:00:09. > :00:12.church goers in Scotland has fallen by more than half

:00:13. > :00:16.The Scottish Church Census said the number of attendees

:00:17. > :00:23.and that elderly people make up a higher proportion.

:00:24. > :00:30.The census, held last year, was the fourth to be undertaken on Scottish

:00:31. > :00:32.church attendance since the first one in 1984.

:00:33. > :00:34.In that year, around 854,000 people regularly attended church.

:00:35. > :00:39.That figure fell to around 390,000 by last year.

:00:40. > :00:43.The research also revealed that 42% of churchgoers

:00:44. > :00:51.The number of congregations in 2016 was around 3,700,

:00:52. > :01:02.So, do the figures indicate a crisis in Christianity across Scotland?

:01:03. > :01:05.This report shows to us what we already sense,

:01:06. > :01:09.the scale of the challenges facing churches in Scotland today.

:01:10. > :01:12.Scotland is a hugely different country which has changed a lot

:01:13. > :01:15.over the last 50 years but there is still a huge

:01:16. > :01:19.appetite to understand what Christianity is all about.

:01:20. > :01:22.But churches also have to change the way in which it is

:01:23. > :01:28.But the Census also revealed growth amongst some denominations

:01:29. > :01:34.It's not as if all churches in Scotland are failing at the same

:01:35. > :01:37.time, and all churches are deserted at the moment.

:01:38. > :01:39.Many churches have been filled today, it is Easter Day.

:01:40. > :01:46.And I think that you have to look at the churches that

:01:47. > :01:53.This church has grown by 20% since last year,

:01:54. > :01:55.and that indicates that some churches are doing very well

:01:56. > :02:00.While they do not necessarily make happy reading, the figures

:02:01. > :02:02.are being seen by some as an opportunity to bring

:02:03. > :02:10.The parents of Molly Grace, a young girl with cerebral palsy,

:02:11. > :02:14.have praised volunteers at a Scots charity who travelled from Glasgow

:02:15. > :02:18.to Newcastle to deliver a vital feeding tube.

:02:19. > :02:26.Molly Grace has cerebral palsy and cannot walk or talk.

:02:27. > :02:29.The seven-year-old from Newcastle has to be fed through a tube

:02:30. > :02:31.attached to her bowel, but the one she had was not

:02:32. > :02:35.the right size, and last week she became very sick.

:02:36. > :02:38.Getting hold of the device she needed quickly was proving

:02:39. > :02:42.difficult because of a national shortage, and in desperation her

:02:43. > :02:45.parents made an appeal on social media.

:02:46. > :02:51.we felt like we were doing something in the meantime, not expecting

:02:52. > :02:58.The right bit of equipment was found in Glasgow,

:02:59. > :03:00.and volunteers at the medical transport charity

:03:01. > :03:05.They even got to meet Molly and her family.

:03:06. > :03:09.Very humbling, obviously, to meet a brave girl like Molly

:03:10. > :03:12.and speak to her mum and dad and see what they have been through

:03:13. > :03:14.and what Molly has been through as well.

:03:15. > :03:17.And to get to know that this could potentially give her a bit

:03:18. > :03:24.Molly was fitted with her new tube, and has been recovering in hospital.

:03:25. > :03:27.Her family thanked the drivers with this home-made card,

:03:28. > :03:32.and have started another home-made campaign to raise money for

:03:33. > :03:41.Andy Murray has joined leading environmental campaigners in warning

:03:42. > :03:45.the Prime Minister against watering down commitments to tackle climate

:03:46. > :03:49.change in order to secure post-Brexit trade deals.

:04:50. > :04:58.Good evening, for some of us it has been a fine enter the day. This was

:04:59. > :05:05.the scene in the West Highlands this evening. Tonight it looks largely

:05:06. > :05:09.dry, with some clear spells. Perhaps a touch of frost developing in

:05:10. > :05:12.sheltered rural areas. Wintry showers moving in through the

:05:13. > :05:16.northern isles, much of Sutherland, Caithness and the north-east during

:05:17. > :05:22.tomorrow morning. As these showers pushed further south eastwards, they

:05:23. > :05:26.will fall as rain, and a lot of dry and bright weather elsewhere.

:05:27. > :05:31.Tomorrow afternoon across the UK, showers continuing to track south

:05:32. > :05:33.and eastwards, and there will be some brightness and sunshine in

:05:34. > :05:38.between the showers. Much of Scotland dry during tomorrow

:05:39. > :05:44.afternoon. Really quite chilly, if not cold field for most of us,

:05:45. > :05:48.particularly across Scotland with a fresh northerly breeze across north

:05:49. > :05:52.eastern and eastern areas. Tomorrow evening, most of the showers will

:05:53. > :05:57.die out a lovely spells of sunshine to end the day, and overnight under

:05:58. > :06:02.clear skies with relatively light winds, fully widespread and sharp

:06:03. > :06:10.frost will develop, with lows in rural areas of minus five Celsius.

:06:11. > :06:12.On Tuesday, high pressure in charge, lots of dry and bright weather,

:06:13. > :06:16.sunshine in the morning at least. Cloud increasing over the course of

:06:17. > :06:18.the day, turning the sunshine somewhat hazy. Light winds and still

:06:19. > :06:22.on the chilly side.
