a

:00:57. > :01:00.broad spread of political opinion in Scotland. This is way beyond

:01:01. > :01:06.political ploys, this is about national leadership, which Nicola

:01:07. > :01:09.Sturgeon is providing. The leader of the Conservatives in Scotland said

:01:10. > :01:11.talk of another independence referendum was premature until we

:01:12. > :01:16.know what is on offer, but Westminster should not try to block

:01:17. > :01:19.another vote. I have never said it should be denied, and I did not say

:01:20. > :01:23.last I'm either. What I'm saying about being premature... It should

:01:24. > :01:31.not be denied by the British government? Absolutely not. This is

:01:32. > :01:33.important. What is premature is the First Minister within three and a

:01:34. > :01:37.half hours of the votes being counted standing up in Bute house

:01:38. > :01:41.and saying she was asking government officials to drop the necessary

:01:42. > :01:44.legislation for an independence from referendum. We do not know what we

:01:45. > :01:49.would be voting on. If former First Minister revealed today he could now

:01:50. > :01:54.vote on independence. He said the EU referendum was a tipping point. But.

:01:55. > :02:00.We're not ready for independence, even if that was a reality. We have

:02:01. > :02:03.nation-building to do, issues about currency in the fiscal deficit. And

:02:04. > :02:07.what deficit has shown us is that when you have a minority voting for

:02:08. > :02:11.one thing, you divide the nation, you create service. And the last

:02:12. > :02:14.thing we want is to look forward to a legacy of bitterness and division

:02:15. > :02:19.in Scotland. Scottish Labour distance itself from Mr McLeish and

:02:20. > :02:23.said independence would risk Scottish jobs and our economy.

:02:24. > :02:25.The First Minister is calling on the UK government to give

:02:26. > :02:28.an immediate guarantee on the status of European Union citizens living

:02:29. > :02:33.in Scotland in the wake of the Brexit vote.

:02:34. > :02:36.Nicola Sturgeon's demand comes in a letter to the Prime Minister,

:02:37. > :02:38.and the five candidates for his post.

:02:39. > :02:39.Mr Cameron's already moved to reassure European

:02:40. > :02:42.citizens living in the UK that there won't be

:02:43. > :02:44.But Nicola Sturgeon says a stronger assertion

:02:45. > :02:52.The SNP Westminster leader and MP for Moray, Angus Robertson,

:02:53. > :02:55.has confirmed he is standing for the party's deputy leadership.

:02:56. > :02:58.Current deputy Stewart Hosie is stepping down.

:02:59. > :03:01.Mr Robertson said he was running for the job because he wanted to

:03:02. > :03:08.We're hosting a special debate, What Now For Scotland?

:03:09. > :03:10.about the EU vote and the implications for Scotland

:03:11. > :03:18.tomorrow night at 7 o'clock right here on BBC1.

:03:19. > :03:21.Police have released images of 13 men they want to trace in connection

:03:22. > :03:23.with the investigation into the violence and disorder which

:03:24. > :03:28.Fans invaded the pitch at Hampden after Hibs beat Rangers.

:03:29. > :03:31.Officers have already made 38 arrests in connection

:03:32. > :03:37.RMT union members of ScotRail staff are on strike again,

:03:38. > :03:39.after talks to resolve a row over driver-only trains

:03:40. > :03:45.ScotRail is running replacement buses and says the majority

:03:46. > :03:49.At Wimbledon, Jamie Murray is in action in the doubles,

:03:50. > :03:52.with his Brazilian Partner Bruno Soares.

:03:53. > :03:54.They won the first set of the second round match

:03:55. > :04:04.A few minutes ago, they were 4-3 up in the 2nd set.

:04:05. > :04:06.Andy Murray meanwhile has been practising for his next

:04:07. > :04:09.He'll play the Australian Nick Kyrgios in the tournament's

:04:10. > :04:13.The Australian beat Feliciano Lopez today, and reckons he can record

:04:14. > :04:18.a victory over Murray, against the odds.

:04:19. > :04:23.Yes, I think I definitely have the tools to do it. But saying that, he

:04:24. > :04:28.is one of the best players in the world and is probably the favourite

:04:29. > :04:33.since Novak was out. I will go out there and not do anything different.

:04:34. > :04:34.We great mates, and he is a great guy, great player, and I'm really

:04:35. > :04:35.looking forward to it. Now, the weather outlook for this

:04:36. > :04:46.evening, and the start of the week. We have had yet another day of rate

:04:47. > :04:51.and sunny spells and showers, some which were heavy. This evening most

:04:52. > :04:55.of the showers will fade and will see further break or sunny spells.

:04:56. > :04:59.The showers are likely to continue this evening and tonight in the

:05:00. > :05:03.North West. Otherwise it is a clean dry with some clear spells. For some

:05:04. > :05:10.sheltered rural areas temperatures made it to 5-6dC. For the most part

:05:11. > :05:15.pulling up around 8-10 Celsius with light winds. Some dry and bright

:05:16. > :05:21.weather to start the day, but through the day there will be a

:05:22. > :05:25.north- south split. For Southern and Central Scotland cloud will increase

:05:26. > :05:29.and we will see outbreaks of persistent and at times heavy rain

:05:30. > :05:32.on a strengthening southerly breeze. Across the North, bright and sunny

:05:33. > :05:35.spells and a scattering of heavy Across the North, bright and sunny

:05:36. > :05:44.showers. Temperatures peaking around 16-17 full stop under the cloud and

:05:45. > :05:47.rain it will be 13-15. Into Tuesday we will see a scattering of showers

:05:48. > :05:49.across northern and eastern areas, but they will be fewer into the

:05:50. > :05:50.afternoon. And that's all from

:05:51. > :05:52.Reporting Scotland right now. Our next update's at 10.35 -

:05:53. > :05:59.just after the ten o'clock news. Until then, from everyone
