:00:00. > :00:07.Here on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:08. > :00:09.The Scottish Government throws its weight behind

:00:10. > :00:28.It described the third runway at Heathrow as the best for Scotland.

:00:29. > :00:34.It is expected decision by the UK Government will be made this month.

:00:35. > :00:38.They may be over 400 miles away, but the future of Heathrow and Gatwick

:00:39. > :00:41.Airport does matter to the Scottish economy. Today, the Scottish

:00:42. > :00:46.Government said they would back Heathrow, as they secured a deal to

:00:47. > :00:50.secure jobs and growth here. Increased flights, more regular,

:00:51. > :00:54.easier to get to London. He is London and the rest of the world to

:00:55. > :00:59.get us. Of course, we want additional direct flights Scotland,

:01:00. > :01:03.but people are interested in connectivity. The Scottish

:01:04. > :01:10.Government and Heathrow have signed a memorandum of understanding. This

:01:11. > :01:18.includes... But over several decades. And ?200 million of

:01:19. > :01:21.construction related work. Prestwick airport is helping to increase its

:01:22. > :01:25.role as a cargo hub. That means shipping components and machines

:01:26. > :01:30.made by Scottish companies down to London. Aberdeen and Inverness also

:01:31. > :01:34.want better access to Heathrow for worldwide flights. We're hoping to

:01:35. > :01:38.have access ability for the regions, regions like ours will be competing

:01:39. > :01:42.for additional slots at a reduced rate, which is what Heathrow have

:01:43. > :01:45.undertaken to do. For us today, we have a single flight to and from

:01:46. > :01:50.Heathrow. I'm hopeful that providing Heathrow gets the go-ahead, we could

:01:51. > :01:55.be up to perhaps two flight stray within as many years. But everyone

:01:56. > :02:00.is happy. Rival Gatwick and its sister business say the deal will

:02:01. > :02:04.make passengers more reliant on London. It has been put off long

:02:05. > :02:08.enough. Whatever the decision is, whether Heathrow or Gatwick, we need

:02:09. > :02:12.to make sure that Scotland has the connectivity and flights and

:02:13. > :02:17.services into those airports to allow our residents to benefit from

:02:18. > :02:21.the investment and expansion. Other campaigners are sceptical about the

:02:22. > :02:24.boost to business. And fear the cost to the environment. I think there is

:02:25. > :02:28.a great overestimate of the number of jobs and economic benefit of

:02:29. > :02:32.airport expansion, and completely ignoring the climate change impacts.

:02:33. > :02:36.The Scottish Government have decided what they think is the best plan for

:02:37. > :02:48.this country. A decision is expected in around ten days.

:02:49. > :02:55.The time for Brexit is unclear, but the city of Glasgow has commissioned

:02:56. > :03:03.a report highlighting the challenges and opportunities of Brexit. It also

:03:04. > :03:09.has a wish list for politicians. The UK as a whole has decided to get out

:03:10. > :03:15.of the European Union. That was the result. Do we know yet what it

:03:16. > :03:18.means? This morning, Glasgow's City Council published a report on the

:03:19. > :03:22.challenges and opportunities facing the city after Brexit. The most

:03:23. > :03:29.important success is the potential loss of EU funds, totalling ?780

:03:30. > :03:36.million, which pay for training, development and social funds. They

:03:37. > :03:41.want a guaranteed by Westminster and Holyrood, but is that likely at a

:03:42. > :03:45.time of political uncertainty? Let us not nasal gave about

:03:46. > :03:48.constitutional arrangements. We need practical, pragmatic proposals to

:03:49. > :03:53.give confidence back to the business community. Bringing investment

:03:54. > :03:57.forward early, finding ways we can make sure that European structural

:03:58. > :04:03.funds are still kept in the Glasgow economy. The report's also calls on

:04:04. > :04:07.the ?1 billion city deal to be exonerated. Fast forwarding the

:04:08. > :04:11.proposed rail link to Glasgow airport. Glasgow's strengths include

:04:12. > :04:17.its retail sector, second only to London's West End. But there is fear

:04:18. > :04:21.that any future trade tariffs will make imports more expensive.

:04:22. > :04:25.Although a weaker pound could bring more tourist shoppers. Business

:04:26. > :04:28.leaders fear that their concerns are not being taken seriously. At the

:04:29. > :04:33.very best, we have to continue to make the arguments. We feel at the

:04:34. > :04:36.moment as if the government has taken a slightly anti-business

:04:37. > :04:40.perspective at Westminster. That is incredibly dangerous position to be

:04:41. > :04:49.in. And it is not just the tourist trade that may go elsewhere.

:04:50. > :04:52.Academic leaders are also worried. They say 15,000 foreign students are

:04:53. > :04:56.in the city, more than 6000 of those are from the EU as well as more than

:04:57. > :05:00.1000 staff. And ?25 million worth of grants from the EU go to Strathclyde

:05:01. > :05:04.University alone. Cancel and business people know that they will

:05:05. > :05:08.have to work hard to protect Glasgow during Brexit. They also know that

:05:09. > :05:17.other cities across the UK are clamouring just as loudly.

:05:18. > :05:25.Police searching for a 15-year-old girl on the banks of say a baby has

:05:26. > :05:35.been found. She was last seen at power. Police say -- body has been

:05:36. > :05:42.found. Leaked documents say Royal Bank of Scotland try profit from

:05:43. > :05:49.ailing businesses. They say the bank profited from ailing businesses.

:05:50. > :05:55.Staff could then gain cash from squeezing the firms in what was

:05:56. > :05:59.called a dash for cash. It has been denied that they

:06:00. > :06:08.How important is your mental health compared to your physical health?

:06:09. > :06:12.If you think it's just as important but you don't take the time to look

:06:13. > :06:16.A survey to mark World Mental Health day suggests a significant

:06:17. > :06:18.number of us don't look after our psychological well-being.

:06:19. > :06:20.So, addressing that is the message of a Scotland-wider arts

:06:21. > :06:23.Our arts correspondent Pauline McLean reports.

:06:24. > :06:27.Experts in a short trousers is a piece of theatre for five rods and

:06:28. > :06:33.their families. These aliens have piece of theatre for five rods and

:06:34. > :06:37.been crash landing into spaces across Scotland -- for

:06:38. > :06:41.five-year-olds. Yeah it is lovely to come from such a young age. It is

:06:42. > :06:45.about finding spaces to realise that people are different. And busy we

:06:46. > :06:52.are aliens, so very different. But also space to recognise what people

:06:53. > :06:56.are strong at. What began ten years ago is a small film Showcase has

:06:57. > :07:04.since become a major festival. Alongside films are theatre,

:07:05. > :07:09.exhibition and theatre. And shows all across the country. Among them a

:07:10. > :07:15.new touring the show by the original lead singer of Pink Floyd in the

:07:16. > :07:18.1960s. The band have set themselves that back then, there wasn't a great

:07:19. > :07:24.deal known about a lot of these issues. And people are now much more

:07:25. > :07:30.aware and knowledgeable. And in my opinion, have did not get the help

:07:31. > :07:34.and treatment they needed. Today, that has changed, not least thanks

:07:35. > :07:40.to festivals like this where mental health can be discussed openly. It

:07:41. > :07:44.is much more talked about in popular culture. A lot of TV shows deal with

:07:45. > :07:48.mental health very well and sensitively now. We'll bring

:07:49. > :07:51.together organisations and artists and individuals that might not

:07:52. > :07:55.otherwise worked together. It is quite a powerful thing. But there is

:07:56. > :08:00.still some way to go, although the vast majority of Scots consider

:08:01. > :08:06.their mental health as important as physical well-being. The message is

:08:07. > :08:08.finding the time to do anything about it. Find the time, and use it

:08:09. > :08:20.well. A man has died from injuries

:08:21. > :08:23.sustained in a fall on Ben Nevis. The incident happened

:08:24. > :08:25.on the North Face of the mountain on Friday evening when the alarm

:08:26. > :08:28.was raised by the victim's The men were found by

:08:29. > :08:31.the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and airlifted from the scene

:08:32. > :08:33.during the early A former prisoner-of-war

:08:34. > :08:38.who credited the Nagasaki atomic Gordon Highlander Alistair Urquhart

:08:39. > :08:43.said the bomb prevented a Japanese He was blown off his feet

:08:44. > :08:47.by the Nagasaki bomb in 1945. He also survived a ship

:08:48. > :08:49.being torpedoed. Aberdeen-born Mr Urquhart,

:08:50. > :08:51.of Broughty Ferry, passed away Police are investigating

:08:52. > :08:55.whether the death of a 56-year-old man at a flat in North Ayrshire

:08:56. > :08:58.is linked to attacks on two other The man's body was discovered

:08:59. > :09:06.at the flat in Stevenston Police are looking at possible links

:09:07. > :09:10.to the attempted murder of a 52-year-old man,

:09:11. > :09:12.who is being treated A 30-year-old man was treated

:09:13. > :09:15.for a serious injury The Scotland football

:09:16. > :09:19.team are in Slovakia for their third match

:09:20. > :09:20.of the World Cup But Saturday night's draw at home

:09:21. > :09:39.to Lithuania has led His popularity in Slovakia is

:09:40. > :09:41.undiminished, but as he and his squad arrive this afternoon, perhaps

:09:42. > :09:46.the first time can't be said about squad arrive this afternoon, perhaps

:09:47. > :09:50.his standing with Scotland fans is. The supporters and thousands like

:09:51. > :09:53.them had overwhelmingly backed the manager, despite the failure to

:09:54. > :09:57.reach Euro 2016. It have their attitude began to change in recent

:09:58. > :10:02.weeks? It seemed to turn quite quickly, and I don't know why. We

:10:03. > :10:10.had a couple of friendlies. They were just friendlies against two

:10:11. > :10:17.decent teams. His team selections are questionable. His record at 18

:10:18. > :10:20.competitive games is unspectacular. Eight wins, four draws and six

:10:21. > :10:25.defeats. As he seeks to improve his record or from home, he concedes

:10:26. > :10:32.automatic qualification is a long shot. In the footballing world, that

:10:33. > :10:38.England would win it. It's a crazy gang here in this group they have

:10:39. > :10:42.got. You never know. Second, yes. We will definitely go and get second at

:10:43. > :10:48.least at the end. If we got first then great, but second is our target

:10:49. > :10:52.as we sit here. There will be personnel changes from the team that

:10:53. > :10:59.drew Lithuania, but there are absent from this training session, Fletcher

:11:00. > :11:03.isn't ambient -- is determined to be involved. And desperate to play. I

:11:04. > :11:09.have nothing really to save myself. Club games are important, but

:11:10. > :11:14.representing your country's equally important. Scotland phase is like

:11:15. > :11:18.inside with no points for their opening two games, and an even more

:11:19. > :11:25.desperate need of a victory than these Scotland players. Let us get

:11:26. > :11:28.the weather now. We have had a fine day and evening so far, especially

:11:29. > :11:32.further across the West, where we have some clear spells and lovely

:11:33. > :11:38.sunsets sent in from our weather watchers. This is from Angus. Across

:11:39. > :11:42.the East, more in the way of cloud building and we start to see more in

:11:43. > :11:46.the way of showers keeping in, too. All away from Orkney, the coastline

:11:47. > :11:49.and down to the Borders. One or two is running across to Glasgow as

:11:50. > :11:55.well. The best of clear spells across the North West. Temperatures

:11:56. > :11:59.could close to freezing, maybe some frost and frost and mist and fog.

:12:00. > :12:04.Elsewhere, temperatures could climb up to five or 10 degrees. Tomorrow

:12:05. > :12:08.morning, a cloudy start from many of us with showers still around. There

:12:09. > :12:13.will be some sunny spells, too, across the Galloway coast. One or

:12:14. > :12:19.two showers at around 80 towards the east. Temperatures nine or 10

:12:20. > :12:27.degrees. The best of the sunshine -- at around eight a. Add the rest of

:12:28. > :12:31.the UK, those showers line all the way across the East Coast. Further

:12:32. > :12:35.towards the west, from the south-west, Northern Ireland and

:12:36. > :12:38.western parts of Scotland. Sunshine and temperatures here could climb up

:12:39. > :12:42.to 14 or 15 degrees. Towards the east, cooler as the winds start

:12:43. > :12:46.increase. That area of high pressure still with us across Scandinavia.

:12:47. > :12:51.The wind coming from East draws in more moisture from the North Sea.

:12:52. > :13:01.More in the way of showers. The wins will start to strengthen on

:13:02. > :13:03.Wednesday and Thursday, making it feel fresher. For Wednesday, those

:13:04. > :13:05.showers still with us further towards the East with a few

:13:06. > :13:07.spreading in across parts of the central lowlands. Towards the West,

:13:08. > :13:11.the best of any brighter spells. Temperatures 12 to maybe 14 Celsius.

:13:12. > :13:15.With the strength of that wind, it will feel fresher, especially for

:13:16. > :13:20.coastal areas, up over hills as well. Some chilly nights to come to.

:13:21. > :13:25.You can get the rest of the details on the BBC weather website with the

:13:26. > :13:30.outlook for Friday and the weekend. That is reporting Scotland. We are

:13:31. > :13:37.back tomorrow morning, but goodbye from the

:13:38. > :13:45.6 Music live. Watch all five performances now on BBC iPlayer.
