:00:14. > :00:15.to have a different relationship with the EU.

:00:27. > :00:33.Our political correspondent Andrew Kerr reports.
:00:34. > :00:36.In her new role, it seems Theresa May doesn't want any

:00:41. > :00:44.Both women pledged to cooperate on security
:00:45. > :01:00.Inside, another fireside chat on a rainy day.
:01:01. > :01:02.Another pledge, as the First Minister seeks to protect Scotland's

:01:09. > :01:10.out of our negotiations for a United Kingdom leaving the EU.
:01:11. > :01:12.But I am willing to listen to options.
:01:13. > :01:15.I have been clear with the First Minister today that I want
:01:16. > :01:17.the Scottish Government to be fully engaged in our discussions,
:01:18. > :01:21.I will listen to any options they put forward.
:01:22. > :01:23.As curious bystanders watched, the Prime Minister did note
:01:24. > :01:35.the people already had their say on an independence referendum
:01:36. > :01:38.but the First Minister has been quite clear throughout this debate.
:01:39. > :01:41.The question of independence is part and parcel of all of this debate
:01:42. > :01:44.just now, it has to be, because of the situation Scotland
:01:45. > :01:46.finds itself in, through no fault of our own.
:01:47. > :01:48.But I wanted to be clear with the Prime Minister,
:01:49. > :01:50.as I have been clear with the Scottish people,
:01:51. > :01:53.that my job as First Minister is to examine all options
:01:54. > :02:00.and that is the approach I continue to take.
:02:01. > :02:07.Two powerful characters, attempting to provide strong leadership. That
:02:08. > :02:11.is where the similarity ends. One is committed to preserving the union,
:02:12. > :02:15.the other is fighting for independence. And now their views on
:02:16. > :02:21.Brexit completely differ. A short meeting but a significant one.
:02:22. > :02:27.Theresa May had been determined to visit Scotland as soon as possible.
:02:28. > :02:35.She may want to listen, but is she trying to tie other parties into the
:02:36. > :02:41.Brexit negotiations, to -- so they can't disagree afterwards. Is this a
:02:42. > :02:45.trick to trap the SNP into the negotiations? Know, is an attempt to
:02:46. > :02:48.involve everyone in the negotiations, as it should be. I
:02:49. > :02:54.think it is important that the new Prime Minister came to make that
:02:55. > :02:59.offer, to say what that -- to say we want you on board. I think it is
:03:00. > :03:04.significant that that is what she did. Prime ministers may depend on
:03:05. > :03:07.clever political tactics to survive just as they depend on their high
:03:08. > :03:16.security bubble in this most rarefied of jobs. Mrs May saw the
:03:17. > :03:19.predecessor's career topple by a referendum -- through a referendum.
:03:20. > :03:20.She will try not to make the same mistake.

:03:23. > :03:28.Our Westminster correspondent Nick Eardley was there -
:03:29. > :03:41.It is strange to think that on Monday, the Prime Minister was
:03:42. > :03:46.relaxed in the building behind me, thinking he had a couple of months.
:03:47. > :03:50.But it has been a fast moving few days and Scotland high on the

:03:55. > :03:58.Minister, around a metre away from where I am now. She mentioned as a
:03:59. > :04:05.first policy, the union between Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales
:04:06. > :04:10.and England. She said her precious it was to her and her party. And the
:04:11. > :04:17.symbolism of her first trip being north of the border to Nicholl
:04:18. > :04:21.surgeon. It is not whether the two women will find a deal that
:04:22. > :04:26.satisfies the Scottish Government's games and the keen Brexiteers who
:04:27. > :04:31.are in Mrs May's new cabinet. But a sense tonight that after those talks
:04:32. > :04:32.there is a desire to listen and to speak more in the future and try to
:04:33. > :04:35.find a solution. Around Scotland people have been
:04:36. > :04:38.paying their respects to those who were killed and injured
:04:39. > :04:40.in the attack in Nice last night. Flags have been flying at half mast

:05:27. > :05:30.Scotland's capital is twinned with Nice and much sympathy here for the
:05:31. > :05:34.horror. A book of condolence has been started as people come to terms
:05:35. > :05:38.with another act of terrorism on French soil. We have seen in the
:05:39. > :05:45.last year with the attacks in January and November, that our
:05:46. > :05:51.society is resilient and its resilience is building up. So I
:05:52. > :05:55.think we are very deeply affected, collectively, but at the same time
:05:56. > :06:03.we are proud that we are able to hold our values and our national

:07:45. > :07:46.Well, it's over to Kawser now with the weather outlook
:07:47. > :08:04.A poor day for the open and for many of us outbreaks of rain. But to end
:08:05. > :08:09.the evening, some right spells. As we head through the night, it will
