:00:16. > :00:18.14-year-old Caroline Glachan was found dead on the banks

:00:19. > :00:20.of the River Leven in Dunbartonshire in August 1996, about a mile

:00:21. > :00:26.Despite numerous appeals, no-one has been arrested over her death.

:00:27. > :00:30.Here is our Home Affairs Correspondent, Reevel Alderson.

:00:31. > :00:32.No-one has ever been arrested over the murder of 14-year-old

:00:33. > :00:34.Caroline Glachan 20 years ago this weekend, but 300

:00:35. > :00:39.items gathered by police at the time of her death are now

:00:40. > :00:41.being re-examined by forensic scientists, in a

:00:42. > :00:49.cold case, giving her mother renewed hope after years of turmoil.

:00:50. > :00:57.I am more upbeat about it than I have been for a long time,

:00:58. > :01:02.That has given me real hope that there could be a light

:01:03. > :01:07.CCTV footage just hours before she died

:01:08. > :01:12.shows Caroline with her best friend, Joanne Menzies.

:01:13. > :01:14.They parted sometime later, when Caroline went to her

:01:15. > :01:18.boyfriend's house and it is still preying on Joanne's mind.

:01:19. > :01:21.I still hold a lot of guilt, because I feel I

:01:22. > :01:27.I feels like I could have stopped it,

:01:28. > :01:45.We do not trust a lot of people in this community.

:01:46. > :01:48.Police say they want to trace a man with pointed features,

:01:49. > :01:50.seen close to the tow path where she died.

:01:51. > :01:52.And officers are still keen to speak to him.

:01:53. > :01:54.Forensic scientists are working with state-of-the-art DNA

:01:55. > :01:56.technology, to gain vital information that could not have been

:01:57. > :01:59.Detectives believe the information about Caroline's killer

:02:00. > :02:02.remains in the local community, but hope forensic evidence will help

:02:03. > :02:06.There have been a lot of assumptions made, that Caroline

:02:07. > :02:09.was involved in one thing or the other - exposed to drugs,

:02:10. > :02:13.alcohol, boyfriends, girlfriends,etc, but,

:02:14. > :02:14.alcohol, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc, but,

:02:15. > :02:17.ultimately, she had no drugs in her system and no alcohol.

:02:18. > :02:19.She was a bright, 14-year-old schoolgirl, who was walking on that

:02:20. > :02:37.Caroline was described as a fun-loving teenager

:02:38. > :02:41.The mystery of her murder will feature on the BBC's

:02:42. > :02:51.in the case of murdered toddler Liam Fee, was

:02:52. > :02:57.Lesley Bate faces multiple charges from her time

:02:58. > :03:02.as a social worker in Fife. Andrew Anderson reports.

:03:03. > :03:10.Lesley Bate faces charges involving 16 children

:03:11. > :03:13.from December 2011 to August 2014, when it is alleged she failed

:03:14. > :03:15.to take the necessary steps to minimise actual or

:03:16. > :03:18.It is understood that one child is Liam Fee, the two-year-old

:03:19. > :03:22.who was murdered by his mother and partner in March, 2014.

:03:23. > :03:24.It is alleged that Lesley Bate failed to follow up a referral more

:03:25. > :03:27.than a year earlier about bruising to Liam's face and concerns

:03:28. > :03:37.Rachel and Naomi Fee's trial heard that Liam had scratches

:03:38. > :03:40.A woman who used the same childminder told social

:03:41. > :03:49.services that she was concerned about Liam.

:03:50. > :03:53.The hearing, held here in Dundee, was told that Lesley Bate was under

:03:54. > :03:55.a disciplinary investigation and was off sick following Liam Fee's death.

:03:56. > :04:01.She was later transferred to another team.

:04:02. > :04:04.Her manager, James Ross, told the hearing that she was erratic,

:04:05. > :04:07.disorganised and chaotic. Lesley Bate is not

:04:08. > :04:10.attending the hearing, which is due to run until Friday.

:04:11. > :04:12.The hearing was told she had relinquished her registration

:04:13. > :04:14.as a social worker, but did not admit any

:04:15. > :04:22.The under-pressure co-leader of Aberdeenshire Council has resigned.

:04:23. > :04:24.Councillor Martin Kitts Hayes had been criticised for walking out

:04:25. > :04:26.of a conference at Legoland in Denmark, because he was unhappy

:04:27. > :04:31.The abortive trip cost nearly ?3,500.

:04:32. > :04:33.Councillor Kitts Hayes also faced allegations of a cover-up,

:04:34. > :04:35.after telling his personal assistant not to tell anyone

:04:36. > :04:45.Two American airline pilots have been released on bail and charged

:04:46. > :04:47.with being under the influence of alcohol as they prepared

:04:48. > :04:53.to fly a passenger jet from Glasgow to New York.

:04:56. > :04:57.following the alleged incident at Glasgow Airport on Saturday.
