:00:29. > :00:31.and high up on the ramparts of the castle, a fireworks display

:00:32. > :00:40.sure signs that Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations are approaching.

:00:44. > :00:46.There is a huge build-up, with ?42 million being brought

:00:47. > :00:52.It is great for Edinburgh's reputation as the capital

:00:53. > :00:58.of Scotland that we can put on a fantastic event like this.

:00:59. > :01:01.It is an event that has grown into a three-day festival,

:01:02. > :01:04.with tickets for the headline act Paolo Nutini disappearing

:01:05. > :01:08.For those thinking about going to the street party,

:01:09. > :01:13.We encourage people to buy their tickets now and not travel

:01:14. > :01:16.unless they have bought a ticket, because the event will sell out

:01:17. > :01:19.beforehand and we do not want people to turn up disappointed.

:01:20. > :01:25.On New Year's Eve, this place will be filled up with

:01:26. > :01:29.tens of thousands of partygoers, and the recent attacks in Berlin

:01:30. > :01:35.are focusing the minds of those policing the event.

:01:36. > :01:39.I'm confident we have a proportionate and appropriate plan

:01:40. > :01:43.In terms of the overall threat level within the UK,

:01:44. > :01:47.that remains at severe, meaning an attack is highly likely.

:01:48. > :01:54.We ask members of the public to be alert but not alarmed.

:01:55. > :01:57.As the preparations continue, there is the one thing that

:01:58. > :01:59.organisers can't control, and that is the weather.

:02:00. > :02:02.In the past, it has not always been a friend of Edinburgh's Hogmanay,

:02:03. > :02:04.but this year's forecast doesn't contain anything too dramatic.

:02:05. > :02:08.Some rain and windy conditions, so the advice is to wrap up warm.

:02:09. > :02:11.Police also say "robust" plans are in place to ensure public safety

:02:12. > :02:14.for the Hogmanay football match between Rangers and Celtic.

:02:15. > :02:19.About 50,000 people are expected at Ibrox, while the city centre

:02:20. > :02:21.is likely to be crowded with shoppers and

:02:22. > :02:25.My focus is about delivering a safe event,

:02:26. > :02:29.but not only the football match - we want people to enjoy a safe

:02:30. > :02:34.environment in the city centre to do their shopping and enjoy

:02:35. > :02:41.I would say to people, make sure you act responsibly.

:02:42. > :02:45.If you are having a drink, drink responsibly and make sure

:02:46. > :02:49.you plan your transport to and from home.

:02:50. > :02:51.Hundreds of people, who were given infected NHS blood in Scotland

:02:52. > :02:56.in the 1970s and '80s, have now received extra

:02:57. > :02:59.financial support, according to the Scottish Government.

:03:00. > :03:02.They include more than 300 people infected with hepatitis C,

:03:03. > :03:06.who received lump sums totalling tens of thousands of pounds.

:03:07. > :03:09.The news has been broadly welcomed by campaigners,

:03:10. > :03:11.but they also called for urgent action to address

:03:12. > :03:18.From the 1st of April next year with this Scottish scheme,

:03:19. > :03:20.we have the opportunity to support Windows and widowers

:03:21. > :03:28.Work has been ongoing to make sure those widows

:03:29. > :03:30.and widowers get support, because we know, for many of them,

:03:31. > :03:38.It is important to acknowledge that Scotland has done a much better job

:03:39. > :03:44.than south of the border in recognising the payments that

:03:45. > :03:48.have been necessary to people who have suffered in many cases.

:03:49. > :03:52.But in terms of the losers, and I am afraid the widows,

:03:53. > :03:59.Food Standards Scotland has issued a warning about a frozen prawn dish,

:04:00. > :04:03.sold in Scottish branches of the Aldi supermarket chain.

:04:04. > :04:07.It has recalled two batches of Aldi's Specially Selected Tikka

:04:08. > :04:10.King Prawns, saying it contains salmonella bacteria which can

:04:11. > :04:15.Consumers are being urged not to eat the prawns,

:04:16. > :04:20.but to return them to the store for a refund.

:04:21. > :04:24.In the run-up to the Old Firm match on Hogmanay, the Rangers manager

:04:25. > :04:26.Mark Warburton says he shouldn't be judged on results against Celtic.

:04:27. > :04:30.But at Celtic, Brendan Rodgers says the pressure is on the Ibrox side.

:04:31. > :04:39.Just ahead of him, Sviatchenko goes for a goal.

:04:40. > :04:56.There is MacLean interested in that one and he gets there first.

:04:57. > :04:59.He keeps his goal to equalise for St Johnstone.

:05:00. > :05:02.Last night's results widen the points gap between the clubs

:05:03. > :05:06.at the top of the Premiership to 16 points.

:05:07. > :05:09.In terms of where Rangers are at in relation to the points,

:05:10. > :05:13.and with Hearts and Aberdeen closing in behind them...

:05:14. > :05:19.They will want to win the game as much as we want to win.

:05:20. > :05:30.we have had a brilliant opening time to the season.

:05:31. > :05:32.The league champions were better than Rangers in their Premiership

:05:33. > :05:35.match at Celtic Park, and in the League Cup semifinal

:05:36. > :05:40.Rangers managed to have their manager believe he should

:05:41. > :05:43.not be judged on games against the archrivals.

:05:44. > :05:58.Brendan Rodgers says Celtic's average this season of three goals

:05:59. > :06:02.per away game gives them confidence for their trip to Ibrox,

:06:03. > :06:06.but this is either proof that even red-hot strikers

:06:07. > :06:12.like Leigh Griffiths can misfire or it is proof of his accuracy.

:06:13. > :06:18.Let's get the weather outlook for tonight and tomorrow now,

:06:19. > :06:32.And across the country Fairly lonely, breezy and mild. A

:06:33. > :06:39.bit of rain in the far north-west tomorrow morning. That wet weather

:06:40. > :06:44.edging its way as far south as Highland Perthshire. Elsewhere,

:06:45. > :06:49.largely cloudy, dry and mild, with temperatures at 8am at nine or 11

:06:50. > :06:54.Celsius. Breezes from the south-west occasionally gale force on the West

:06:55. > :06:56.Coast. Wet weather up to the north-west of Inverness and

:06:57. > :07:01.stretching up towards Orkney and Shetland. More dry across the

:07:02. > :07:04.north-east. As we had through the course on Friday, most wet weather

:07:05. > :07:09.will stay there. Elsewhere cloudy and the odd spot of light rain or

:07:10. > :07:14.drizzle, but ostensibly dry. A tax break to run the Moray Coast and

:07:15. > :07:18.North East Aberdeenshire. So the order, largely dry and clarity, like

:07:19. > :07:22.the last couple of mornings mist and fog. Stubborn to clear where that

:07:23. > :07:27.happens. Temperatures struggle elsewhere into double digits.

:07:28. > :07:32.Similar story up here and in the north-east. With brightness, 13 or

:07:33. > :07:36.14 Celsius possible. Into Friday night, wet weather in the north-west

:07:37. > :07:40.moves southwards. This weather front here with high-pressure retreating

:07:41. > :07:43.towards the near continent and the rain moving south. If you start the

:07:44. > :07:48.day dry on Saturday, it will turn wet. Heaviest rain likely across the

:07:49. > :07:51.Highlands and Islands, with a yellow bee where a warning with difficult

:07:52. > :07:59.conditions on the roads with spray and rain edging southwards. -- be

:08:00. > :08:02.aware warning. A breezy if not wet afternoon and as we head to the

:08:03. > :08:06.evening, rain moving southwards. They can start to the evening, but

:08:07. > :08:11.reasonably confident it should clear away in time for the bells. A wet

:08:12. > :08:16.start to the night for many but come midnight it should be drier but it

:08:17. > :08:21.will be colder with winds coming from the north. A few wintry showers

:08:22. > :08:23.as well on the north and north-east coast. That is the forecast for now.

:08:24. > :08:28.From everyone on the late team here in Glasgow and around
