:00:00. > :00:08.An array of sports stars join Scots from academia,

:00:09. > :00:11.the world of business and charity workers, celebrating their inclusion

:00:12. > :00:16.Andy Murray, the world number one in tennis,

:00:17. > :00:19.receives a knighthood at the age of 29.

:00:20. > :00:27.He's said it's been a great end to an extraordinary year.

:00:28. > :00:38.It sounds strange, obviously. It is a big honour, a recognition for my

:00:39. > :00:43.results over the last few years. I'm happy being known as Andy, that's

:00:44. > :00:47.fine by me. In Dunblane, the honour is seen as a fitting tribute for the

:00:48. > :00:50.young man who has never forgotten his roots. I'd put him up there with

:00:51. > :00:57.the greatest with what he's achieved. He will go down as an

:00:58. > :01:01.all-time great in British sporting history. He's fantastic, he's

:01:02. > :01:06.brilliant, he deserves it. Brilliant, delighted. He's a great

:01:07. > :01:11.guy. The whole family they do so much for us. And this is the icing

:01:12. > :01:16.on the cake as far as his career is concerned. Sir Andy Murray,

:01:17. > :01:21.brilliant, fantastic news! There is an MBE for Gordon Reid has services

:01:22. > :01:25.to wheelchair tennis. Katherine Grainger, the first woman to win

:01:26. > :01:42.five medals at five games, becomes dame for services to

:01:43. > :01:46.rowing and charity. This year feels like it has been not just a stepping

:01:47. > :01:49.stone but the springboard what comes next. Adding a title to my name...

:01:50. > :01:51.There's a responsibility only to go out and do something, make another

:01:52. > :01:54.big step and have a big impact. Elsewhere, 100 other Scots are being

:01:55. > :01:56.recognised to Scottish life and society.

:01:57. > :01:58.Edinburgh is all set to lead Scotland's Hogmanay celebrations,

:01:59. > :02:01.with the world famous street party, and a concert and fireworks show.

:02:02. > :02:04.Tens of thousands of revellers are expected in the city centre.

:02:05. > :02:06.The event is estimated to be worth more than ?40

:02:07. > :02:21.In some parts of the world, it is already 2017. But here in Edinburgh,

:02:22. > :02:26.there's still plenty to do as preparations continue well into the

:02:27. > :02:30.afternoon. Princes Street is shocked to transom traffic and soon it'll be

:02:31. > :02:36.the scene of a massive street party. I heard about this party, it's very

:02:37. > :02:40.famous, it's in the top five things you need to do before you die so I

:02:41. > :02:51.made the trip. In Scotland, they are very friendly. And hospitable. Nice

:02:52. > :02:55.people. And I came here. With 75,000 revellers, police say there will be

:02:56. > :02:59.a heightened presence. Organisers say security is their number one

:03:00. > :03:03.priority. We have a year-round process of reviewing our safety

:03:04. > :03:06.measures with Police Scotland and the local authority. We have

:03:07. > :03:09.measures in place and we ask the public to their bit to help as well

:03:10. > :03:14.and make sure they have their plans in place forgetting here, staying

:03:15. > :03:19.warm, drinking responsibly and using the transport to get home. The city

:03:20. > :03:27.is getting ready to party. Crowds are heading for Princes Street. And

:03:28. > :03:30.there is a ceilidh that'll bring in the New Year. We are expecting wind

:03:31. > :03:32.and rain but, hopefully, it'll clear away by midnight.

:03:33. > :03:34.ScotRail is apologising to customers caught up in more

:03:35. > :03:36.travel misery today, after problems with overhead

:03:37. > :03:38.electric cables caused services to be suspended throughout

:03:39. > :03:42.Five of 14 routes experienced major disruption.

:03:43. > :03:45.Nearly all low level services via Glasgow Queen Street

:03:46. > :03:48.and Glasgow Central were cancelled this afternoon, with only some bus

:03:49. > :03:51.services eventually being put in place to transport passengers.

:03:52. > :03:53.The top two football teams in the country met

:03:54. > :03:58.Rangers and Celtic played out a thrilling Hogmanay encounter.

:03:59. > :04:00.And it was the current league champions who came out winners,

:04:01. > :04:02.stretching their Premiership lead to 19 points.

:04:03. > :04:11.Our senior football reporter, Chris McLaughlin, reports.

:04:12. > :04:21.One of the noisiest derbies in the world started with silence. In

:04:22. > :04:29.memory of the 66 fans who lost their lives in the New Year Ibrox disaster

:04:30. > :04:34.over 45 years ago. As the New Year approaches, it was an old face who

:04:35. > :04:37.had Ibrox rocking once more. Step forward 37-year-old Kenny Miller.

:04:38. > :04:43.Just reward for Rangers who'd started well. There are reasons why

:04:44. > :04:51.Celtic are so far ahead in the title race. One of those, the young French

:04:52. > :04:55.striker, Dembele. Celtic were level. At the start of the second half,

:04:56. > :05:01.only the crossbar stopped giving Celtic the lead. Sinclair was on

:05:02. > :05:08.target in the follow-up. He made amends with 20 minutes to go. Little

:05:09. > :05:11.help from the Rangers defence that had temporarily disappeared. In an

:05:12. > :05:15.entertaining match, the home side looked dangerous in spells. Miller

:05:16. > :05:22.thought he'd levelled late on. The post had other ideas. Disappointment

:05:23. > :05:25.for Miller and for Rangers. It finished here with Celtic deserving

:05:26. > :05:31.of their victory. It's party time now for them and their fans. On the

:05:32. > :05:35.last day of 2016, the title is all but there's.

:05:36. > :05:37.There were four other matches in the Premiership

:05:38. > :05:39.with wins for Dundee, and Ross County, in the Highland

:05:40. > :05:45.There were draws for Partick and Hamilton.

:05:46. > :05:47.Now, if you're planning to celebrate the New Year out of doors,

:05:48. > :05:49.the all-important weather forecast, from Christopher.

:05:50. > :05:55.Is the rain set to clear in time for the bells, Christopher?

:05:56. > :06:04.It is indeed, fingers crossed. Good evening. All that rain we've had is

:06:05. > :06:08.on its way out to leave many areas dry. The blue will be some showers

:06:09. > :06:14.in the north. There's the rain, offer goes south of the border. Many

:06:15. > :06:17.areas for central and southern Scotland are dry but it will be

:06:18. > :06:24.turning chilly, breezy as well. Further north, some showers, some

:06:25. > :06:28.low temperatures, and we have some sweet to lower levels. The wind is

:06:29. > :06:35.strong from the north and quite bitter, and there will be the risk

:06:36. > :06:42.of ice overnight. Be aware warning on the roads for those showers

:06:43. > :06:46.washing the grit. 2017, plenty of sunshine the central and southern

:06:47. > :06:52.parts with showers holding on in the north, then edging southwards. It is

:06:53. > :06:57.a cold and bracing day but plenty of sunshine to welcome in 2017.

:06:58. > :06:58.Afternoon highs of five. That's the forecast for now.

:06:59. > :07:03.But we're back with more news and weather 9:35pm.

:07:04. > :07:05.Until then, a have a very good evening.
