:00:09. > :00:11.The Scottish rower Katherine Grainger has

:00:12. > :00:13.successfully started the defence of her Olympic title

:00:14. > :00:19.And within the next hour, the swimming gets underway,

:00:20. > :00:34.The real Olympics are officially up and running and we've had plenty of

:00:35. > :00:40.Scottish interest on the first day. What about last night's opening

:00:41. > :00:45.ceremony? It was colourful and noisy and vibrant, at what a night for

:00:46. > :00:51.Andy Murray, leading out Team GB. Later on, the swimming gets under

:00:52. > :00:54.way, Hannah Miley is in the heats of the 400 individual medley. Will she

:00:55. > :01:00.get through to the final? Ross Murdoch also in action for the heats

:01:01. > :01:04.and essentially the semifinal of the 100 metres breaststroke. There has

:01:05. > :01:08.been plenty of Scottish interest in the rowing, Katherine Grainger the

:01:09. > :01:11.defending champion is through to the semifinals of the double sculls. She

:01:12. > :01:18.had to work hard, taking second place. The conditions were exciting,

:01:19. > :01:22.I think it is great, we want to be in the middle of the field. It was a

:01:23. > :01:29.very competitive race and it is a great start. Jen Mackintosh didn't

:01:30. > :01:33.make it through to the final of the ten metres air rifle butt 50th place

:01:34. > :01:39.finish, the best ever for a British woman in event. I was pretty

:01:40. > :01:43.nervous, which surprised me. My head was calm but my body had other

:01:44. > :01:47.ideas. Disappointment in tennis for Colin Fleming and his partner, they

:01:48. > :01:57.have lost in the opening round to Santiago Gonzalez. But all eyes on

:01:58. > :01:58.the pool this evening, how many an Ross Murdoch boast in action. --

:01:59. > :02:00.Hannah Miley. One man has died and another has

:02:01. > :02:03.been injured after a tree fell Police were called to an area

:02:04. > :02:07.of woodlands on the south bank of the Water of Leith,

:02:08. > :02:09.near Dean Village, It's understood the men had

:02:10. > :02:19.been wild camping. This survey appears to be an

:02:20. > :02:23.exceptional accident, a freak accident, even. The police were

:02:24. > :02:29.called to an area of woodlands about 3:30 this morning. They say that a

:02:30. > :02:33.very large tree fell on to the tent the men were sleeping in. One of the

:02:34. > :02:37.men died at the scene, the other suffered minor injuries. It seems

:02:38. > :02:42.they had both been wild camping. This area is often described as an

:02:43. > :02:45.oasis of calm close to Edinburgh city centre. The dead man has not

:02:46. > :02:49.been named and the police are trying to trace his next of kin. It is

:02:50. > :02:54.important to stress there is no suggestion of any wrongdoing. The

:02:55. > :02:59.police say it seems the tree fell as a result of what they are describing

:03:00. > :03:02.as natural occurrences. A report will be sent to the posh greeter

:03:03. > :03:07.fresco. -- the procurator fiscal. A street has been cordoned off

:03:08. > :03:10.in the Partick area of Glasgow after the wall of a restaurant roof

:03:11. > :03:13.garden collapsed and fell 20 feet Fire crews led residents

:03:14. > :03:16.from an adjoining block of flats and customers from

:03:17. > :03:18.a nearby pub to safety. The restaurant, on Benalder Street,

:03:19. > :03:21.was closed at the time. A 46-year-old woman has died

:03:22. > :03:24.after the car she was driving collided with another car

:03:25. > :03:26.on the A68, north of Pathhead. The driver of the other car,

:03:27. > :03:30.a man of 62, is in hospital The accident happened

:03:31. > :03:33.yesterday afternoon. A Marine Accident Investigation

:03:34. > :03:36.Branch team is looking into an incident aboard a fishing

:03:37. > :03:38.vessel in which a crewman The UK registered boat

:03:39. > :03:42.the Sea Harvester is berthed at Campbeltown in Argyll

:03:43. > :03:45.while the inquiry continues. Police Scotland say a man

:03:46. > :03:47.was taken to hospital Let's get the latest on the weekend

:03:48. > :04:07.weather now, from Kirsteen. Unsubtle across much of the country

:04:08. > :04:12.between tonight and tomorrow. All courtesy of this area of low

:04:13. > :04:18.pressure. Really quite strong winds for the time of year. This evening,

:04:19. > :04:23.we have a heavy batch of rain moving North. Some thunder and lightning.

:04:24. > :04:28.That gradually clears during the night, becoming drier for most. The

:04:29. > :04:37.winds will continue to strengthen. Fresh to strong for most of us. A

:04:38. > :04:40.mild night to come for all. Into tomorrow, the Met Office has issued

:04:41. > :04:47.a yellow warning because there is some concern regarding the strength

:04:48. > :04:53.of the wind. Winds gusting around 40 or 50 mph, perhaps 60 in exposure,

:04:54. > :05:00.which is likely to lead to some cancellations of berries, some

:05:01. > :05:02.bridge restrictions. -- cancellations of ferries. The best

:05:03. > :05:04.of the weather in the East. And that's all from

:05:05. > :05:06.Reporting Scotland this evening. For now, from all of us here,

:05:07. > :05:20.have a very good evening. For most of us it's been a sparkling

:05:21. > :05:23.Saturday, quite literally across Broadstairs in Kent not a cloud in

:05:24. > :05:24.the sky, beautiful afternoon
