:00:00. > :00:10.referendum. Let us get more on that now with our special edition of
:00:11. > :00:36.Scotland Decides: Referendum Today. Here is Sarah Smith.
:00:37. > :00:45.The Prime Minister travels to Scotland with Ed Miliband and Nick
:00:46. > :00:52.Clegg. I will be heartbroken if this family of nations was torn apart. Be
:00:53. > :00:59.Yes Campaign dismissed a visit from Westminster leaders as a last
:01:00. > :01:02.ditched effort. We are seeing Team Westminster jetting up to Scotland
:01:03. > :01:11.for the day because they are panicking in the campaign.
:01:12. > :01:14.Good evening from Glasgow where this time next week millions of Scots
:01:15. > :01:17.will be preparing to cast their votes in the referendum. Today the
:01:18. > :01:19.three main party leaders at Westminster campaigned north of the
:01:20. > :01:22.border. And although they were all in very separate locations, their
:01:23. > :01:25.messages were most definitely joined up ` calling for voters to reject
:01:26. > :01:31.independence. The Yes campaign dismissed the trip by David Cameron,
:01:32. > :01:33.Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband as "desperate". First Minister Alex
:01:34. > :01:36.Salmond said it was a last`gasp, last`ditch effort. Tonight a new
:01:37. > :01:40.poll suggests a 6 point lead for the No campaign. More of that in a
:01:41. > :01:43.minute. But first this is what the Prime Minister had to say in
:01:44. > :01:57.I think you have heard a lot of arguments that I would call
:01:58. > :02:03.arguments of the head. Arguments about whether Scotland would be
:02:04. > :02:07.better off, more prosperous, stronger, safer inside the United
:02:08. > :02:12.Kingdom or not. I would like to ring that the Better Together has made
:02:13. > :02:16.strong arguments of the head, but it is important we make those arguments
:02:17. > :02:23.of the hearts and talk about what we care about and how we feel. How we
:02:24. > :02:28.feel about this amazing country that we have built together. Sometimes
:02:29. > :02:32.people say to me why do you fill so strongly about it? After all, coming
:02:33. > :02:38.to Scotland, here you are a Tory leader with one member of Harlem
:02:39. > :02:41.and, with your life be easier and wouldn't it be easier to get a
:02:42. > :02:47.majority in Scotland separated from the United Kingdom? My answer is I
:02:48. > :02:51.care far more about my country than I do about my party. I care hugely
:02:52. > :02:56.about this extraordinary country, this United Kingdom that we have
:02:57. > :03:00.altogether and that is what I want to talk about today because I would
:03:01. > :03:05.be hard broken if this family of nations that we have put together
:03:06. > :03:13.and that we have done such amazing things together, if this family of
:03:14. > :03:17.nations was torn apart. Debuted in Cameron in `` David Cameron in
:03:18. > :03:22.Edinburgh. Alex Salmond said the main concerns of the party leaders
:03:23. > :03:25.were keeping their own jobs. He spoke to our political editor Nick
:03:26. > :03:35.Robinson. What was interesting today is that Team Westminster, David
:03:36. > :03:47.Cameron, Ed Miliband, jetted up to Scotland. We have the concerns about
:03:48. > :03:54.education and the NHS, but their concerns are about their own jobs.
:03:55. > :04:02.They have a very narrow focus. That is why we are excited about winning
:04:03. > :04:07.the campaign. Sir Ian Wood, an oilman, he says you don't get the
:04:08. > :04:12.jobs, the pensions, the protection of the NHS if you have not got the
:04:13. > :04:17.money and that you are wildly overoptimistic. What if he is right
:04:18. > :04:35.and you are wrong? As part of team Scotland we have almost 3000
:04:36. > :04:38.Scottish businesses. Imagine I'm a no vote are making up my mind and I
:04:39. > :04:46.think what if the First Minister is wrong and this is Ms man is right?
:04:47. > :04:50.Where are we then? And that's why I referred to the businesses that are
:04:51. > :04:57.part of our team. Everyone is entitled to their point of view.
:04:58. > :05:02.Tonight a new poll has been published for the daily record
:05:03. > :05:08.newspaper. Excluding undecided voters, 1000 people question
:05:09. > :05:15.suggested 47% will vote yes and 53% no. The Scottish Labour leader is
:05:16. > :05:19.with me now. Thank you for coming in. Is it good for your campaign to
:05:20. > :05:24.have the Westminster party leaders campaigning in Scotland? People will
:05:25. > :05:34.make a adjustment whether they value politicians or not. Think those
:05:35. > :05:42.three men and Alex Salmond should be listening to the businessmen who are
:05:43. > :05:48.making their presence felt. They provide significant and skilled jobs
:05:49. > :05:54.in Scotland. They are saying we are under threat. We should ask Alex
:05:55. > :05:59.Salmond why he wants to put these jobs at risk? Is this a price worth
:06:00. > :06:07.paying when other people will suffer? What we have these comments
:06:08. > :06:22.from business leaders, the headlines are talking about the three party
:06:23. > :06:35.leaders. It allows Alex Salmond to hit team Scotland against Team
:06:36. > :06:38.Westminster. `` team Scotland. It is interesting how Alex Salmond
:06:39. > :06:46.dismisses anyone who disagrees with him. David Cameron and Alex Salmond
:06:47. > :06:49.sat down together to create the Edinburgh agreement. Everyone has
:06:50. > :06:54.been engaged in this process. We need to have some respect. Whatever
:06:55. > :07:02.Alex Salmond argues for, he does it with great passion. We are now going
:07:03. > :07:05.to move to the stage where we should be listening to business and the
:07:06. > :07:17.shipyard workers who said their jobs are on the line. At this stage in
:07:18. > :07:21.the debate we should listen to ordinary Scots. So why the influx of
:07:22. > :07:25.Westminster leaders. John Prescott said that having David Cameron in
:07:26. > :07:31.Scotland is a hindrance. He did use more colourful language. He says it
:07:32. > :07:36.allows the Yes Campaign to carry on with their giant that you are in bed
:07:37. > :07:42.with the Tories. We need something a bit more mature in this debate. I
:07:43. > :07:45.have thought the Tories all of my life, ever since I came into dollar
:07:46. > :07:54.ticks. I do like the way they do their business. I agree with him on
:07:55. > :08:02.one thing and that is that Scotland should stay in the UK. We should not
:08:03. > :08:08.raise taxes to 50% and act against energy companies. What we are
:08:09. > :08:18.looking for from Alex Salmond is why he's project is a price worth
:08:19. > :08:28.paying. `` he's project. He believes everyone else should step into line
:08:29. > :08:29.with him. Those of us on the no side are passionate about staying in the
:08:30. > :08:44.United Kingdom. We have had some questions from
:08:45. > :08:49.viewers. Here is the first one. What happens if the powers to go through
:08:50. > :08:55.Westminster? Why on earth would they? I think the way the question
:08:56. > :09:02.is framed fits in with this idea that everybody in the United Kingdom
:09:03. > :09:09.wants to stop us from having devolution. There is a ready
:09:10. > :09:13.devolution in other parts. We know people are unsettled about this.
:09:14. > :09:18.There's a debate right across the UK about how you get power to the right
:09:19. > :09:22.place. We know in Wales they were sceptical, but it has now been
:09:23. > :09:28.embraced. There is now commit going on with the regions in England
:09:29. > :09:31.should have more powers. That is a refreshing and energising debate
:09:32. > :09:36.about power, not about Westminster against Scotland, and that idea that
:09:37. > :09:40.there are people in the rest of the United Kingdom whose life's work is
:09:41. > :09:44.to do is down is outdated. We need to move forward and recognise the
:09:45. > :09:48.rest of the United Kingdom are our friends in the same things we do.
:09:49. > :09:53.Let's have a political argument rather than throwing up some scare
:09:54. > :10:02.stories which, I have to say, is most is R. We were also contacted by
:10:03. > :10:10.Scott in Edinburgh, and he says hole `` he says: What would you say to
:10:11. > :10:15.Scott and people like him? I respect people from the no and yes side have
:10:16. > :10:19.come to this is not from old school tribal politics back from testing
:10:20. > :10:22.arguments. They are often asking the same question is becoming to
:10:23. > :10:27.different conclusions. I would say my belief is that the Labour
:10:28. > :10:32.Party's IDs of unity, strength, community and solidarity are what
:10:33. > :10:37.have helped us, not separation. That is the choice we have. He and I will
:10:38. > :10:41.probably agree on the things we want government to do, so whatever he
:10:42. > :10:45.does on September 18, I know she and people like him will need to come
:10:46. > :10:49.together. We all need to come together to talk about politics.
:10:50. > :10:53.Let's energise people about how we create a better Scotland. I think we
:10:54. > :10:56.could do that better as part of something bigger pickets are
:10:57. > :11:04.security. We have the power in the Scottish Parliament to make
:11:05. > :11:08.significant decisions. A lot of labour voters are planning to vote
:11:09. > :11:12.yes. Most Tory voters are solidly below, along with liberal Democrats.
:11:13. > :11:17.It could be the Labour voters who failed to deliver enough no voters.
:11:18. > :11:22.Is not about Labour delivering. It is about engaging in the delivery. I
:11:23. > :11:26.understand people are worried about their jobs and security, their
:11:27. > :11:32.children's future. They are worried about how well cared for they will
:11:33. > :11:39.be. I understand these good sense, but experts tell us ?16 less to
:11:40. > :11:42.spend. It is a black hole on day one of independence. It means our
:11:43. > :11:49.aspirations will remain aspirations. So I say to Scott, be confident we
:11:50. > :11:53.can stand strong as a United Kingdom true to the values of cooperation
:11:54. > :11:58.and solidarity, and after septet 18, get to the real business of politics
:11:59. > :12:03.that has been missing. `` September 18. Thank you for coming in to talk
:12:04. > :12:07.to us. Stay with BBC News for the latest on the referendum. We will
