:00:08. > :00:10.The girlfriend of the missing RAF serviceman, Corrie McKaig,

:00:11. > :00:12.has revealed she's pregnant with his child.

:00:13. > :00:14.April Oliver discovered in October she was having a baby,

:00:15. > :00:18.weeks after Corrie disappeared after a night out in the Suffolk

:00:19. > :00:25.She's always wanted to be a mother, but looking at the scan of her and

:00:26. > :00:27.Corrie's unborn child, she wishes circumstances could be different.

:00:28. > :00:30.The personal trainer first met him on an online dating site last summer

:00:31. > :00:36.and only discovered she was pregnant fortnight after the RAF gunner went

:00:37. > :00:48.Being a mother is something I always wanted to be, right from

:00:49. > :00:53.when I was younger, but it is just...

:00:54. > :01:02.It is just a horrible time, isn't it, really?

:01:03. > :01:04.Corrie's mother and April's parents have known about the

:01:05. > :01:08.pregnancy since the outset and they are supporting her.

:01:09. > :01:09.It's something I hoped he would be here to help me

:01:10. > :01:11.make the decision with, but he isn't, so it's

:01:12. > :01:17.Not the most pleasant thing to go through on your own,

:01:18. > :01:25.especially when the person you love is not present.

:01:26. > :01:27.Corrie was last caught on CCTV in the early hours of

:01:28. > :01:32.Saturday the 24th of September in the centre of Bury St Edmunds.

:01:33. > :01:35.The 23-year-old had been enjoying a night out

:01:36. > :01:40.left this nightclub alone in the early hours.

:01:41. > :01:45.After entering an area behind some shops, he disappeared.

:01:46. > :01:48.As this home video shows, Corrie McKeague is an extrovert and happy

:01:49. > :01:55.His family say he would talk to anyone.

:01:56. > :01:57.Every week, his mother flies to Scotland to coordinate the search

:01:58. > :02:10.It is difficult to balance the excitement of a new baby

:02:11. > :02:11.to what we are trying to focus on now and that is finding Corrie,

:02:12. > :02:16.We will get through this but just now I have

:02:17. > :02:19.got to, for my own sanity, just try to concentrate on trying to find

:02:20. > :02:30.Corrie and doing everything I can to find him.

:02:31. > :02:32.Preparations are already in place for the birth

:02:33. > :02:36.April now hopes to some personal privacy for her and her

:02:37. > :02:39.Both families are now determined that efforts are focused

:02:40. > :02:48.on finding Corrie, this unborn baby's father.

:02:49. > :02:50.Scotland's tougher drink-drive limits are still failing to deter

:02:51. > :02:52.motorists from drinking too much and getting behind the wheel.

:02:53. > :02:56.This festive period there was a 38% rise in the number of drivers

:02:57. > :03:21.Here's our home affairs correspondent, Reevel Alderson.

:03:22. > :03:30.The drink-drive limit is 50 mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres blood. It

:03:31. > :03:36.was previously 80 mg. How much is that? The new limit is probably less

:03:37. > :03:40.than a pint of beer or a glass of wine. But you should not take a

:03:41. > :03:48.chance, although drivers did. From December until this year, six and in

:03:49. > :03:55.25 motorists failed a breath test, an increase of 38.3% over the

:03:56. > :04:02.previous festive period. Worryingly, only 57 of the drivers who failed

:04:03. > :04:03.were only over the new limit, meaning 90.9% would have failed

:04:04. > :04:05.before the new levy came into force. Police tested more motorists over

:04:06. > :04:08.the festive period than in recent years, campaigners say that the only

:04:09. > :04:10.way to deter drivers who deliberately chose to take

:04:11. > :04:13.to the wheel after drinking The focus is on making sure

:04:14. > :04:19.the majority of people get the Unfortunately, the people breaking

:04:20. > :04:25.the limit now I fear don't take any They need to be caught

:04:26. > :04:32.by the police to And there is apparent support

:04:33. > :04:37.in this Edinburgh pub for the tougher limits and

:04:38. > :04:39.tougher enforcement. I believe there should be zero

:04:40. > :04:41.tolerance on drink-driving. I don't think you should get

:04:42. > :04:47.in your car after drinking. You are out of control

:04:48. > :04:50.when you've had a drink, so the answer should be quite simple,

:04:51. > :04:54.you shouldn't allow a limit, you If you drive, you don't

:04:55. > :05:08.drink and that's it. I think in their head they know

:05:09. > :05:09.is wrong, and I don't know how we can change that.

:05:10. > :05:11.Police say although drink-driving has had a

:05:12. > :05:12.high profile during the festive period,

:05:13. > :05:14.it will continue to be a

:05:15. > :05:17.When not going to stop targeting drink-drivers

:05:18. > :05:19.simply because the festive period is over.

:05:20. > :05:22.There will still be a focus on it throughout the year because there

:05:23. > :05:27.is a hard-core element of motorists disregarding the safety of other

:05:28. > :05:29.people and we will continue to pursue those individuals.

:05:30. > :05:31.My message is still the same, regardless of

:05:32. > :05:38.whether it is Christmas or summer, don't do it.

:05:39. > :05:41.The figures also showed an increase in the people caught the

:05:42. > :05:46.morning after drinking, which police said was reckless.

:05:47. > :05:49.Campaigners south of the border have been calling for

:05:50. > :05:52.a reduction in the drink-driving limit there and have expressed

:05:53. > :05:55.concern to that with so many Scottish drivers being over the old

:05:56. > :05:57.limit, it may dissuade legislators from bringing England and Wales into

:05:58. > :06:09.The driver of a lorry which crashed into a house killing a woman had

:06:10. > :06:11.blacked out with what a court heard described as an

:06:12. > :06:15.55-year-old Catherine Bonner died and her partner, Jim McColl,

:06:16. > :06:18.was badly hurt in the crash in Fairlie in 2013.

:06:19. > :06:21.A Fatal Accident Inquiry heard from a doctor who said

:06:22. > :06:24.driver George Marshall had an underlying medical condition.

:06:25. > :06:26.A charge of death by dangerous driving was dropped after details

:06:27. > :06:33.The way skills are taught needs to be urgently overhauled to cope

:06:34. > :06:39.That's according to a think tank which is warning more needs done

:06:40. > :06:48.Here's our business correspondent, David Henderson.

:06:49. > :06:51.They are here to retrain and keep pace with changes at work.

:06:52. > :06:54.This class is popular with mature students who want to take on new

:06:55. > :07:01.skills for a career in nursery education.

:07:02. > :07:03.You learn to deal with people differently, your

:07:04. > :07:07.communication changes as you develop different

:07:08. > :07:08.working relationships with

:07:09. > :07:12.your mentors and lecturer and other classmates.

:07:13. > :07:18.I think it is vital that we keep learning and not give up at

:07:19. > :07:23.the age of 37, you know, decide to change your life for the better.

:07:24. > :07:26.Soon the owners classmates will take this training to where they work.

:07:27. > :07:34.Most of the students here are under 25

:07:35. > :07:38.but the average age is on the rise as more people look to renew their

:07:39. > :07:43.The college principal told me those skills

:07:44. > :07:45.are focused on the jobs that

:07:46. > :07:50.Employers help shape and design the courses in the

:07:51. > :07:52.programmes, in some cases helping deliver

:07:53. > :07:55.those programmes with us and

:07:56. > :07:59.They provide real live work experience and

:08:00. > :08:03.projects for the students studying in college so they are tapping into

:08:04. > :08:07.talent that exists in the College at the same time as preparing the

:08:08. > :08:14.Technology is becoming ever present in the workplace, like this robot,

:08:15. > :08:19.which was taught to sort clothes, and the gathering pace of change in

:08:20. > :08:25.so many lines of work means skills training may have to adapt.

:08:26. > :08:27.In Scotland there is an issue with people

:08:28. > :08:32.medium-skilled into more highly skilled positions and we've also

:08:33. > :08:35.found there is an issue around skills mismatch in Scotland, where

:08:36. > :08:38.the skills are not meeting the needs of employers.

:08:39. > :08:40.We feel the skills system needs to reform and become

:08:41. > :08:42.more flexible to meet these needs and to be

:08:43. > :08:44.able to be fit for the

:08:45. > :08:53.One the things we have done to respond to that particular

:08:54. > :08:58.challenge of helping people progress in their careers is extra funding to

:08:59. > :09:05.So working patterns are being redrawn and very

:09:06. > :09:09.Instead, change is the order for the day.

:09:10. > :09:19.That presents challenges but opportunities too.

:09:20. > :09:21.The centralisation of the control rooms of the Scottish Fire

:09:22. > :09:24.and Rescue Service is being blamed for a series of call-out errors.

:09:25. > :09:27.Critics claim a lack of local knowledge has led to the mistakes.

:09:28. > :09:36.Fire brigade control centres in both Aberdeen and Inverness were closed

:09:37. > :09:39.down at the end of last year with the new North operations hub in

:09:40. > :09:42.Dundee part of a ?10 million reorganisation and investment in

:09:43. > :09:47.The closures were always controversial and in recent

:09:48. > :09:51.weeks it is alleged that emergency fire crews have been sent out when

:09:52. > :09:55.there were other crews close at hand.

:09:56. > :09:58.One crew was called out from Lairg to attend an incident on the

:09:59. > :10:08.Another station was asked to go to an

:10:09. > :10:15.address in Dundee and that defies belief, that in a life-threatening

:10:16. > :10:21.situation and a life safety service, these things are happening.

:10:22. > :10:25.Councillors in the Highlands have always been against the

:10:26. > :10:28.centralisation and are now calling for the closure of the local call

:10:29. > :10:32.Politicians are demanding answers to the current

:10:33. > :10:39.We need to sure that fire engines go to the right place right

:10:40. > :10:41.across the Highlands and Islands and that has

:10:42. > :10:43.not happened recently so

:10:44. > :10:47.Parliament should look into it and find out what went wrong

:10:48. > :10:47.and make sure the Fire Service operate as it

:10:48. > :10:51.Scottish Fire and rescue declined to be interviewed about the

:10:52. > :10:52.allegations, but in a statement, they said

:10:53. > :10:54.they had reviewed what were

:10:55. > :10:56.unsubstantiated claims and was set aside that in all cases the correct

:10:57. > :10:59.results have been sent to the incident involved.

:11:00. > :11:01.They added that in any area local knowledge came not

:11:02. > :11:04.just from control room staff, but also from

:11:05. > :11:30.We've had some outbreaks of rain, merging into longer spells and

:11:31. > :11:35.clearer spells to the east. That will be the case for the rest of the

:11:36. > :11:39.night along with brisk winds. Gail Folsom the Western Isles along the

:11:40. > :11:45.West course on for the Northern Isles. Through the night, fairly

:11:46. > :11:50.mild. Clear spells towards the east. By morning, showers for the far

:11:51. > :11:57.north, the Northern Isles and the North West. Temperatures, 4-5 C. Dry

:11:58. > :12:01.in the central belt and across the borders. As we head through the day,

:12:02. > :12:06.we will see improving conditions and this band of rain is continuing

:12:07. > :12:11.across the west coast in particular. Sunny spells along the east coast.

:12:12. > :12:16.The rain extends down south across towards north-western parts of

:12:17. > :12:19.England and into Wales and the South West of England. Brian is along the

:12:20. > :12:26.east coast all the way down into the south-east. Temperatures 9-10 C.

:12:27. > :12:30.Tomorrow evening, further rain for a time, but as this moves through, we

:12:31. > :12:34.get much colder air for tomorrow night into Wednesday. It is going to

:12:35. > :12:39.turn a very windy indeed, with night into Wednesday. It is going to

:12:40. > :12:44.severe gales for the North and gale force gusts across Scotland and

:12:45. > :12:50.Northern Ireland. Showers become increasingly wintry. Wednesday,

:12:51. > :12:54.those showers with sleet and snow in the North West. Brighter moments

:12:55. > :13:00.between these showers, but bitterly cold and temperatures of 5 degrees.

:13:01. > :13:04.But with the wind chill, it will feel extremely cold. The Met office

:13:05. > :13:08.have issued several warnings for the strength of the wind and for snow

:13:09. > :13:14.showers with snow falling readily to lower levels on Thursday. Those

:13:15. > :13:18.warnings across most of Scotland in the West on for Northern Ireland,

:13:19. > :13:20.too. Thursday, widespread across Scotland and extended to the coast.

:13:21. > :13:24.Our next update is during Breakfast at 6.25am tomorrow morning.
