:00:00. > :00:00.That's Newsnight with Kirstie coming up.

:00:00. > :00:17.Here, on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are.

:00:18. > :00:20.New developments tonight in two separate

:00:21. > :00:26.In a moment we'll hear about a new search

:00:27. > :00:28.in the case of Emma Caldwell who disappeared twelve years ago.

:00:29. > :00:30.Meanwhile in East Lothian police are investigating human

:00:31. > :00:39.They have spoken to the family of forty-three year

:00:40. > :00:46.Our reporter Morag Kinniburgh reports.

:00:47. > :00:53.The very slowly and has been closed for several miles for several days.

:00:54. > :01:00.40 police officers are involved. They are investigating the discovery

:01:01. > :01:05.of human bones near Gosford house. Police say recovering and recording

:01:06. > :01:08.that remains is painstaking work. They've contacted the family of

:01:09. > :01:15.Louise Tiffney, a 43-year-old Edinburgh woman who went missing

:01:16. > :01:20.shortly after this footage of her with her son when he appeared on

:01:21. > :01:25.court in another matter. He stood trial for her murder. The case was

:01:26. > :01:31.not proven, it is thought he left the country. At the time, searches

:01:32. > :01:41.were made of the water of Leith near her home. Officers have spent a

:01:42. > :01:45.further day exploring the area around Gosford house. They stress

:01:46. > :01:46.the investigation is at the early stages and it could be many more

:01:47. > :01:56.days before the identity is known. As that investigation

:01:57. > :01:58.was continuing, across the country a fingertip search of a remote area

:01:59. > :02:00.of woodland was underway - in what's being described

:02:01. > :02:03.as a "crucial stage" of another 27-year-old Emma Caldwell

:02:04. > :02:05.was last seen alive A month later her body was found

:02:06. > :02:10.in woodland in south Lanarkshire. Our Home Affairs Correspondent

:02:11. > :02:12.Reevel Alderson reports on the developments

:02:13. > :02:30.in this long-running case. This is one of the last positive

:02:31. > :02:35.sightings of our Coldwell. She was working as a prostitute to fund a

:02:36. > :02:40.heroin habit. Despite a number of arrests nobody has been charged with

:02:41. > :02:43.her murder. Today, her parents were with police as a new search was

:02:44. > :02:50.announced. Her mother praised their persistence. They addressed the

:02:51. > :02:54.killer directly. Living with the guilt of taking her life must be

:02:55. > :03:00.dreadful but if you have no conscience then be aware my family

:03:01. > :03:07.and I will never give up fighting for justice on error's behalf. We

:03:08. > :03:14.can do no less because we love and miss her every day, not just today.

:03:15. > :03:18.The new search is concentrated in the woods where the body was found

:03:19. > :03:24.but this is only part of a reinvigorated investigation. There

:03:25. > :03:30.are 13,000 people on the police database connected with this case.

:03:31. > :03:35.Officers have seized 9000 items and viewed 4000 hours of CCTV footage.

:03:36. > :03:38.Police are keen to speak to any woman who may have been involved in

:03:39. > :03:43.prostitution and may have been brought to these words to come

:03:44. > :03:55.forward. They are keen to trace a black BMW which Emma might have got

:03:56. > :03:59.into. It is believed to originate from Dumfries. The motorway is only

:04:00. > :04:10.a couple of miles from this location. This search will see

:04:11. > :04:15.police divers in a pond nearby. We have returned to this area on the

:04:16. > :04:18.back of information we received through witnesses and through

:04:19. > :04:22.consultation with national search advisers. We will undertake those

:04:23. > :04:36.searches. This phase of the investigation will

:04:37. > :04:39.last a week with detectives idyll to use new techniques including

:04:40. > :04:46.enhanced DNA techniques. It's often claimed that Scotland has

:04:47. > :04:48.a reputation for welcoming An organisation which helps asylum

:04:49. > :04:52.seeks in Glasgow says it's come across examples

:04:53. > :05:15.of destitution, harassment Olivia fled to Scotland from Zambia

:05:16. > :05:18.in 2005 on humanitarian grounds. She has since suffered health problems

:05:19. > :05:25.and lost count of the number of times she's had to move. In January,

:05:26. > :05:29.after a threat of legal action, she was offered a flat in Ibrox where

:05:30. > :05:41.she lives with her ten-month-old son. I've been staying somewhere,

:05:42. > :05:49.they told me the contract was... Existing on ?25 a week has been a

:05:50. > :05:54.shock. When I write down the list of what I need I need to ignore myself.

:05:55. > :06:04.We've been offered accommodation, thankfully. Last week she gave

:06:05. > :06:08.evidence to the Holyrood committee. The Red Cross told the committee it

:06:09. > :06:15.had seen a significant rise in the number of destitute asylum seekers.

:06:16. > :06:18.Please Scotland talks of a high risk these vulnerable people face of

:06:19. > :06:23.being targeted by criminal gangs. In three separate sessions, the

:06:24. > :06:27.committee has been presented with claims of how asylum seekers have

:06:28. > :06:29.been illegally evicted from properties, given no notice to quit

:06:30. > :06:52.or finding locks changed. We hear regularly of situations

:06:53. > :06:58.where asylum seekers have been bullied, intimidated, derogatory

:06:59. > :07:06.comments have been made by the very people meant to support them. A

:07:07. > :07:16.researcher says there needs to be a consistent approach from local

:07:17. > :07:21.authorities I would like to see a consistent approach for people and

:07:22. > :07:30.levels of financial support increased and accommodation secured

:07:31. > :07:34.in a timely fashion. To date, Glasgow is the only local authority

:07:35. > :07:38.to take on asylum seekers under the dispersal programme but other

:07:39. > :07:40.councils are showing interest. The equalities and human rights

:07:41. > :07:48.committee will publish its findings later this month.

:07:49. > :07:57.Final submissions have been heard in the case of a grandmother pursuing

:07:58. > :08:01.Trump International. She says her privacy was breached after she was

:08:02. > :08:05.told she was filmed during eating near the Trump golf course in

:08:06. > :08:19.Aberdeenshire. This time next year we will be

:08:20. > :08:23.watching the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Teams

:08:24. > :08:26.Scotland have high hopes of success. Today, the focus was on Portobello

:08:27. > :08:34.Scotland have high hopes of success. beach, which is the training centre

:08:35. > :08:36.for the beach volleyball team. One year to go and Scotland is getting

:08:37. > :08:42.into the Gold Coast spirit. year to go and Scotland is getting

:08:43. > :08:50.Temperatures may be less specific but there is nothing tepid about the

:08:51. > :08:56.skills of the team. We are trying to show people that it is a sport you

:08:57. > :09:06.can play in Scotland. The popularity of the sport is growing so we want

:09:07. > :09:12.to attract more people to the sport. The most successful was Glasgow 2014

:09:13. > :09:19.with a record 53 medals won. Teams Scotland's most successful overseas

:09:20. > :09:28.games was in 2006. What is the expectation one year from now? We

:09:29. > :09:39.are looking at our best overseas performance for the team. We will be

:09:40. > :09:45.looking for a top six performance. We know that they will be able to

:09:46. > :09:51.deliver that. More than 29 medals and we will have our best overseas

:09:52. > :09:53.performance. Some of those performers got together to try their

:09:54. > :10:00.performance. Some of those hand in beach volleyball, a chance

:10:01. > :10:04.to meet other athletes. Most of them are Ball sports peoples of the

:10:05. > :10:08.better at volleyball. It is nice meeting them. I've met them before

:10:09. > :10:13.but they are all really nice and I'm really excited to be in a team with

:10:14. > :10:18.them. I suppose the terrible question I have to ask you is about

:10:19. > :10:37.bikinis. Do you wear them? Not in Scotland. When you compete you need

:10:38. > :10:40.to wear it if it is the temperature. If it is above 16 degrees. So there

:10:41. > :10:45.you go. Just one year to go. In football, and two games

:10:46. > :10:47.in the Scottish Premiership tonight Aberdeen beat Inverness

:10:48. > :11:02.Caledonian Thistle 1-0 Neil Lennon and Jim Duffy have both

:11:03. > :11:11.been issued a notice of complaint by the FA's compliance officer

:11:12. > :11:15.following their touchline fight. Tempers flared in the Championship

:11:16. > :11:20.clash. Both clubs have been charged with alleged misconduct of their

:11:21. > :11:33.players and staff. Let's get the weather now. For many of us it has

:11:34. > :11:36.been a cloudy evening but fine end to the day. Whilst it is fairly

:11:37. > :11:39.cloudy elsewhere we've had some blustery showers. Heavy ones across

:11:40. > :11:53.parts of Shetland with the odd rumble of thunder. Here we will have

:11:54. > :12:01.the strongest winds. It was wide into Shetland. By morning, there

:12:02. > :12:07.will be breezy conditions and the showers will be towards the West. If

:12:08. > :12:12.you're heading out, it is drier for Orkney. Elsewhere, towards the

:12:13. > :12:23.Highlands and Islands, some shoppers here. Well scattered towards the

:12:24. > :12:31.east. During the rest of the day we will see the shower is coming in

:12:32. > :12:34.across the Northwest. Some sunshine here and fairly dry conditions

:12:35. > :12:39.elsewhere. Let's take a wide look at the rest of the UK. High pressure is

:12:40. > :12:47.controlling our weather. It is largely dry. A few showers across

:12:48. > :12:54.Northern Ireland as well. Temperatures for all of us reaching

:12:55. > :12:59.around 11 to 13 Celsius. High pressure for the rest of us as well.

:13:00. > :13:05.That is introducing more in the way of cloud for Northern Ireland. We

:13:06. > :13:12.will see isobars towards the North as well. Breezy conditions will

:13:13. > :13:21.continue. We will look ahead to the rest of the week. Here is the

:13:22. > :13:31.picture. The best of the showers developing along the east Coast.

:13:32. > :13:34.That is Reporting Scotland. Good night.
