:00:08. > :00:11.Three men have now been arrested in connection with the attempted

:00:12. > :00:13.murder of two police officers in Glasgow.

:00:14. > :00:16.They're expected to appear in court on Monday.

:00:17. > :00:20.The police officers were struck by a car while they attended

:00:21. > :00:23.a call-out in the north of the city on Sunday night.

:00:24. > :00:30.On Sunday night at around 11:15pm, two officers were called

:00:31. > :00:32.to a disturbance here in Knightswood and then deliberately

:00:33. > :00:43.They were seriously injured after being run over by a blue

:00:44. > :00:45.Nissan, and they were both taken to hospital.

:00:46. > :00:47.The 30-year-old woman officer was so badly hurt

:00:48. > :00:54.And as the officers had lain on the road, hurt,

:00:55. > :00:57.that blue Nissan was driven away, hitting parked cars, including

:00:58. > :01:02.Police have today arrested three men in connection with the attempted

:01:03. > :01:05.murder of the officers, a 28-year-old man this morning

:01:06. > :01:07.and a 24-year-old and 30-year-old man this afternoon.

:01:08. > :01:12.The 30-year-old is David Maclean, who detectives issued

:01:13. > :01:15.a photo of earlier today and were very keen to trace.

:01:16. > :01:17.The woman police officer, although out of intensive care,

:01:18. > :01:29.ScotRail has been fined almost half a million pounds for failing

:01:30. > :01:32.to meet required standards for trains and stations.

:01:33. > :01:36.The inspection results follow criticism of the franchise

:01:37. > :01:39.over delayed, cancelled and over-crowded trains.

:01:40. > :01:47.Here's our Transport Correspondent David Henderson.

:01:48. > :01:57.Well, this is another wrap across the knuckles for ScotRail. They are

:01:58. > :02:02.already under pressure to improve their targets, for things like

:02:03. > :02:07.reducing the number of trains that are late, reducing levels of

:02:08. > :02:11.overcrowding on the trains. But they also assessed on soft performance

:02:12. > :02:16.targets. Inspectors travel on the trains, go to the stations and ask

:02:17. > :02:21.the core questions, like RB train announcements clear enough on what

:02:22. > :02:26.is the service from staff like, are the toilets clean enough? It seems

:02:27. > :02:30.they have failed on a number of those fronts, to put up during July

:02:31. > :02:37.to September, targets were not met in five out of 17 areas of station

:02:38. > :02:41.performance and ScotRail also missed ten out of 17 benchmarks on the

:02:42. > :02:46.train. The end result is they have been hit by an enormous fine, almost

:02:47. > :02:51.half ?1 million, which will be reinvested in the rail network but

:02:52. > :02:54.which will hit ScotRail's profits. Some reaction tonight from the

:02:55. > :02:57.Scottish Government to say that further improvements will be

:02:58. > :03:04.required. They have asked transport Scotland to ask ScotRail to set out

:03:05. > :03:07.in detail how it plans to improve performance. As far as ScotRail is

:03:08. > :03:12.concerned, they say they will never stop striving to deliver they are

:03:13. > :03:17.investing almost half ?1 billion in new trains and refurbished trains

:03:18. > :03:20.and on better Wi-Fi to improve the passenger experience. They will now

:03:21. > :03:24.know it is day-to-day services which have to improve fast.

:03:25. > :03:26.Independence campaigners, holding a vigil outside

:03:27. > :03:28.the Scottish Parliament have lost their appeal against eviction.

:03:29. > :03:30.The Court of Session upheld an earlier ruling

:03:31. > :03:39.Defiant, determined but almost out of options.

:03:40. > :03:42.The pledge from those running the camp was that it

:03:43. > :03:46.would remain until Scotland was declared independent.

:03:47. > :03:49.But today the bell tolled, as judges threw out an appeal over

:03:50. > :03:59.The handful of people at the camp today did not want to be

:04:00. > :04:02.interviewed, but the sense here was one of defiance,

:04:03. > :04:05.and as far as they are concerned, today's judgment has

:04:06. > :04:10.Ever since it first appeared, Holyrood's corporate body have

:04:11. > :04:12.wanted the camp removed, arguing it was unlicensed

:04:13. > :04:17.and a threat to Parliament's neutrality.

:04:18. > :04:25.But when they were ordered to leave, the campers took their case

:04:26. > :04:27.to the Court of Session, claiming their human

:04:28. > :04:30.Seven months of legal argument would follow, social media

:04:31. > :04:34.projecting an often surreal courtroom to the wider world.

:04:35. > :04:37.It is based on the declaration of Arbroath and the act of union.

:04:38. > :04:40.There are spiritual arguments based on the idea that Jesus has returned

:04:41. > :04:43.to Earth and is campaigning for Scottish Independence.

:04:44. > :04:46.But there is a serious issue of human rights

:04:47. > :04:49.at the basis of the case and that was what the

:04:50. > :04:54.Today's ruling gives the authorities the right to apply for a court

:04:55. > :05:02.We will apply for the order and it will probably take several days.

:05:03. > :05:05.As soon as we are in possession of that, we will seek to remove

:05:06. > :05:08.the campers if they have not left voluntarily.

:05:09. > :05:12.Our preference is that they respect the ruling and leave the site.

:05:13. > :05:14.The campers say that fundamentally this has been

:05:15. > :05:18.The Scottish Parliament say they will discuss finding

:05:19. > :05:28.an alternative way to allow that, but only once the camp has gone.

:05:29. > :05:31.The family of a missing French student say they can think of no

:05:32. > :05:33.reason why he may have gone missing in Edinburgh.

:05:34. > :05:38.Police believe that Antoine Maury may have become disorientated,

:05:39. > :05:40.after leaving friends on Monday evening.

:05:41. > :05:44.They've been searching Holyrood Park after what they describe as credible

:05:45. > :05:52.sightings of a topless man spotted there on Monday evening.

:05:53. > :05:59.We spoke to him last time last week on Thursday. He was extremely happy

:06:00. > :06:04.to be here. Every time I spoke to him on the phone he was very happy

:06:05. > :06:08.to be here. He was succeeding in his exams. He was very interested in

:06:09. > :06:09.what he was doing. A plane was diverted and escorted

:06:10. > :06:12.to land under military escort The flight had lost contact

:06:13. > :06:16.with air traffic control, which led to RAF Typhoon

:06:17. > :06:18.jets being scrambled. People along the west

:06:19. > :06:22.coast heard sonic booms as the jets went supersonic,

:06:23. > :06:25.breaking the sound barrier. Police said the Airbus A320

:06:26. > :06:27.was travelling from Toulouse The governing body of youth football

:06:28. > :06:36.in Scotland is urgently reviewing its guidelines on heading

:06:37. > :06:39.the ball following new evidence A Stirling University study

:06:40. > :06:45.suggested repeated heading could impair recall

:06:46. > :06:47.for up to 24 hours. The Scottish Youth Football

:06:48. > :06:50.Association says it would be "inadvisable" for a child to do

:06:51. > :06:53.repetitive header drills but also rejected suggestions that football

:06:54. > :07:03.should be avoided before exams. Rugby and Edinburgh suffered

:07:04. > :07:05.an embarrassing defeat at home against bottom club

:07:06. > :07:10.Zebre, losing 19-14. Better news for Glasgow who went top

:07:11. > :07:14.with a 31-14 win over Treviso. Jonny Gray crashed over

:07:15. > :07:18.for the first try before centre Mark Bennett ran 40 metres to score

:07:19. > :07:24.after good work by Tommy Seymour. Rory Hughes ran a good line to score

:07:25. > :07:28.the third before Alex Dunbar landed the bonus point just

:07:29. > :07:33.before half time. Rory Hughes got his second

:07:34. > :07:36.of the night in the second half but the victory was tarnished

:07:37. > :07:39.when Langilangi Haupeakui was sent off for a second

:07:40. > :07:44.yellow card on his debut. And both sides could soon be open

:07:45. > :07:47.to external investment. The Scottish Rugby Union's member

:07:48. > :07:50.clubs have voted unanimously in favour of a proposal that

:07:51. > :07:53.would allow some or all shares in Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh

:07:54. > :07:56.Rugby to be put on the market. At the moment they are funded

:07:57. > :08:05.entirely by the SRU. It's over to Christopher now

:08:06. > :08:15.with the weather forecast Good evening. Fairly cloudy and

:08:16. > :08:20.largely dry tonight. Quite chilly at the moment across the North East but

:08:21. > :08:23.the cloud will build here and the temperature will recover. While high

:08:24. > :08:28.pressure is nearby and generally in charge we have this weather front

:08:29. > :08:32.straddling across the country. Bringing outbreaks of rain overnight

:08:33. > :08:35.for the West and north-west. That is how we starting tomorrow morning.

:08:36. > :08:39.They cloudy and damp morning in places with some mist around. The

:08:40. > :08:43.rain moving to the hills by the afternoon. Many areas dry but

:08:44. > :08:46.brightness will be limited as we head through towards the afternoon.

:08:47. > :08:51.Worst of it likely across the North East. In the UK as a whole high

:08:52. > :08:58.pressure is in charge, so it is largely dry, little in the way of

:08:59. > :09:03.wind but cloudy. Temperatures on the mild side for this time of year, low

:09:04. > :09:07.to mid teens. A closer look for us, by mid afternoon a fuse box of rain,

:09:08. > :09:15.mainly over the hills but temperature wise -- a few spots of

:09:16. > :09:19.rain. Generally it is dry but fairly cloudy. Towards eastern Scotland

:09:20. > :09:22.through parts of Perthshire in towards Angus and Aberdeenshire,

:09:23. > :09:27.we're likely to see something a bit brighter by the afternoon. Maybe 15

:09:28. > :09:30.Celsius. Further north and north-west quite drizzly across

:09:31. > :09:36.Shetland for most of the day and cloudy and damp in that area.

:09:37. > :09:40.Staying fairly proudly and little change in the evening. They largely

:09:41. > :09:44.settled day on Sunday. They cloudy and damp start a central and

:09:45. > :09:51.southern and eastern Scotland should dry up with a dry but cloudy

:09:52. > :09:55.afternoon in store. Staying wet in areas in the far north-east. Don't

:09:56. > :09:57.forget the clocks go back one hour. That is forecast for now.

:09:58. > :10:01.Our next update is tomorrow evening at 5:50pm.

:10:02. > :10:03.But from everyone on the late team here in Glasgow, have a
