:01:01. > :01:04.holidays, parents have been getting children kitted out with new
:01:05. > :01:11.uniforms, but at an estimated cost of at least ?130 per child, that can
:01:12. > :01:15.be expensive. There is a system in place to help low-income families
:01:16. > :01:20.pay for uniforms, run by councils, but the amount of cash available
:01:21. > :01:27.varies widely between local authorities, from ?20 per child and
:01:28. > :01:30.Angus up to ?110 per child in West Lothian. A coalition of
:01:31. > :01:33.anti-property groups has called on ministers to bring in a minimum
:01:34. > :01:39.school clothing grant, saying it would be an important step to
:01:40. > :01:41.tackling inequality. We understand the Scottish Government and local
:01:42. > :01:45.authorities are under financial pressure but it is a question of
:01:46. > :01:51.priorities. The Scottish Government and many local authorities have said
:01:52. > :01:54.their priority is to include reducing child poverty and the
:01:55. > :01:58.attainment gap and the introduction of minimum school clothing grants is
:01:59. > :02:04.a practical way of taking a step to achieving those things. This is very
:02:05. > :02:08.timely given that the Scottish Government has today proposed
:02:09. > :02:11.legislation which it says wants to eradicate child poverty. Earlier
:02:12. > :02:16.this year ministers gain new powers to introduce minimum school clothing
:02:17. > :02:20.grants, and they are about to start talks with other groups representing
:02:21. > :02:26.councils to see who would be entitled to claim and how it could
:02:27. > :02:30.be paid for, with the aim, says the government, of ensuring all children
:02:31. > :02:37.have the clothes they need to help them private school. Thank you very

:04:16. > :04:18.Jenkins wept as he was led away in handcuffs to start his six-year
:04:19. > :04:21.sentence in the Young offenders institution, and he is disqualified
:04:22. > :04:22.from holding a driving lesson for seven years.
